German consumers prefer context-sensitive online advertising

German consumers want data collection on the Internet to be more transparent. The «Consumer Privacy Survey» by Integral Ad Science shows that 40 percent of respondents now feel uncomfortable with personalized online advertising because they know their data is being used for this purpose.

  • Two-thirds of Germans believe that companies collect too much data about them
  • 40 percent feel uncomfortable with data-based advertising
  • Every second consumer wants contextual targeting

More than one in four (28 percent) are really creeped out by data-optimized targeting, which delivers advertising based on their user information. By comparison, only 17 percent are happy to accept the companies' use of data if they receive relevant ads in return. German consumers see context-sensitive online advertising as a real alternative: in the ranking of current forms of display, contextual targeting (47 percent) comes first among German consumers - followed by behavioral (46 percent), audience (32 percent) and geo-targeting (28 percent).

Out of the predicament with contextual targeting

"Marketing in Germany is increasingly in a quandary: Consumers will continue to want relevant advertising, but please not with their data! Sooner or later, this new data fatigue will necessitate a shift in consumer targeting," says Oliver Hülse, Managing Director CEE at IAS. "Contextual targeting offers advertisers an efficient solution to place their advertising messages in an appropriate, relevant environment without the users' data. Here, consumers are addressed precisely when they are engaged with the topic in question. This not only increases the relevance of the content, but also corresponds exactly to consumers' desire for context-sensitive online advertising."

Data protection comes first for German consumers

For German consumers, data protection is simply part of using the Internet: 91 percent consider privacy to be extremely important when they are online. However, 83 percent are well aware that companies collect their data for advertising purposes on their websites and apps. More than one in two (58 percent) want to actively do something about this and see themselves as responsible for protecting their data from this access.

Regular deletion of cookies (56 percent) and browsing history (45 percent), ad blockers (42 percent) and the use of incognito mode (36 percent) have established themselves as the preferred data protection measures among consumers. For relevant and personalized advertising, Germans would be most willing to disclose their data when shopping (49 percent), streaming video (42 percent) and e-mailing/messaging (41 percent).

The "Consumer Privacy Survey. was conducted by Integral Ad Science (IAS) in April 2020. In an online survey, 538 internet users in Germany were questioned during this period.

Digitec is back with a new campaign

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the launch of the Digitec advertising campaign—originally scheduled for March—was postponed to early June.

Digitec

The posters had already been printed and in the meantime had to be stored at the outdoor advertising partners of Digitec Galaxus.

The marketing team has used the time since March to create more subjects: Now, not only product reviews are shown, but also questions, comments and discussions. In French-speaking Switzerland, a customer even made it onto the poster: she had commented that she would also like to be seen on one of the posters. Digitec Galaxus granted her wish.

On over 7,500 posters in German- and French-speaking Switzerland, the online electronics retailer is showing real opinions from real customers. At the same time, the subjects will be seen as online banners, hanging boxes, print ads, ePanels and eBoards. Like the previous campaigns, this one was realized entirely in-house.

Treasure hunt of the BZ Berner Zeitung will take place again this year

Thanks to a series of precautionary measures, the BZ Treasure Hunt will take place again this summer, kicking off for the eighth time on July 4. Once again, five routes throughout the canton of Bern await treasure hunters of all ages.

Berner Zeitung

A treasure chest from the BZ treasure hunt in 2019.

This year's treasure hunt is taking place under special circumstances for a given occasion. However, the five routes in the city of Bern, in Oberhofen/Gunten on Lake Thun, in Frutigen, in Burgdorf and in Roggwil are designed in such a way that the familiar distance rules can be observed without any problems along the way. There are also provisions at the finish: at the treasure chest at the finish, the route is signposted and regulated so that treasure hunters can observe the distance rules at all times.

All participants are also asked to use public transportation or slow-moving traffic and to observe the known hygiene measures. Treasure hunters are urged to remain on the trail at all times, either individually or as a family, not to form large groups, and to keep their distance from other participants. These measures should ensure that the treasure hunt is a carefree and safe experience for all.

The treasure hunt special supplement with the individual treasure maps will be available on July 4, 2020 in BZ Bernese Newspaper, BZ Langenthaler Tagblatt, Thuner Tagblatt, Bernese Oberland and additionally in the Confederation to find. The maps of each route can also be downloaded online.

Rückblick_Graubünden_Pressekonferenz

Now the story continues to be told: Gian and Giachen are back in the mountains after the press conference and receive the invited guests with great commitment.

The film marks the start of the communication campaign #EndlichGraubünda, which is being played out throughout Switzerland as of today. In addition to films and various online and offline measures, the multi-stage tourism impulse program includes a large number of new offers on Graubuenden.ch and is intended to inspire domestic holidaymakers in particular to spend their summer vacations in the expansive and eventful nature of Graubünden.

"Have space and move"

The focus of the impulse program is on the needs of the Swiss for the time after Covid-19: "People want to move around now, discover a lot in nature and, above all, have space," says Martin Vincenz, CEO of Graubünden Ferien, adding: "With a population density of 28 people per square kilometer, Graubünden is the most sparsely populated canton in Switzerland."

Over 11,000 kilometers of hiking and biking routes invite you to action and relaxation. Especially in the remote valleys and at off-peak times outside school vacations, visitors can enjoy the extensive nature undisturbed and, with a bit of luck, observe wild animals.

If you need more than vacations, you need Switzerland: Wirz launches new Switzerland tourism campaign

With «I Need Switzerland,» Switzerland Tourism is launching a large-scale, multi-year platform that showcases Switzerland’s energizing natural beauty both nationally and internationally.

In Switzerland it is possible to experience a pristine nature, which is easily accessible. Those who want to experience a sunset in front of a breathtaking panorama can get there safely and on time. If you want to cool off outside, you can always jump into a crystal clear lake without any worries. In Switzerland you won't be eaten by wild animals, and you can get anywhere on the mountains either by hiking boots or by gondola. It is precisely these advantages that make Switzerland and its nature a vacation destination where everyone can recharge their batteries to the maximum.

In short: If you really want to relax, if you really want to escape from everyday life, if you really want to return to everyday life full of energy, then you need more than a vacation. Then you need Switzerland. "Wirz condenses this core advantage of Switzerland as a vacation destination into the multifaceted platform we are launching today: 'I need Switzerland,'" says André Hefti, Head of Marketing at Switzerland Tourism.

A platform as diverse as Switzerland

Topical and thematic subjects bring Switzerland to the respective target groups - on all digital channels and OOH. Furthermore, the platform "I need Switzerland." will be made accessible in an emotional film. Due to COVID-19, the originally globally planned campaign will initially focus on Switzerland and neighboring countries. This will be followed by various highlights that put Switzerland in the spotlight off the beaten track.

Switzerland needs more tourists

COVID-19 has led to a massive slump in guest numbers; guests from Switzerland and Europe have been almost completely absent in recent weeks and months. High time to win them back for Switzerland.

"We are aware of the responsibility. With 'I need Switzerland.' we've laid out the carpet for many other measures," says Livio Dainese, Co-CEO I CCO of Wirz BBDO, adding: "But above all, we're mighty proud that as of today we're allowed to sell Switzerland worldwide."

Art.I.schock dares experiment X with Festspiele Zürich

As Festspiele X, the Zurich Festival will start its last edition on Friday. After the ban on events as part of the Covid 19 measures, the program was radically changed and a digital festival was set up. The Zurich agency Art.I.schock accompanied them.

Art.I.schock

Like so many events and festivals, the Zurich Festival was well on its way when the Corona virus took over the world and triggered, among other things, the event ban. The program was in place and the campaign and its implementation, conceived by Art.I.schock, were underway with a focus on public transport, posters and street actions.

After the lockdown, the Festspiele weighed up the options and came to the decision to launch a digital festival. With "Festspiele X" they wanted to be there for the audience especially in this time and considered the topic "intoxication of the now" as topical as never before. Art.I.schock developed and realized a digital stage on which the festival will take place over the next three weeks.

The further relaxation of the measures, which is valid from Saturday, now makes it possible to carry out smaller events at short notice also analogously. The original as well as the new appearance was designed and implemented by Art.I.schock. The Zurich agency also closely supported the Zurich Festival in the development of the digital festival, including all advertising measures with a new focus on digital formats.

Büchi is leaving the company at his own request to take on new professional challenges in the future, according to the statement. His current deputy, Pascal Frei, will take over on an interim basis from July 1. Büchi will accompany the handover process over the next few months.

Büchi has developed the former local radio station into a leading entertainment group, Ringier CEO Marc Walder is quoted as saying. The Energy Group includes the radio stations of the same name in Basel, Bern and Zurich. According to its own figures, the radio group reaches 721,000 listeners daily on FM and DAB+.

Dani Büchi has also been responsible for the relaunch and implementation of the Moon&Stars music festival at the Piazza Grande in Locarno for three years. He has also been responsible for numerous corporate events for Ringier and its partners. (SDA/swi)

SRG launches new streaming platform "Play Suisse" in November

Starting in November, SRG is relaunching its streaming services with the "Play Suisse" platform. The service will offer content in the original language from all language regions with subtitles in German, French and Italian.

The new national streaming platform offers a curated selection of in-house and co-productions such as films, series, documentaries, reports and archive gems, SRG announced on Friday. Thanks to the optional subtitles, the content is accessible to users across language borders, with selected titles also available in Romansh.

At the end of July, the platform will initially be opened for internal use in order to obtain feedback from a larger circle of employees. In October, the pre-launch will take place with around 5,000 external users. The official launch will then take place in November.

Free space for cooperations

The name chosen leaves room for cooperation with external partners, the statement continues. For example, the media group CH Media is planning its own streaming services.

The offers of CH Media's stations, including 3+, for example, and other TV content are to be made available on a single platform. The media company is also in talks with SRG, among others, to limit costs and offer more content.

The use of streaming services has increased markedly in Switzerland, and not just since the Corona crisis. Swiss telecommunications providers are increasingly integrating the US streaming service Netflix as well as Sky, YouTube and the sports streaming platform Dazn. (SDA)
