Decor during Federer interview was surreptitious advertising

The SRF program «Sportpanorama Plus» violated the advertising ban during an interview with Swiss tennis star Roger Federer. The Ombudsman’s Office of Swiss Radio and Television (SRG) has upheld a complaint regarding this matter.

The SRG Ombudsman's Office criticizes the surreptitious advertising in the programme "Sportpanorama Plus" with Roger Federer and Nicola Spirig from July 6, 2020. (Screenshot: Srf.ch)

One viewer had criticized the fact that the decoration of the studio during the interview with the tennis player was in the blue shade of Federer's new shoe "The Roger". "Where is the line between public service and self-interest?" the viewer had written, as the ombudsman's office announced in its final report on Tuesday.

In its statement, the editors responsible emphasized the "extraordinary situation of the interview". Due to time constraints, the interview with Federer and triathlete Nicola Spirig had to take place in the same studio and right next to the shoe brand's already installed decor.

The crew had tried to avoid showing the exposed shoes and the branded decorative parts in the picture as much as possible. Unfortunately, however, it only became apparent after the interview that it had not been possible to hide the details of the shoe.
The subsequent pixelation of the logo had also been given too little consideration. Nevertheless, the editorial team made it clear that no agreements had been made between SRF and Federer and that no cash flows had taken place.

In their statement, the ombudspersons acknowledge the "special circumstances" of the shooting. However, according to the law, the overall impression is decisive. And this was "strongly influenced" by the company logo. The editorial team's explanations could not have justified "the disregard of the legal requirements". (SDA)

Havas Switzerland advertises new for Hirz

Hirz, a brand belonging to Nestlé, wanted fresh ideas for its yogurt division. Havas Switzerland accepted the challenge and won the pitch.

Hirz

To give the brand a revitalization, Hirz sought a strategic realignment of its yogurt division and ideas for a 20-second TV spot. In a multi-step process, Havas analyzed the brand and distilled its strengths. These included the extensive range, the freshness of the products, the intense flavor of the yogurts and, above all, the USP: Hirz has been producing fresh products in Switzerland since 1869 - longer than any competitor. The brand should therefore be described as a traditional Swiss brand and positioned accordingly.

The strategic positioning was followed by creative implementation. The findings resulted in the new claim: "This is how Switzerland enjoys. Since 1869". The task now is to disseminate this claim across all channels. At the center of the campaign is the TV spot, which communicates the brand promise and the brand's strengths, such as a large assortment, intensive taste, freshness and Switzerland. The film will be shown on TVC and as OLV for YouTube and the website.

Polyconsult saves the world together with Battery-Man and La Gustav

The Bern-based agency Polyconsult, in collaboration with Battery-Man and the Fribourg-based group «La Gustav,» conceived and produced a tribute to the 1980s hit «We Are the World.».

Polyconsult

Battery-Man has been recycling since 2012. That's eight years in which he's been encouraging young and not-so-young people not to throw batteries in the trash, but to collect and recycle them. If you've been on the road for so long with the same message for the same target group, you have to keep coming up with new ideas.

And so it happens that - exactly 35 years after "We are the World" - a new do-gooder is following in the footsteps of Lionel Richie, Michael Jackson and Ray Charles: Battery-Man. Together with the young talents of "La Gustav", the multi-talented recycling hero has released a homage to the world hit from the eighties.

Like the original, Battery-Man's new interpretation "Fight for what you love" is committed to a better world. Whereas back then it was world hunger, today the focus is on nature and the climate. The song tells how easy it is for everyone to make a personal contribution to a more sustainable world: from battery recycling to avoiding waste to environmentally friendly mobility. "Fight for what you love" was composed and realized by Pascal Vonlanthen aka Gustav.

80s style music clip

The music clip also revives the colorful 80s - with lots of sound and smoke, balloons and soap bubbles. The three-minute one-take by Zurich director Jyri Pasanen was shot at a kitschy sunset on Lake Murten.

Fight for what you love" can be heard and seen on YouTube and on the usual music platforms. In addition to short spots for online use, classic music marketing measures are also used in the promotion.

Stöckli Ski plans online offensive and expects sales loss

Stöckli Ski is planning an online push. At the same time, the Swiss ski manufacturer expects a decline in sales for the current fiscal year due to the coronavirus pandemic. This is reported by the *Handelszeitung* in its latest issue.

Stöckli

Regarding the online offensive, Stöckli CEO Marc Gläser says in an interview with the Handelszeitungthat they have found a new way to map the traditionally important relationship between ski, binding and ski boot in web sales: "The customer who wants to buy a ski from us online takes a picture of his ski boot with his cell phone and sends us the pictures. That way we know what condition the boot is in and can do a visual inspection - so that the binding can be adjusted perfectly and certified."

Due to poor consumer sentiment in foreign markets, Gläser anticipates a sharp drop in sales in fiscal 2020/2021: "There will probably be a drop in sales of around 20 percent," Gläser tells the Handelszeitung. The decline stems from foreign sales countries: "We achieve 50 percent of our ski sales abroad - and there we feel the crisis strongly." As a result, Stöckli sales are likely to fall from the previous CHF 65 million to CHF 50 million.

In addition, the Stöckli CEO speaks in an interview with the Handelszeitung about a future project he recently took up: "My personal vision is meaningful recycling of the three million pairs of skis sold worldwide every year." Today, skis that are disposed of are still burned, says Gläser. It would be better, on the other hand, if new skis could be built from old skis again: "If this succeeds, it would also be very interesting for a new business."

Zattoo expands to Austria

The TV streaming provider Zattoo is now bringing Internet-based television to Austria. Zattoo is the first provider in Austria to offer TV service independent of the Internet service provider, without long contract terms and without the need to purchase new devices. The company is entering the Austrian market in partnership with Krone.at.

Zattoo

Krone.at is responsible in particular for marketing and building the reach of the TV streaming service to end customers, while Zattoo is primarily responsible for the operation and ongoing development of the TV streaming platform. Krone.at and Zattoo thus bring their respective core competencies to this partnership. With the partnership, they aim to establish an alternative to traditional TV reception channels, such as satellite and cable TV in particular.

"We have been monitoring the Austrian TV market for a long time. In recent years, our focus has been on Germany and Switzerland," comments Nick Brambring, CEO of Zattoo. "Now everything fits together. The market is ripe for an independent TV streaming provider."

Founded in 2005, Zattoo is based in Zurich and employs over 170 people. It states its reach across Europe as 3 million users. TX Group has held a significant stake in the company since 2008. The group, which also includes Tamedia, has held over 50 percent of Zattoo since 2019. (SDA/pd)

Nexum implements digital study presentation for Swiss Post

Nexum created a digital presentation format based on a responsive microsite for Swiss Post's e-commerce study entitled "Trends in online retail and a closer look at sustainability".

Nexum

The study addressed the question of how the relevance of sustainability aspects is growing in view of the increasing growth in online retail, what expectations customers have of sustainability and how well online retailers are responding to these wishes (Werbewoche.ch reported).

Core of the Microsite is an interactive catalog with over 30 questions and answers from the two studies, which are presented to the visitor in a clear and user-friendly form, separated into main and sub-chapters. The microsite has been optimized for both desktop and mobile devices. Each question is appropriately visualized with dynamic data charts, from which the visitor can read all relevant figures. In addition, the microsite offers a comprehensive download area where all study documents can be downloaded as print-ready PDF files.

Nexum led the development process of the microsite completely through various steps from the elaboration of the content and interaction concept, the wireframes and prototypes as well as the screen design to the technical realization on the basis of an in-house developed No-CMS approach. The data charts used in the microsite were also completely conceived, designed and implemented by Nexum's in-house visual design and front-end team.

Postfinance wants to become more efficient and is cutting jobs

In view of shrinking profits, Postfinance wants to become more efficient and is cutting jobs. By the end of 2021, around 130 full-time positions are to be eliminated at the Swiss Post subsidiary - including in marketing. At the same time, however, around 80 new jobs are to be created, primarily in new digital business areas. The company is also giving itself a new structure.

Postfinance

With these measures, Postfinance aims to stop the negative trend in the company's results, which has been going on for several years, and avoid a slide into the red, according to a company statement on Tuesday. In addition to efficiency improvements, the financial services provider also plans to invest in new business areas.

In the new strategy period, Postfinance will divide its business into four independent business units, which are to operate "largely autonomously" and independently of each other. The new "Business Units" comprise the "Payment Solutions" area with payment transactions, "Retail Banking", the "Digital First Banking" area with a new digital bank and the "Platform Business" with the Valuu platform.

Consultation procedure

The planned reduction of around 130 jobs will primarily affect the retail banking division, a Postfinance spokesman told AWP. Jobs are likely to be eliminated in areas such as customer advisory services and marketing, but also in areas such as IT, operations and human resources.

A further 260 Postfinance jobs will also be subject to "labor law adjustments" - which for those affected may primarily mean new functions or, in certain cases, a new place of work.

The planned job cuts necessitate a consultation process, Postfinance said. In this process, the employees affected will be able to submit proposals on how any redundancies can be avoided or their number limited and how their consequences can be mitigated. The management will examine the proposals received on an ongoing basis and make a final decision at the end of November on "whether and to what extent" the measures will be implemented.

Where possible, job cuts should also be made through natural fluctuation, expiring fixed-term contracts and (early) retirements, Postfinance assures. Where layoffs would occur, a "well-developed social plan worked out with the social partners" would be applied.

New digital jobs

The approximately 80 new jobs will be created primarily in the new digital business and the platform business, where it says it will need "additional staff with a wide range of skills."

As already reported in various media, Postfinance is planning to launch a new digital bank under its own brand next year. Credit Suisse, for example, recently launched such an offering.

In the platform business, Postfinance intends to further develop its current mortgage brokerage platform Valuu. In the future, Valuu is to become an independent "comparison and conclusion platform" in the areas of insurance and retirement planning as well.

Unions with sharp criticism

The Syndicom trade union calls the planned cutbacks at Postfinance a "questionable strategy at the expense of staff". The strategy of the Swiss Post subsidiary remains "vague", it said in a statement. The workforce has also been resentful of the constant reforms for some time, not least because of the "flood of external consultants, who in turn devour vast sums of money".

The union is calling on Postfinance management to take flanking measures for the project that take employees' concerns seriously and include them in the restructuring process.

The Transfair trade union is also critical of Postfinance's plans. It is "right and important" that Postfinance wants to reposition itself, says a Transfair statement. However, the announced reduction of 130 full-time positions and the more than 250 contract adjustments are to be criticized "in the strongest terms". The union also assumes that Postfinance will not only cut staff, but also pull other levers such as fee increases, process optimization and the accelerated digitalization of payment transactions. Syndicom sees need for further training regulations in ICT sector

According to the Syndicom union, there is a clear need for action in the information and communications technology (ICT) sector to include continuing education provisions in employment contracts. This is supported by a survey conducted in collaboration with the University of Applied Sciences Northwestern Switzerland.

Syndicom

Media materials accompanying an online media conference held by Syndicom on Tuesday said 70 percent of respondents in the survey said their employers expected them to participate in continuing education. For 80 percent of the respondents, the last visit to a training course had been financially supported.

Further training regulations in employment contracts - at best collectively secured for all via a CLA - had a positive effect on the further training conditions of ICT employees. On the one hand, those with regulations were more likely to receive financial support for their training activities. On the other hand, those without training regulations in their employment contract were more often forced not to attend training due to lack of time.

Further training instead of staff reductions

Companies have a responsibility to train employees in anticipation of the digital transformation instead of cutting staff, writes Syndicom. A paradigm shift in corporate training policy is now necessary.

The study also showed that younger men with a high level of education were more likely to benefit from the training on offer. In order to strengthen the workplace, the industry and policymakers are now called upon to support specific training and continuing education programs that are accessible to all, especially for the benefit of women, older employees and people with a migration background. Silverspot realizes autumnal film for Echinaforce in midsummer

For A. Vogel's herbal medicine Echinaforce, Silverspot shot a promotional video at 31 degrees in the shade that gives the impression of being filmed during the cold season.

Echinaforce

The elaborate commercial was filmed on three different sets over three days. In a shopping street in Uster, in a specially rented streetcar in Zurich and then in an office location, also in Zurich. The challenge was that filming had to take place in hot 31 degree temperatures with winter clothing, artificial rain and wind.

The commercials have been running since Monday in German, French and Italian-speaking Switzerland on SRF and various Swiss windows of German and Swiss private broadcasters. The commercials can also be seen on PassengerTV and have been adapted internationally for Canada and the Czech Republic.
