Violation of privacy: 20 Minutes journalist sentenced

The Neuchâtel Cantonal Court has convicted a journalist from 20 Minutes in an appeal for violation of privacy. He was found guilty of having described the family background in too much detail when reporting on the trial of the double murder in Les Verrières NE.

Justizgebäude_(Hôtel_judiciaire)

The Cantonal Court of Neuchâtel overturned a decision of the Neuchâtel Police Court in its ruling published on Tuesday. The first instance had acquitted the journalist last December. The judge had come to the conclusion that the order not to disclose the family background in order to protect a victim constituted an interference with the content that had no legal basis.

The president of the Swiss Press Council, Dominique von Burg, had recalled as a witness in the trial before the first instance that reporting on the judiciary is fundamental for a democracy. Restrictions would have to be rare and serve a very important public interest. During a court hearing, which is partly held in camera, the role of the journalist and his duty to inform becomes even more important.

However, the public prosecutor's office disagreed. It appealed against the ruling of the police court. It concluded that there was a sufficient legal basis for giving priority to protecting the privacy of a person involved in legal proceedings over freedom of the press in exceptional circumstances.

Further move possible

The journalists' association Imprint expressed its concern about the ruling. It denounced a serious violation of press freedom and recommended that the ruling be referred to the Federal Supreme Court. This was the only way to guarantee that the constitutional mandate of freedom of the press was guaranteed.

20 Minutes has not yet decided on an appeal to the Federal Supreme Court, as Editor-in-Chief Philippe Favre told the Keystone-SDA news agency on Tuesday. He did not want to comment on the case until a decision on a possible appeal of the ruling had been made.

Motive jealousy

The motive of the double murder in Les Verrières in August 2017 was jealousy. A 74-year-old Swiss man apparently could not stand the fact that his former partner, some 20 years his junior, was leading a life with another man and shot them both with a handgun.

The Boudry District Court found the man guilty of murder and sentenced him to 20 years in prison. (SDA)

Clear Channel wins the tender in Köniz

Köniz put the marketing and management of billboard locations on public land out to bid and once again awarded the contract to Clear Channel. The portfolio includes approximately 20 billboard locations in Switzerland’s largest agglomeration municipality.

clear-channel-köniz

The municipality has a very restrictive licensing practice for advertising space in public areas. According to the media company, the advertising space it has gained will thus take on even greater significance. It is "a small but significant offer" that Clear Channel has been able to secure until 2025, according to a statement issued on Tuesday morning.

Serviceplan Suisse creates awareness for Getyourlawyer.ch

On Getyourlawyer.ch, private individuals and SMEs can find the right lawyer within hours and work with him directly on the online portal. Serviceplan Suisse implemented an awareness campaign for the lawyer platform.

Serviceplan

The campaign is designed to quickly build awareness of the new offering in analog and digital media. "We wanted to create stories in the mind with a striking, fast and symbolic implementation that emotionally anchors the benefits of the new offer," comments Executive Creative Director Raul Serrat.

Three motifs have been created on the - not only currently very topical - reasons to consult a lawyer: a mouthgag symbolizes the problems of an SME with gagging contracts, the blue letter represents trouble with the employer and a flying spaghetti plate the marital quarrel before the divorce.

The campaign has been rolled out in various titles and portals of the Ringier Axel Springer Group since Friday.

After 13 months of development, the entire digital world of 20 Minuten appears with a new look, replacing an 18-year-old platform. After the launch of the beta version in November 2019, user feedback was actively incorporated into the final development work, following the example of "Lean Start-up".

A 25-strong team from 20 Minuten, TX Group, Notch Interactive and other partners are responsible for the development of the new responsive website.

The new 20 Minuten website offers the community its own video portal with new video formats in addition to the daily news. In addition, the 20 Minuten radio offering is fully integrated, consisting of several podcasts and five dedicated channels. This offering is continuously supplemented with new content. In addition, the new Lifestyle World will have a major presence on the front as of September, replacing the current integration of Friday.

In the coming weeks and months, more features will follow continuously. The users will be informed about the live ticker App.20min.ch informed about new releases on an ongoing basis. Furthermore, constructive feedback from the readership is taken into account for the next developments in the process. "This new form of collaboration enables 20 Minutes to achieve shorter 'time to market' times and 20 Minutes thus gains agility. In the future, we will be able to react faster to new user needs and develop new features accordingly," says Sven Ruoss, Chief Product Officer.

The launch will be accompanied by a national 360-degree campaign starting on May 6. In collaboration with the lead agency Rod Kommunikation, a high value was placed on topicality in the development of the subjects. The campaign playfully links current events with the place of news consumption.

Jeff, Staay and Mercedes-Benz launch creative coloring app for kids

To help children enjoy their time at home, Mercedes-Benz has teamed up with the Zurich-based agencies Jeff and Staay Interactive to launch an app featuring a creative craft template feature.

jeff

The Corona crisis unfortunately forces many children to stay at home. Mercedes-Benz Switzerland would like to bring some joy into the children's rooms and encourage their creativity with "Kids Car Designer". In the App two vehicle models can be painted, decorated and then ordered as a craft sheet.

3D models of the A- and G-Class

The 3D models of the current A-Class and G-Class are available. The children paint these cars with various color and effect pens and then decorate them with stickers and glitter.

DIY craft sheet

The individually designed vehicles can then be sent free of charge by e-mail as a PDF craft sheet. The children can then assemble their own digitally designed vehicles as real colored paper models.

Decoupling from internal project because of Corona

Jeff and Staay Interactive have been jointly designing and developing a larger internal app project for children on behalf of Mercedes-Benz Switzerland since 2019. In the wake of the Corona crisis, the desire arose at Mercedes-Benz to transfer part of the children's app, which was actually planned for internal purposes, into its own app and make it publicly available to all children free of charge. Within a few days, Jeff and Staay added new features to the app and made it ready for the previously unplanned public launch.

The coloring app is available in four languages and is suitable for children of all ages. It can be downloaded immediately for the iPad free of charge.

SWA postpones annual meeting for another time

The corona virus continues to make it very difficult to plan and hold an event this year. The Swiss Advertising Contractors Association SWA has therefore decided to postpone the annual meeting "Man or Machine?" for a second time from June 3 to September 22, 2020.

SWA

The reasons for this are obvious: on the one hand, a ban on assemblies is still in force today, and on the other hand, the health of all participants as well as an unencumbered event experience are of primary importance to the association. The good news is that all speakers are available on the replacement date. This will allow the SWA implement its conference theme "Man or Machine: Artificial Intelligence in Marketing and Communication" unchanged.

The association hopes that the more than 350 registered participants will also join this "journey" and toast together with him to the 70th birthday coming up this year.

Equality office informs with posters in stores about help in case of violence

Anyone who needs help in connection with domestic violence during the coronavirus crisis should know where to find it. The federal and cantonal task force wants to raise awareness of services with posters in stores. Restricted freedom of movement can lead to more aggression, writes the Gender Equality Office.

Gleichstellungsbüro

So far, the cantons have not recorded a significant increase in reports to victim support or the police, according to the Communication from the Federal Office for Gender Equality (FOGE) from Tuesday. Experts feared that victims would not come forward due to the restricted freedom of movement.

Notice in stores

The poster is to be displayed in stores and provide information about central points of contact to which victims of violence can turn. Pharmacies, bakeries, confectioners and drugstores have already pledged their support, writes the EBG. However, stores in all sectors should print it out and display it.

The aim of the poster is to encourage victims and their relatives or neighbors to seek information or advice from a victim advice center. According to the EBG, the police must be called in the event of an acute threat. They have the power to stop violence or arrange shelter.

The initiative for the poster comes from the federal and cantonal task force against domestic violence. The FOGE, the Federal Offices of Justice and Social Insurance and the relevant intercantonal conferences are represented on it.

Parliamentary commissions behind task force

The education committees of the National Council and Council of States want the task force set up to deal with domestic violence to continue to exist after the coronavirus crisis. They are of the opinion that the Federal Council should allocate further financial resources for the consultation.

Domestic violence is a widespread problem in Switzerland, regardless of the coronavirus crisis, writes the FOGE. Half of homicides are committed at home. Last year alone, the police registered 19,669 crimes in connection with domestic violence. (SDA)

Matterhorn lighting comes to an end after five weeks

Over the past five weeks, Zermatt, VS, has projected more than 80 images onto the Matterhorn night after night. The event came to an end on Sunday.

Light Art by Gerry Hofstetter (Photo: Frank Schwarzbach)

On behalf of the Valais tourist stronghold, light artist Gerry Hofstetter has been illuminating the Matterhorn every day between sunset and 11 p.m. since March 24 - as a sign of hope and solidarity during the coronavirus crisis. Hofstetter has been transforming buildings, monuments, landscapes and mountains around the world into temporary art objects since 1999.

For Zermatt, he projected lettering such as "hope", "solidarity" and "thank you" as well as numerous national flags and cantonal coats of arms onto Zermatt's local mountain, as Zermatt Tourism announced on Monday. The illuminations have attracted worldwide interest. Measured in terms of media coverage, it was probably one of the best campaigns.

Individual posts received up to 1.7 million likes on social media and were even shared by presidents and government representatives. The United Arab Emirates expressed their gratitude by illuminating their Burj Khalifa skyscraper with the Swiss flag.

Criticism from environmentalists

At the same time, the campaign was also criticized. The environmental protection organization Mountain Wilderness complained about the light pollution and criticized the staging as an "inappropriate marketing stunt".

Zermatt Tourism, on the other hand, justified the action by saying that no animals live on the Matterhorn and that the projections do not run all night. Nevertheless, the project should "not serve as a precedent" for further actions. The light on the Matterhorn has now gone out. But if, contrary to expectations, the crisis rises again, the sign of hope will also light up again. (SDA)

Hej now also designs Swica's customer magazine

The health care organization Swica has commissioned the Zurich-based agency Hej to redesign its customer magazine.

Swica

After three years of cooperation for the annual report, Swica decides to also realize the customer magazine, which is published four times a year, with Hej.

"What we appreciate about Hej is that they not only continually surprise us with creative approaches, but also show great attention to detail during the implementation phase," says Silvia Schnidrig, Head of Corporate Communications at Swica.

The first magazine in the new look will be the summer issue, which will be published in August 2020.

In the past weeks, the Swica annual report, designed by Hej, as well as the annual reports of Siegfried and the ETH Board were published. Three further annual reports realized by Hej are currently still being implemented.

Hej was founded in 2014 by Janine Widler and Helm Pfohl. The eight-person team currently serves around 40 clients from business, education, sports and culture.

Central Switzerland in the bag with PilatusToday

CH Media launched the Central Switzerland news portal PilatusToday in March. Following a successful launch phase, the in-house communication campaign "Central Switzerland in the bag" will be launched on Monday.

PilatusToday

"With PilatusToday, we provide Central Switzerland with news, services and entertainment from the region every day. That's why the 'Central Switzerland in a bag' campaign focuses on five testimonials, their 'bags' and their content, with which our Central Swiss users can identify," says Denise Hildbrand, Head of Marketing TV, Radio and Film Sales CH Media.

The campaign strategy, concept and creation were implemented almost entirely in-house. External partners were brought in for the photographic realization and styling. The creation and production of the stop motion spots was again realized by Grips' in-house team. The campaign is based on the FM1Today campaign "Die Ostschweiz im Sack" and focuses on personas from the region. In this way, PilatusToday's launch campaign aims to emphasize regionality and create a personal connection.

The campaign aims to encourage the target group to download the app from Monday. It includes TV and radio commercials, display and video ads as well as activations on the social media channels Facebook, Instagram and YouTube. An out-of-home campaign is also planned for a later date. Due to the current coronavirus crisis, the campaign will focus primarily on measures that correspond to the target audience's current media usage.

Women and wealth: UBS and Farner launch knowledge platform for financial planning

Being a woman makes a difference when it comes to financial planning. UBS and Farner have launched the Women’s Wealth Academy—an online platform for wealth and financial planning designed specifically for women.

UBS

7 out of 10 women leave long-term financial decisions to their spouse. This is shown by the survey of 3700 female investors who took part in the UBS Investor Watch study. This is despite the fact that they face particular financial challenges and demands:

  • At 85.2 years, women in Switzerland live on average four years longer than men and therefore have to make provisions for longer.
  • In Switzerland, 57 percent of all women work less than 90 percent. If the salary is less than CHF 21,330, the employer is not obliged to include part-time employees in the pension fund. Women are therefore more likely to have gaps in their 2nd pillar cover.
  • Women often invest more cautiously than men.

Women run the risk of being significantly worse off

The combination of wage inequality, part-time work, longer life expectancy and investment behavior have a major impact on women's overall wealth. And these factors carry the risk that women will have significantly less money available than men in old age. Addressing the facts and making provisions are therefore important measures.

A platform that empowers, advises and supports

At the Women's Wealth Academy from UBSan initiative of the Wealth Management Switzerland segment, focuses on the requirements and needs of women in the area of finance. The platform contains facts, background information and specific learning content on the topic of wealth and financial planning derived from data-based insights.

The aim of UBS is to accompany, empower and advise women on the entire journey towards greater financial participation - starting with the realization that being a woman also makes a difference when it comes to financial planning, through e-mail learning modules on topics such as retirement planning, to consciously making better financial decisions.

Relevant, convincing content at the right time

The Women's Wealth Academy is marketed by rolling it out to existing customers, activating it via owned channels and then targeting it via search engine and social ads in a multi-stage process. The promotion of the Women's Wealth Academy follows a journey model so that women see the right content at the right time on their way to greater financial participation.

Behavioral framings derived from behavioral psychology are automatically tested in order to better understand emotional triggers for sustainable financial planning. At the same time, UBS is pursuing a long-term SEO approach in the conception and implementation of the content. The content platform is designed, implemented and marketed in close cooperation with the communications agency Farner.

Integrated approach for greater impact

The UBS Women's Wealth Academy is part of the "Women's Wealth" division, which focuses on topics relating to women and wealth. The Women's Wealth Academy is more than just a digital platform. It already exists offline, for example in advisory meetings. In the coming months, it will also be available at branches, events and training courses.
