BAG and Rod draw attention to the online coronacheck

In its new sub-campaign, the Federal Office of Public Health (FOPH) highlights the coronavirus check. Rod Kommunikation has produced various new ad concepts and clips for this campaign.

63554

With the rapidly increasing number of coronavirus cases, various symptoms of illness are appearing more frequently. The FOPH's new sub-campaign aims to help clarify whether there is a possible infection with the new coronavirus. The campaign draws attention to the online coronavirus check, which can be used to quickly find out whether symptoms of illness necessitate a coronavirus test. Those who complete the check will receive a recommendation regarding a coronavirus test.

The campaign launches Monday with ads, TV spots, online videos and online ads, and later still with digital billboards.

In parallel with the sub-campaign "Coronavirus Check", communication tools will be distributed that address the new measures taken by the Federal Council on Wednesday with the following messages: "Meet fewer people", "Wear a mask in public places", "Keep private events small", "Work in your home office if possible". This campaign was already presented at the Federal Council meeting last Wednesday (Werbewoche.ch reported). As part of this information campaign, spots are also being developed that appeal to everyone's shared responsibility. (pd/swi)

Five star holds hands up for cantonal police Basel City

As every year, the Basel-Stadt Cantonal Police face the challenge of finding enough qualified aspirants for the demanding work as a police officer. The Basel agency Fünfstern supports them with a recruiting campaign.

Fünfstern_Kapo_Rekrutierung_HaendeHoch

Since a completed education but also a good basic physical constitution are considered as admission criteria, especially young people looking for a new perspective should be made aware of the police profession.

In the pitch for this year's recruitment campaign, the Basel-based agency Fünfstern was successful with a cheeky and attention-grabbing text campaign. Through striking design and police command tone, the rather young core target group is "forced" to read and directly addressed.

The cross-media campaign will be implemented digitally and supported with classic advertising media such as posters and public transport advertising. It will run from October to the end of December 2020.

Billions in profits for tech groups in Corona crisis

38 billion dollars—that’s how much the four tech giants—Apple, Google, Facebook, and Amazon—earned combined last quarter. The COVID-19 crisis has not hurt their business—quite the opposite. The companies are benefiting from changes in user and advertiser behavior during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Milliarden

The trend toward online shopping brought Amazon a record profit in the past quarter. Facebook's advertising business is benefiting from the fact that more small companies are going online to compensate for the slump caused by the crisis. At Google, among other things, the business of the YouTube video platform is humming while people are at home more. And at Apple, business with Mac computers and iPads grew in times of home office work and online learning.

Amazon increased quarterly revenue 37 percent year over year to $96.1 billion. Profits tripled to an all-time high of $6.3 billion. "We're seeing more customers than ever shopping for gifts early," Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos stressed. This, he said, was an indication that an "unprecedented" holiday shopping season was ahead.

Amazon held out the prospect of revenues of between 112 and 121 billion dollars for the current quarter. This would be the first time that the Group has broken the 100 billion dollar mark in a quarter. Amazon's delivery services had already benefited strongly in previous quarters from the fact that demand for orders on the Internet rose sharply during the pandemic. Amazon's lucrative cloud business with IT services and storage space on the Internet also continued to flourish recently.

Boost for Facebook

At Facebook, analysts were still worried about the business at the beginning of the crisis. Small and medium-sized businesses make up a large part of Facebook's advertising customers. Many of them - such as cafés or restaurants - have been hit hard by the pandemic. But it turns out that Facebook's business is actually getting a boost as more businesses in the pandemic move online in search of new revenue. The online network's revenue, generated primarily from advertising, rose 22 percent to $21.2 billion. The bottom line was a profit of 7.85 billion dollars - an increase of 29 percent.

Top manager Sheryl Sandberg cited the example of a family business that used to sell soaps made in-house at weekly markets. In the pandemic, she now uses Facebook as a platform and has expanded her business. Facebook is building on this to argue that the online network plays a role worth protecting for the economy in the crisis - and that data protection restrictions, for example, could ultimately harm the economy.

The number of daily active Facebook users rose by 30 million to around 1.82 billion within three months. At least one app from the Group - such as Instagram and WhatsApp - is accessed by 2.54 billion users every day.

Advertising business running smoothly

Thanks to online advertising, profits at Google parent Alphabet also shot up by almost 60 percent to $11.2 billion, while revenues grew by 14 percent to $46.2 billion.

After a damper in the previous quarter, Google's advertising business was running smoothly again and contributed the largest share of revenue at 37.1 billion dollars. In addition, the advertising revenues of the video subsidiary YouTube, which rose by a third to five billion dollars, and the cloud business with IT services on the Internet also flourished.

iPhone sales down

Unlike these companies, Apple still does most of its business by selling devices. And this is where Apple had a problem in the past quarter: The new iPhone generation was not presented in September as usual, but only a month later. That meant a 7.4 percent drop in profits for the quarter, to $12.7 billion.

Year-on-year, iPhone sales fell by a fifth to around 26.4 billion dollars. However, the Group's total revenue still grew by one percent to $64.7 billion. This was due to increased business with iPads and Mac computers, among others, as well as with subscriptions for streaming and other services.

The exciting question now will be whether the Christmas quarter for the new iPhone 12 will be as strong as usual. Finance chief Luca Maestri said in a conference call with analysts that the group expects growth in the business. Mac sales rose 29 percent last quarter to just over nine billion dollars. The iPad business grew 46 percent to $6.8 billion.

At the same time, the successful tech giants are increasingly being targeted by competition authorities in their home market of the USA, where regulators have so far tended to loosen the reins. Last week, for example, the U.S. Department of Justice filed a long-awaited competition lawsuit against Google. It accuses the company of playing off its market power in Internet search and related advertising in a prohibited manner. (SDA)

Digitization as a beacon of hope in the Covid 19 pandemic

Despite the current COVID-19 situation, the Swiss public has a more positive attitude toward the technological advances brought about by digitalization than it did last year. New technologies are making our personal and professional lives easier during the COVID-19-related restrictions. This is shown in the Oliver Wyman study «Switzerland’s Digital DNA.».

Digitalisierung

Digitalization has progressed rapidly in recent months, particularly as a result of the current Covid-19 crisis. A survey of 1,500 people conducted by international strategy consultancy Oliver Wyman shows that most Swiss citizens have a positive attitude towards the internet and technology. Although the downsides of digitalization in terms of jobs, data protection and health were once again a topic of discussion this year, the hopes associated with it have generally increased for most population groups, while fears have decreased.

New jobs

This year, 60% of people living in Switzerland believe that the internet and technology will create new jobs. In the previous year, this figure was 58%. While the approval rate among the working population has remained stable (2020: 58%; 2019: 59%), it has risen among the unemployed (2020: 65%; 2019: 41%) and school and university students (2020: 71%; 2019: 65%). "These differences can also be attributed to the fact that digitalization will create jobs and working conditions in the medium to long term that will encourage a greater prevalence of working from home and more flexible forms of work," says Nordal Cavadini, Partner at Oliver Wyman.

More positive job prospects in more crisis-resistant industries

There are also striking differences within individual industries: In wholesale and retail, positive assessments of job prospects have risen significantly (from 2019: 38% to 2020: 59%), while they have fallen from 54% to 43% in the transport and logistics sector, making it the lowest in the industry comparison. According to Cavadini, this is sometimes "an indicator of the extent to which the current Covid-19 crisis is unsettling employees in the transport and logistics sector, such as airlines". On the other hand, the retail sector is seeing opportunities that are opening up due to developments in the internet and technology despite the pandemic: the online boom, for example, is contributing to this.

Employees in the information and communication industry remain confident, with 71% of them assuming that new jobs will be created for them in the future. The proportion of the population who believe they will be left behind by technology is 21% and has therefore barely increased compared to the previous year across the population as a whole (20%), but has risen slightly among employees (from 21% to 24%).

Digital innovations in the healthcare industry

Hopes for better technologies for diagnosing and curing diseases have increased compared to the previous year, regardless of gender and age, and amount to 59% (2019: 54%). Younger generations in particular are more likely to agree (78%) that the internet and technology will improve disease diagnosis and healing than in 2019 (53% agreement).

For Kolja Dutkowski, Principal in the Digital division at Oliver Wyman, this is hardly surprising: "The current pandemic has made many people aware of the benefits of digital media. Remote consultations via video call, for example, have reduced the risk of being infected when visiting the doctor. In addition, with the introduction of the SwissCovid app at the latest, many people have probably realized that new technologies make important measures to contain the virus - such as contact tracing - much easier".

Digitalisierung

Increasing willingness to share data

Compared to the previous year, the willingness to share data with third parties has also increased slightly (from 2019: 33% to 2020: 37%). Trust in providing personal data to the healthcare sector achieved the highest level of approval, with online retailers and technology companies achieving the lowest level of approval.

Due to the current pandemic, confidence in the internet and technology has increased again in Switzerland this year. Digitalization enables many industries to be relatively better positioned in the current situation. "The aim for companies, public institutions and NGOs should therefore be to adopt digital processes, solutions and services that have proven their worth during the crisis as quickly as possible," concludes Cavadini.

Oliver Wyman surveyed Switzerland's digital DNA for the fourth time at the end of September 2020. It surveyed 1,500 people in German-speaking and French-speaking Switzerland regarding their assessment of the current and future impact of digitalization on 7 different topics: Work 4.0, education, data protection, mobility & infrastructure, e-democracy, health and society & media.

The Study will be published as part of the Swiss Digital Days, an initiative of Digitalswitzerland. On the Digital Days from November 1 to 3, 2020, visitors can expect more than 400 free online and offline offers that promote dialog, strengthen future skills and invite inspiration.

Observer "Prix Courage" 2020 goes to Nadya and Candid Pfister

Nadya and Candid Pfister of Spreitenbach, Aargau, have been awarded the 2020 «Beobachter Prix Courage.» They lost their daughter Céline to suicide in August 2017 and have been fighting against cyberbullying ever since. The prize, worth 15,000 Swiss francs, was presented to them on Friday evening during the digital awards ceremony on Blick TV.

Beobachter

For three years, Nadya and Candid Pfister have been fighting cyberbullying on Instagram and Facebook with the hashtag #célinesvoice. Their only daughter Céline was only 13 years old when she committed suicide in August 2017 after days of bullying via the app "Snapchat." The two teenagers who bullied Pfister's daughter with an intimate picture met a lenient sentence: they got off with a few days of community service. That's why the Pfister couple has been campaigning for digital bullying to be prosecuted in the future ever since. "If even one less child tries to commit suicide, we will have achieved an infinite amount," explains Nadya Pfister. Thanks to the Pfisters' commitment, SP National Councilor Gabriela Suter has since submitted a parliamentary initiative.

The "Beobachter Prix Courage" was chosen by the public via online voting and by the six-member jury. The votes of the audience and those of the jury are weighted 50 percent each.

"Prix Courage Lifetime Award" for "The Offered Hand

The "Beobachter Prix Courage Lifetime Award" for special services to society, endowed with 10,000 Swiss francs, was awarded this year to the aid organization "Die Dargebotene Hand". For over 60 years, the telephone counseling service has been supported by around 670 volunteers who listen to and help other people with a lot of heart and without pay.

Patrik Hasler-Olbrych becomes Head of Communications at GastroSuisse

Patrik Hasler-Olbrych will take over as head of the Communications Department at GastroSuisse, the trade association for the hotel and restaurant industry, effective November 1, 2020. In this role, he will be a member of the executive board and will be responsible for media relations, online communications, and the publication of the industry and association magazine GastroJournal.

Patrik Hasler-Olbrych

The 46-year-old has worked at Agrisano, the insurance and pension company of the Swiss Farmers' Union, since 2010. He was head of communications and marketing and was responsible for media relations. He was also involved in various committees, including the Swiss Insurance Association and RVK, the association of small and medium-sized health insurers. Before joining Agrisano, he was Head of Communications at an international aid organization and ran a publishing company.

Patrik Hasler-Olbrych succeeds Brigitte Meier-Schmid, a long-standing member of the Executive Board at GastroSuisse, who is retiring after 21 years with the association. She announced her decision to leave GastroSuisse at the end of 2020 at the beginning of the year.

Philipp Wyss becomes new Coop CEO

There will be a change at the top at Coop. The board of directors of the retail giant has nominated Philipp Wyss as chief executive officer. He is due to take up his new position in May 2021, according to a statement on Friday.

Philipp Wyss

There will also be a change in the position of Chairman of the Board of Directors. Joos Sutter, the current head of Coop, is to replace Hansueli Loosli at the delegates' meeting next spring. His resignation from the board on this date was already known beforehand.

Previously, Wyss was Vice Chairman and responsible for Marketing and Procurement. He has already been with Coop since 1997. His successor is to be Andrea Kramer.

Joos Sutter had headed the company since 2011 and had already been a member of the Executive Board since 2008. Hansueli Loosli had also taken over the position of Chairman in 2011.

Other changes

In addition, there are to be other personnel changes on the Supervisory Board. Former Federal Councillor Doris Leuthard is to succeed Irene Kaufmann as Vice Chairwoman. Kaufmann will step down next spring after twenty years on the Board. At the same time, Peter Eisenhut, Roman Kuhn, and Hans Jürg Käser will step down for reasons of age.

The replacements for these departures have also been nominated. Grégoire Ribordy (CEO ID Quantique), Michael Fuhrer (CFO Hänseler), Karim Twerenbold (CEO and Chairman Twerenbold Group) and Markus Beer (Head of Coop Bakery Division) are to take their seats as staff representatives, according to the statement. (SDA)

Weko waves through Sunrise takeover by Liberty without conditions

Green light for a multibillion-dollar merger in the Swiss telecommunications industry: The Weko has approved the acquisition of Sunrise by Liberty Global, the owner of UPC, without any conditions or restrictions.

Sunrise

This means that an important hurdle has been cleared, Sunrise announced in a communiqué on Friday. Sunrise welcomes the decision of the Federal Competition Commission Weko. The decision without conditions had been expected.

UPC owner Liberty Global had submitted the purchase offer for Sunrise in August (Werbewoche.ch reported). The American-British cable network giant is digging deep into its pockets: Sunrise shareholders are to receive 5 billion francs in cash. This values Switzerland's second-largest telecommunications group at 6.8 billion francs, including debt.

In the meantime, more than 96 percent of Sunrise shareholders had tendered their shares after the end of the additional acceptance period on Wednesday, the telecom group had reported the previous day. The final result will be published on November 3.

Potential competitor for Swisscom

Once the deal is completed, Sunrise and the cable network operator UPC will be merged. Together, they aim to become a more potent challenger to top dog Swisscom. Together, they will have sales of CHF 3.1 billion and 2.1 million mobile subscribers. With 1.2 million broadband customers and 1.3 million TV subscribers, they will achieve a market share of around 30 percent in each area.

One goal of the merger is also to eliminate the respective weak points. Sunrise, for example, is getting its own fixed network, while UPC is now getting a mobile network. (SDA)

Kids and Advance raise awareness of gender diversity in management positions

Kids Creative Agency and the organization Advance are raising awareness among Swiss executives about the need for greater gender diversity. A collage featuring the 50 CEOs of the SMI Expanded index illustrates just how rare women still are in top leadership positions: Only 4 percent of these companies are led by a woman.

Führungspositionen

Only one in ten managers on Swiss management boards is a woman. This is despite the fact that gender diversity is a key success factor for companies. With the "Let's change the face of Swiss leadership" campaign, the Swiss organization Advance is calling on managers to include more women in management teams. Inspiration on the campaign page for concrete initiatives is intended to support this.

The timing of the campaign is no coincidence: "Especially in times of Covid-19, we want to remind companies to continue their commitment to gender diversity," says Alkistis Petropaki, General Manager at Advance. A commitment to gender diversity is not only an important statement for companies. It also pays off: Mixed teams are proven to make better decisions, are more innovative and can generate more profit, as the McKinsey Report 2020 "Diversity Wins - How Inclusion Matters" shows, for example.

Sensitize with morphing

Kids Creative Agency used morph technology for the campaign: An image, composed of the 50 CEOs of SMI Expanded, conveys at a glance how firmly leadership positions are still male-dominated. The campaign is aimed specifically at managers in Switzerland and is mainly played on online platforms such as LinkedIn, Facebook and Instagram.

Responsible at Advance: Alkistis Petropaki (General Manager), Alexandra Rutsch (Communication Manager), Liza Engel (CPO Deloitte), Claudia Thyme (Director Strategic Development AXA XL). Responsible at Kids Creative Agency: Frédéric Savioz, Valentin Cheli, Joppe Muller, Nathalie Eggen.
