Nils Müller predicts that data will be the new currency in the future.Nils Müller, futurologist and keynote speaker at the Internet World Congress on 01 March 2016 in Munich, explains: "The current rate of innovation in e-commerce is increasing exponentially and we are moving in the direction of Artifical Intelligence in digital commerce. In the future, data will be the new currency, which Artificial Intelligence will then use to offer products and services that customers themselves didn't yet know they needed." Artificial intelligence would take over shopping activities in the background and customers would no longer have to worry about everyday products and consumer goods. Stores will become showrooms and consumers will increasingly swap products instead of buying them, according to Müller. When asked what tip trend researchers and innovators give retailers today to be prepared for the future, Internet World Messe identified the following three areas that retailers should keep a strategic eye on:
1. strengths of the innovation cultureE-commerce is not primarily a technical discipline; rather, the success factors are to be found in the corporate culture and organization. To be prepared for the future, retailers must strengthen the culture of innovation within the company, i.e., be open to growth and innovation fields. It is important to pick up on trends, check them for relevance and shed the shyness about technology that is often observed today. But beware: Technology is only ever an enabler and should never be misunderstood as a driver!
2. anticipate what the customer might wantA paradigm shift is on the horizon: Away from sales and towards super personalized advice. In order to offer tailored products and services, retailers must make proper use of their collected customer, tracking and product data. Those who manage to integrate seamless 24/7 customer interaction across all customer touchpoints and ensure that all processes work in real time are equipped for retail 2020.
3. development of a clear data strategyThe hunger for data seems limitless, because the new technologies such as beacons, wearables, but also digital signage devices at the POS for advertising and information systems are crying out for data. Data is the oil in the gears of the digital age. However, the basic prerequisite for this is structured data. Today, retailers must strengthen their digital competence and develop a clear data strategy. It is important to think carefully about the goals you are pursuing and to collect and analyze the necessary data in a structured and targeted manner. This is the only way to close the gap between existing and missing information, which is urgently needed in the future in order to continue to inspire customers with products, services and processes.Visitors can find out about the latest trends in e-commerce at the Internet World trade fair and the congress taking place at the same time in Munich from March 1 - 2, 2016.
