Last but not least: How Greenpeace fights against the destruction of virgin forests via Twitter
Greenpeace broke new ground in the fight against the destruction of the primeval forest and let consumers express their displeasure against Nestlé via Twitter.
Greenpeace is at war with Nestlé. After the environmental organization had already confronted the food company with a Shock video on the subject of Kitkat, palm oil and deforestation, it is now going one better and turning consumers into web activists. Twitter messages from Germany, Austria and Switzerland were projected directly and live onto a large screen in front of Nestlé's corporate gates in Frankfurt. The messages can/could be here can be read live. The environmentalists also hung a 25×15 meter banner on the company's façade showing an orangutan being threatened with a Kitkat bar. The reason for the action: palm oil from the plantations of Indonesia's largest jungle destroyer, Sinar Mas, is still being used to manufacture Nestlé products. Although Nestlé terminated its direct contracts with Sinar Mas following Greenpeace protests in March, it continues to source the oil via intermediaries.
