Basel Foundation participates in Watson launch in French-speaking Switzerland

The Basel-based "Foundation for Media Diversity" is contributing financially to the launch of Watson in French-speaking Switzerland. It has granted the news portal a loan of CHF 2.5 million so that it can launch in French-speaking Switzerland in March.

watson-sfm

This amount covered half of the funds required for the start-up phase. The other half will be covered by AZ Medien, the owner of Watson, according to a press release issued by AZ Medien on Friday.

For Andreas Miescher, President of the "Foundation for Media Diversity", the arrival of Watson in French-speaking Switzerland "will help to decisively strengthen media diversity and plurality of opinion and thus strengthen the democratic debate in this part of the country". He is quoted with these words in the press release.

AZ Medien, for its part, welcomed the agreement. The publisher also noted that it remains open to working with investors from French-speaking Switzerland "to anchor Watson even more firmly in the region".

Under the leadership of Editor-in-Chief Sandra Jean, around 20 journalists will be working from Lausanne from March. The news portal will be linked to the sites of the Tamedia Group (20 minutes and Le Matin), but also compete with the Blick.ch portal.

Just over a week ago, the Blick Group announced its intention to launch the French-speaking Swiss equivalent of the Blick.ch news portal next year. An editorial team of around 20 journalists is to be set up in Lausanne for this purpose. (SDA)

Do not miss the connection with the concrete art

Ruf Lanz artfully connects two Zurich institutions: the Museum Haus Konstruktiv and the VBZ.

The Haus Konstruktiv in Zurich is the only museum in Switzerland that cultivates Constructivist-Concrete art. Its representatives include Max Bill, Camille Graeser, Richard Paul Lohse and Verena Loewensberg. It is one of the most important Swiss contributions to art history.

For five years, Ruf Lanz has been getting the Haus Konstruktiv talked about beyond the inaugurated art circles: with trenchant campaigns that have won numerous national and international awards, including a Film Lion in Cannes. Now follows another concise appearance. Because many people have not been to the museum for a while due to corona, the message is: don't miss the connection to concrete art.

The campaign is strikingly staged using the streetcar lines that lead to Haus Konstruktiv. This is because the museum is centrally located between Paradeplatz and Stauffacher in the former Selnau substation and is easily accessible by public transport. With the streetcar line images, which are inspired by constructive-concrete artworks, Ruf Lanz connects the two Zurich institutions Haus Konstruktiv and VBZ in a surprising way.

Five motifs appear in selected print titles, on streetcar posters, on postcards, and in social media. On the one hand, they are independent of time, on the other hand, they make concrete reference to the respective current exhibition. Currently, Haus Konstruktiv is presenting a solo exhibition of the Argentinian-British artist Amalia Pica, winner of the Zurich Art Prize 2020, and the first Swiss retrospective of the Belgian painter Léon Wuidar.

SRF launches support projects for cultural professionals

In the current COVID-19 situation, artists are no longer able to perform, or can do so only to a limited extent. With cultural activities restricted, audiences are also unable to fully enjoy live experiences. SRF is stepping in to help and is supporting cultural life in Switzerland with a series of additional projects.

465850

SRF Kultur creates additional broadcasting space and special projects for artists, authors, musicians and various audience groups on different channels.

Susanne Wille, Head of the SRF Culture Department: "We want to support creative artists with additional performance opportunities and creative projects and thus offer our audience even more culture at a time when cultural life can only take place to a limited extent. We want to set an example: Culture is not a 'nice to have', but important for cohesion in society, for a strong sense of togetherness."

The SRF Kultur support package includes the following projects:

Open Mic

Radio SRF 2 Kultur opens the microphone to artists: New forms are being tried out with an open mic concept. The station invites artists to make their own programs, create a radio show and thus engage in a dialogue with the audience.

Literature Window Switzerland

Because the reading tours have been largely discontinued this year, Radio SRF 2 Kultur is offering writers an additional program window for readings and discussions as part of a two-week literature window. The authors themselves can read from their works.

"Kulturplatz" is looking for ideas for a TV appearance

SRF offers artists of all stripes a platform in its programming. SRF would like to offer a stage to artists who are currently no longer able to perform. They can submit ideas for a television program. It is hoped that the "Kulturplatz" editorial team will be challenged by the ideas. It is a challenge for the editorial team to implement the ideas of the creative artists, however unusual they may be. The best ideas will be pre-selected by a jury and a public vote and then implemented together with the editorial team. Further information can be found here.

Instagram advent calendar

Swiss cultural practitioners and cultural venues will be given a daily stage on the SRF Kultur Instagram account during Advent. In an Instagram takeover, they can take over the Instagram account @srfkultur for one day each and provide insights into their work or offerings.

Documentary and reportage

SRF DOK explores the effects of the pandemic on other cultural areas. A long-term study is dedicated to the consequences of corona on the music scene. In addition, a report focuses on the consequences of corona on the club scene and the culture at home.

Short stories about the long pandemic

An ideas competition has already been launched with the podcast call "Short stories of a long pandemic" due to the longer production lead time. Authors can submit stories for a radio play, which will be produced and broadcast in the programs. Further information can be found here.

More detailed information on the projects that have not yet been launched will be provided in due course. Further support ideas are also being developed.

Tamedia and Ringier consider legal action against senders of political advertising

Tamedia and Ringier are considering legal action against the committee behind the Corporate Responsibility Initiative. The reason: Interviews from their newspapers and magazines were used on flyers in a manner that was unlawful and misleading, and in the respective layouts and with the logos of the publications.

IMG_7947-t

On Monday (November 9), the initiative committee for the corporate responsibility initiative reported two interviews with former Council of States member Dick Marty, which were published on October 23 in the magazine Swiss Illustrated (Ringier Axel Springer Switzerland) and on October 25 in the newspaper Le Matin Dimanche (Tamedia) have been improperly used for their own purposes, according to a joint announcement by Tamedia and Ringier on Wednesday evening.

This would falsely create the impression that the flyers originated from the Swiss Illustrated and from Le Matin Dimanche.

"Ringier and Tamedia condemn the abusive and misleading use of their content and brands for political purposes," the two media companies further wrote.

Both companies are "committed to independent and balanced quality journalism," he said. It is of paramount importance that their media titles reflect diversity of opinion and make an important contribution to shaping democratic opinion.

The lawyers of the two companies are still examining which steps to take, Nicole Bänninger, Tamedia communications manager, told the Keystone-SDA news agency on Wednesday evening. (SDA)

In their new roles, both are members of Ringier's extended Executive Board. Both People Management and Corporate Communications are areas of the Ringier Corporate Center. Both report to Ringier CEO Marc Walder.

Susanne Jud, who has held various HR management positions at Ringier since 2018, has been appointed Chief People Officer. At the same time, the HR division, which Susanne Jud has headed ad interim since August 2020, will be renamed People Management. Prior to joining Ringier, Susanne Jud held various HR positions at tpc/SRF and Orell Füssli for several years. A qualified HR manager, Susanne Jud holds a master's degree in human resource management and a CAS degree in strategic management and organizational development and consulting.

Marc Walder, CEO of Ringier, said in a press release: "Personnel work or Human Resources will become People Management. This symbolizes a change in the way we think about management: It is increasingly about participation, further development and inclusion. These are central tasks that a Chief People Officer (CPO) manages within a company. Ringier - in the midst of its transformation - wants to be a role model in people management."

Johanna Walser has been Ringier's Chief Communications Officer since October 1. The House participates in a new agency group

The House is joining the agency group currently being established internationally under the leadership of Ufenau Capital Partners, which is headquartered in Switzerland.

TH_Header_1896x1066
The new logo is part of the corporate design that the agency treated itself to for its 10th anniversary.

Ufenau acquires 100 percent of the shares of The House - in return, the previous agency owners Stephan Suter, Andreas Jorgella and Grischa Rubinick participate in the new group. Together with Frank Lang, the three will continue to form the operational management of The House.

The agency The House will help shape the expansion of the agency group in the Swiss market due to its expertise in the organic networking of strategy, creation, content & media and its distinctive digital competence, according to a release

In Germany, the group build-up has already been underway with Integr8 since the end of 2019. The fast-growing digital agency from Berlin was founded in 2014 and employs around 50 people who combine strategy, creation, marketing and technology under one roof.

Here's what previous agency owners have to say:

"With Ufenau and their approach to building a new agency group, we have not only found a financially strong partner, but also an experienced leadership team that actively supports our agency vision for successful networked communications solutions," said Andreas Jorgella, Director Business Development.

"Efficiency and effectiveness in Media is increasingly driven by technology and automated processes and workflows. Due to Integr8's DNA as a data-driven marketing specialist, we have also found excellent breeding ground for a technology hub with regard to AMO (our self-developed cross-channel planning & reporting application)," says Stephan Suter, Director Media.

"The fragmentation of target groups and media also presents us with challenges in terms of the successful implementation of big ideas and concepts, which we are able to meet flexibly, pragmatically and in a targeted manner as a medium-sized agency in the group network with interdisciplinary competencies from all areas," says Grischa Rubinick, Executive Creative Director.

...and the new owners:

"The House has an impressive track record and, with its broad-based service offering and proven technical and management expertise, fits perfectly into our build-up strategy in the Swiss market," says Ralf Flore, Managing Partner at Ufenau.

The House was founded at the end of 2010 and positions itself as a modern Swiss communications agency. Its expertise lies in the organic networking of strategy, creation, content & media.

Unclouded anticipation for Black Friday and Christmas shopping in Switzerland

Despite COVID-19 restrictions, the desire to buy gifts—for oneself and others—remains as strong as ever. What has changed are the place and time of purchase, as shown by the Black Friday study conducted by the Swiss flyer app Profital.

black-friday-1805804_1280

Consumers are continuing to buy from bricks-and-mortar stores, but are focusing more on online shopping than before. They are also being inspired by promotions when it comes to Christmas gifts. Good prospects for retailers with carefully selected offers at the right time.

Black Friday trend for boys

Black Friday 2020 is eagerly awaited by many consumers despite - or perhaps because of - the extraordinary situation. This was revealed by a representative nationwide survey of around 3,500 users of Profital, the app for digital brochures and promotions. Half of those surveyed definitely expect to benefit from special offers on November 27. A further 30 percent may be inspired spontaneously. The younger the respondents, the greater their interest in Black Friday. Offers in the fashion and electronics sectors are very popular, with over 50 percent of respondents wanting to take advantage of them. Furnishing and cosmetics bargains are also in demand.

Black Week will distribute visitor flows

Fears that coronavirus could have a negative impact on consumer sentiment are unfounded. The impact of the pandemic can be seen elsewhere: one in five people feel uncomfortable in stores - compared to one in ten in October. A development that Profital Managing Director Raphael Thommen had expected. However, the retail expert knows: "To ensure that the streams of visitors pass each other by as easily as possible, many of the offers will not only be available on Black Friday, but throughout Black Week from November 23." A big rush is expected this year not only in the stores, but also online: 43% of respondents say they will shop more online because of coronavirus.

The Swiss buy Christmas presents early

This year's Christmas business also looks promising: On average, six gifts will be given. On average, women give 1.2 more gifts than men, but they spend more per gift. Another finding: Christmas presents are not bought at the last minute. 47 percent start in November or even earlier, while only 7 percent buy presents in the last few days before Christmas. The results of the study show that price also plays an important role when buying gifts: 32% of respondents wait until the desired product is on sale. 34 percent are inspired by offers for a gift. Only 18 percent buy gifts regardless of promotions.
Information about Black Friday

About the study

The Profital study examines consumer behaviour on Black Friday and in the run-up to Christmas as well as the impact of COVID-19. 3,471 users of the Profital app were surveyed throughout Switzerland for the study, including 2,369 in German-speaking Switzerland, 735 in French-speaking Switzerland and 367 in Ticino. The representative consumer survey took place between November 2 and 5, 2020.

In the app of the same name and on the Profital.ch website, users can find brochures, promotions and store information from over 100 retailers and brand manufacturers.

Jumbo controls with Dept product feed according to weather and geodata

What's the weather like today? Depending on whether the sun is shining or it's raining, do-it-yourselfers and hobbyists plan their purchases differently. That's why Jumbo has defined different weather conditions and put together merchandise groups and products to match.

Screenshot-2020-11-10-at-13.46.12-1200x675-c

Visitors to the online store find offers that match their local weather situation. The banner ads they see on other websites are also adapted to their local weather conditions. Dept implemented this solution for their long-term client with a data-driven and user-centric approach.

"Weather is an important trigger for our customers. A good example is the purchase of a pool, which is strongly influenced by summer temperatures. Or: after three hot and humid nights, the need for air conditioning units also increases noticeably. We want to use this insight to increase the relevance of the respective regional flights," says Beat Kronenberg, Head of Customers at Jumbo.

In this way, the banner advertising for the online offer is targeted to the respective user based on data. Based on the geodata and the specific weather conditions on site, the customer receives the offers that are suitable for him.

The Dept team built the campaign across 350 different cities and towns, and Jumbo also extended it to DOOH (digital out of home). Thanks to proximity targeting, dynamic text and animated weather icons, it can be used in three languages for the whole of Switzerland. Based on longitude and latitude, current weather data is retrieved and tabulated with past and forecast weather information such as temperature and precipitation.

Based on this set of rules, each advertising booking is marked with the corresponding weather scenario. Depending on the geographical and meteorological starting point, the various creative elements are then activated automatically. Beat Kronenberg is satisfied: "In concrete terms, this allows us to increase media pressure when the highest return is possible."

Das Zelt TV show with virtual audience wins top BCMA award

Honoring heroes and helpers during the COVID-19 crisis: That was the goal of «Wir sagen Danke» — a TV show in which artists and hosts interacted with a virtual audience. The show was recorded last June and aired on TV24. The BCMA (Branded Content Marketing Association) took notice of this innovative project and has now honored it with the «Best in Class» award.

WSD Keyvisual

During the lockdown in spring 2020, when life came to a virtual standstill and Das Zelt had to shut down completely, the idea was developed to record a show in front of a virtual audience. Together with Aperçus, a German communications agency, and Cisco Webex, which provided the necessary video conferencing software for the audience video wall, the project was implemented with the media company CH Media, which was responsible for the TV broadcast. With an audience of 119,000 viewers, the expectations of the creators were far exceeded.

This creative brand integration of the Cisco video wall caught the eye of the BCMA (Branded Content Marketing Association). The BCMA is a global association of agencies, marketers and companies headquartered in London and represented in various countries. BCMA has organized globally under the title Global Lockdown Content Showcase looked for campaigns that stood out for their creativity, ingenuity and sustainability in these challenging times. Only campaigns that have created added value for the audience by either entertaining, informing, educating or inspiring were recognized. Ideally, several criteria are met at the same time.

In the D-A-CH region, BCMA members voted online for "We say thank you" alongside "VW Heldenkader" with Jogi Löw and Puls4 "Road to digital Austria" with the attribute Best in Class excellent.

Adrian Steiner, CEO and Director of DAS ZELT, is delighted with the award: "Together with our partners and my team, we are extremely pleased about the international broadcast of "Wir sagen Danke". It honors us that we were able to set the tone in these difficult times and encourages us to develop further TV formats."
