TV streaming in Switzerland remains on course for success

In Switzerland, television via the Internet is now an alternative of equal value to classic reception channels such as cable or satellite. In recent years, the share of TV streaming services has increased significantly. The Swiss are streaming more and more content on the big screen. This is the conclusion of the TV Streaming Report 2020.

In Switzerland, television via the Internet is now an alternative of equal value to classic reception channels such as cable or satellite. In recent years, the share of TV streaming services has increased significantly. The Swiss are streaming more and more content on the big screen. Internet TV has now become an equal alternative to traditional TV reception via cable. 49 percent of the Swiss already use the Internet as a reception channel for their television programming. Even though more Swiss internet users (51 percent) receive television via cable, internet television continues to grow significantly and is up 8 percentage points compared to 2019. Reception via satellite (8 percent) and DVB-T (3 percent) are of little importance to those surveyed, each losing 3 percentage points compared to the previous year.

Use of TV streaming services on the rise

32 percent of all Internet users in Switzerland use TV streaming services in more than half of their TV time. A good third use TV streaming for up to 50 percent of their TV time. Another third do not use any TV streaming services at all. Last year, this figure was 5 percentage points higher. At the same time, 51 percent of Swiss internet users can already imagine streaming TV exclusively via the internet in the future. 9 percent are already doing so.

Streaming on the big screen

Use on smart TV continues to grow significantly, gaining 6 percentage points over last year to 39 percent. Another 11 percent use streaming devices to watch TV over the Internet. This means that around 50 percent of Swiss streaming users already watch their TV on the big screen. As in the previous year, the most popular devices for watching TV via the internet are laptops and PCs, with 50 percent. Compared to 2019, the trend is stagnant and has not changed. Use on the tablet continues to decline sharply, losing 8 percentage points compared to 2019. The smartphone is also used less, losing 4 percentage points.

3.-Auf-welchen-Geräten-schauen-Sie

Why TV streaming on the big screen is so popular is also reflected in the figures for TV sets in Swiss households with Internet access. Among the Swiss who have at least one TV in their household, 71 percent own a TV connected to the Internet. 44 percent even directly as a smart TV and 14 percent via a streaming device. Among those who have a TV connected to the Internet, 41 percent use apps on the TV to stream moving image content.

Increased use of TV offerings on the Internet through Corona

For the report, Zattoo users were asked how the Corona crisis has affected their TV behavior. This is because the private and social restrictions of recent months have also significantly changed the use of the TV offering this year.

The user survey, in which more than 250 Zattoo users in Switzerland took part, found that 23 percent of users used streaming services more often during the Corona crisis than before. At the same time, 48 percent watched more live TV and over 40 percent each watched more video-on-demand offerings or YouTube.

5.-Welche-Formate-nutzt-du-seit-der-Krise-häufiger-als-vorheR

53 percent of Swiss Zattoo users say they watched live TV more often as an alternative to activities that were not possible due to the restrictions. 40 percent, on the other hand, wanted more information and another 13 percent used live TV more often to distract themselves from the crisis.

6.-Aus-welchem-Grund-schaust-du-seitdem-öfter-Live-TV-bzw.-länger-Fernsehen

The TV Streaming Report 2020 is based on a survey conducted for the third year in a row by Kantar on behalf of Zattoo Europe among 800 online users in Switzerland.

Pink, Bosch and stress fight against food waste

The home appliance manufacturer Bosch wants to raise awareness about food waste. Together with rapper Stress and the agency Rosarot, it launched a comprehensive content campaign—featuring a landing page, contests, and a «Food Waste» rap song.

Rosarot

At the center of the campaign is a 60-second music clip. While jogging through Lausanne, Stress notices bizarre and unusual everyday situations. The recurring lettering "Fresh" accompanies the singer all the way home. When he reaches for his water bottle, he discovers it in his Bosch refrigerator with VitaFreshPro drawer. Its freshness-keeping technology is said to keep food fresh up to three times longer. Inspired by the technology that helps people avoid food waste, Stress uses rap at the end of the clip to call on people to consume consciously and throw away less food: "penser durable.

Private households are the biggest food waste producers

With around one million metric tons of food waste - equivalent to a share of 39 percent - private households are the biggest source of food waste, ahead of the food industry (37 percent), the food service industry (9 percent), agriculture (9 percent), and the retail trade (4 percent). By developing household appliances, Bosch wants to help reduce this food waste and thus develop a more sustainable lifestyle.

Recipes and tips against food waste

The campaign is accompanied by the landing page Bosch-fresh.ch with content on the topic of food waste, recipes for menus with leftovers, tips against food waste and an interview with Stress. In addition to the landing page, Rosarot has also implemented other measures such as animated online banners, native ads and POS material. The campaign also includes two competitions. Besides the main raffle #boschfresh, where concert tickets and a meet & greet with Stress can be won, there is also a raffle for hoodies signed by Stress with the "fresh" logo on the front.

With the "YB TV Second Screen" to the Bernese Double

On Sunday, the extraordinary 19/20 football season came to an end with BSC Young Boys' victory in the cup final. With the "YB TV Second Screen", Newsroom Communication produced a complementary offering for all YB fans live from the stadium.

Newsroom Communication

For more than ten years, Radio Gelb-Schwarz and the agency behind it, Newsroom Communication, have been an integral part of every BSC Young Boys match. Before Covid-19, in addition to the radio commentary, the production of in-house TV and YB TV were also part of the scope of services. However, as fans currently only have limited access to the stadium, the Bernese digital communications agency worked with YB in June to develop a concept for a second-screen offering - the first in Swiss club football history - within a very short space of time. According to the press release, the new format has been a complete success. Since the championship restarted, over 50,000 football fans have followed the action in the stadium via the digital second screen.

Facebook fears loss of advertising due to iOS 14

Social media giant Facebook fears Apple's iOS 14 update will halve its advertising revenue and also that of app developers who use its ad tracking tools.

Facebook fürchtet Werbeverlust durch iOS 14

The update includes several privacy features that make it harder for companies to track consumers online with personalized ads without their consent.

Explicitly ask for permission

App developers use the so-called "Audience Network" on Facebook, which allows them to show targeted personalized advertising based on user data from the platform. Apple devices make this information available to Facebook and its advertising partners by means of an "Identifier for Advertisers" (IDFA). With iOS 14, however, each individual app user must explicitly ask for permission for this data exchange. If users do not agree, app developers will not be able to do any ad tracking.

According to Facebook, these new privacy features will cause many users to ban tracking, which is especially a disadvantage for small businesses that rely on advertising revenue. "The update will hurt many of our developers at what is already a very difficult time," the group warns.

Advertising revenues halved

For the time being, Facebook no longer wants to take advantage of Apple's IDFA information. The company estimates that advertising revenue from apps could drop by more than half. Therefore, using the Audience Network on Apple devices might not pay off in the future. (pte)

Cab realizes complete web relaunch for the Swiss Refugee Agency

The Basel-based agency Cab Services carried out a complete website relaunch for Swiss Refugee Aid.

Cab Services

Topics such as flight, asylum and migration are highly topical. It is therefore all the more important for the SFH as an umbrella organization to actively inform and at the same time sensitize readers. Refugee Aid offers a wide range of topics with articles, position papers, consultations and a large number of country reports. Visitors should nevertheless be able to find their way around quickly and identify the content they are looking for in a short time. Under this motto, the relaunch of the SFH website conceptualized.

Based on analyses and workshops, Cab worked with SFH in an iterative process to develop a set of specifications. From this, requirements were developed and refined to meet the functional scope and high quality demands. This was to be reflected in the design as well as experienced in the user experience of the user.

Nueva assisted in the design process

The sister company Nueva was brought in for the design. The design was focused on functionalities. A new concept should enable editors to categorize and link documents with their diverse subject areas - and thus simplify their overall work process. Info boxes and article teasers should ensure a better user experience.

Quick help through quick donation

A donation widget that enables spontaneous and secure transfer of donations of any amount and is easy to use should provide the provider with higher revenues. RaiseNow is well-known in Switzerland and is popular due to its reliability and flexibility.

From concept to go-live, the focus was always on usability. Usability was to be a high priority so that even occasional users would immediately feel comfortable and find their way around.

Special focus on mobile

The design was also preferably created for mobile devices. The content should be optimally displayed on every device and especially on small smartphones. The motto for the design itself was "less is more". It should be appealing and modern, but not too obtrusive or "spaced out". The new look fits perfectly with the new minimalist structure - it is fresh and not distracting, but emphasizes and tempts through unobtrusive animations to click on and read through.

Brands' political statements often seen as hypocritical

For a good one in two young Britons, statements by brands on social problems are cynical and hypocritical. They consider such gestures to be lip service, intended only to improve the brand's image and deflect criticism. That's according to a survey by the Hype Collective agency.

Politische

The Capitol Records music label has "Black Lives Matter" writ large on its banner.

"If a brand takes an active stance on a socio-political issue, it should mean it very seriously. A company must think carefully about what and why it is taking a stand and whether it would make its statement again later. Jumping on a trend in the short term can damage the image in the long run. If brands have no particular interest in a topic, they'd better not say anything at all about it," explains brand strategist Michael Brandtner in an interview with the news portal Press release.

Hype Collective conducted the survey among 1,000 Britons between the ages of 18 and 24. A total of 59 percent doubt the honesty of brand statements on social problems such as racism. However, for the majority of respondents (94 percent), this lack of authenticity is not yet a reason to boycott a brand.

Politische

Support for the wrong reasons

In fact, 80 percent of young Britons even believe that brands have the right to support any sociopolitical movement, even if it goes against their usual orientation. For 71 percent, brands are doing the right thing by speaking out against social injustice, even if they are doing so for the wrong reasons. A similar finding emerged from another study in June, according to which U.S. consumers demand statements from brands on the issue of racism.

"The exception is when a socio-political issue fits exactly with the attitude a brand has always had. Brands must always focus on their strengths and core competencies. If this relates to a current social issue, the brand should also take a stand on it," says Brandtner. (pte/swi)

"Hoi Vaduz!": Kernbrand enables community communication via app

The St. Gallen-based agency Kernbrand has developed an app for the municipality of Vaduz.

Kernbrand

Originally, the municipality of Vaduz planned a reporting app so that its residents could easily report damage or untidiness. In the course of the project, the app "Hoi Vaduz!" was created.

Suggestions, ideas, praise, and even damage reports can now be sent directly to the responsible department via the app. The ticketing system saves individual messages, and their completion can be tracked by all users. A friendly illustrated character guides the user through the app in a playful way.

Communication with authorities is one of Kernbrand's core competencies. Thus, the app was continuously developed together with the municipal officials and the requirements were technically implemented. The result is an unconventional, refreshing community app that can be downloaded from the app stores.

The communications department of Vaduz can independently update the content using an editor and also has the option of informing the population via push messages.

Four tips for empathetic customer communication

At a time when it is increasingly important to ensure that resources are used properly, a company must not forget to continue responding adequately to its customers. Pegasystems, a provider of strategic software solutions, offers tips on how to improve customer loyalty through empathetic communication during the current COVID-19 crisis.

kommunikation

Unrestricted communication with customers is particularly important in crisis situations. However, sick employees, home office and network problems make it more difficult for companies to maintain their normal work processes - not to mention the additional requirements that arise due to the increasing need for communication during the crisis. These difficulties result in, among other things, long waiting times and dissatisfaction on both sides: Both customers and employees are frustrated.

Companies are therefore faced with the urgent task of reorganizing their service teams under the changed conditions. At the same time, they are faced with the challenge of offering their customers, who are often affected by the crisis or unsettled by it, first-class service and conveying a sense of understanding. These challenges cannot be overcome without modern tools and methods. There are four strategies that can help.

Use of digital channels to increase effectiveness

Customer contact numbers will remain at a high level for the foreseeable future and can hardly be managed with the existing tools without additional employees. The use of digital channels such as web chats, business chats and messengers in customer communication promises a way out of this dilemma. They can handle a much higher call volume and reduce costs at the same time.

Use of digital tools to reduce the contact volume

Self-services, chatbots and intelligent virtual assistants (IVA) help to answer many inquiries in advance and thus reduce the number of call contacts. Modern bot technology can now use methods such as speech recognition (natural language processing) and sentiment analysis to identify many of a customer's needs and wishes, respond appropriately and thus relieve employees of some of the call volume.

Use of digital tools for e-mail communication

Manual e-mail correspondence is extremely time-consuming. This means enormous effort for companies and employees and long waiting times for responses for customers. Email bots with natural language processing (NLP) can automate this communication channel for viewing and selecting emails. They are already so advanced that they have a success rate of around 75 percent. This results in faster email response times and positive cost effects.

Use of elaborate methods in team and customer communication

Case lifecycle management and microjourney are flexible methods that streamline and optimize team collaboration and interaction with the customer on the basis of transparent service levels (SLA). This enables the customer-centric processing of all necessary service activities, which is crucial for high customer satisfaction.

"Such measures can drastically reduce the workload for service teams," explains Kay Knoche, Principal Consultant Next Best Action at Pegasystems. "At the same time, the conditions are created for being able to communicate with customers faster, more efficiently, more specifically and more empathetically, thus offering a positive experience in contact with your own company."

Pegasystems is a provider of customer engagement software for sales, marketing, service and operations. Pega's CRM and Intelligent Automation solutions include artificial intelligence technology and robotic automation for an optimized customer experience.
