20 Minuten buries the storytelling format Venty

The storytelling format Venty, which 20 Minuten launched in March 2019 to appeal to the young target group with stories specially prepared for social media, will not be continued. The end of the format will cost four employees their jobs.

20 Minuten

Marcel Kohler, Managing Director 20 minutes, in a statement on Tuesday: "Venty has a dedicated small fan base. Unfortunately, however, we have not succeeded in establishing Venty beyond that among the young target group. Therefore, we have decided not to continue the Venty brand, but to fully commit to the social media channels of 20 minutes to develop further. In the future, we want to increasingly address the young target group on all our platforms with measures that go beyond social media and strengthen our umbrella brand 20 Minuten."

Two Venty employees can join the social media team of 20 minutes and support the team there with their expertise in video production. One person will work in corporate publishing in the future. No internal solution could be found for four employees. They will be supported with a voluntary redundancy plan. (hae/pd)

WEF meeting has great advertising value for the municipality of Davos

The municipality of Davos does not want to miss out on the World Economic Forum (WEF) annual meeting, despite the significant burden placed on the Alpine town by thousands of participants and security personnel. A study has shown that the promotional value of the four-day event ranges from 80 million to 85 million Swiss francs, says Mayor Tarzisius Caviezel.

"The WEF Annual Meeting is one of the most important economic and socio-political events in the world." Images from the meeting are broadcast around the world. In addition, Davos is becoming known as a platform for dialog, "where conflicting parties can sit down at the same table", says Caviezel.

Around 3,000 participants from politics, business and society are taking part in this year's WEF, which officially opens on Tuesday and runs until Friday. Among others, US President Donald Trump, German Chancellor Angela Merkel and EU Commission President Ursula von der Leyen are expected to attend. (SDA)

Advertising associations IAB Switzerland and SWA publish white paper on ad fraud

As part of a joint transparency initiative by the two advertising associations, IAB Switzerland Association and the Swiss Association of Advertising Buyers (SWA), a white paper has been published that examines the issue of unwanted advertising exposure. The paper provides clarification on the metrics commonly used in the market, definitions for standardizing reporting, and thus a basis for certifying the systems.

adfraud

One of the challenges of the digital advertising market is "ad fraud" or "invalid traffic," i.e., the identification of advertising contacts that do not meet the requirements of the booking or cooperation and which advertisers therefore potentially do not want to and should not pay for. These unwanted advertising contacts can be divided into fraudulent ones, which arise from a criminal energy, and those that do not meet the booking requirements and/or participation conditions without fraudulent intent, for example due to faulty ad server or targeting tool settings. In recent years, the online marketing industry has therefore developed methods and tools to identify these advertising contacts and to map them in reports for the advertising customers.

However, there is no clear definition of the term "ad fraud. As a result, the values collected and published by the various providers of ad verification systems on the market on the subject of ad fraud vary considerably in some cases. In day-to-day business, this often leads to discrepancies between the booking and managing agencies, the customers and the marketers of the advertising spaces. In addition, it causes confusion and uncertainty when providers go public with very different figures for the overall market.

The advertising associations IAB Switzerland and SWA have therefore adapted a white paper on "Invalid Traffic" prepared by the German association BVDW to the Swiss market and have set themselves the goal of creating a basis for standardized reporting and for certification of the systems offered on the market for the detection of "Invalid Traffic". In addition to an explanation of the metrics commonly used on the market, the paper provides definitions that can be used to standardize reporting and thus form the basis for certification of the systems.

The managing directors of the two associations, Roger Baur (IAB) and Roland Ehrler (SWA), are delighted that they have been able to jointly launch a second important initiative in the interests of market transparency in such a short time, and that the white paper has now brought clarity to the much-discussed topic of ad fraud.

The whitepaper is available for free download at Iab-switzerland.ch, or under Swa-asa.ch available (Direct link PDF).

Social media in French-speaking Switzerland as important as print in shaping public opinion

Television dominates public opinion in Switzerland. According to the Swiss Media Monitor, social media platforms such as Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter play a role in shaping public opinion in French-speaking Switzerland similar to that of print media and are more important than online platforms.

60000-1

On Tuesday, the new Media Monitor Switzerland was published by the Federal Office of Communications Bakom. The 2018 study shows for the first time what potential YouTube and Co. have for shaping opinion in Switzerland.

In French-speaking Switzerland, social media accounted for a full 16 percent of regional opinion power, only slightly behind print (18 percent). Nationwide and in the German-speaking part of Switzerland, social media accounted for around 10 percent of total opinion power, and slightly more in Ticino.

In general, however, these figures should be interpreted with caution, writes Bakom, as no official reach data is available for social media. The overall influence of social media thus continues to lag well behind the traditional media offerings of TV (28%), radio (24%), print (20%) and online (18%).

The assessment, which is based among other things on a representative survey of the population, relates to general information usage. In addition to politics, it also includes business, society, culture and sports. However, the Media Monitor does not provide any information on selective use during political events such as votes and elections.

TV is the most important medium

In general, television continues to dominate opinion-forming in Switzerland. The dominance of television is particularly pronounced in Latin Switzerland. In French- and Italian-speaking Switzerland, it has a significantly greater power to shape opinion than radio and the press.

The Media Monitor Switzerland is published for the second time. In terms of media offerings, the changes between 2017 and 2018 were minor overall. The ratings of television and radio are almost unchanged. Print lost some of its influence in all parts of the country, while online offerings became more important for opinion-forming.

Despite concentrations in the industry, Medienmonitor does not see any acute danger to the free formation of opinion. There is no medium that enjoys nationwide supremacy. The individual groups are not in a position to unduly shape national, linguistic-regional or local-regional opinion-forming, the report says.

"Duopoly" with Tamedia and SRG

In many areas, however, a "duopoly" is forming with the Swiss radio and television company SRG and the Zurich publishing house Tamedia. The two largest media companies, which are active in all regions with their own offerings, together already accounted for slightly more than half of national opinion power in 2018.

SRG comes to 35 percent, Tamedia recorded 16 percent of the Swiss opinion market. Numbers 3 and 4 are the NZZ Media Group (6%) and AZ Medien (5%), followed by Ringier (also 5%) and the regional groups Gruppo Corriere del Ticino, ESH Médias and Somedia, which together account for a further 3 percent of national opinion power.

In Latin Switzerland, the first public TV stations come close to the opinion power threshold of 50 index points. This means they reach just under half the population with their information every day.

The study concludes that SRG is benefiting the most from the general strengthening of online and, with srf.ch, is also presenting the opinion power climber of the year. The multilingual free commuter newspaper 20 minutes of Tamedia, meanwhile, continued to be considered number 1 for opinion power among the most important titles. (SDA/pd)

Serviceplan Suisse restages the KulturLegi from Caritas

With its «Mittendrin» campaign, the agency Serviceplan Suisse is promoting the KulturLegi, Caritas’s personal ID card.

Header_PR-Caritas-KuLe

Around 8% of the Swiss population lives at the subsistence level. With the KulturLegi, Caritas gives people on a small budget the opportunity to participate in social and cultural life. More than 3,000 private and public organizations from the fields of culture, sports, education and health grant discounts of up to 70% on admissions and courses. And thus ensure that those on low incomes are not pushed to the margins of society.

With the KulturLegi, their owners are right in the middle of the experience. Under this conceptual idea, Serviceplan Suisse developed a visual world in which people in a social or cultural environment were dramatized from a bird's eye view - in a swimming pool, in a concert hall, in a museum, and during a yoga class. One person is given an asterisk, which is resolved in a footnote in the image with the sentence: "In the thick of it thanks to Switzerland's KulturLegi offers".

The star used as an asterisk is taken from the KulturLegi logo, while the graphic detail of the individual locations serves as a visual bracket that is intended to ensure the independent appearance of the campaign.

The five subjects are used as posters, advertisements and in banners.

Berlin agency Kids launches in Zurich

After four years in Berlin, Kids Creative Agency is now opening an office in Zurich. Valentin Cheli, formerly of Wirz, and Nathalie Eggen, who previously worked at Migros and Jung von Matt/Limmat, are heading up the Zurich office and coaching teams to become more innovative, effective, and dynamic.

Valentin Cheli and Nathalie Eggen run Kids in Zurich.

People are the heart of a company, especially in times of digitalization. After all, it is people who drive innovation and bring strategies to life. This requires a culture that allows exactly that. And this is where the international team of strategists, cultural designers, team builders and all-round creatives comes in. In concrete terms, this means that Kids develops tools, ideas and processes that make people more innovative and creative, teams more self-determined and effective and thus organizations more flexible and agile.

The story of Kids began five years ago at the Hyper Island digital business school in Stockholm. It was there that the four founders met and set up their own agency as their final project. "We grew up in cultures with overtime, strict hierarchies and chaotic structures and founded Kids to reinvent the way people work together," says Valentin Cheli, co-founder of Kids. The tools, ideas and processes are taught in the form of training sessions that are always based on the principle of Feel, Think, Learn.

The Kids team already works for a number of well-known clients in Switzerland, including Swisscom, Switzerland Tourism and APG. "We supported the Swisscom marketing team in its transformation from a traditional structure to an agile collaboration model and helped it to establish a new culture of collaboration that can have a long-term impact," says Nathalie Eggen, Head of the Zurich office.

The agency has just moved into premises at Freyastrasse 21, in the heart of Wiedikon. The Playground was designed to inspire teams and promote creative thinking. It has recently opened and is now available for use. Rent available.

Doing better with Komet and FinanceScout24

Last fall, Komet emerged as the Scout24 Group’s new lead agency following a multi-stage pitch. The launch campaign for the new FinanceScout24 business unit is now the first visible result of this collaboration.

The Scout24 Group with its brands ImmoScout24, AutoScout24, MotoScout24, FinanceScout24 and anibis is the leading network of online marketplaces in Switzerland. After a multi-stage competitive presentation, it chose KOMET as its new lead agency last fall. According to its CMO Fabian Frank, KOMET "was able to convince Scout24's management with a strong and versatile lead idea" and its "very sympathetic, professional and direct exchange during the entire evaluation process".

The collaboration kicks off with the brand launch campaign for the new FinanceScout24 offering within the Scout24 ecosystem. As a one-stop store, FinanceScout24 offers a completely new - and simply better - way for customers to compare and take out mortgages, motor vehicle insurance and consumer loans.

No wonder, then, that the campaign shows a consumer on all channels saying "No" to the old world of finance and "Yes" to the new world of FinanceScout24. Or to use the campaign slogan: For everyone who wants it better.

The campaign can now be seen on posters, advertisements, megaposters and OOH measures as well as online and on TV, for which a comprehensive moving image concept with a total of 32 film versions was developed.

Twitter competition: Wikipedia founder has almost 500,000 users in new online network

Wikipedia founder Jimmy Wales' new online network has gained almost half a million users in less than three months. In its current form, it is "more of a direct competitor to Twitter than to Facebook", said Wales on Monday at the DLD innovation conference in Munich.

wt-social-logo

With the network called WT.Social (WikiTribune Social), he wants to offer an ad-free alternative to the ad-based business model of today's top dogs such as Facebook, said Wales. Above all, this promotes the focus on keeping users active on the platform by all means. Facebook and co. would also feel the effects of this: "If the public is convinced that your business model is destroying Western civilization, it's a long-term problem for the brand."

The online encyclopaedia Wikipedia, which he founded, has come through the flood of fake news and manipulation in recent years well, said Wales. This is due to the skepticism of the Wikipedia community. However, he is currently concerned about the death of local newspapers in the USA - because there is less knowledge as a result. (SDA)

PAM promotes PAM again

Following the mega-poster campaign in the summer of 2019, PAM is taking a more low-key approach with regular poster sites.

PAM wirbt wieder für PAM

"In 2020, we are also looking for new customers and leave nothing to chance. In an online course with Mike Shiva, we learned that these colors can have a target hypnotic effect," says Parvez Sheik Fareed, owner and CEO of PAM Advertising.

The posters can be seen in Zurich and Bern.
