SSF: Further application for connection submitted

Swiss Sports Television (SSF) is aiming for nationwide coverage in German-speaking Switzerland. SSF is seeking to ensure the broadcast of its programming by filing a “must-carry” request against 27 cable network operators.

Swiss Sports Television (SSF) has been able to broadcast on its own channel since July 1, 2009. In February 2009, the Federal Office of Communications (Bakom) approved an application to be connected to Cablecom's cable network. Previously, SSF only broadcast its programs via a program window on Star TV. As a result of Bakom's decision, Cablecom must broadcast the sports channel for the time being for three years as part of a must-carry order in the analog program offering in German-speaking Switzerland.
In a second must-carry application against a total of 27 cable network operators, the sports channel now wants to enforce broadcasting throughout German-speaking Switzerland. A few network operators have refused to include the SSF program in their analog offer, although the legal requirements are actually clear with the must-carry decision of February 2009, writes SSF in a press release on Tuesday.

Erdmannpeisker: Brand relaunch and image campaign for Bodenschatz

Erdmannpeisker has developed a new brand positioning for Bodenschatz together with Input. The traditional Swiss company is to be anchored as an accessory specialist for stylish and intelligent organization in the bathroom.

A teaser ad announced the repositioning and invited visitors to the Swissbau trade fair. The launch campaign works with mathematical formulas and emotional background images. The website was set up together with the internet agency Plugster. In addition to classic communication, Erdamannpeisker also redeveloped the corporate design. The result is a new logo, new fonts and new imagery.

In the future, technical articles from *Auto & Wissen* will be regularly available to *Autoinside* readers.

Autoinside's content covers topics relating to issues in the workshop and at management level. Technical articles geared towards training and further education, on the other hand, have only been published to a limited extent to date. From February, an article from Auto & Wissen will appear in every second issue of Autoinside. The AGVS and Auto & Wissen GmbH hope that the editorial cooperation and use of joint synergies will generate a positive response in the industry, as detailed in a press release on Monday. The AGVS association organ - with a print run of 12,500 issues in German and French - should also raise the profile of Auto & Wissen.

Wahlbistro: Virtual Wahlbistro now also available for Zurich

Starting February 1, Zurich residents will no longer be limited to discussing politics at their regular table in restaurants—they’ll also be able to do so online. The Bern-based agency Border Crossing has launched a virtual election bistro for this purpose.

The independent discussion forum enables virtual debates around the clock. Participation is free of charge. To make themselves known, candidates can post their key data and a photo on the Wahlbistro. Comments can be shared via Facebook and Twitter. In contrast to other forums or blogs, anonymous participation is not possible. Every person who registers is verified by the operators by telephone. According to the Bern PR agency, this is the only way to maintain a good discussion culture.
The debates will be moderated by Michael Hermann, Head of the Sotomo Research Center at the University of Zurich. The co-moderator is Mark Balsiger, the initiator of this non-profit project. He is the author of the book "Wahlkampf in der Schweiz" and works as a communications consultant. Both moderators are non-partisan.
The first Wahlbistro was launched in 2008 and was open in Bern and Biel/Bienne. According to Border Crossing, around 180 participants took part in "lively debates". Registration is now open. Media partners are also currently being sought.

The Kindle marketing trick: giving away "bestsellers"

To make their books popular on the Kindle e-reader, many publishers resort to a simple trick: they give the books away for free, thereby propelling them to the top of the sales charts. These free promotions are highly controversial in the publishing industry.

More than half of the "best-selling" e-books are currently available for free, writes the New York Times. In addition to older works that are no longer under copyright, there are also many new books that are available free of charge for some time. The aim is to introduce new writers to consumers free of charge so that they will then buy other books by the author. The giveaway campaigns are not universally well received. Some publishers fear that readers will soon no longer be willing to pay the usual 25 dollars for new hardcover books or 13 dollars for paperbacks, according to Pressetext.ch. By comparison, Amazon and other providers have set 9.99 dollars as the standard price for new releases and bestsellers.

In London, Baur Bättig worked in a gallery with the video artist Isaac Julien. Back in Basel, she worked for two years as a project manager at the event agency Triebwerk. In 2008, she worked as a freelance designer and cultural manager.

Last but not least: The Americans are into football - but even more into advertising

Americans are known for being big sports fans. The annual Super Bowl is considered a special spectacle. However, as market researchers from Nielson have now discovered, more than half of viewers enjoy the advertising more than the game itself!

Admittedly, at 51%, the majority is quite narrow. Nevertheless, the result should provide an explanation as to why companies are prepared to pay 2.5 to 2.8 million dollars for a 30-second spot. (By the way: last year it was even more expensive, this year the prices for ad placements have fallen - and this is only the second time in Super Bowl history).
There also seem to be certain "signs of fatigue". According to Nielsen, Super Bowl ads have the greatest impact on TV audiences in the first quarter of the game. This is when recognition and likeability ratings are at their highest. Towards the end of the game, the level approaches that of TV commercials outside of the Super Bowl. Viewers then no longer seem to find advertising all that interesting. We can, of course, speculate about the exact reasons for this advertising fatigue...
