Ten years ADC Gallery: Frank Bodin invites to anniversary vernissage

On Thursday, the ADC Gallery is ten years old. Celebrate from 18.30 clock at Zentralstrasse 18, the exhibition shows the Essentials of the Essentials. Seven in number. Who wants to know more, should go there.

Ten years of creative debate at the ADC Gallery: Frank Bodin in front of one of his large-format Essentials.

On September 1, 2012, the ADC Gallery was launched. At that time, Frank Bodin as president presented 100 Essentials in picture format, which were available hanging on the walls for 100 francs. The rest is history. Since its founding, the gallery has been a place for creative encounters, discussions and, not least, artistic debate. On the ADC website, there are still 16 designations of what the gallery has functioned as for ten years: As a bar/lounge, seminar room, club, training room, bistro, cultural center, concert location, advertiser's meeting place, ideas room, church of creativity and shooting location.

It is celebrated

Founding father Frank Bodin is still emotionally closely interwoven with ADC and also the gallery. Now the anniversary is being celebrated. Since reduction to the essentials does not stop at art, Bodin is now - ten years later - exhibiting not 100, but only seven Essentials. Reduce to the max.

If you're in the mood for creative exchange, Bodin-style wisdom, art and a glass of wine, make the detour to Zentralstrasse 18 on Thursday and drop by the ADC Gallery.

AMS Media now manages the media budget of the Swiss Fruit Association

In a two-stage selection process, the AMS Media team won the contract and has been managing the national media campaigns for Swiss fruit and fruit juices since the beginning of 2021. The campaign has been visible in digital channels and offline media since March and will be played out in line with the Swiss season.

Schweizer Obstverbandes

"AMS Media presented a convincing overall package and thought beyond media work alone," says Christian Schönbächler, Head of Communications and Marketing at the Swiss Fruit Association. "In addition to great media and digital know-how, working with AMS Media also gives us access to valuable synergies within Swiss agriculture."

For AMS Media, serving the Swiss Fruit Association is a perfect addition to its existing client base, according to a statement from the agency. "With SOV, we have been able to make an excellent addition to our portfolio - with an attractive, demanding and quality-conscious client," says a delighted Michael Richner, head of AMS Media.

The campaign is seasonally adapted to the variety of Swiss fruits, started in March with the products apples and pears and will run until autumn.

Heads for Zurich museums: currently the best cultural offering by far

On Monday, Zurich's museums open their doors - for the second time after a lockdown. Heads promotes the reopening and charmingly points out that, of course, distance and mask are still mandatory when visiting museums.

Heads_Zuercher_Museen_1

In full-page ads in the Tages-Anzeiger and NZZ, on online channels and in social media, Zurich's museums are courting the favor of those interested in culture. They are relatively certain to be successful - not only are there a large number of fascinating exhibitions waiting for visitors, but there are also few cultural alternatives to a visit to a museum at the moment. Zurich's museums will be delighted if many Zurich residents (re)discover their museums for themselves.

"Hey Facebook": Network experiments with voice assistants

Facebook is trying to launch its own voice assistant. Initially, on the VR headsets from its subsidiary Oculus, users will be able to activate the software’s features using the wake word «Hey Facebook,» as the social network announced late Thursday night.

Facebook's video communication device Portal also now suggests "Hey Facebook" as an alternative to the previous "Hey Portal" trigger.

The capabilities of the assistant software are limited to a few tasks at the beginning. For example, you can start a game by voice, see who of your friends is online, or take a screenshot. The software will initially be available on the new Oculus Quest 2 glasses and later on for the first Quest generation as well.

In Germany, Facebook stopped selling its VR goggles after plans to merge Oculus accounts with Facebook profiles triggered an investigation.

With virtual reality, users immerse themselves in digital worlds with special glasses. Currently, Facebook in particular is driving development in the consumer market with Oculus. Despite great expectations and investments, VR has so far remained a niche business.
When it comes to voice assistants, Amazon's Alexa and Google Assistant are the most widespread across technology from various providers, while Apple offers its own Siri software on its devices. (SDA)

Feminine brand names are often more successful

Brands with feminine-sounding names often enjoy greater commercial success than competitors with masculine names. According to a study by the University of Calgary, most of the biggest brands have female-sounding names, such as «Coca-Cola,» «Nestlé,» «Nike,» and «Disney.» Such names make a brand appear «warmer,» the study found.

According to researchers, people often perceive a name as feminine if it ends with a vowel, has at least two syllables, and the stress is not on the first syllable. An analysis of Interbrand's list of the world's biggest brands from the past 20 years has shown that a large proportion of them have such names.

"The higher a brand is on the list, the more likely it is to have a linguistically feminine name," explains study leader Ruth Pogacar. In several experiments, the scientists examined how brands with different names affect consumers. The test subjects associated brands with "warmth", i.e. with friendliness, honesty and tolerance. This made the products more likeable for them.

Functional products masculine

Masculine names also have advantages. Brands with masculine names are more popular, especially for purely functional products such as bathroom scales. Feminine names, on the other hand, are better received by luxury products such as chocolate. Only in the case of goods aimed specifically at men does the brand name not make much difference. (pte)

Content marketers in companies wish they had more courage

A survey by Content Marketing Forum CMF and Questiq on the content marketing organization in companies shows how far content marketers have come - and what is holding them back.

content-marketer-wünschen-mehr-mut

Where do German companies stand with their content marketing organization? What moves them forward and what stands in their way? These are the core questions of a qualitative survey that the consulting firm Questiq, the Content Marketing Forum and content marketing expert Jutta Gawenda jointly launched in the summer of 2020 with the support of the Marketing Club Frankfurt. The results suggest: Content marketing in its complexity and interdisciplinarity can have many organizational forms, tools and approaches. But it will only succeed if the attitude of the people behind it is right.

Setting is central

"Our primary concern with this research was to understand what the big challenges are for content marketers in companies and to find best practices on how to master them," explains Ioana Sträter, CEO of Questiq. The answers to questions about the ideal organization, the most important current topics in content marketing, as well as tools and technologies, surprised the initiators in their diversity: "The approaches and procedures of the companies are in part completely different, and yet most of the respondents come to good results," says Jutta Gawenda. "One thing has become very clear: More than anything else, the attitude of the people working with us is crucial to how well content marketing works," adds Regina Karnapp, Managing Director of the Content Marketing Forum.

Not an ideal model

Agility, openness, and collaboration are accordingly the most important keywords that the three-person team gained from the qualitative, non-representative survey. In group interviews and an online survey with almost 40 participants from large - mainly international - companies and agencies, an ideal image of a content marketing organization emerged, which above all must fit the company and its employees.

There is no one ideal model; rather, there are very different paths that can lead to an ideal image, which in turn is shared by almost all respondents: A flexible, agile model of collaboration based on a strategy that is known and recognized by all and geared to the common goal of customer-centric communication - beyond internal company politics, with individual professional responsibilities and a good dose of courage to make decisions.

How the companies surveyed and the agencies work with their customers to achieve the ideal image, what tools and technologies they use, what they map internally and for what help is brought in from outside, can be seen in the Content Marketing Best Practices - Experiences and Trends" Report can be read in more detail.

Günter Heuberger hands over top media to Philippe Pfiffner

After a transition period lasting about a year and a half, Günter Heuberger is now stepping down from the management team at Radio Top and Tele Top. Philippe Pfiffner will take over for him.

MC-Heuberger_Pfiffner
On March 1, 2021, Günter Heuberger (left) will hand over the management of Top Media to Philippe Pfiffner.

Heuberger gained his first media experience as a consultant at Farner in Zurich, where he worked on mandates for Swissair, Zurich Airport and Radio Z. Following a request from the three initiators of Radio Eulach, Hans-Jacob Heitz, Hansjörg Hüppi and Peter Spälti, he became involved in setting up the first private radio station in Winterthur.

Günter Heuberger was also involved in the founding of the television station Winti TV in 1986, together with Jakob Maurer from Stadtantenne Winterthur and Werner Wäckerli, Head of Information for the city of Winterthur. After the 1998 merger of Radio Eulach, Radio Thurgau and Radio Wil to form Radio Top, Winti TV was expanded to Tele Top in 1999. While Radio Top broadcast from the Erlenhof in Winterthur, Tele Top soon moved to the new television studio in Frauenfeld. In 2012, Radio Top also moved into premises in the same building - since then, the two sister companies have been based together on Bürglistrasse in Winterthur.

In spring 2019, Günter Heuberger decided to place the management of Radio Top and Tele Top in younger hands. The now 67-year-old will be succeeded by 40-year-old Philippe Pfiffner. Apart from a brief interruption, he has been working for Top Media since 2005 and will take over responsibility as Managing Director on March 1, 2021, after being appointed Deputy Managing Director by the Board of Directors on September 1, 2019 (Werbewoche.ch reported).

"It was important to me to fulfill an exciting performance mandate with great people and to show that smaller companies also have a chance to develop in the digital world. The more than 1,000 employees that I was able to accompany and whose development I was committed to were the best motivation to gladly bear this great responsibility over all these years," Günter Heuberger is quoted as saying in a press release.

Facebook signs first contracts with Australian media outlets

Facebook immediately signed contracts with Australian media companies following the introduction of a controversial media law. The world's largest social network announced the agreements with Private Media, Schwartz Media, and Solstice Media on Friday.

Facebook schliesst erste Verträge mit australischen Medien

"Under these agreements, there will now be a range of premium journalism content, including previously paid-for content, available on Facebook," it added. The Australian parliament had passed a law on Thursday requiring online platforms to share their news-generated advertising revenue with media companies. Facebook had resisted the law (Werbewoche.ch reported).

Australia is the first nation to pass a law of this kind. Around the globe, however, governments have been looking for ways to curb the influence of the U.S. technology giants for years. Several countries have now declared their intention to take steps along the lines of Australia's example. (SDA)

Promokant, Kyo and Radio 24 new partners of the Zurich Games

Three new partners for Zurich Games: Radio 24 will support the organizer in sponsor acquisition. In addition, Zurich Games will become a customer of the two agencies Kyo and Promokant.

pmkkyo[2]

Zurich Games is an organizer of functional competitions. At the events, athletes compete against each other in various disciplines. Among other things, they compete in Olympic weightlifting, bodyweight exercises or elements of gymnastics and endurance sports.

CH Media joins as media partner due to a convincing event and sponsoring concept and thus wants to put the Zurich Games on the agenda of interested sponsors.

Radio24 draws attention to the event with various advertisements, integrates it on the online platforms and raffles participation tickets for athletes on all channels. The event is free of charge for spectators.

Marketing makes Kyo and Promokant

In addition, the Kyo agency will manage the event organizer's social media channels from April and set up a brand ambassador program for interested sponsors. Promokant will be the exclusive marketer for field marketing measures on the two event days. The two agencies prevailed over their competitors in a pitch.

The annual event will take place in 2021 on September 12 and 13 at the Hardhof sports facility. A move to the SBB main hall of Zurich HB is planned for 2022.

Twitter aims to double revenue by 2023

Twitter wants to double its annual revenue to $7.5 billion by the end of 2023. The number of daily users the service reaches with its advertising is expected to increase from 192 million at last count to 315 million by then.

twitter-voegel

Twitter set the targets on Thursday to an investor event. They were well received on the stock market: Twitter shares were up seven percent at times in early U.S. trading. Last year, Twitter had increased revenue by 7.5 percent to 3.7 billion dollars (just over three billion euros).

Twitter generates almost all of its revenue from advertising. This can be, for example, the ability to put tweets with product ads in users' timelines for money. The ads are displayed in the web version and Twitter's own app. Therefore, the company has moved to mentioning only the number of users that can be reached with ads as a relevant figure. The service is also considering subscription business models. According to media reports, for example, a paid version of the Tweetdeck app aimed at professional users could be introduced.

When presenting its latest quarterly figures, Twitter had already emphasized that the banishment of ex-US President Donald Trump from the platform at the beginning of January had not slowed down growth. This had been feared, as Trump was one of the best-known Twitter users with around 80 million subscribers. He was permanently suspended from Twitter after his supporters attacked the U.S. Capitol and his expressions of sympathy for the attackers. (SDA)

BDVW Creative Ranking 2020: Serviceplan in first place

The Serviceplan/Plan.Net agency group secured first place in the creative ranking of the German Federal Association for the Digital Economy (BVDW) with 2,003 points. Denkwerk came in second with 1,714 points, and Jung von Matt came in third with 1,168 points.

bvdw-kreativranking

The weighting of the awards relevant for the BDVW Creative Ranking is based on a two-stage query on the value of the awards among the ranking's advisory board members on the one hand and the agencies from the BVDW membership on the other. New digitally relevant categories have also been added to the BVDW Creative Ranking 2020. These include the "Direct" category for the D&AD and the "Covid-19 Crisis Communication" category for the German Online Communication Award.

Places four to ten go to Kolle Rebbe with 892.5 points, BBDO with 696 points, Cheil Germany with 695 points, Heimat Berlin with 666 points, MRM//McCann with 656 points, Demodern with 616.5 points and Scholz & Friends with 429 points. The ranking shows the 30 most successful agencies in the most important creative competitions.

"The ranking is always a reflection of the work that won in the awards we evaluated. We are particularly pleased that this year a particularly large number of cases had a digital product or service character," emphasizes Stefan Mohr, Chairman of the Full-Service Digital Agencies Expert Group at BVDW. "This shows the full range of digital agencies: campaigns, products, platforms, creative commerce, technology solutions - always with a highly creative claim and from a technologically savvy engineering perspective. Serviceplan managed to stay at the top in 2020 despite the circumstances, but I was also impressed by Scholz & Friends, which climbed from 18th to 10th place," concludes Mohr.

In order to always adequately reflect the market, the evaluation matrix of the creative ranking is regularly adjusted by the BVDW's specialist group for full-service digital agencies. The advisory board is made up of members of the BVDW presidium, the chairpersons of the BVDW's specialist group for full-service digital agencies, and the management of the digital association. Media partners of the BVDW creative ranking are Horizont and Werben & Verkaufen.
