Press Council does not act on complaint by Dignitas boss against News

The Swiss Press Council has declined to hear a complaint filed by Dignitas director Ludwig A. Minelli against the free newspaper News. It stated that proceeding with the case would not make sense, as the parties have reached an agreement.

The editorial team expressly acknowledged its mistake and apologized directly to the person concerned and also publicly, the Press Council wrote in a statement on Wednesday, according to SDA. Minelli had lodged a complaint with the Press Council against the caption "Ready to kill healthy people: Ludwig A. Minelli". He complained that it seriously violated the "Declaration of Duties and Rights of Journalists" with regard to truth and the protection of privacy.
Minelli upholds complaint
News then published a correction stating that the caption was "exaggerated and ultimately false". The newspaper apologized to Minelli. The legal department of the Tamedia publishing house also personally apologized to the head of Dignitas on behalf of the News editorial team for the "misplaced caption".
Minelli upheld the complaint because, in his opinion, the excuses for such a violation were not sufficient. The Press Council now stated that the matter was not of minor relevance. However, there was no point in carrying out a complaint procedure, as the Press Council could at most establish something that the parties agreed on anyway.

City of Berlin launches first international advertising campaign on CNN

CNN International is airing the City of Berlin's first international TV advertising campaign, a collaboration between Berlin Tourismus Marketing, Berlin Partner, and the Berlin Senate.

CNN is the only TV channel to broadcast a 30-second commercial that emphasizes Berlin as a destination with an exciting cultural and historical background and a high quality of life, according to a statement on Wednesday. The innovative location for investors is also advertised.
The month-long campaign, which starts at the beginning of November on CNN International and will be broadcast to more than 190 million households in Europe, the Middle East, Africa and Asia, includes advertising spots as well as the sponsoring of short editorial articles on the fall of the Berlin Wall.
Germany in the focus of CNN reporting
During the campaign period, the country of Germany and the city of Berlin will be the focus of CNN International's coverage to mark the anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall. In addition to broadcasting the documentary "Autumn of Change: The Wall", CNN International will be airing the programs "The Brief" with Jim Clancy and "Connect the World" with Becky Anderson live from Berlin and calling on people from all over the world to share their memories of this exciting time on Cnn.com in a major online campaign. In the short editorial contributions, international personalities such as Mikhail Gorbachev, George Bush Senior, John Malkovich and Florian Henckel von Donnersmarck also talk about their memories of the fall of the Berlin Wall.

Last but not least: Pumuckl's birth in the Swiss snow

The idea for the red-haired goblin called Pumuckl was born during the skiing vacations of its inventor Ellis Kaut in Switzerland. Her husband called her a "Pumuckl" after she threw snow at him.

According to SDA, the 88-year-old said on Wednesday in Munich at the presentation of her autobiography that the nickname had become a radio play character at Bavarian Radio, who - just like herself - was small and cheeky.
The Pumuckl stories became famous throughout the German-speaking world after their premiere on the radio in 1962 through books and several TV series. Pumuckl seems to move something that the reader immediately understands. Perhaps that you can laugh, Kaut explained the popularity of her character. The stories of Pumuckl and Meister Eder stand in contrast to today's television program. "Unfortunately, it's very stupid, you can't laugh at it."

Last but not least: Movies in principle yes, but...

With well-produced image or product videos, advertising professionals can greatly enhance a company’s website—both visually and in terms of content. But Interdiscount shows exactly how not to do it in a new video.

The idea wasn't bad at all: a promotional film should explain the advantages of the new Windows 7 operating system to the user. What could be easier than a conversation between customer and salesperson? The concept is in place, the aim is to recreate as real a consulting situation as possible in a sales outlet. Only then a few things probably went wrong. (For information: Werbewoche has no precise details of the circumstances under which the production took place. The scenario outlined is therefore purely speculative).
The text is ready, off to the nearest Interdiscount. Hiring professional actors wouldn't be a bad idea, but it's questionable whether it really comes across as authentic. It would be much easier to take two employees from the store. They might not be able to memorize the text, but the store has a teleprompter for that. Run through the scenario two or three times in the coffee room and you're ready to go. Et voilà, but see for yourself:

> About the film

But you have to give the makers credit for one thing. The video must have hit like a bomb. Or how else can you explain why the website was unavailable for hours on Tuesday?

Swiss Star: Nine packages win a trophy

This marked the 40th time that the Swiss Packaging Institute (SVI) held the Swiss Star packaging competition. The People’s Choice Award was also selected through a separate public online vote.

With 46 entries, the number of entries - despite the crisis - was above the long-term average. As usual, the judging took place in two steps. First, the jury selected 14 nominated packages and from these then nine actual annual winners, who collected the egg trophies: two sales packages and prototypes each, one shipping and one display package, one labeling system and two special awards for design.
The audience award went to the plastic can from Mopac Modern Packaging in Wasen. With the new ice cream packaging "cup and lid Emmi Crema di Latte", the company was able to convince the audience.
