Women's shelters and filmmakers jointly raise awareness against domestic violence

In times of Corona, the situation for women experiencing domestic violence is even more precarious. The umbrella organization of women's shelters, in collaboration with Chris Santiago and Attila Ulcay, has launched the awareness campaign "Not everything visible is real".

Sometimes threatened women can flee, to friends, relatives or to a women's shelter. Corona makes the situation even more precarious for many women who experience domestic violence. Many victims cannot flee, do not know where to go. In addition, victims spend even more time with their abusers. Behind closed doors, the violence remains invisible. It is especially important now to look instead of look away. The campaign aims to raise awareness of this.

Together against Domestic Violence

Measures to combat the corona virus have brought the entire creative industry to a standstill. This is also the case for Zurich filmmakers Chris Santiago, director, and Attila Ulcay, cameraman. While orders are falling away for creative professionals, women's shelters have more work to do than ever. The idea was born to raise awareness with a creative project in the crisis - together against domestic violence. In collaboration with a network of filmmakers, the Swiss fashion house Modissa and the actress Sira Topic, the campaign face, the project was realized.

We don't know what's behind the neighbor's smile, while under her clothes are bruises or traumatized personalities. Domestic violence is a stigmatized issue in our society. Everyone knows it exists. But hardly anyone talks about it. It often remains a private matter, invisible. And only rarely do women dare to go public. That's why it's important to make society aware of it and, not least, to give it courage.

How PR deals with gender-appropriate language

When it comes to gender-neutral language in professional communication, most PR experts use gender-neutral phrasing. This is shown by a recent survey conducted by News Aktuell and Faktenkontor among 92 communications professionals.

News Aktuell

The dpa subsidiary asked media outlets and PR agencies in Switzerland how they deal with gender-appropriate language in communications for their company or for their clients. 92 communicators took part in the survey.

Express equality

According to the survey, the vast majority of PR professionals use neutral language to express gender equality. A full 70 percent therefore use terms such as "employees" or "students". Still, well over half of the respondents write out the masculine and feminine forms, for example, by referring to "employees" or "students" (60 percent). Again, a third of respondents do not apply any uniform rules in their use of language (32 percent).

Internal spelling and gender asterisks less common

Less common are all indented spellings: Only one in five media offices and PR agencies uses the slash or bracket notation and writes, for example, "Mitarbeiter/innen" or "Mitarbeiter(innen)" (21 percent). Just as many respondents adhere to the so-called indented I by writing employees or students (21 percent). The gender asterisk is even rarer. Only 13 percent use the special character - for example, in the word Mitarbeiter*innen - in order to formulate in a gender-appropriate way. The underscore is not used at all by PR professionals (for example, Mitarbeiter_innen). Three percent of media and PR agencies do not use gender at all.

The results at a glance

  • Formulate gender neutral: 70%
  • Write out male and female form: 60%
  • No uniform regulation: 32%
  • Bracket/slash notation: 21%
  • Internal I: 21% Gender asterisk: 13%
  • Underline: 0%
  • "We don't practice gender-responsive language": 3%

The Online survey was conducted in February 2020 as part of the trend report by News Aktuell and Faktenkontor; multiple responses were possible. The data basis was 92 specialists and managers from media offices and PR agencies in Switzerland.

Futurelite is now called Family

Futurelite is now called Family. The agency is expanding and refining its positioning.

Family

In January 2020, the acquisition of the design agency Mad expanded the staff portfolio on the one hand and the customer portfolio on the other. The team of specialists expands the previous range of services by the disciplines SEO, web design and graphics and provides additional angles for creative development processes. "The newly created team complements each other perfectly - we are in the right place at the right time," says Managing Director Claudio Catrambone in a statement.

Break with traditions

During the rebranding process, the focus was on an appearance that was both simple and understandable. Hence "Family - Agency for Advertising and Film". The new brand is intended to convey the values of ten years of agency life: cultivating personal relationships with clients, maintaining flat hierarchies and breaking with established traditions. Catrambone is convinced: "Creative work is simply more promising when all parties enjoy it.

New in yellow and black

In order to make Family a brand that can be experienced, the agency building also underwent a redesign: The entrance area received a facelift, the offices were enlarged, the acoustics and the lighting concept were redesigned, and "Le Salon", a cozy sixties living room with a whisky bar, is available for creative outings.

Home Zurich and Bank Cler show the curators behind Q-Rated

As the exclusive sponsor of the new Q-Rated radio app, Bank Cler is expanding its commitment to Swiss music. Heimat Zürich is responsible for the app's launch campaign.

Bank Cler

Q-Rated from Brands are Live relies on personal music recommendations instead of anonymous algorithms. 16 so-called stations form the heart of the app. Each of these stations is compiled and continuously expanded by music creators. These curators therefore take center stage. Their choice of music determines the mood and genre of the individual station.

The key visuals designed by Heimat Zürich for the launch campaign are intended to reflect this diversity. Emotions, song content and the overarching genre were translated into visual elements. In combination with the portraits of the curators, collages were created that reflect very different moods.

The social media campaign can be seen on Facebook and Instagram - represented by the curators Dominic Whalley from the English soul band Jungle and Naomie Lareine, the young rap artist from Zurich. DJ Cruz will soon be joining the two with his own subject.

Red Cross and influencers to crack down on false Corona claims

The Red Cross plans to combat false claims about the coronavirus with the help of influencers. The International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) hopes to reach young people in particular through this initiative.

Coronavirus

A network of influencers with as many followers as possible will in future take up a message every week that clears up half-truths or false promises. Some 30 influencers with a combined two million followers are already on board, the federation reported Wednesday in Geneva.

"We run into all kinds of myths and questions, such as 'only old people get Covid-19' or 'can alcohol destroy the virus?' or 'are children immune?'" says IFRC spokesperson Ann Vaessen. Other questions involve keeping the correct distance or how to wear masks properly.

The Red Cross works with the advertising agency Billion Dollar Boy, which specializes in influencers. Each week, it presents a theme for the influencers to implement. What they make of it is approved by the agency and the Red Cross before it is posted. Everyone participates without a fee, the Red Cross emphasizes.

According to Vaessen, the influencers who are participating include Antonio Nunziata of Italy, who has just over 230,000 followers, Katie Woods of Great Britain, who has 190,000, and Neda Ghenai of the Arab Emirates, who has 116,000. (SDA)

Migros launches Amazon Prime-style subscription program

Migros Aare is testing a new membership program that includes a flat-rate delivery fee and a loyalty system. The pilot project, called M-Plus, is modeled after Amazon’s successful Amazon Prime program and is currently being tested in the Bern area, according to the latest issue of the Handelszeitung.

Migros

For a monthly subscription fee, participants will benefit from free grocery deliveries, double Cumulus points, and permanent discounts on popular products. Migros Aare confirms the launch of the pilot project, citing "increased online frequency due to eliminated delivery fees and convenience benefits across the Migros universe" as the goal.

Customer loyalty

From the new program, which involves Migros subsidiaries such as Digitec Galaxus, Le Shop and individual specialty stores, the Aare cooperative hopes to "increase share-of-wallet across the entire Migros ecosystem," as the Handelszeitung writes. What is meant by this is the intention to bind customers much more strongly to the Migros universe. Any plans to expand M-Plus would only be defined after a successful pilot phase.

Amazon copy?

Whether and to what extent the pilot project is a copy of Amazon Prime is commented on at the Aare cooperative as follows: "Migros always looks around in the market and checks whether other business models and ideas can offer our customers added value". For retail experts, however, it is clear that with M-Plus, Migros Aare is copying key elements of the Amazon Prime model, which has over 150 million paying members worldwide and is considered one of the most important building blocks of the US giant's success.

Karin Hawelka is the new campaign manager at Vier Pfoten Switzerland

Vier Pfoten Schweiz was able to appoint animal welfare expert Karin Hawelka as head of the campaign department. She replaced Lucia Oeschger as Head of Campaigns at the beginning of this year.

Vier Pfoten

Karin Hawelka founded the animal welfare organization "Care for Dogs Foundation" in Thailand in 2005. With an international team of around 10 employees, she set up an animal shelter with almost 200 street dogs including a clinic, organized sterilization programmes, the treatment of injured or sick dogs, adoption programmes and campaigns. Through her personal commitment, she was able to make a significant contribution to improving animal welfare on the ground. After returning to Switzerland, she is now contributing her experience to Vier Pfoten.

"Together with Karin Hawelka, we want to position ourselves even more strongly in politics, business and the public as influential advocates for animals," says Alexandra Mandoki, Country Manager of Vier Pfoten Switzerland.

Swiss publishing houses publish their visibility values for the first time

At the end of last year, IAB Switzerland and the Swiss Advertisers Association (SWA) announced their collaboration on a transparency initiative in the digital advertising market. As a second step, the visibility rates for digital ad impressions from the first quarter of 2020 are now being published for the first time.

The visibility of advertising media regularly leads to discussions between advertisers, agencies and publishers. Particularly problematic are different measurement methods, which change the figures in each case and thus offer little transparency and comparability.

The Swiss associations, together with the media houses and marketers, have therefore decided to increase transparency in the process and to publish the visibility values for all advertising media from this year. The standard for measurement is the 50/1 value of the international IAB, which means that 50 percent of the advertising medium must be in the visible area for at least one second.

As announced, Admeira, Goldbach/TX Markets, Audienzz, Romandie Network and Watson are now announcing the viewability figures for advertising impressions for the first quarter of 2020 for the first time:

  • Visibility reaches an average value of 71.1% for desktop display ads.
  • In mobile display advertising, the average value is 61.2%.
  • Overall, the visibility of the displayed advertising media reached a value of 65.1% in the first quarter.

The measurement is based on 4.4 billion ad impressions and was made with the following tools:

  • Admeira: Xandr and Google Ad Manager
  • Goldbach / TX Markets: Integral Ad Science (IAS) and Google Ad Manager
  • Audienzz: Xandr
  • Romandie Network: Smart Adserver
  • Watson: Google Ad Manager

Roland Ehrler, Director of SWA, is pleased with the figures: "It is important that we now have a regular 'pulse check' and - as is already customary in other countries - can now see on a quarterly basis how the visibility rates are developing, with the clear expectation that they will continue to improve successively. Compared to other European countries, we are slightly above average in Q1. However, we also see that a country like Austria is still 14% achieving higher viewability rates."

Publication will be on a quarterly basis in the future. It will certainly be interesting to see how the figures develop in the next quarter under the influence of the Corona crisis.

Ryan Reynolds in the new ManageMint

In a campaign for the mobile carrier Mint Mobile, majority owner Ryan Reynolds does a lot of things wrong—and, as a result, a lot of things right.

Ryan Reynolds

Ryan Reynolds' computer desktop reveals a lot about the actor - or rather his sense of humor.

After entering the spirits industry with the purchase of shares in Aviation Gin, Hollywood actor Ryan Reynolds decided to become the main owner of mobile operator Mint Mobile almost six months ago.

Anyone who knows Reynolds knows that the actor has a keen sense of humor and is particularly fond of poking fun at himself (and his wife Blake Lively). This is no different with his first campaign for the mobile phone provider, whose original concept - an "epic film" - had to be thrown out because of the Corona pandemic. Reynolds then took the initiative himself and gave a PowerPoint presentation on video - in a skillfully ironic manner, with lots of kitschy stock photos and a guest appearance by his brother and his mother.
