Interpunkt: Layout developed for Aaround

The Aarau region now has one more print publication—the free magazine *Aaround*: The *Aaround* layout was designed by the Interpunkt agency, which prevailed over its competitors in a pitch process.

Aaround is published every two weeks with a circulation of 45,000 copies. In addition to local event information, the editorial team has the ambition to research its own articles from the local economy, society and politics, according to a press release on Friday. The magazine's target group is members of all age groups who want to actively participate in regional life.
The Aaround layout was designed by the agency Interpunkt, which won out over its competitors in a pitch process. Interpunkt also supported the launch of the first issue and provided the layout team with advice and assistance. The Aaround website is also being developed by the agency and is currently still in the development phase.
In addition, Interpunkt developed an online application that makes the employees' daily work easier and integrates seamlessly into the ongoing work process. All editors have access to the editing tool via the browser, regardless of their location, and can feed in both texts and images directly. Combined with this are the tools for sales: a customer database with a complete CRM, where advertisements can also be booked and texts and images uploaded. The event calendar is also updated via the tool. The layout designer can then transfer the magazine content and advertisements directly from the CMS into the typesetting process.

Paroli joins the Association of PR Agencies

After five years on the market, Paroli joined the BPRA on October 22, 2009. The Zurich-based PR agency hopes that its membership will lead to even better national and international networking and certification according to the CMSII standard in the near future.

Paroli was founded in 2004 by Oliver Suter and Claudio Rotter. Today, 23 specialists work for the agency in all classic PR disciplines. Clients include Swiss companies from the retail, financial and healthcare sectors, as well as associations and non-profit organizations.
"Now that we have expanded our management team, membership of the BPRA has come at exactly the right time. It sends out a signal to the market that we are broadening our experience and getting involved beyond our own little garden," says Oliver Suter of the latest step. Claudio Rotter adds: "The certification we are aiming for is also important for us. It guarantees our customers a consistently high quality of service and rewards the efforts we have made in recent years." Peter Knobel, President of the BPRA, welcomes the inclusion of Paroli: "Paroli is an enrichment for us. The agency has proven in recent years that it does creative, innovative and sustainable PR work. We are very much looking forward to working with them."

Saatchi & Saatchi: Realized campaign against human trafficking for IOM

Saatchi & Saatchi has created a Europe-wide campaign against human trafficking. The client is the International Organization for Migration (IOM).

According to the press release, the aim of the campaign is to raise consumer awareness of the problem of cheap labor, which is moved and traded like goods. The public debate is intended to help change unthinking purchasing behavior, question purchasing decisions and shop more consciously. It is a universal insight that more and more consumers prefer to buy brands and products that match their humanitarian and ethical convictions. But hardly anyone knows what is really behind everyday products and the labor used to make them. The Saatchi & Saatchi campaign therefore calls on people to ask: What is behind the things we buy?
To kick off the third European "Anti-Trafficking Day" in Brussels, an installation was set up on Place Schuman showing people trapped under a gigantic, oversized shopping trolley.
The campaign also includes a 30-second movie and at its heart the web platform www.buyresponsibly.orgwhere you can download a document to ask questions. "We are not asking consumers to change the world," says Philippe Schwaar, Creative Director of the campaign at Saatchi & Saatchi. "But if we all start to question whether our purchases have been produced without human trafficking, it will set something important in motion. Companies that ignore social dimensions in production will increasingly be boycotted."
Over 400 press articles around the world have reported on the campaign. The Facebook group Responsible Buyers has grown to over 460 people. After just 4 days, the web platform Buyresponsible.org had more than 6,000 visitors.
Responsible at IOM, Geneva: Richard Danziger (Head of Counter Trafficking Division). Responsible at Saatchi & Saatchi: Philippe Schwaar (Creative Director), Boris Declerck (Text), Anthony Lamy (Head of Interactive), Lamar Hawkins (Production).

JvM/Limmat: Young talent initiative Tecmania.ch developed

Following a pitch organized by the industry association Swissmem, Jung von Matt/Limmat was awarded the contract to significantly improve the image of technical professions through an initiative aimed at attracting young talent.

Under the slogan: "You know it, you can do it. Enter the world of technology", the three-year campaign was launched on October 28, 2009.

At the heart of the campaign is the Internet platform Tecmania.ch. National billboards, display campaigns, and activities on social media platforms all lead to the website. Tecmania.ch primarily offers fascinating stories that take place in the world of technology. A monthly e-magazine with short videos, infographics, image galleries and competitions offers exciting insights into the industry and motivates people to enter the world of technology. The platform also presents companies and job profiles in the industry and provides a quick overview of the various study and training opportunities. Young people can search for apprenticeships and get in touch with the companies.

The Tecmania initiative starts in elementary school. Basic knowledge about technology is promoted via numerous interactive teaching materials at primary and secondary level. These materials are all based on the content of Tecmania.ch and are closely linked to the platform.
On October 28, 2009, the launch of the multi-year initiative took place at Technorama Winterthur. Over 100 invited guests, including high-ranking representatives from Swissmem member companies, attended the event together with ten school classes. Tecmania.ch will have a strong offline presence over the next two months in a special exhibition at Technorama and then at numerous careers fairs.

Last but not least: funny bag shouting

Fisherman's Friend wants to know how loud ice hockey fans really are and has launched a competition with a difference.

Before the start of a field hockey match, every shouter can test their volume by shouting into an oversized Fisherman's Friend bag. The level of their vocalizations is measured in decibels. The scores achieved are continuously recorded on a board. This is intended to encourage more fans to roar along. The three loudest fans finally compete in the grand final for the day's victory during the last interval of the third period - on the ice in front of the entire crowd.
A whole series of SCB and EVZ field hockey stars have already shown how it's done. However, their high score has already been beaten - the current screaming record is now 127.8 decibels. A jet from a hundred meters away should sound quieter, writes Fisherman's Friend...

Radio and TV legend Heiner Gautschy dies

Swiss radio and television legend Heiner Gautschy died Wednesday at the age of 91. He was Swiss Radio's first correspondent in the United States.

This was announced by former TV editor Erwin Koller on Thursday, according to SDA. Gautschy was Swiss radio's first USA correspondent. With the unmistakable announcement "Hello Beromünster, this is Heiner Gautschy in New York", the journalist shaped the image of the USA for an entire generation. He was one of the best-known voices on Swiss DRS radio in the 1950s and 1960s.
Switch to Swiss television
He was born on November 20, 1917 in Basel to a family of factory owners. After studying history and working as a journalist in various media, he went to America as a correspondent in 1949. He analyzed and commented on current affairs in the USA for the radio until 1967. He also had temporary assignments in China, the Soviet Union and Cuba.
The legendary voice was given a face for the general public when Gautschy moved to Swiss television in 1967. He was co-founder and head of the magazine "Runschau" until 1976.

Wolfram Weimer becomes Focus editor-in-chief

Wolfram Weimer, the founder of Cicero and former editor-in-chief of *Die Welt*, will become editor-in-chief of *Focus* starting in the fall of 201. The 44-year-old will replace Helmut Markwort at the helm of the news magazine he founded in 1993.

As of September 1, 2010, Weimer will take on an equal dual leadership role with Editor-in-Chief Uli Baur and will share responsibility for the magazine with him, as Focus online writes on Thursday.
Markwort will hand over the editorship as of October 1, 2010 and will be the "first journalist to fulfill his Management Board contract, which runs until December 31, 2010, with responsibility for Focus, Broadcast, Milchstrasse publishing group and Playboy." His publishing responsibilities will then be integrated into the Domestic Publishing division of the Executive Board as of January 1, 2011 and will be the responsibility of Philipp Welte. Founding editor-in-chief Helmut Markwort will remain publisher of the news magazine Focus beyond this period.

Wemf with new Product Consulting department

In October 2009, Wemf launched its Product Consulting division. Urs Renner was appointed head of the division.

Renner was a strategic consultant at Media Logics until the end of August 2009. Prior to that, he held management positions at The Media Edge and Advico Young & Rubicam.
Some of the new and proven Wemf studies require explanation, according to a press release issued on Thursday. Due to the increasing complexity of the studies, specialized know-how is required, and this can only be achieved through a considerable amount of application knowledge. "For this reason, Wemf wants to provide media companies, agencies and advertising clients with targeted advice to ensure a better overview, know-how and the associated simpler application of the data material." First of all, the company wants to develop a portfolio of services. Depending on the customer's needs, training courses, individual evaluations, analyses or even internal consulting services will then be offered.
Wemf is well positioned with its three pillars of research, circulation certification and statistics. The aim here is to maintain quality and strengthen each individual area. The Product Consulting unit is an important additional area.

13th Bern Marketing Day: "I am the brand"

On October 28, the 13th annual Bern Marketing Day (BMT) took place. Under the theme «I Am the Brand,» various speakers presented a diverse program to the approximately 530 attendees.

In keeping with proven BMT tradition, this year's event did not feature dry marketing theory, but inspiration from special personalities and practical know-how such as that of branding specialist Florian Weingärtner (Interband Munich) and Arend Hendriks (Microsoft Advertising), as detailed in a communiqué. Especially in times of financial crisis, when there are calls for moderation and more modesty, the motto of this year's BMT may have a cynical connotation. However, what the speakers and talk guests propagated and embodied across the board as the main credentials of successful ego brands was not narcissism, arrogance or blindly striving for success, but credibility, authenticity and courage.
Danuser: Against "pathological democratism"
An initial implementation of this credo was demonstrated by Hanspeter Danuser, the former spa director and world-famous ambassador of St. Moritz. His St. Moritz slogan "Top of the World" earned him various marketing prizes, but also the resistance of the Engadin people, who, according to Danuser, suffered from "pathological democratism" like the rest of Switzerland. Against this Swiss mistrust of potentially polarizing content, Danuser has built up one of the most successful tourist destinations with charm, integrity, an alphorn and a mandatory "bruuna Schtai" (tanned face). However, Danuser said that the employees who ensure that a bold brand promise is kept are crucial to any success.
Switzerland and Betty Bossy: Modesty as a strength
Danuser's immodesty seems to confirm the Swiss marketing rule as an exception. This was demonstrated by the contributions of Walter Lüthi and Federal Councillor Micheline Calmy-Rey, who had her speech read out by Presence Switzerland boss Johannes Matyassy for health reasons. The Foreign Minister cited characteristics such as direct democracy, tolerance, modesty, stability and quality awareness as the strongest Swiss brand values. Betty Bossi's unprecedented 50-year success story is also based on rock-solid Swiss values. "Betty Bossi does not polarize, it does not lecture, it is rather inconspicuous," says Betty Bossi boss Walter Lüthi. Betty Bossi has a brand awareness of 90 percent and is one of the biggest rising stars of the new millennium alongside brands such as Google and iPod. This success was achieved solely through the presence of the products and services; Betty Bossi has never done any image advertising. Surprise guest Monica Kissling described her alias "Madame Etoile", which was given to her 19 years ago by the DRS 3 editorial team, as a "nightmare for a serious astrologer". In the meantime, the rather shy media astrologer has reluctantly come to terms with her dazzling brand name.
Giacobbo and Meier: brand names with many faces
Viktor Giacobbo and Yello member Dieter Meier were invited as interview guests of presenter Röbi Koller this year. The two artists and entrepreneurs with many talents entertained with punchlines and fascinating life stories and revealed their brand essence. "Above all, satire needs a point of view, not branding," said Giacobbo. "The most important thing is credibility. Everything I have done and continue to do is a search for truth and identity. That's why people have always respected me and I wasn't afraid of falling over," said Meier.
The Bernese Talk Round was on the program for the first time this year. Adolf Ogi, Peter Burkhart alias "Mühli Pesche" (Mühle Hunziken), Nicole Loeb (Loeb AG), Max Egger (Egger Bier) and Thomas Binggeli (Thömus Veloshop) discussed life with an official or unofficial brand name.
After the successful BMT 2009, the BMT 2010 is already being planned: Under the motto "Success: One way or the other", representatives of different or even opposing recipes for success will compete against each other on November 2, 2010.
