Apple implements measures for more privacy as planned

Apple will implement the new options for users to limit data collection by apps, despite opposition from major online players such as Facebook. This is according to a letter published Thursday by the iPhone maker to human rights organizations such as Amnesty International and Human Rights Watch.

apple-store

The innovations are intended to make it easier for users of Apple devices to prevent apps and advertising services from collecting information about their behavior across the boundaries of individual apps and websites. Apple's plan is to require each app to ask users for permission to access it. Facebook warned that the change would make the online network's advertising business more difficult. Company CEO Mark Zuckerberg most recently criticized that because many small and medium-sized businesses rely on advertising on the web, it could hurt the economy's recovery from the coronavirus pandemic.

Start in the new year

The release requests were actually already announced for the launch of the new mobile system iOS 14 in the fall. In September, however, Apple postponed their introduction until the beginning of next year. The reason given was to give developers more time to make the necessary changes. At the same time, this raised concerns among some observers that resistance from the industry could lead to a softening of the measures.

Access is important for Facebook because the online network promises its advertisers reliable access to the most specific customer groups possible. To do this, Facebook wants to learn as much as possible about people's interests and activities.

Apple had initially granted access to the unique device number for advertising purposes when the iPhone was launched. A few years ago, a special number for advertising was introduced instead, the IDFA. Access to it will now only be granted to app developers after they have obtained explicit permission from a user. Ogilvy Switzerland strengthens management

Ogilvy Switzerland is strengthening its leadership in the areas of creative and health and expanding its executive team. In November, Eric Markowski and Ben Staudenmann joined the agency in Oerlikon as the ECD team from Jung von Matt Limmat.

Eric Markowski hails from Germany and has been in the advertising business for ten years, eight of which he spent at Swiss agencies Serviceplan Group, Havas Worldwide, Equipe and most recently Jung von Matt Limmat. The cross-media oriented creative has also broadened his perspective on marketing and communication as Creative Director at Siroop and in the innovation department of the Link Institute. He has penned campaigns for UBS, BMW, Café Royal and Helsana.

Eric Markowski's new professional appointment brings him full circle: Ogilvy was the addressee of his very first job application over a decade ago. Now, as Executive Creative Director, he will be responsible for the agency's conceptual and textual direction.

At Markowski's side, the new ECD Ben Staudenmann will be responsible for the visual conception and implementation of future Ogilvy campaigns. He previously worked for five years at Wirz BBDO and four years at Jung von Matt Limmat, interrupted by a year's sabbatical during which he traveled the globe and the agency world as a freelancer. His work as an art director includes the latest appearance of Swissmilk, the amateur sports campaign of SportXX and several Mobiliar damage sketches.

The two creative directors will become part of the extended management team and succeed Executive Creative Director Stephanie Lang, who left Ogilvy in mid-October.

Martin Keller Head of the Health Department since August

The new member of the Executive Board, Martin Keller, Head of the Health Department, has been with Ogilvy since the beginning of August. After completing his studies and doctorate in biochemistry at ETH Zurich, Martin Keller held various management positions in the healthcare industry in the areas of strategy, marketing and operations - all with a digital focus. He has worked for the Boston Consulting Group, Novartis and Amgen, most recently as European Commercial Lead at Amgen. With Martin Keller, Ogilvy Health will expand its multichannel communications offering from its current prescriber and patient focus to other stakeholders in the healthcare sphere.

The new management team is completed by Strategy Director Matthias Müller, who moves up to the extended management team. The experienced planner and member of the Account Planning Group Switzerland has been providing sound strategic support for Ogilvy campaigns since 2019.

Updated media price-performance index should please advertising clients

With readership figures trending downward and gross prices unchanged, the Media Price/Performance Index of LSA and SWA is up slightly again this year for many print titles. In TV, as broadcasters continually adjust their prices and forecasts and reached more viewers this year, the index fell 1 percent for 15-59 year olds. For Out of Home "analog," the curve is pointing slightly down this year. Both should please advertisers, especially in these times.

Since 2017, the Swiss Advertisers Association SWA and Leading Swiss Agencies LSA have been collecting and publishing the index for media contacts. Once again, with falling readership figures and unchanged gross prices, the cost per thousand (CPT) has risen for a large proportion of publications. This trend can be observed in both the 14-99 and 15-74 age target groups. The new combination "Schweiz am Wochenende", which has a low CPM of CHF 24.2, had a positive effect on the index. Due to several discontinuations of print titles, the index was adjusted accordingly this year, which still ensures comparability. The print "shopping cart" currently includes 88 newspapers and magazines in seven categories.

In TV, the index is based on the stations' planned values and not on the results actually achieved. Compared to last year, 2020 planned contact rates are down about 1 percent among 15-59 year olds and up nearly 2 percent among 15-49 year olds. Changing media behavior due to Covid-19 also had a major impact on TV usage in the spring. An effective price/performance trend can therefore only be determined on an individual basis with appropriate performance reviews. In television, the index was also expanded this year to include all language-national stations. This means that a total of 38 TV stations are now included in the comparison. Previously, 17 SRG stations and private stations from Switzerland and abroad had a market share of at least 1 percent per region.

(Source: SPR+ MA Strategy / Wemf)

The index for Out of Home (OOH) is down by a good 2 percent this year in the sample of around 1300 different poster sites. One reason for this is the "scrollers" included in the index, which are newly evaluated from the SPR+ research system according to actual dwell time. Since these achieve a higher output, slightly fewer posts are required for the sample posting. This pushes the index down accordingly. The price/performance trend for digital out-of-home advertising (DOOH) is not yet included in this index.

The index is currently suspended for the media categories of radio and cinema. With the regular publication of the Media Price/Performance Index, the two associations make an important contribution to transparency in the media offering.

Influencer affines are strikingly creative

Teens who are inspired by influencers when making purchases tend to be more sociable, athletic, and creative than their peers. They use online and social media platforms more often than average, but can also be reached through traditional media. These are the findings of the latest edition of the MA Strategy media study.

jung-kreativ-unsplash

6.2 percent of the Swiss population say they are inspired by well-known personalities on social networks when buying products. The majority of them are young. Around 21 percent of 14- to 24-year-olds, for example, take their cues from said sources. These young people are typically very sociable and active. Compared to the rest of their age group, they meet up with friends more often than average, go out significantly more often, eat out more regularly and do sports more often.

In addition, young people with an affinity for influencers are conspicuously creative. They take photos and make films more often than other young people of the same age, are more active in creating images and play a musical instrument more often. They also have an extraordinary awareness of fashion. This enables them to act as opinion leaders themselves and in turn motivate other young people to buy products. Compared to their peers, they advise other people on the subject of fashion and cosmetics more often than average.

Affinity for influencers and regional private stations

Young people who draw inspiration for purchasing decisions from well-known personalities on social networks use these platforms more often than average - also compared to their peers. They generally surf the Internet a lot, typically like listening to podcasts and watching TV online, but also consume traditional media. Within their age group, they are characterized by more frequent use of private and regional radio and TV stations. They read newspapers and magazines.

As an instrument for strategic planning, the MA Strategy intermedia study aims to enable a targeted analysis and implementation of the optimal media mix of press, cinema, radio, television, address directories, out-of-home, direct mail, web offerings and means of transport. The cross-media study shows with which media strategy a target group can be reached most efficiently. The target groups can be defined both socio-demographically and according to consumption characteristics.

Due to adjustments in Wemf's MACH research system, a larger base of interviews and thus more cases will be available from the 2020 publication onwards, which will have a positive impact on the analysis options. In addition, the planning process for the media agencies will be simplified.

This year's edition of the MA Strategy was published on Thursday. The data were collected in their entirety before the Corona pandemic and the extraordinary situation, respectively, and are therefore not affected by any possible influences.

Dept strengthens with US agency Basic

Just a few months after the acquisition of Hinderling Volkart, Dept is once again expanding its creative expertise and pushing further into the US market. The San Diego-based digital design agency Basic joins the agency with immediate effect.

Making common cause: Dimi Albers, CEO of Dept (left) and Matt Faulk, CEO of Basic.

Together with Danish agency Sorthvid and Zurich-based agency Hinderling Volkart, Basic is the third addition to the Amsterdam-headquartered agency. With this move, Dept aims to continue its growth strategy and bring together creativity, technology and data experts in integrated teams with a purely digital DNA, the agency writes in a statement.

Basic works for clients such as Google, Patagonia, Airbnb and Kentucky Fried Chicken KFC. The 120-strong team works in San Francisco, San Diego and St. Louis. For Matt Faulk, CEO of Basic, the move is logical: "In a digitally driven world, and in light of the covid pandemic, people are increasingly reliant on digital platforms. More than ever, these have the potential to change one's perception and drive discussions on cultural issues. Joining Dept significantly strengthens our positioning by bringing data and technology into the mix."

Wunderman Thompson does the convincing for PostFinance

Since 2019, PostFinance has been promoting its digital service offering with the campaign "Who knows me, loves me". Wunderman Thompson has developed this idea further and is now deepening knowledge of the ease of use of digital banking among the Swiss population.

PostFinance 2019 used bold and direct communication to promote its digital service offering last year (Werbewoche.ch reported). The focus was on taking away people's reservations about digital banking and bringing it closer to them. In the meantime, Covid-19 has ensured that many more people use the digital offering for their finances as well.

Following on from the previous campaign, Wunderman Thompson has now focused on further deepening knowledge about digital banking and has developed various communication measures for this purpose.

On the image level, the quick accessibility and easy handling of the digital service offering should continue to be conveyed. Underlined by fresh, light and uncomplicated language and visuals.

Social Media: Showing Benefits with Irritation

In order to effectively reach the target group where a large part of their lives takes place, Wunderman Thompson also developed videos specifically geared to social media. These were implemented in co-creation with the PostFinance social media team and Webrepublic. The core of the videos is an effect that imitates the swiping layout between Instagram Stories and Carousel Ads on Facebook. Thus, the videos look as if the cell phone would suddenly swipe on automatically or the computer would start working on its own.

This effect is meant to positively irritate users and encourage them to watch, and creates opportunities for social media-optimized, simple storytelling, which was used for six different videos in two phases.

Increased readiness for digital solutions

The momentum generated by Corona for increased interest in digital banking also offers PostFinance the opportunity to promote specific product offerings that are accessible online and to provide in-depth explanatory content for them on the website. This should show consumers step by step how easy it is to order account documents, pay bills and make online purchases, or even just check their own account balance.

The measures created by Wunderman Thompson were designed to be channel-appropriate and will be used throughout Switzerland as TV commercials, OOH, DOOH, display ads, and online and social media video ads.

In anticipation of the all-important end-of-year business, Samsung is launching a social media campaign to make two 2020 new releases the talk of Gen Z: The Galaxy Z Flip 5G and the Galaxy S20 FE 5G. To familiarize the young target group with the smartphones, Sir Mary "Supercedi" brings Cedric Schild on board.

In the spots, Cedi demonstrates various tricks with the two smartphones, which are of course not meant seriously. For example, he gives a short tutorial on how to turn his old phone into a foldable Galaxy Z Flip 5G with a quick tug and the help of a screw clamp. Or how the wide color palette of the Galaxy S20 FE 5G devices confuses a chameleon. The three 15-second story ads are used exclusively on TikTok and Instagram and were produced in September.

Supercedi back with Izzy

After a time-out, the comedy talent reported back in mid-October and is taking off with the new edition @izzyprojects. The first results of the campaign show that "Supercedi" is back for good. As Sir Mary writes in a statement, the videos are said to have generated over 1.6 million views and over 1.5 million social media engagements after just a few weeks. On Cedi's TikTok channel alone, one video garnered over 65,000 likes.

Clear Channel and Rituals launch sweepstakes through targeted DOOH use

Out-of-home advertising company Clear Channel is using the screens on Bahnhofstrasse in Zurich for a special promotion with Rituals to mark Night Shopping.

To avoid the huge crowds of people that have gathered in previous years, Zurich's "Lucy" Christmas lights will be lit up in the afternoon on Thursday. The Rituals raffle will run right on time for the start of "Lucy" and until the end of the Night Shopping at 9 pm.

According to a press release from Clear Channel, the campaign is running on twelve screens in the heart of Zurich and is an example of how digital out-of-home campaigns can be targeted in terms of time and geography and how they can offer direct interaction and sales opportunities in conjunction with smartphones. Digital sales promotion is currently possible at Clear Channel on 469 screens throughout Switzerland. (pd)

With the addition of Giuseppe Audino - also known musically as Ayo Hope - Stuiq is expanding its expertise in the conception and implementation of branded content. The demand for audiovisual social media content that conveys strong stories will continue to shape future communications, the agency writes in a statement.

"Social media is now an integral part of every company's communications strategy. And that's where we come in. With Giuseppe Audino on the team, we have even more power for social-first content and storytelling. Also, things are definitely getting more musical with him as Ayo Hope now. That can be an advantage not only for our customers, but for the entire agency and also for me as a miserable singer," says a delighted Stuiq CEO Sandro Walder.

As a trained communications specialist with a bachelor's degree in business communications, Giuseppe Audino also has many years of experience as a presenter, editor and copywriter. His last station was at Radio Energy, where he developed text and content for social media and events. Under the pseudonym "Ayo Hope," he recorded several viral hits, including his dialect cover of the song "Despacito." Audino was also successful on TV this year on "The Voice of Switzerland" and won the battles.
