Radio Argovia celebrates its anniversary

Radio Argovia is celebrating its 20th anniversary this year. The birthday party, the Radio Argovia Fäscht—which attracts over 60,000 visitors each year—will take place on June 4 and 5, 2010, at Birrfeld .

The festival concept has been revised and improved for this year's festival, but the basic idea remains the same: Attending the Argovia Fäscht is free of charge. Radio Argovia has engaged Swiss artists and bands for the open-air concerts on Saturday.
As is tradition, the Argovia birthday party begins on Friday evening with the Beizli-Fäscht. Over 80 clubs and stall holders provide food, drink and entertainment for visitors. On Saturday, the Argovia Fäscht open-air festival offers concerts with top national acts to suit all tastes. From 4.30 p.m. until after midnight, various Swiss bands and artists will be performing, which will not be revealed today.
There will be an additional stage from Coca Cola / Mycokemusic in 2010. National up-and-coming artists will be demonstrating their talent there during the breaks and entertaining visitors during the breaks. 50 extra buses from the regional transport companies will take visitors from all over the canton to the festival site in Birrfeld and back again.
The Argovia Fäscht is largely financed by sponsorship income. Brack Electronics is the presenting sponsor, and other sponsors include Green.ch, Neue Aargauer Bank, Schüwo Trink-Kultur and Emil Frey, Autocenter Safenwil, with Suzuki.

Rock out with Radio 24

On Tuesday at noon, Radio 24 launched its new web music channel. The rock channel is the first of several special-interest channels planned by the radio station. The launch was celebrated at the studio on Limmatstrasse.

Presenter Patrick Hässig talked to prominent guests about rock, next door listener Brigitte had a tattoo of the rock show "On the Rocks" and the band The Vibes played their hits. It got loud when a road crew of several people rode up to the editorial office on their motorcycles and brought the aperitif over. The invited guests all agreed: rock is a megatrend. Regula Fecker, Advertiser of the Year 2010, is also aware of this in her industry: "We all help ourselves from the rock chest. Especially now that people want to feel real emotions again. The time is definitely here."
The next channels planned are news and service channels, as well as further music channels.

Wemf: Mach Radar 2010-1 published

Wemf AG für Werbemedienforschung published the Mach Radar 2010-1 study on Tuesday. This study combines psychographic criteria with consumption and media data.

The study provides marketing experts, agencies and publishers with information on the positioning of products, brands, services, purchasing channels and print media. Mach Radar also enables target group analysis: in addition to education, income, professional status and consumer behavior, the values of consumers are also recorded. In terms of methodology, the study is based on data from Mach Basic and Mach Consumer. It is published every six months, in spring and fall.

Presse TV: New broadcasting slots bring more viewers

In 2009, the programs aired by the publisher-owned television station Presse TV attracted more viewers than in the previous year. The increase is due, in part, to the rescheduling of various programs to SF1 and SF zwei.

Under the new RTVA, Swiss television was given the opportunity to use the first channel in cooperation with private providers for program planning from 2009. Previously, private windows were not permitted on SF 1. In addition, the programs of SF 1 and SF 2 were coordinated for specific target groups. In other words, it was avoided that formats aimed at the same target audience were shown on both channels at the same time.
The strategy seems to be working: For example, since the program "Gesundheit Sprechstunde" was moved from SF zwei to SF1, ratings have risen by 22 percent to 225,000. "NZZ Format" increased by over 40 percent to 106,000 viewers after the reprogramming.

Data incomplete
These figures do not include viewers who use internet applications such as Zattoo, Wilmaa or other internet-based TV providers. Downloads via iTunes have also not been taken into account. However, it will be necessary to include these viewer figures in the surveys in future, the joint venture announced in a press release on Tuesday. The statisticians at Publica Data are currently working on the corresponding models.
The Presse TV program comprises a total of ten shows, four of which are from Ringier, three from NZZ, one from Basler Zeitung, one from Axel Springer Switzerland and one from the independent producer dctp with Alexander Kluge.

Last but not least: telenovela fans in the driver's seat

Actually, the show is great. But some of the actors really get on your nerves. And then there are scenes that no one wants to see. That’s not the case with the telenovela «Pedro & Maria.» There, fans get to have a say in how the show unfolds.

"Pedro & Maria" is the first multicultural and interactive series specifically designed and developed for the digital age. The format planned by MTV and the multimedia studio Electus is a youthful Latino romance - a kind of modern Romeo and Juliet. The only difference is that the two main characters don't have to die if the viewers don't want them to. Via digital platforms such as Facebook, Twitter and other social networks, they have the opportunity to influence the development of the characters and the plot by voting. A nice idea. But whether the viewers' input will make the telenovela worth watching remains to be seen.

Twitter with advertising in future

The ad-free era on the microblogging service Twitter is over. Going forward, companies will be able to run their ads on so-called «Promoted Tweets.» Similar to Google and other platforms, relevant ads will appear when users search for specific topics.

Among the first companies to market their products in this way are the coffee house chain Starbucks, the largest US electronics retailer Best Buy and the airline Virgin America. "The idea of 'Promoted Tweets' is to expand the communication that companies already have with their customers on Twitter," Twitter manager Dick Costolo, who is responsible for day-to-day operations, told the New York Times on Tuesday.

We-Pad: Apple gets competition

Apple's new tablet computer is facing competition. The Berlin-based company Neofonie has unveiled the WePad, a device designed to be a genuine alternative to the iPad thanks to its open platform. The project is backed by Ringier and the Hamburg-based publisher Gruner + Jahr.

The WePad not only has access to all apps. According to Neofonie, the new tablet computer will also run all Linux programs, including image editing and StarOffice. In contrast to the iPad, WePad also supports Adobe's Air technology. This should make the device particularly interesting for business customers. According to the makers, over 20,000 pre-orders have already been received. The sales launch is planned for June.
Two media partners have pledged their support for the project: The Ringier publishing group will distribute a "WeMagazine" version of Schweizer Illustrierte and Cicero, which is published in Germany, in a first wave, according to the industry service Meedia. Gruner + Jahr, publisher of Stern, has already developed a corresponding eMagazine.

Net-Metrix audit: Spring awakening in March

The majority of websites participating in the Net-Metrix Audit traffic statistics showed a strong spring surge in March. Most of the top-ten sites posted significant year-over-year growth compared to March 2009, often in the double-digit percentage range.

A total of more than 340 million visits were measured for all published websites in March. This corresponds to an increase in the volume of visits of a good 16% compared to the previous year. The traffic figures for Guide-bleu.ch, Mtv.ch and Radiomunot.ch were recorded for the first time. In total, data from 194 sites and 13 pools were published. The entire Net-Metrix-Audit publication is published on the 6th working day after the end of each month and is free of charge accessible.

Agence Trio, the agency tasked with Honda Motos' national advertising, has created a new branding campaign. The promise is to experience a sense of the open road right here, right now.

Sublime images are shown that are reminiscent of distant lands, were it not for one small detail: a western or German-Swiss element - depending on the market - that anchors the exotic scenery in local reality. The campaign, which focuses on four new models, is currently running in the national press.
