Südostschweiz-Medienhaus: Construction has begun

Work on the new Südostschweiz Medien media center began on Thursday with a symbolic groundbreaking ceremony. Some 300 people will work there in an innovative work environment.

In summer 2015, the Südostschweiz Media - which also includes Werbewoche - will combine its editorial offices as well as distribution and sales at one location. The new media house is intended to promote permeability between the editorial offices and thus so-called convergence.

The media house consists of three zones: Newspapers, radio, television and online media are produced in the News Zone and planned and managed at a central news desk. In the Commercial Zone, all sales and marketing units will promote, advertise and sell these media. In the third zone, the Education Zone, HTW will run its courses as part of the Institute for Media and Communication and Multimedia Production. The fact that teaching, research and practical application are all under one roof in the media sector is unique in Europe.

The building was designed by the Chur architect Maurus Frei. Despite a length of almost 100 meters, the media building manages entirely without internal supports and columns. The media building is set to become a landmark in the developing Chur West.

The media company will centralize its more than 300 employees in the Chur and Chur Rhine Valley area. The customer printing plant Südostschweiz Print on Kasernenstrasse will be retained as a pure production site. The remaining premises are to be sold.

The media house will trigger a total investment volume of around CHF 30 million. This also includes all costs for technical equipment, radio and TV studios and furniture.

Radio Grisha is reporting continuously on Thursday about the ground-breaking ceremony for the media house. Detailed reports with interviews are also shown Tele Southeast Switzerland in its news every hour from 6 pm.

Teil.ch: Cross-media Foxtrail campaign

The agency Teil.ch has launched a cross-media fall campaign for the Foxtrail scavenger hunt adventure to further fuel the excitement surrounding the game.

To alleviate typical symptoms of hunting fever, Teil.ch developed a giveaway in the form of a medicine. The blister packs of green hunting fever pastilles (candies) were distributed at the Basel, Lucerne and Zurich train stations. Commuters received all further information, as well as the reference to the online competition, on the package insert.

The campaign was accompanied by hanging boxes on public transport in the seven Foxtrail cities, as well as online banners, newsletter articles and an online competition. In the latter, among other things, one can win an extra cure in the form of a wellness weekend for two, to round off the theme of the campaign accordingly. Thanks to the implementation with Responsive Design, hunt-hungry people can also comfortably participate in the competition with their smartphones. Those who want to cure themselves of the fever or prefer to spread it can do so until the end of October at Foxtrail competition.ch do

Responsible at Swisscovery: Thomas Bösiger (Marketing & Sales Manager), Daniel Arnold (Operations Director). Responsible at Teil.ch: Alain Zeiter (consulting), Martin Zeiter (CD).

Swissquote becomes Formula 1 sponsor

The online bank Swissquote becomes a sponsor of Formula 1. Last week, Swissquote acquired MIG Bank in Lausanne. In doing so, it also acquired a sponsorship contract for the Mercedes AMG Petronas Formula 1 team.

"We will continue our Formula 1 sponsorship," says Swissquote CEO Marc Bürki in an interview with Handelszeitung. The fact that the Swissquote logo will be on the racetrack in the future is expensive, he says. "But these advertising costs make sense against the background that next year we will replace the MIG brand with that of Swissquote," Bürki said. The contract runs until the end of the 2014 Formula 1 season, and it has not yet been decided whether Swissquote will renew the sponsorship agreement for the years starting in 2015.

Comparative advertising: SLK reprimands UPC Cablecom

To promote its own Internet service as the fastest, UPC Cablecom used two different «time measurements.» The Third Chamber of the Fair Trading Commission therefore upheld the competitor’s complaint.

"Surf faster than with the fastest Swisscom DSL" is the headline in question. The competitor considered this comparison to be unfair and filed a complaint with the Swiss Fairness Commission (SLK), according to a statement on Wednesday. Rightly so, as the Third Chamber decided in its summer session. According to principle No. 3.5 of the SLK as well as Art. 3 lit. e UWG, comparative advertising is considered unfair if it compares one's own goods, works, services or their prices with other goods, works, services or their prices in an incorrect, misleading, infringing or unnecessarily leaning manner. The basis for this is the understanding of an average addressee (principle no. 1.1 no. 2 of the SLK). The Third Board concluded that the statement complained of was factually incorrect from this point of view. Since the term "DSL" is not primarily understood as a product designation, but rather as a standard for data transmission, not only the competing offers that are explicitly labeled "DSL" may be used for a comparison.

Footers do not correct false statement

The star reference in the advertisements does not change this. Especially since the corresponding footer is formulated in an ambiguous manner and is set off in too small a font. Footers are generally not suitable to correct a possibly incorrect or misleading statement in a copy text or in a headline; they can only be used to specify and further clarify a content. For this purpose, however, the references must be written in a size that can be easily perceived by an average reader.

In response to an inquiry from the SDA news agency, Cablecom said that the controversial slogan had not been used for several months. The company is now refraining from direct comparisons with competitors in its advertising and is promoting the "fastest Internet in Switzerland".

About the Fairness Commission

Any person is authorized and legitimized to complain to the Swiss Fairness Commission about commercial communications that they believe are unfair. The SLK has been the self-control body of the advertising industry since 1966. In addition to the industry associations, it includes the Federal Office of Public Health, the State Secretariat for Economic Affairs SECO, the equality offices of the city of Zurich, the lottery and betting commission Comlot, the Swiss Federal Institute of Intellectual Property IGE and consumer associations. The SLK has been chaired by National Councilor Christine Bulliard-Marbach since 2012.

SRF: Charles Liebherr becomes Paris correspondent

Charles Liebherr, 47, will replace Ruedi Mäder as SRF radio correspondent in Paris in summer/fall 2014.

Charles Liebherr will take up the position of SRF Radio's France correspondent next year, according to a press release. He studied history, German literature and linguistics as well as political science in Basel and Lausanne. He also completed a Master's degree in "European Integration". Charles Liebherr gained television experience in the mid-1990s, then moved to SRG SSR and in 2000 to Radio DRS as Head of Multimedia. After a detour to SBB Communications, he returned to Swiss Radio in the same year and has been working there as business editor ever since.

Charles Liebherr's experience in and with France, his broad knowledge and wide-ranging interests are the best prerequisites for the new assignment in Paris. His reporting area also includes the Council of Europe in Strasbourg and the OECD in Paris. He is due to take up the post in summer/autumn 2014. Liebherr's predecessor Ruedi Mäder will retire at this time.

Switzerland: Skepticism about advertising on the wane

The Swiss have significantly more trust in advertising than they did two years ago. That is the finding of a global online survey conducted by Nielsen.

For example, 49% of participants have confidence in TV advertising - an increase of 19 percentage points compared to 2011. TV advertising has thus recently become one of the top 5 most trusted advertising formats in Switzerland. A total of 500 consumers in Switzerland took part in the survey, compared to 29,000 worldwide. Trust in radio advertising (up 18 percentage points), product placement in TV programs (up 17 percentage points), cinema advertising (up 15 percentage points) and newspaper advertising (up 14 percentage points) has also increased since 2011. In addition, the Swiss consider sponsorship, product placement and outdoor advertising to be much more trustworthy than two years ago. In the trust ranking of all advertising measures, however, these tend to be in the midfield.

Brand presences on the Internet enjoy a high reputation

Online and mobile advertising has also gained a great deal of trust, in the double-digit range in each case. However, they do not come close to the acceptance of traditional advertising - with one exception: brand presences on the internet are held in high regard by the Swiss. Of all paid online formats, websites are the most accepted and have gained significantly more trust compared to 2011 (54% compared to 41% in 2011). Websites occupy fourth place in the trust ranking. "Brand managers should be encouraged by the fact that their company websites are among the forms of advertising that consumers trust the most," says Andreas Leisi, Market Leader Nielsen Alpine. "It shows that companies on the Internet are able to communicate their brand messages in a way that is perceived as credible by consumers. This credibility is a decisive component in terms of the effect that an advertising measure has on the consumer."

Company-independent opinions are very popular

A clear majority of respondents (81%) still trust recommendations from family, friends or acquaintances, although the proportion has fallen compared to 2011. Back then, 92% said they trusted recommendations. The Swiss also attach importance to editorial information, for example in the form of newspaper articles, as well as online comments from other consumers. However, the actual purchase decision is not always directly related to the trust that an advertising format enjoys. Companies are most likely to persuade consumers to make a purchase via a newsletter subscription; only the recommendations of others motivate the Swiss more. Only 40 percent of survey participants consider subscription e-mails to be a trustworthy format.

"Swiss consumer satisfaction has remained stable since the slump in the consumer confidence index in 2011 - this has a positive effect on the acceptance of advertising," explains Andreas Leisi. "However, there will always be other factors that lead to a purchase decision, such as the emotional appeal to the customer or price arguments." Ultimately, the way in which companies address consumers and the topics they use are also important: At 58 percent, most Swiss appreciate humorous advertising in particular. However, real-life situations (41%), the topics of family (29%) and health (25%), as well as advertising featuring animals or children also appeal to consumers - although more women than men tend to do so.

Consumers also trust advertising more at EU level

Within the EU, trust in advertising is similar to that in Switzerland: over the past two years, the credibility of the various advertising formats has increased and trust is highest when other people make recommendations or leave comments on the internet. However, as in Switzerland, these components have lost some of their importance compared to 2011. Trust in online and mobile advertising is also increasing at European level, which underlines the growing importance of these formats.

About the Nielsen online survey

Nielsen's online survey on trust in advertising took place between February 18 and March 8, 2013. Nielsen surveyed more than 29,000 regular internet users in 58 countries in the Asia-Pacific, Europe, Latin America, Middle East, Africa and North America regions. The sample is proportioned and weighted by age and gender for each country based on the respective Internet users. It thus represents the Internet users of the country and has a maximum deviation of ±0.6 percent. This Nielsen online survey is based exclusively on the behavior of respondents with Internet access. Internet penetration varies by country. For a country to be included in the survey, Nielsen requires that at least 60 percent of the population or ten million people have Internet access. The Nielsen Global Survey, which also includes the Global Consumer Confidence Survey, has been conducted continuously since 2005.

World Vision: New Head of Communications

World Vision Schweiz hat die Spendemöglichkeiten per 1. Oktober 2013 angepasst. Ausserdem hat Juerg Hostettler kürzlich die Leitung des Kommunikationsteams übernommen.

Managing Director Reto Gerber has been in office for around a year. He joined the Dübendorf-based NGO from the Zurich-based service and retail group DKSH Switzerland. Gerber is convinced: "Specific expertise from the private sector brings us a great deal closer to our goal of creating "A World for Children". The humanitarian sector can only benefit from such experience". The new Director of Marketing & Communication, Valeria Habersatter, also brings with her many years of experience in marketing and strategy from the cement producer Holcim.

New Head of Communication

Juerg Hostettler took over as head of the communications team at the launch of the new donation options. Hostettler was previously Head of Communications at Glas Trösch, the largest independent glass manufacturer in Europe. The 40-year-old has international experience in the military, where he served as Head of Communications for Swisscoy (Swiss Army) in the KFOR peace support mission in Kosovo. Hostettler is also familiar with the media side of things from his time as a freelance editor for Swiss television and 3sat. Hostettler originally studied Film & TV at the University of Melbourne. He recently graduated from the ZHAW with a Master's degree in Communication Management & Leadership and a Master's thesis on "Emotional Branding".

New possibilities, same goal

The new options for donors of the Dübendorf Children's Fund are complemented by a new look. "In future, we will place even more emphasis on focusing our communication on the donors," explains Reto Gerber. Children and long-term, sustainable development cooperation will remain at the heart of our work. "I am convinced that, together and with a new and well-positioned team, we can play our part in creating a world for children," concludes Gerber.

Y&R Group Geneva receives multiple awards

Die «Dilemmas»-Kampagne für die UNHCR von Young & Rubicam Genf wurden im September mit einem «Euro Effie» und zwei «Grand» ausgezeichnet.

Young & Rubicam Group Geneva has been awarded its first Bronze Effie for the "Dilemmas" campaign, which was created on behalf of the UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency. The European Association of Communications Agencies (EACA) announced the winners on September 18 in Brussels. The EACA Euro Effies are regarded as a benchmark for the efficiency of marketing and communications campaigns. Only works that have achieved proven and measurable success in two or more European markets are honored.

The aim was to make people understand what terrible decisions refugees have to make. In this way, they develop compassion and are more willing to help. This is exactly what the international and multidisciplinary agency's "Dilemmas" campaign achieved. Throughout the media, people were encouraged to confront the predicaments of refugees and asked the question: "What would you do?"

Young & Rubicam Group Geneva launched the campaign in June 2012 in several countries around the world. The task was to get the target audience to put themselves in the shoes of refugees in order to understand the predicament they find themselves in. Without a media budget, the campaign secured over 500,000 dollars worth of global media coverage. UNHCR Special Envoy Angelina Jolie also generated numerous reports on online media. In two months, the campaign generated coverage in over 100 countries and over 1.2 million followers on social media.

In addition to the Effie, the campaign also won two "Grand" awards at the Grand Prix Romand de la Création, which took place in Geneva on September 20.

Marcus Brown, CEO of Young & Rubicam Group in Geneva said: "This is excellent news. It is proof that our creative talent in Geneva can compete at the highest level. We have over 50 years of experience in international, strategic brand-building in Switzerland. We continue to build on this to deliver impressive results for our clients. Celebrating successes together with our clients makes it all the more rewarding."

FINAL800

Last but not least: There!

The Swedish fashion label Björn Borg announced the opening of its Russian online store with a full-page rainbow ad in The Moscow Times.

In Russia, there is still room for improvement when it comes to tolerance towards homosexuals. The recently passed law caused incredulous shaking of heads around the world and, just a few months before the start of the Sochi Olympics, caused serious damage to the country's image. Sweden is the complete opposite: The country is considered one of the most liberal in the world in this respect.

For tennis legend Björn Borg's fashion label, which is extremely successful in Scandinavia, equality of all kinds is one of the company's guiding principles. In the past, the company of the same name has already advertised with a Spotin which gay marriage was celebrated. When Björn Borg recently opened a Russian branch of his online store, the label didn't miss out on the side blow and published a full-page newspaper advertisement in the English-language daily newspaper The Moscow Times. The widespread claim "Björn Borg says yes!" was adapted into Russian. (hae)

Women in Business: Redesign for anniversary

To mark the fourth anniversary of *Women in Business*, the business magazine for women, the publication is unveiling a new look.

The typography as well as the visual language have been completely revised by art director Aurel Peyer and, according to the press release, are intended to appear more refined, modern and open. The layout already starts with the cover and also touches on the "Women in Business" lettering. "The content of the magazine has also changed," says editor-in-chief Sabine Hauptmann: "The financial section has been redesigned and an exciting column will be a permanent feature of our magazine. In the newly created "Roadbook" section, a car will be presented in each case, authentically and deliberately subjectively, tested by a Woman in Business. In addition, the focus in the future will be even more on exceptional women in Switzerland and on the international stage."

Parallel to the redesign, the magazine is launching a subscription campaign. Under the keyword "4Years," readers can now order an annual subscription for 49 francs instead of 79 francs until the end of October. The next issue of Women in Business will be published on October 3, 2013.

Three million for the audiovisual heritage

In late September 2013, Memoriav’s Executive Board approved the 2014 grant allocations. In 2014, Memoriav will provide approximately 2.5 million Swiss francs in funding to support 20 projects across Switzerland aimed at preserving and cataloging Switzerland’s audiovisual cultural heritage.

The association is also investing around half a million francs in the information platform in the coming year Memobase as well as in education and training and collaborations with colleges and universities. In 2014, for example, preservation projects will be supported for the video collection of the Swiss Museum of Transport in Lucerne, for the film collection of the "Fédération internationale des Sociétés de la Croix-Rouge et du Croissant-Rouge" in Geneva and for sound recordings of the constituent assemblies of the Canton of Jura. The preservation measures of SRG SSR in the area of TV/radio and the Cinémathèque suisse in the area of Swiss film heritage are also once again receiving significant support.

The results of a recent Memoriav preservation project can be seen until February 23, 2014 in the exhibition "Emil Schulthess - Retrospective" at the Fotostiftung Schweiz in Winterthur. Important audiovisual holdings and collections are permanently accessible to the public on Memoriav's information platform Memobase.
