Touchpoints and their importance in the Covid 19 crisis.

The Covid 19 crisis is changing information behavior and needs. The use of touchpoints is correspondingly different. Accelerom's impact analysis "Vorsprung durch Wissen" shows which touchpoints are crucial for successful market cultivation and crisis communication.

Covid-19-Krise

In the "Vorsprung durch Wissen" study, residents from four countries - Germany, Austria, Switzerland and France - were surveyed. The focus was on the following questions: How do people keep up to date with the Corona crisis, how do they form an opinion about what is happening, what frightens them and what wishes do they have for the time after Corona?

To answer this question, more than 80 analog and digital touchpoints were examined. Touchpoints are all the ways in which a person can interact with a topic. The spectrum ranges from posters to websites to a personal recommendation.

How the touchpoints were evaluated

In order to be able to assess the impact of the touchpoints studied, a uniform currency was used: In addition to reach (passive and active reach), the relevance of a touchpoint (touchpoint value) was also recorded. The Touchpoint Value is composed of an emotional, a rational and an action-oriented element. This three-dimensional recording thus corresponds to the recognized attitude concept from persuasion research.

What stands out in the touchpoint matrix

Due to the Covid 19 crisis, specific crisis touchpoints were also integrated into the study, such as "testimonials from affected persons," "behavioral recommendations in public spaces," or "neighborhood assistance." The following key findings for Switzerland emerged:

  • The number 1 touchpoint is "Instruction / recommendation from the government (federal / cantonal), health offices or other government institutions". This touchpoint achieves absolute top scores in terms of reach (92.5%) and relevance (77.1 score);
  • 23 of the 82 touchpoints surveyed achieve above-average relevance and reach among the Swiss respondents;
  • Among these 23 touchpoints, there are four digital touchpoints: "Live ticker," "Website of public TV," "Coverage on newspaper portals," and "Website of the World Health Organization (WHO)."
  • In addition to the digital reporting on the newspaper portals, the printed "Reporting in Daily Newspaper" can also be found here;
  • The "reporting" and "advertisements" of the high-circulation newspapers of the major distributors Coop and Migros are also among the core touchpoints.

Benefits for everyday practice

Thinking and acting from the customer's point of view has become the norm in companies in recent years. But when it comes to the importance of touchpoints, gut feelings and facts diverge widely. Properly interpreted data helps to think outside the box, objectify the new reality, and ultimately make better and therefore more effective decisions. Knowing how people behave in this crisis and what changes will be triggered in the medium term is the raw material for successfully shaping the future.

About the study

"Vorsprung durch Wissen" is a multi-country study (Germany, Austria, Switzerland and France), which was conducted as an independent own initiative by the consulting and research company Accelerom. The study shows which touchpoints people use to find out about the Corona crisis, what scares and moves them, and how they imagine the time afterwards.

The data collection took place between April 2 and 20, 2020. The population of the survey is the linguistically integrated resident population in Germany, Austria and Switzerland (German-speaking Switzerland and French-speaking Switzerland) aged 18 and over. The survey was conducted online. After cleaning and checking the data, the information from 4,485 people could be used. The sampling error is +/- 2.5 percentage points. The 360° touchpoint methodology used was scientifically validated by the Institute for Communication Science and Media Research IKMZ at the University of Zurich.

The prize money amounts to CHF 3,000 each, as the Aargau/Solothurn Media Prize Association announced on Monday. Hossli was also honored with the "Special Prize of the Gottlieb and Hans Vogt Foundation for outstanding research" for his text about the suicide of a young mother of five from Fricktal.

The jury, headed by Hans Schneeberger, selected the three winners from more than 100 entries submitted. The juries for the TV and online categories decided not to award a prize this year.

No outstanding contribution was submitted in the TV category, it was said. The two entries for the online category did not meet the formal and journalistic requirements.

sir mary

It has become particularly clear in the last few weeks: Content stays king. What used to be simple messages are now stories and conversations. To further drive this shift from action to interaction, Sir Mary has hired Julia Fischhaber.

After studying journalism and organizational communication and working as a journalist at Ringier and SRF, Julia "switched sides" and started her advertising career at Jung von Matt/Limmat, where she supported clients such as Microsoft, Migros and Campari in content and PR.

Over the past two years, the 28-year-old launched the podcast "Aude" with industry colleague Kathrin Kern and worked as a freelance content and PR specialist for various direct clients and agencies. Among others at Sir Mary, where she particularly appreciated the agile and innovative set-up: "From the very first meeting together, I realized: "Digital" is written in capital letters here. It was precisely this know-how and the spirit of the agency that ultimately persuaded me to switch from self-employment back to agency life."

Embedded in creation, strategy, media and consulting, SirMary's content team helps clients attract more attention, especially in the digital space, with innovative social media strategies, corporate and editorial writing, podcast concepts and targeted media work.

Time Switzerland is now part of Goldbach's portfolio

Goldbach Publishing expands third-party marketing business. With Die Zeit Schweiz and IQ Media as new clients, Goldbach's portfolio is enlarged by numerous titles.

Goldbach - Die Zeit

The Swiss edition of the weekly The time has been published weekly since 2008 with three extra pages for Switzerland. Zeit Verlag has an editorial office in Zurich, from where the Swiss content is produced for a politically and economically interested readership. The exclusive marketing of the Swiss edition adds a significant title to Goldbach Publishing's third-party marketing portfolio.

Goldbach Publishing - at that time still Tamedia Advertising - entered the field of third-party marketing last fall by taking over the marketing of the print titles of Red Bull Media House and the magazine Annabellewhich is published by the Aargauer Medienverlag Medienart.

Cooperation with IQ Media Marketing

As of June 1, 2020, Goldbach Publishing will start a cooperation with the German marketer IQ Media Marketing. Goldbach Publishing will take over the exclusive advertising marketing of IQ media's titles in Switzerland and Liechtenstein. The print portfolio comprises 18 titles including The time, Time Magazine, Handelsblatt, WirtschaftsWoche and the Daily Mirror.

"With the marketing of IQ Media, we are opening up a new area of business for Goldbach Publishing, thus also opening up the international market for our Swiss clients. Culture is good for health

In a poster campaign, the Brazilian agency Box Comunicação shows that it's perfectly fine to put the newspaper aside every now and then to read a good book or watch a movie.

Kultur

Information is important, and especially during a crisis, many tend to check the news feed even more often than they normally would. In these uncertain times characterized by lockdowns and home offices, however, there are definitely positive aspects to be highlighted as well. Many feel that the current situation is decelerating and that they have more time to devote to cultural activities, among other things. On its posters, Box Comunicação shows with links to stories from films and books that culture can indeed be beneficial to health.

The impact of the Corona crisis on dialog marketing

At the suggestion of one of its members, the Swiss Dialogue Marketing Association (SDV) surveyed its members and other companies interested in the dialogue marketing industry regarding the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Dialogmarketing

The question asked was how they assess the effects of the restrictive measures taken by the federal government due to the Corona pandemic. On the one hand, the current situation and, on the other hand, the assessments for the near future were asked.

The survey shows that companies will adapt quickly to economic changes. The majority of "analog" dialog marketing (DM) is experiencing losses - but not as great as might be expected. Digital DM, on the other hand, is actually seeing increases.

Majority positive expectations for 2021

As far as estimates for the coming year are concerned, most of the companies responding expect business to recover. The "digital providers" in particular expect further increases next year.

Dialogmarketing

Short-time work is an issue

Just over half of the responding companies have requested varying degrees of short-time work between 25-75%. The short-term outlook is estimated to be similarly strong.

Dialogmarketing

Tight liquidity and the reasons for it

One in three respondents sees their liquidity as being at risk. Another third is not sure and the final third sees no problems in its liquidity.

The main reasons for liquidity difficulties are not the restrictions imposed by the authorities, but the resulting or expected decline in demand.

Dialogmarketing

When will things get back to normal?

Personal assessments of the timing of the end of the "Corona crisis" and its economic consequences could not be more different. Respondents expect the "courant normal" to occur in the first quarter of 2021 to the second half of 2022 at the earliest.

Dialogmarketing

The survey was answered in full 54 times, which corresponds to about half of the SDV members. The SDV does not claim any representativeness for the results. Nevertheless, the results would give a valid impression of the state of mind of companies in the dialog marketing industry.

Plan for advertising on WhatsApp remains in place

Facebook still plans to introduce ads on its subsidiary WhatsApp. The company is currently working on unifying its messaging apps. Once this plan is implemented, WhatsApp users can expect to see ads, according to The Information.

Werbung

"Advertising on WhatsApp would be worthwhile for marketers and Facebook. The only question is how high user acceptance would be. WhatsApp has basically replaced SMS, and SMS advertising was not very popular before. It is important that the ads are designed properly. For example, it would be acceptable if ads came from companies that users had contact with on WhatsApp," says social media expert Björn Tantau in an interview with news portal Press release.

Facebook wants to use users' phone numbers to link their WhatsApp and Facebook accounts. This should enable the algorithm to recognize which ads suit which WhatsApp users. However, this plan is controversial within the company. Some executives are concerned that WhatsApp users will delete their Facebook account because of this measure.

Implementation takes years

Facebook first formulated its intention to implement ads on WhatsApp back in 2018. In January 2020, however, the company announced that it was putting these plans on hold for the time being (Werbewoche.ch reported). Although Facebook is still holding on to the idea, according to the report, it could be years before it actually becomes real, as it would be particularly difficult to unify WhatsApp with the other messaging apps. Since the coronavirus has put our everyday lives on the back burner, cultural life has also been paralyzed. When the museums are already closed Annabelle brings the visual arts home to its readers with this exclusive collection.

In a special assignment, Newsroom Communication helps the bank to communicate quickly and multimedia-based in the current situation. On the microsite Valiant-lilaktuell.ch cross-media content was aggregated bilingually. For example, a message from CEO Ewald Burgener, explanations from Valiant's security officer in connection with cybercriminals and Corona, and an interview with an economist from the University of Bern were produced.

Further, Newsroom Communication visited a business directly affected by the Corona situation for Valiant, in compliance with FOPH guidelines. The owner of the clothing store Olmo in Bern tells in an article how his business received an SME loan from Valiant to survive the lockdown period.

In parallel, a special edition of the customer magazine "ValOr" was also implemented in a very short time by the partner agency Klarkom, in close coordination with the digital formats.

The communication measures already have well over 20,000 views on the various channels together. The figures show the great response of a transparent, fast and versatile information communication.

The competition is communicated concisely on the packaging. In addition, a flyer with the winning codes for the castle tour is included in the packaging.
