Following the departure of Roland Bischofberger (pictured above), the Communications department is being restructured. In addition to his role as Chief Strategy Officer and member of the Executive Board, Mick Fernhout will also head up the Corporate Affairs department in future. The 51-year-old has been working for UPC since January 2018 and previously held various management positions within Liberty Global, including responsibility for UPC's communications in the Netherlands.

Bernard Strapp will be responsible for external communications as Head of Public Relations with immediate effect. Strapp has been working in external communications at UPC for four years and was most recently responsible for the media office. The 34-year-old is now responsible for active and reactive corporate communications across all existing channels and for ensuring UPC's integrated communications. In this context, he strengthens the media spokesperson team with Stephanie Niggli. Having worked at McKinsey & Company and Burson-Marsteller (now Burson Cohn & Wolfe), where she was responsible for mandates including Huawei, Oracle and Accenture, the 30-year-old has extensive expertise in the areas of IT, telecommunications and technology. Niggli has been working in communications at UPC since October 2018.

This means that Bernard Strapp, Massimo Gonnella for French-speaking Switzerland and Stephanie Niggli will represent the company to the public in future. 30-year-old Alexandra Bini will take over as Head of Internal Communications & Integration and relinquish her role as media spokesperson.

Roland Bischofberger has been responsible for the communications department at UPC (then Cablecom) since 2010. He is leaving the company to take on a new role as Head of Communications in an international group. Severina Pascu, CEO of UPC, has nothing but praise for the 39-year-old in a press release: "As Head of Communications and a member of the Executive Board, Roland made a significant contribution to changing the company's image. I would like to thank him for his valuable contribution and wish him all the best for his future career. At the same time, I am convinced that we are optimally equipped for the future with the new setup and congratulate Mick, Bernard and Alexandra on their new roles."

Filmgerberei launches film for construction directorate of the canton of Zurich

Working for the Department of Public Works of the Canton of Zurich means holding a stuffy bureaucratic position, doesn’t it? The cantonal administration wants to dispel this stereotype and has therefore commissioned Filmgerberei to produce an HR film that illustrates the diverse range of responsibilities of all employees at the Department of Public Works.

The film shows the breadth of the construction directorate's field of activity and thus makes it clear to the viewer that actually almost everyone comes into contact with the cantonal administration. Balz Chen, copywriter at Filmgerberei, explains: "At the Construction Directorate, you are part of a huge organization - and yet you see how what you do manifests itself in daily life throughout the canton. We were very impressed by this meaningfulness and the variety of tasks, which is why we wanted to convey both in the film."

Thus, the variety of tasks was packed into a flowing story in everyday life, summarizing four overarching fields of activity: planning, building, managing and maintaining. To achieve this, various stylistic means were combined; real film meets animation and animated typography, statements in image and sound are underlined in a targeted manner. The playful rhythm as well as the varied transitions are meant to make the viewer feel the abundance of professions and fields of application - and that the construction department is anything but dusty.

New study says streaming will replace traditional TV

In late March, the U.S. company Apple unveiled its new streaming service: Apple TV+. It is intended to compete with Netflix, Amazon, and others—but should traditional TV networks be concerned as well? A new international study by the global strategy and marketing consulting firm Simon-Kucher & Partners has now examined this question.

laptop-TV

"Traditional television is not relevant for me": In a recent Simon-Kucher survey, well over 60% of streaming-savvy respondents in the majority of participating countries agreed with this statement. Australia, France and Germany brought up the rear with 46, 57 and 58 percent respectively; in the latter, however, the use of freely available content from traditional TV channels (e.g. via media libraries) is comparatively high at over 70 percent. "More and more people are turning away from linear television," says Lisa Jäger, media expert and partner at Simon-Kucher. "But what are they doing instead? As the answer to this has a major impact on the advertising market, we took a close look at this in our study."

More streaming thanks to high quality and no advertising

More and more people are using video streaming instead of traditional television: more than 1.02 billion worldwide last year, according to Statista. This figure is expected to rise to 1.24 billion by 2023. This is also reflected in the survey - on average across countries, almost 75% of streaming-savvy respondents agreed with the statement that streaming is replacing traditional television in their country. Singapore (95%), Mexico (88%) and the USA (84%) are particularly consistent in this regard. "Streaming services are particularly popular in countries with little or no attractive public TV offerings," says Jäger. "As users across all countries reject advertisements, they prefer to use video streaming instead of private, ad-financed TV channels."

According to the study, the quality of the content offered was more important than the price when choosing a streaming service in all participating countries. All countries except one also stated that they would be happy to pay a higher monthly price for their streaming subscription if there were no commercial breaks. The approval rates for free streaming with commercials were below 15 percent in all countries.

Quality decides

But what can we expect from the entry of another strong competitor like Apple into the market? Users are quite positive about the new offering: When asked whether they could imagine subscribing to Apple TV+, between 25 and 45 percent answered "yes" and 40 to 57 percent "maybe" in eight out of nine countries. Only Mexico falls out of the picture here, with a clear 69% saying yes and 23% saying maybe. There was also general agreement that a monthly price of around ten euros for the service was considered fair by many users; only in the Latin American countries was the willingness to pay slightly lower.

For competitors such as Netflix or Amazon, this is not such threatening news: In seven out of nine countries, most participants stated that they would use Apple TV+ in addition to their existing subscriptions. In Latin American countries in particular, between 46 and even 63 percent of respondents said they would subscribe to the Apple offering in addition to their existing services. In three quarters of the countries, less than ten percent would cancel all existing subscriptions because of the Apple offer.

"This is good news for the industry, although the competitive pressure between different streaming providers in Europe and the USA, for example, is much stronger. Companies have to continually impress with high-quality content in order to attract and retain customers," says Jäger. "It will also be exciting when another player enters the market this fall with Disney's streaming service Disney+. Although the Disney+ offering is likely to be aimed at a different audience than the typical Netflix customer in terms of content, it cannot be ruled out that there will be cut-throat competition."

About the study

The study "Relevance and future use of Apple TV+" was conducted by Simon-Kucher & Partners in March and April 2019 in nine countries (Australia, Brazil, Chile, France, Germany, Mexico, Singapore, UK, USA). A total of 490 people with an affinity for streaming were asked about their current and future viewing behavior. All participants stated that they either already had a streaming subscription or could imagine taking out one in the future. The study is available on request.

"Car For You": Tamedia and AXA launch joint car platform

The search for the right vehicle is often difficult and time-consuming, and the range of vehicles on offer is often so large that prospective buyers without the appropriate know-how quickly reach their limits. This is where "Car For You" comes in. The new car platform focuses on users without a great deal of vehicle knowledge: With a transparent price check using a self-learning algorithm, "Car For You" shows how fair the price of a vehicle is in comparison with similar offers, thereby creating certainty for the user that the desired vehicle is really within a reasonable price range.

"Car For You" also offers innovative features such as 360° exterior and interior views: "This gives prospective buyers a completely new search experience - as if they were viewing the vehicle on site," explains CEO Ivo Streiff. A free money-back guarantee for selected vehicles rounds off the experience.

"Car For You" was launched as a basic version at the end of January and has been further developed in agile start-up mode in recent weeks, with new functions and services added. The aim is to convince not only potential buyers but also garage owners of "Car For You" and to establish itself as a leading platform in the market in the medium term. "We want to present our users with transparent and fair offers from credible providers and thus position ourselves as a trustworthy partner," says Ivo Streiff. On "Car For You", vehicle dealers also benefit from conditions that are unique in the market.

The launch is accompanied by a national campaign implemented by Freundliche Grüsse with the claim: "Find the car that fits your life". - to be seen shortly on Werbewoche.ch.

Wappler announces details of the rebuild at SRF

The new head of Swiss Radio and Television (SRF), Nathalie Wappler, has provided some insights into the organization’s restructuring in several interviews. A new program will debut on Saturday evenings this fall, the SRF chief told *Blick* on Saturday, for example.

20181105_13_22_18_663829-1

The new program will be called "Es geschah am ..." and will focus on an event from recent Swiss history in documentary and fictional form. "It will start with the case of the Spiez ghost train in 2006," Wappler told the View. There will also be shows. For example, "May I have this dance?" will be broadcast again in 2020. And the "Tagesschau" will continue to be broadcast at half past seven - but will have a new studio and a slightly different appearance.

Mobile in the regions

In addition, Wappler is working on the implementation of major projects, such as the establishment of the culture editorial department in Basel and the construction of the newsroom and Radiohall in Zurich. "On the one hand, we will be able to strengthen regional reporting in connection with a partial move of radio information from Bern to Zurich - with more correspondents in our regional newsrooms," the SRF boss told CH-Media's newspapers on Saturday in this regard. On the other hand, the reorganization will create new working environments that will favor mobile work on the road, i.e. directly from the regions, Wappler also explained.

On top of that, SRF is to develop its own platforms on the Internet in order to keep up with American streaming giants. He said that one could not influence the algorithms of Youtube, Facebook and Instagram. "We therefore also need our own platforms and are in the process of developing a new SRG player that will bundle the offerings from all language regions," Wappler told CH-Media newspapers. (SDA)

City of Zurich lets SRG reside for free - and still came away empty-handed

According to the SonntagsBlick, the City of Zurich is allowing SRG to operate free of charge in Leutschenbach. The newspaper reports that it has a document from 1962 in which a building lease agreement was concluded for a term of 75 years.

srg-ssr

The city of Zurich waived a building lease interest for the land in Leutschenbach, the statement continued. SRG was thus using the site free of charge - and this circumstance had also been an issue before SRG sold a plot of land on Hagenholzstrasse to the insurance group Swiss Life.

The city of Zurich had also been interested in the property and had hoped - in vain - to win the bid. (Werbewoche.ch reported). From the SRG it said in this regard to the SonntagsBlickthat real estate sales would follow a clearly structured process. (SDA)
