There is an acute need for personnel in the nursing professions throughout Switzerland. This is also increasing due to the current coronavirus pandemic. Waid and Triemli City Hospitals also urgently need new nursing staff. With the continuation of the charm offensive from 2019 and with "Mis Züri. Mis Spital", the city hospital is also entering a logical new round of recruitment with "Mis Spital. Min Job".

The campaign portrays and involves various care professionals from different areas. They talk about their day-to-day work in short films. They are accompanied and interviewed by Dr. Fabian Unteregger, comedian and doctor.

The cross-media campaign is now running across all media in the greater Zurich area.

Allianz and Sir Mary realize Gondola Cinema on the Stanserhorn

Extraordinary times need extraordinary solutions: Allianz and Sir Mary are launching the Gondola Cinema on the Stanserhorn as the first in a series of exceptional cinema events. With this, the insurance company wants to continue its annual cinema engagement in a Corona-compliant way.

allianz-sirmary-gondelkino

Watching a blockbuster from a gondola at an altitude of 1350 meters - Allianz made this experience possible for six winners in October. The friends enjoyed the breathtaking view of Lake Lucerne and the Alps from a convertible gondola on the Stanserhorn cable car. The action film "Cold Pursuit" was shown on a screen attached to the second gondola. The Zurich agency Sir Mary was responsible for the adventurous open-air cinema.

After the Allianz Cinema am Zürisee and the Allianz Cinema Day had to be cancelled this year due to Corona, the insurance company and Sir Mary came up with new ideas. The Gondola Cinema marks the beginning of a series of events for which only tickets can be won.

Lucky winners

In the conception of the unconventional cinema, Allianz and Sir Mary stuck to the in-house motto "Courage means making". More than 4,000 people took part in the draw for the tickets on Blick.ch. The winner was Walti Göldi and five of his friends. The evening was documented and prepared in the style of an action trailer for the social channels.

Commitment to Swiss cinema

As an alternative to Allianz Cinema and Allianz Cinema Day, Allianz already organized the drive-in cinema "Allianz Drive-in Cinema" in the summer. As part of the second "Cinema on Tour" event series, a winter forest cinema is next on the agenda. Another event is to follow in early 2021.

Advertising on Amazon strengthens business outside

Advertising on Amazon yields a 20 percent higher return on investment for sellers than traditional forms of marketing. In half of all cases, such ads also influence sales outside of Amazon. This is according to a study by the consulting firm Analytic Partners. According to the analysts, marketers need to pursue an «omnichannel» strategy that incorporates both online and traditional advertising simultaneously.

christian-wiediger-amazon-unsplash

"Consumers have never before lived in such a highly connected world. This has led to the trend of 'omnishopping'. Here, customers search for or experience a product in one channel, eventually converting to another. That's why the interplay between marketing online and offline is becoming increasingly complex. Amazon embodies this complexity. It is not only a strong sales platform, but also an important channel for advertising," says Analytic Partners.

For the study, the company examined the marketing spend of more than 700 brands from 45 different countries. Amazon advertising has proven to be particularly rewarding for brands. This advantage has lasted constantly through the entire Corona pandemic. According to the analysts, this means that the effect is permanent and not due to the new e-commerce boom.

Customers on different channels

Ads on Amazon also have a positive impact on sales in other channels. 48 percent of ads seen on the e-commerce giant's site boost sales outside it. This effect is less strong when sellers pay for a good place in Amazon search results. In 29 percent of cases, this improves sales on channels other than Amazon.

According to the study, providers must take advantage of these effects and understand that modern consumers are always on the move on different channels. Marketing needs to be done in a much more comprehensive way. Every ad can entice customers to buy in other areas, which is why retailers need to track their journey through different touch points. SRG ombudsman's office agrees with Rhaeto-Romansh people

Not mentioning Romansh at all in a program about multilingualism violates the SRG's principle of fairness. The umbrella organization of the Romansh language associations, Lia Rumantscha, successfully intervened with the Ombudsman's Office of SRG German-speaking Switzerland.

srftagesgespräch08072020-srfch

The fourth national language remained unmentioned on July 8 of this year in the 17-minute program "Tagesgespräch" on Radio SRF1. The topic was multilingualism in Switzerland. As Lia Rumantscha announced on Monday, it met with full understanding with its complaint.

To omit Romansh and not to mention the Italian-speaking Grisons was more than a mistake, the complaints office admitted. The Lia Rumantscha is satisfied with the statement received and refrains from taking the complaint to the Independent Complaints Authority for Radio and Television UBI.

This is not the first time that Rhaeto-Romansh speakers have been forgotten by SRG in reports about languages. About four years ago, the Lia Rumantscha felt compelled to contact the Ombudsman's Office because SRF's "Tagesschau" did not mention the fourth national language in a report about Switzerland's quadrilingualism and multilingualism. Three external investigations into allegations of misconduct at RTS.

Two external bodies are investigating the recently disclosed allegations of harassment at Radio Télévision Suisse (RTS). SRG’s internal audit department is also reviewing, with external support, the existing measures in place to protect employees’ personal integrity.

RTS

As RTS announced on Monday afternoon, the Geneva law firm "Troillet Meier Raetzo" and the independent experts Muriel Epard and Stanislas Zuin were commissioned. Three independent investigations would thus be launched.

The entire Board of Directors and he himself are committed to a complete, independent investigation of the cases at RTS as well as the responsibilities and the suitability of the existing instruments for the protection of personal integrity, SRG Board of Directors Chairman Jean-Michel Cina is quoted as saying in the statement. This is owed to the people affected.

On Wednesday, the editor-in-chief of RTS news broadcasts, Bernard Rappaz, had announced his temporary retirement in connection with the harassment allegations (Werbewoche.ch reported). (SDA/swi)

Sunrise boss Krause becomes CEO of the merged Sunrise-UPC

Sunrise CEO André Krause will become CEO of the merged Sunrise-UPC. Following the completion of the acquisition of Sunrise, UPC’s owner, Liberty Global, has appointed the German executive to lead the new heavyweight in the Swiss telecommunications market.

The move marks UPC CEO Baptiest Coopmans' return to parent company Liberty Global after 10 months at the helm of the Swiss cable operator, where he will assume a senior operational role, the U.S.-British company announced in a communiqué Monday.

Krause is an outstanding leader with a proven track record of growth, innovation and value creation at Sunrise, Liberty CEO Mike Fries said in the communiqué. He is uniquely qualified to lead the integration of UPC and Sunrise and execute on growth plans, he added. Krause's appointment had become apparent after Coopmans was elected to Sunrise's board of directors a week ago.

Ex-UPC boss returns

In addition, Coopmans' predecessor at the top of UPC, Severina Pascu, will return to Switzerland. She will become vice CEO and chief operating officer of the joint Sunrise-UPC, Liberty Global further wrote. Pascu was previously vice chief executive and chief financial officer of Virgin Media in the UK. She had led UPC from September 2018 to January 2020 (Werbewoche.ch reported).

Fries said he was thrilled that Pascu was coming back to Switzerland. She is a world-class operational leader with great experience in the Swiss market, he said. Pascu and Krause are a "dream team," he said.

In the coming weeks and months, the further management team will now be determined and the structure of the joint organization defined, Krause said in an interview with the AWP news agency. After that, it will be decided who gets which job. "You can only make a job cut once you have defined the processes. At management level, it will happen faster, at employee level later."

The new company will be called Sunrise-UPC. The brands to be used on the market are still under consideration. "It will probably not be just one brand," said Krause.

Until the integration is completed early next year, however, Sunrise and UPC will operate independently of each other, Liberty Global explained. The Group is thus following through with its plans as it had announced earlier.

Potential competitor for Swisscom

Together, Sunrise and UPC want to become a more potent challenger to top dog Swisscom. Together they will achieve sales of CHF 3.1 billion and have 2.1 million mobile subscribers. With 1.2 million broadband customers and 1.3 million TV subscribers, they will achieve a market share of around 30 percent in each area.

One goal of the merger is also to eliminate the respective weak points. Sunrise, for example, is getting its own fixed network, while UPC is now getting a mobile network.

Acquisition completed

Liberty Global had completed its takeover of Sunrise last Wednesday with the acquisition of more than 98 percent of Sunrise shares. The cable network giant had submitted the billion-dollar purchase offer for Sunrise in August (Werbewoche.ch reported). Sunrise shareholders will receive CHF 5 billion in cash. This values Switzerland's second-largest telecommunications group at CHF 6.8 billion, including debt.

Now the procedure for the compulsory compensation of the remaining minority shareholders (in technical jargon "squeeze-out") is initiated, whose shares are to be declared invalid. After completion of this procedure, the Sunrise shares are to be delisted from the Swiss stock exchange SIX. (SDA)

Especially young people suffer from travel deprivation

In these difficult times, it’s all the more important to focus on things that make you feel good. According to a survey by Ebookers, travel is one of those things for many people. About 50% of all Swiss people missed traveling in 2020—and young people in particular are suffering from travel withdrawal. Geographically speaking, people in western and eastern Switzerland miss traveling to faraway places the most, while those in central Switzerland tend to place a higher priority on safety.

young-traveller-unsplash

With the help of a representative survey, the online travel platform wanted to know what significance travel has for the mental and physical health of people in Switzerland and how the past few months have affected them in this respect.

Travel important for well-being

Travel plays an important role for people in Switzerland: More than half (55%) of respondents say that travel is important for their mental health. Apparently, it is especially women who benefit from the positive effect of travel on the psyche: For 61% of the women surveyed and 49% of the men surveyed, travel contributes to mental well-being.

Especially young people suffer from travel deprivation

There is also a generation gap: Among those under 30, there are 63% whose mental health benefits from travel, while the state of mind of those over 50 is somewhat less dependent on it: In this age group, it is 48% of respondents who state that travel is good for their mental state.

Central Swiss, the safety aspect is more important

Travel was particularly missed in western and eastern Switzerland in the current year: 60% of respondents in French-speaking Switzerland and in the cantons of eastern Switzerland respectively stated that they had missed traveling in 2020. In northwestern Switzerland, this figure is significantly lower at 45%.

And when it comes to physical health, the people of northwestern Switzerland also appear to rate the importance of travel somewhat lower than residents of the rest of Switzerland: 23% stated in the survey that vacations and travel were important for their physical well-being, whereas in Zurich and the Mittelland this figure is almost twice as high at 40%.

ebookers-reiselust-schweiz

By contrast, the safety aspect seems to be particularly important to the people of central Switzerland: Just over a quarter of respondents in the cantons of central Switzerland said they would be willing to spend more money on vacations if it made them safer. In the Bern area, on the other hand, this figure is 13%. People either seem to be less concerned about this or they are simply not prepared to spend more money on security.

Increased interest in winter sports destinations expected

Claudia Parker, Head of Public Relations at Ebookers, is optimistic: "Travel is important to many and it is very gratifying to see that people in Switzerland continue to want to discover the beauty of Switzerland as a travel destination. Given the current situation, many of us prefer to spend our vacations closer to home. We therefore also expect increased interest in winter sports destinations from within Switzerland."

One third is currently planning winter vacations

For winter 20/21, the desire for vacations remains rather frosty in any case: Only one-third are planning to book a trip for the winter months at the present time. Those who are toying with the idea remain in familiar waters: in winter, skiing vacations in Switzerland lead the way in travel plans with 44%. For 45%, winter vacations are currently out of the question, if at all. Travel abroad continues to play a subordinate role in winter vacation plans.

Ebookers conducted an online survey of 1004 Swiss citizens between the ages of 14 and 65 between September 10 and 14, 2020.

Marketer emails are becoming increasingly formal

Since the outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic, the tone of emails from marketers to customers has become much more formal worldwide. In the USA alone, half of brands write to consumers with polite forms of address and use chosen expressions in messages. This is the conclusion of a study by Schwa Consulting.

mail-unsplash

"In customer communication, emails no longer have the same importance as they did a few years ago. If marketers have a closer relationship with consumers, they quickly switch to WhatsApp or Messenger. Emails are like digital letters. Senders have to be careful what they write - they must not be too friendly, especially with new customers. However, a certain balance is required here, the message must not come across as too robotic," explains marketing expert Felix Murbach in an interview with the news portal Press release.

Schwa analysts surveyed 190 marketing, communications and branding executives worldwide. 37% of global companies have become more formal in their emails. However, 40 percent still use frequently used phrases during the coronavirus crisis, such as "In these difficult times".

"All companies sound the same"

The majority of companies consider the tone of voice in customer communication to be important. Many have changed their manners during the pandemic. For example, a quarter of European companies have completely abandoned humor. Colloquial expressions are also controversial. According to 52 percent of respondents, such terms come across as natural, while 28 percent consider them unprofessional.

According to Meg Roberts, Creative Director at Schwa, companies are currently tending in one of two directions. Either they write in a way that is too correct or they patronize customers with emotionalized phrases. "The latter at least shows that they want to be more human. However, this makes all companies sound the same," Roberts points out. (pte)
