SW welcomes self-regulation for credit advertising

In its draft bill, the Wak-N proposes that the consumer credit industry should combat aggressive advertising in a convention under private law. SW Schweizer Werbung fully supports this regulation.

On September 30, the consultation period for the draft of the National Council's Economic Committee (Wak-N) regarding the revision of the Federal Consumer Credit Act (KKG) expired (Werbewoche.ch reported). In its statement, SW Schweizer Werbung welcomes the Wak-N's proposal to give the consumer credit industry the opportunity to define the criteria for aggressive advertising in a convention under private law and to prevent violations of these criteria. According to the association, the Swiss Commission for Fair Trading has proven since 1966 that such a solution serves consumers as well as the industry and relieves the courts in the long term. The Federal Council had already confirmed this in 2006 in its response to the Stump motion: "Where self-regulation and self-regulation [...] have proven their worth, it is not appropriate to take legislative action."

The umbrella organization for commercial communication therefore firmly rejects the ban on advertising originally called for. It is not only unconstitutional, but also misses the actual goal of reducing youth debt. In general, SW Schweizer considers advertising bans to be an unsuitable means of solving social problems. On the contrary, they prevent transparency in the market and therefore harm consumers.

As the next step in the parliamentary process, the Wak-N consolidates its draft and submits it to the National Council. The WAK-S and the Council of States will then examine the bill. Even if no further clarifications are required and no major differences need to be resolved between the two Councils, the final vote is unlikely to take place before the 2014 fall or winter session.

Radio SRF 3: Two new programs

Radio SRF 3 is launching two new weekend shows: Starting Saturday, October 5, 2013, Andi Rohrer will kick off the weekend, and starting Sunday, October 6, 2013, Peter Walt will wrap up the week.

SRF 3 brings a breath of fresh air to the weekend. From October 5, 2013, Saturday mornings will belong to the "new kid on the block," Andi Rohrer. "Andi Rohrer am Samschtig" offers current music, live music classics, lifestyle on wheels and people from all over the world - up-to-date, unfiltered and uncensored. Mario Torriani, Head of Presenting SRF 3: "Andi loves radio, lives music and is simply the best buddy you could wish for on the weekend - also always a little unpredictable, but that suits us well. We're very happy to have him on board and in exactly the right slot." The new content "Mini Räder - Mis Läbe," "SRF 3 Klassiker" and "Andi Fernrohrer" tell stories about the SRF 3 audience's wackiest vehicles, dig up "forgotten" SRF 3 classics to revive them live, and bring the wide world home to listeners unfiltered and uncensored.

"Mini Wheels - Mis Läbe"Whether car, motorcycle, bicycle, baby carriage, glider or soapbox: Andi makes them and their owners the subject. And in doing so, he provides unusual insights into the psyche of the "pimping", screwing, modifying and nostalgically-inspired SRF 3 listeners.

"SRF 3 Classics": In addition to new music, Rohrer also presents SRF 3 classics for (re)discovery. The presenter doesn't talk about the classics, he plays them on his electric guitar.

"Andi Fernrohrer"SRF 3 listeners from all over the world become protagonists in "Andi FernRohrer". Rohrer looks at present-day locations and picks up personal impressions from the audience, for example from the island off which the Costa Concordia is moored, or he has residents in Los Angeles explain to him what the real Los Santos from the hit game GTA 5 is like, and so on.

Sunday night on SRF 3 with Peter Walt

Peter Walt, SRF 3 presenter since 1997, brings the old week to a close from Sunday, October 6, 2013, with a somewhat different approach. Walt takes up current topics and illuminates them from unusual angles, presents the attitudes of various parties and creates knowledge that had no place during the week. Torriani: "Peter is not only a high-profile SRF 3 voice, but also a gifted lateral thinker. In his show, he looks for the people behind the headlines, the extras in the back row and asks questions that no one has asked before, interactively with the SRF 3 audience."

Ammarkt with new top management

The St. Gallen-based agency Ammarkt is preparing for the future and has restructured its organization to accommodate its recent growth. As a result, Jan Maurer has joined the executive team, rounding out the new leadership.

In recent years, Ammarkt has succeeded in expanding its portfolio to include attractive national and regional customers. The team has grown as a result - to 40 employees today - and the challenge of adapting processes and organization to the new requirements. Guided by the vision of further establishing itself as a creative but business-oriented agency, Ammarkt found a solution to ensure sustainable, continuous development, according to a statement.

Jan Maurer and Fabian Bucher new in the management team

Jan Maurer joined the Ammarkt consulting team in September 2013. The co-founder of the Zurich advertising agency Unikat and former Ikea marketing manager joins as Client Service Director and member of the Executive Board. He joins Marcel Odermatt, CEO and member of the board of directors, Ralf Kostgeld, creative director, and Fabian Bucher, senior consultant and head of strategy. Bucher has already been working at the agency since 2010 and was newly appointed to the Executive Board due to his outstanding performance. The engagement of Jan Maurer and Fabian Bucher is a clear commitment by Ammarkt to further strengthen consulting expertise and customer proximity.

There are also changes in the management team. Agency founder, co-owner and CEO Michael Schmid is withdrawing from day-to-day operations in order to devote more time to the agency's strategic and creative challenges. He and his expertise will thus remain with Ammarkt. In his new role as Strategic Director, he intends to drive the agency forward strategically and creatively in key projects as well as new business. He will do this in close cooperation with Creative Director Ralf Kostgeld and the entire creative team at Ammarkt.

Continuity is provided by Marcel Odermatt, who has been a partner for five years and, as CEO, has until now managed the agency together with Michael Schmid. He now manages the agency alone, in close cooperation with the management and the board of directors. Jan Maurer will act as his deputy.

Board of Directors with Torsten Tomczak

What has remained is the Board of Directors, which is chaired by co-founder Heinz Frischknecht and formed by Michael Schmid, Marcel Odermatt and Torsten Tomczak. The renowned marketing expert from the University of St.Gallen and Director of the Research Center for Customer Insight advises Ammarkt in particular on the successful coordination of planned communication measures with the purchasing and consumer behavior of the relevant target groups.

Today, Ammarkt is led by a team that is always looking for the key point to make a brand more attractive, more desirable and thus more relevant. A proven and successful formula from which customers in particular benefit.

Circulation of Swiss Newspapers Continues to Fall

The method has changed, but the finding remains: Swiss newspapers are losing circulation. The decline in circulation is particularly pronounced at Blick, Tages-Anzeiger and Sonntagsblick. This is shown by the Wemf figures published on Tuesday.

The commuter newspaper 20 Minuten remains the highest-circulation newspaper with a total circulation of 493'236 copies; Blick am Abend comes in at 308'936. The published circulation figures from Wemf AG für Werbemittelforschung cover the survey period from July 1, 2012 to June 30, 2013.

The paid newspapers follow at a clear distance behind the free papers: Blick remains the largest paid daily newspaper in Switzerland with a circulation of 179'181 copies, followed by Tages-Anzeiger (173'877) and Nordwestschweiz (Aargauer Zeitung) (168'411). The order of the newspapers with the highest circulation thus remains unchanged compared with the previous year. Since the circulation regulations were changed at the request of the Association of Swiss Media, the data can no longer be compared with the previous figures. "However, the trend is still downward," said Roland Achermann, head of circulation certification at Wemf, when asked by news agency SDA. Digital editions could not compensate for the losses.

Some circulation losses result, among other things, from the fact that according to the new methodology, the delivery interruptions are now deleted from the certified circulation, as Achermann said. However, this does not explain the decrease in circulation to this extent by far. The regulations were adapted, among other things, because of the growing need of media companies to record the digital forms of their publications more completely.

Blick and Tagi with significantly lower circulations

The Blick, Tages-Anzeiger, and Berner Zeitung newspapers experienced a particularly sharp decline, with circulation down by more than 10,000 copies. According to the latest Wemf figures, the circulation of the Basler Zeitung is also significantly lower. This slipped below 60'000 copies, after a circulation of over 68'000 had been reported last year. Other titles also lost ground with the new methodology compared with the previous year, albeit less significantly. The Neue Zürcher Zeitung now has a circulation of 126'795 copies (previous year: 129'627). Südostschweiz has a circulation of 121'047 (121'185), Neue Luzerner Zeitung 114'544 (118'924) and St. Galler Tagblatt 111'285 copies (previous year: 115'623).

Head-to-head race for Sunday newspapers

Among the Sunday newspapers, two titles are in a neck-and-neck race for the highest circulation: the Ringier title Sonntagsblick and Schweiz am Sonntag from the two publishing houses AZ Medien and Südostschweiz Medien. Sonntagsblick achieved a circulation of 203'351 copies - and thus around 20'000 fewer than in the previous year. Close on the heels of the Ringier Sunday title is now Schweiz am Sonntag (203'130 copies). The former newspapers Der Sonntag and Südostschweiz am Sonntag have been published under this brand title since March. According to the latest figures, the Tamedia publishing house has made strong gains with its Sonntagszeitung and, thanks to special offers for Basler Zeitung and Bund subscribers, now has a circulation of 194'127 copies (previous year: 175'882). The NZZ Media Group's NZZ am Sonntag reaches 132'551 copies; Zentralschweiz am Sonnta 101'768 copies. Ostschweiz am Sonntag, launched in March 2013, has a circulation of 81'291 copies. The target is a circulation of at least 90'000 copies, it said at the launch. This Sunday newspaper is published as the seventh edition of the St. Galler Tagblatt, which belongs to the NZZ Media Group. The published list of Wemf is not yet complete, and not all titles have been checked yet, according to Wemf. The definitively checked figures will appear in November.

E-papers do not yet reach the large audience

Digital editions of newspapers, so-called e-papers, do not yet reach the large audience. Only the Neue Zürcher Zeitung has over ten thousand digital subscriptions. According to the latest Wemf figures, the NZZ has 10,110 digital subscriptions. The NZZ am Sonntag has just under 7,000, putting the NZZ media group ahead of the competition in terms of digital offerings: Wemf reports an e-paper circulation of 1,377 copies for Tamedia's flagship Tages-Anzeiger, while the figure for the Sonntagszeitung is slightly lower. For most titles with a corresponding offering, the e-paper circulation is just a few hundred copies. The St. Galler Tagblatt, for example, has a circulation of 438 copies, the Basler Zeitung
to 380 and the Winterthurer Landbote to 173 copies. (SDA)

Last but not least: Horse whispering 2.0

A cameraman for the show «Born to Explore» remained unfazed by a horse’s attempts to approach him while filming—and is now going viral.

The team from the American TV show visited Chilean horse whisperer Gonzalo Vial in the summer. While presenter Richard Wiese had the expert explain the theoretical background, cameraman Greg Harriett made the acquaintance of one of the animal protagonists. When horses whisper back, it's all about keeping your composure - top marks for Harriett! (hae)

Spina's Civil Voices: TNT for BFA

Spinas Civil Voices has created a viral, highly impactful campaign for BFA/Fastenopfer against food speculation.

Commodity exchanges originally served as price hedges for farmers and food traders. But as a result of the global financial crisis, banks and other large investors looked for new "safe values" for their business. They found such values in foodstuffs such as corn and rice, among others. When rumors of crop failures appeared on the stock markets, financial jugglers began betting billions on rising prices, causing food prices to skyrocket. The main victims are once again the poorest people in the world, who have to spend up to 80 percent of their income on food. Particularly piquant is the fact that around one third of the global food trade is transacted via the commodity hub of Switzerland.

With an impressive, highly explosive viral that is going viral these days, BFA/Fastenopfer wants to shake things up and put pressure on the banks - especially Credit Suisse, which is one of the dominant players on the commodity exchanges. On the campaign website, which was also designed by Spina's Civil Voices Stop-speculation.ch you can join the demand and support the initiative.
