Rod Kommunikation presents a tree-lined initiative from IP Suisse

Together with Denner, the farmers of IP-Suisse are launching an initiative to plant 100,000 trees to protect the climate and promote biodiversity. Rod is highlighting the initiative with a campaign.

Denner

With 18,500 farming families, IP-Suisse is one of the most important agricultural producers and distribution organizations in Switzerland. For more than 30 years, IP-Suisse farmers have been producing tasty food at affordable prices on their family farms in an environmentally friendly manner, taking care of animals and treating people with respect.

Together with Denner, IP-Suisse is now setting another example - 100,000 trees are to be planted annually for the climate and the environment, and reforestation projects in Switzerland are to be promoted.

The new national campaign designed by Rod Kommunikation presents the reforestation initiative in an emotional, visually powerful and pointed way with a TV and cinema spot. The campaign is additionally flanked by posters, advertisements and targeted online and social media stories.

Graubünden government is against quick fixes in medal support

The Graubünden government does not intend to put together an aid package for the media—which have also been affected by the coronavirus crisis—in the short term. It is first waiting for the results of a report on the medium- and long-term financial outlook for regional media.

A maximum of CHF 1.5 million to cushion the impact of the coronavirus crisis on the media is being demanded by over 30 members of the Grand Council who signed the motion tabled by CVP parliamentary group leader Remo Cavegn. However, the government is asking parliament to reject the motion, as can be seen from the response published on Monday.

The Executive Board would first like to await the results of a study, which is expected to be available at the end of the year. It is being prepared by the University of St. Gallen HSG and the Grisons University of Applied Sciences FHGR. It is entitled "The media in the canton of Graubünden: Analysis of the current situation and future prospects". It will also outline possibilities for media promotion by the public sector.

However, the government emphasizes that any cantonal measures in favour of the media would be complementary to federal aid. At cantonal level, the public sector's commitment to the media has so far been limited to the promotion of the minority languages Romansh and Italian - in addition to federal aid. (SDA)

Federal Council wants to make administration more digitally fit for the next crisis

The cantonal government wants to improve the federal government's digital policy for times of crisis, such as a pandemic. The Federal Council revised its «Digital Switzerland» strategy on Friday.

Bundesrat
"Mister Digitization" Daniel Markwalder will head a competence center for issues relating to "Digital Switzerland" from the beginning of 2021.

Digital applications played a major role in ensuring that Switzerland "continued to function" during the Covid 19 pandemic, the Federal Council announced. At the same time, weaknesses in digitization have come to light. For example, problems in the collection of data on the coronavirus have become known. Doctors and hospitals reported this partly by fax. Manual transmission increased the risk of errors and misunderstandings.

To ensure that Switzerland is better equipped to deal with comparable situations in the future, the Federal Office of Communications (OFCOM) and the Federal Chancellery (FC) are to propose measures in a report by the end of 2021.

Other new focal points in digitization over the next two years are to be environmental and data aspects. By the end of 2021, the Federal Office for the Environment (FOEN) wants to show how the basis for calculating life cycle assessments, energy consumption and footprints can be improved in the area of information and communications technology.

"Mister Digitization"

The Federal Council also wants to create trusted data spaces for the use of data beyond its original purpose. Switzerland should promote access for individuals, companies and the public sector. The government requires a baseline report from the Federal Office of Communications (Bakom) and the Directorate of International Law in the Department of Foreign Affairs by the end of 2021.

The government also wants to pay particular attention to the digital economy, especially the sharing economy, digital finance, research and development, trade relations and competition policy. The State Secretariat for Economic Affairs will update a report on the framework conditions by the end of 2022.

The "Digital Switzerland" strategy, which is binding for the administration, provides guidelines for digitization. In June, the Federal Council elected Daniel Markwalder, 45, from Aargau, as the new delegate for digital transformation. From the beginning of 2021, the "Mister Digitalization" is to head a competence center for questions relating to the topic. (SDA)

Farner

In addition to Farner, the communications agencies named by the 100 most important communicators in the world in the PRovoke survey include heavyweights such as the US firms Edelmann (number 1 in the Global PR Agency Ranking 2020), Weber Shandwick (2nd place), FleishmanHillard (4th place), Ketchum (5th place) and the British agency Brunswick (10th place).

"#myprivatepicasso" wins the 2020 Sponsoring Excellence Award.

A genuine Picasso in a Swiss home for 24 hours: The Fondation Beyeler and Swisscom made it happen and won the 2nd Sponsoring Excellence Award for this innovative project. The award was presented during the «Grand Night of Sponsorship» on Friday at the Samsung Hall.

Sponsoring

On the occasion of the Picasso exhibition "The Young Picasso - Blue and Pink Period" from February 3 to June 16, 2019 at the Fondation Beyeler, anyone and everyone with a creative idea could apply to have a precious painting by Picasso in their home for 24 hours. Over the course of the exhibition, more than 400 ideas were submitted. For one day, the artwork ultimately hung in Wettingen on the farm of winner Hanspeter Benz in April 2019. The Fondation Beyeler, which lent the painting, and Swisscom, which was responsible for the secure networking and monitoring of the masterpiece, made the spectacular action possible.

Sponsoring

More than just logo presence

Swisscom and the Fondation Beyeler showed in an exemplary way that a sponsoring partnership can be developed into an attention-grabbing campaign that communicates the core messages of both partners and thus brings much more than just logo presence. "#myprivatepicasso has shown that we can achieve more in partnerships than we can individually: Swisscom has helped us make world-class art accessible to people in Switzerland who may not yet visit museums regularly. We were able to demonstrate that, thanks to technology, we could bring a real Picasso from our museum to a Swiss farm without worrying about the safety of the work," says Ulrike Erbslöh, Commercial Director of the Fondation Beyeler.

Andrea Meier, Head of Partnership & Live Experiences at Swisscom, explains: "With "#myprivatepicasso" we have broken new ground in activating partnerships by combining our expertise in networking, security and the Internet of Things with an attention-grabbing story. The partnership impressively demonstrated the power of sponsorship partnerships when both parties bring their strengths to the table."

"The jury was once again presented with an excellent selection of sponsorship projects," recounts jury president Urs Wyss, CSO at Ticketcorner. "In the end, #myprivatepicasso won the race because the Swisscom and Fondation Beyeler project made the best overall impression, from concept to implementation, and represented a truly excellent and relevant sponsorship commitment for us."

Award night with hygiene rules

Special attention was also paid that evening to compliance with all rules and recommendations for protection against the corona virus. SPONSORING SWITZERLAND and association member Adcom developed a special protection concept with solutions that enabled guests to enjoy the evening. For example, so-called "hygiene angels" were on duty to help visitors comply with hygiene measures and to point out the distance rules.

Schürer had left his job at the NZZ started in 2011 in the Zurich department.

Nicole Anliker will be the new Deputy Editor-in-Chief and Head of Newsroom as of April 1, 2021. In addition to the digital newsroom, she will also head the newsroom, the picture desk including web production, and the photography team. Anliker joined the International department in 2011 and has been Latin America correspondent since 2018. She gained her first journalistic experience at Radio Freiburg and the Freiburger Nachrichten. Anliker studied history and political science in Fribourg and international relations in Geneva. Afterwards, she spent longer periods in Central and South America as well as various internships in the field of development policy and human rights.

Merging the technology and science portfolios

In order to make even better use of their respective strengths in the future and to bundle synergies, the two departments of Technology and Science will be merged as of November 1 under the leadership of Christiane Hanna Henkel. Together they will form the new Technology and Science Department. Christian Speicher, Head of the Science Department since 2009, is relinquishing this role in order to be able to devote himself fully to writing as a specialist editor in the future. He holds a doctorate in physics and joined the Science Department of the NZZ where, in addition to physics, he also supervises the subjects of chemistry, mathematics and climate.

Christiane Hanna Henkel has headed the Technology department since it was established in November 2019. The business and financial journalist, who specializes in technology topics, has worked for more than twenty years for the NZZ active. Henkel studied business administration at the HEC Lausanne and also graduated from the Georg von Holtzbrinck School for Business Journalists in Düsseldorf, subsequently earning a doctorate from the University of St. Gallen.

Prix Courage 2020: The nominees have been determined

Once again this year, on the occasion of the 23rd Prix Courage awards ceremony, *Der Beobachter* is honoring people who have distinguished themselves through their moral courage in a wide variety of fields. The finalists have now been announced. The 2020 Lifetime Award goes to «Die Dargebotene Hand.».

Prix Courage
Nominated for the Prix Courage 2020: Amine Diare Conde, Markus Fritzsche, Nils Melzer, Yasmine Motarjemi, Nadya and Candid Pfister, Susi Schildknecht and Melanie Tamburino (from left to right).

Who wins the main prize of 15,000 Swiss francs will be decided by the Observer-readers and the jury headed by former Aargau cantonal councillor Susanne Hochuli.

This year's Lifetime Award goes to "Die Dargebotene Hand," whose volunteers make a valuable contribution to society with their telephone counseling service, especially in Corona times.

This year's nominees for the Prix Courage

Amine Diare Conde from Zurich...

provided food to sans-papiers and marginalized people during the Corona crisis. At the age of 16, the 22-year-old rejected refugee from Guinea fled alone through the Sahara and across the Mediterranean to Europe. In Switzerland, he struggled to make ends meet. Nevertheless, after the outbreak of the Corona crisis, he did not hesitate for a second to stand up for people who had even less. Conde found food, collected donations, set up a logistics network, organized volunteers and vans. For weeks, he and his helpers distributed food packages free of charge. Not only sans-papiers picked up food every Saturday - but also people who did not want to apply for social welfare, as well as marginalized people with Swiss passports. In the meantime, the Sozialwerk Pfarrer Sieber has taken over the "Food for All" campaign.

Markus Fritzsche from Adliswil ZH...

fought Covid-19 in the asylum shelter. The family doctor and epidemiologist has been providing medical care for refugees in Adliswil on behalf of the canton of Zurich for years. When a woman in the emergency shelter there fell ill with Covid-19, he wanted to transfer her to a hospital - the Iranian woman's life was in danger because she suffers from a severe rheumatic disease. However, the canton refused to admit the woman and her one-year-old child, who was also ill. Markus Fritzsche decided to go public with his decision. As a result, the Zurich Security Directorate withdrew his mandate as asylum doctor; he is no longer allowed to treat his patients in the emergency shelter. Instead of being praised by the canton for his efforts, Fritzsche is now threatened with the withdrawal of his practice permit in the worst case.

Nils Melzer from Evilard BE...

takes on the powers that be in the case of Wikileaks founder Julian Assange. Fabricated evidence, collusion and torture - these are the accusations that Nils Melzer, UN Special Rapporteur on Torture, has leveled against the law enforcement agencies of Sweden, the UK and the US. Assange faces extradition to the U.S. and 175 years in prison for publishing secret documents on Wikileaks. These document war crimes by U.S. troops, among other things. Most of the media portrayed the activist as a spy and rapist. Melzer was not deterred by this. He made the serious procedural violations public, even though he risked his own reputation and security. Since then, he has been accused of not taking rape victims seriously and of fomenting conspiracy theories.

Yasmine Motarjemi from Nyon VD...

exposed abuses at Nestlé. The food technologist was recruited by the WHO to make the company's products safer. But Motarjemi soon discovered that anyone who uncovered and reported abuses - such as cookies that almost choked babies - was neither listened to nor supported. Instead, she was systematically bullied and no longer allowed to fulfill her mission. As a scientist, she felt obliged to draw attention to the abuses and took the food company to court. After ten years, she was vindicated this January: the Lausanne Cantonal Court found that "Motarjemi was harassed in an insidious manner." The harassment had ruined her professionally and psychologically. The verdict gives her hope - also for other whistleblowers, says Motarjemi.

Nadya and Candid Pfister from Spreitenbach AG...

fight for the victims of cyberbullying. Their daughter Céline was 13 years old when she took her own life in August 2017 after days of digital bullying. Her parents have been fighting cyberbullying on Instagram and Facebook ever since with the hashtag #célinesvoice - they know what it means for children to suffer because of social media. Again and again, young people contact them with concerns, questions and encouragement. The two teenagers who bullied their daughter with an intimate picture got off with just a few days of community service. That's why the Pfisters are campaigning for cyberbullying to be prosecuted in the future. Thanks to their commitment, SP National Councilor Gabriela Suter has now submitted a parliamentary initiative.

Susi Schildknecht from Jonen AG...

sets a sign for acceptance with her face. She lost half her face in the fight against cancer and wants to show that no one has to be ashamed of their appearance. In 2018, doctors tried to rid her face of all cancer cells, removing her nose, right eye including the eye socket, forehead and part of her right cheek. In her new everyday life, exclusion and insults followed; for years, the former activation therapist hid at home as a result. But then she went public with her story - even though it took "a hell of a lot of courage. In newspapers, television appearances and her blog "Krebsgesicht" (Cancer Face), Susi Schildknecht now tells of her fate and stands up for people with disabilities.

Melanie Tamburino from Tenniken BL...

saved two people from a German shepherd in a blood frenzy. A woman from the neighborhood wanted to walk the dog when it suddenly attacked her three-year-old niece. The animal then bit the woman who was trying to protect the girl. Tamburino rushed to the rescue. The 41-year-old has three dogs of her own and leads agility courses - thanks to her knowledge, she did not physically intervene, but immediately gave the dog commands. The dog obeyed at the first "down" and let go of the woman. On "foot" Tamburino was able to grab the animal and lock it away until the police and rescue forces arrived. If the shepherd had caught the toddler, the attack would probably have been fatal. But Melanie Tamburino does not see herself as a hero: at that moment, she was merely doing her job.

Who of the seven nominees will win this year's main prize worth 15,000 Swiss francs will be determined in equal parts by the public voting, which is now open, and by the jury headed by former Aargau cantonal councillor Susanne Hochuli.

Lifetime Award for "The Offered Hand

As in the previous editions, the Observer Prix Courage will also present an additional award this year: The Lifetime Award 2020 for special services to society goes to the aid organization "Die Dargebotene Hand". For more than 60 years, the telephone counseling service has been supported by around 670 volunteers who listen to and help other people with a lot of heart and without pay - especially in Corona times, an invaluable service for many a person suffering from the manifold consequences of the crisis.

"This award is a great honor and recognition for the decades of anonymous work of our volunteers in favor of people in emotional distress," Sabine Basler, Managing Director of Die Dargebotene Hand, is pleased to say. "It will give us even more visibility to continue our work and align the offer with new social needs."

In recent months, "Die Dargebotene Hand" has seen a sharp increase in calls to its number "143". In order to cover the increased demand in these difficult times around the clock, the organization has increased its capacity by 300 hours of speaking time per week.

Digital award ceremony on Blick TV

Due to the situation surrounding the Coronavirus, the award ceremony of this year's Prix Courage will not take place at a festive dinner - but in the studios of Blick TV. The announcement and award ceremony, interviews with the finalists and the presentation of the Lifetime Award to "Die Dargebotene Hand" will be broadcast live on Blick TV on October 30, 2020.

Watson Romandie goes online next March

AZ Medien is expanding into French-speaking Switzerland with the internet portal Watson. From March 2021, 20 journalists will report from the Lausanne site.

Watson Romandie

The project was examined in detail, according to the Watson-announcement on Friday. According to managing director and AZ board member Michael Wanner, the positive feedback from the advertising market in particular contributed to the decision.

The financing of the project is secured. However, participation by donors from French-speaking Switzerland is still being sought. Discussions are currently underway with potential partner organizations.

In April, the Aargau publishing house AZ Medien announced that it was examining the establishment of Watson in French-speaking Switzerland (Werbewoche.ch reported). At the end of August, the Board of Directors made the final decision to expand, it is reported.

According to Editor-in-Chief Sandra Jean, the portal's offering is aimed at the active 20 to 40-year-old demographic. Watson will offer a full journalistic program with news, debate and entertainment. She is currently looking for 20 journalists for the Lausanne site. Over 100 applications have already been received within a very short space of time.

According to its own information, Watson is the third-largest advertising-financed news portal in Switzerland. (SDA)

High voltage sets the scene for the new Jsotta Rosé

The Zurich-based agency Hochspannung developed and implemented a campaign for the launch of Jsotta Rosé.

Hochspannung

The vermouth has been available on the market since 1899 and launched a comeback campaign this summer with the newly launched Jsotta Rosé. The current advertising campaign reinforces the brand's presence on posters, advertisements and in the digital world.

The House advertises Migros Group apprenticeships with face toasts and fortune teller

The Migros Group’s “Arbeitswelt” apprenticeship hub has been live since early August 2019. In addition to service tools such as the Talent Matcher and the in-house WhatsApp chatbot, a new interactive video from The House playfully guides young people toward the right apprenticeship.

Migros

Trainees can now work on the Engagement Hub of the Migros Group immerse themselves in their own story and find out even more playfully how they can best progress on the path to an apprenticeship. In the process, users experience a series of challenges that, if the answers are correct, convey core values of the Migros Group working world, while wrong answers in turn reward them with entertaining scenes - until they choose the right one.

Anyone who plays through to the various endings of the film learns a lot of valuable information for the path from the trial apprenticeship to the apprenticeship - and can then jump straight to the Migros Group's apprenticeship offers, or sharpen the search in advance with other features such as the Talent Matcher.

In the process, the concept "Your apprenticeship. Your perspective. is consistently continued in the interactive film. Users experience everything in first-person view. This makes the experience a seamless addition to the more than 100 vignettes in which apprentices have been showing their perspectives since August 2019, giving trainees an insight into more than 60 professions.

The new gamification feature is being teased among 13- to 17-year-olds with movies on various platforms from Instagram, YouTube and TikTok to Spotify, Twitch or Gameloft.

The concept developed by The House, including storyline and UX design, was produced in collaboration with Dynamic Frame, programmed by Liip and integrated into the hub. Web Republic is responsible for media.

CH Media sells AT Verlag

CH Media is selling its book publishing division, AT Verlag—which also includes Atmosphären Verlag in Munich—to BT Holding. The acquisition will take effect on October 1, 2020.

CH Media

As the media company wrote in a press release on Thursday, the sale of AT Verlag is in line with CH Media's strategy of focusing on the two main pillars of publishing (with a focus on paid newspapers) and entertainment (TV, radio, events). BT Holding is taking over all employees. The parties have agreed not to disclose the sale price.

AT Verlag was founded in 1978 as a book publisher for the Aargauer Tagblatt newspaper and publishes around 40 non-fiction books a year on the subjects of cooking and drinks, wild plants, nature, handicrafts, medicine, hiking and Switzerland. Its annual turnover is around six million francs.

Jung von Matt/Limmat launches Bias-Based Creativity

Jung von Matt/Limmat presents its newly developed «Bias-Based Creativity» approach. This interdisciplinary approach aims to facilitate the development of creative and effective communication solutions.

Jung von Matt/Limmat
The Bias-Based Creativity project team, consisting of René Schwarz, Stefan Naef, Prof. Dr. Johanna Gollnhofer, Christian Omlin and Matthias Fuchs (from left to right).

Cognitive biases are thought patterns that we are all subject to without being aware of them. For example, in situations of uncertainty, we blindly copy the behavior of others (herding bias). This was the case in the spring of 2020, for example, when many people fell into a compulsion to hoard toilet paper and when the shelves of retailers were empty. Jung von Matt/Limmat uses these and more than 160 other scientific findings from behavioral research as an opportunity for more effective creation. This gave rise to the "Bias-Based Creativity" approach, in collaboration with Johanna Gollnhofer, Associate Professor of Digital Marketing at the University of St.Gallen.

Fresh perspectives from research

Cognitive biases have a major influence on our daily decision-making behavior - not least as decision drivers in our role as consumers. "We know from research how strongly purchase decisions are determined by Cognitive Biases. To date, behavioral research has identified and scientifically studied more than 160 such Cognitive Biases," says Gollnhofer. Stefan Naef, Chief Consulting Officer of Jung von Matt/Limmat adds: "Thanks to the interface with research, we can optimally use the scientific findings as Behavioral Insights - they open up fresh perspectives on consumer behavior and thus create new opportunities for creative interactions between brands and their customers".

Creative offer with potential

"The targeted use of Cognitive Biases allows brands to realize even more effective communication," says René Schwarz, Chief Experience Officer at Jung von Matt/Limmat. The customer-centric offering opens up new profiling opportunities for brands in the market, as Stefan Naef points out: "There are some brands internationally that are successfully using Cognitive Biases, but there are still only a few in Switzerland. We see great potential for local brands to optimize their communication impact in a targeted way."

One Swiss company that already uses Cognitive Biases for marketing communication is the Zürcher Kantonalbank ZKB. Together with Jung von Matt/Limmat, ZKB optimized the campaign for the pillar 3a app "Frankly" with the help of Cognitive Biases. Monica Dreyer, Head of Marketing and Branding at ZKB, is convinced that cognitive biases can give brands clear competitive advantages: "With the intelligent use of cognitive biases, marketing measures become more concrete, more well-founded and therefore more efficient."

Focus on the entire marketing funnel

The Bias-Based Creativity approach, which was developed interdisciplinarily with experts from various disciplines from research and practice, encompasses several dimensions: Starting with the segmentation of target groups via Bias-Based Campaigning to Bias-Based Conversion, Cognitive Biases can be used in a targeted manner along the entire marketing funnel. "During the conceptual development, it became clear to all involved how comprehensive the possibilities of the Bias-Based Creativity approach are. Since cognitive biases play a fundamental role in conscious as well as unconscious decision-making processes, we can use them as behavior insights for a wide variety of creative challenges," states Christian Omlin, Strategist at Jung von Matt/Limmat and part of the project team.

Effectiveness thanks to selection and simulation

In view of the more than 160 cognitive biases, there is a wide playing field of possibilities for every brand challenge. This makes careful selection all the more essential. "There are a great many Cognitive Biases - which is why it is all the more important to first understand them thoroughly before you can apply them," says Matthias Fuchs, a doctoral student at the University of St. Gallen and part of the project team. To ensure the effectiveness of the selected biases, the Bias-Based Creativity offering includes comprehensive testing of different biases. This allows the greatest potential for success to be assessed at an early stage of the conception process and the creative approaches to be optimized on the basis of data. "In this way, we can guarantee the greatest possible customer centricity and accuracy of fit for the communication solutions," says René Schwarz.
