Meyer Werbung: Caritas launches "We are poor" campaign

To mark the European Year for Combating Poverty and Social Exclusion, Caritas Zurich has launched a campaign in collaboration with the advertising agency Meyer Werbung.

"Shit, my daughter has been invited to a child's birthday party again", or: "I have nothing to offer a woman. Not even a glass of wine." Sentences like these from people living in poverty will be on display in various cities in the canton of Zurich over the coming weeks and months as part of a traveling exhibition. Posters will confront the public with the fact that there are people among us who live on the breadline or even below - and also show what this means for the individual.
Caritas Zurich is carrying out further campaigns in the cities of Zurich and Winterthur. For example, a fountain is declared to be the only possibility for some people to go out for a drink. Empty wallets are also scattered around to draw attention to the fact that countless people practically never have any money in their pockets. And a buggy is used - without a child, but with an explanation as to why one is not available, namely
for budget reasons.
The traveling exhibition and the guerrilla campaign are complemented by a writing workshop for people affected by poverty. The latter is led by the writer Tania Kummer and supports socially disadvantaged people in speaking out themselves. In addition, the theater makers Peter Grünenfelder, Heiko Senst and Marcel Schwald have developed an interactive performance that not only reveals difficult stories and fates, but also uses humor and creativity to give the audience access to the topic.

Zürichsee-Zeitung remains an independent title

Theodor Gut, the publisher of Zürichsee Medien, is selling his 60 percent stake in the Zürichsee-Zeitung to the Zurich-based media group Tamedia. A contract ensures that the Zürichsee-Zeitung will remain an independent publication.

Gut said this on Thursday according to SDA. With the stake taken over from NZZ, Tamedia now holds 100 percent of the Zürichsee-Zeitung. This is the better way for all three parties, Gut continued at the request of the news agency. More sensible journalistic structures would now be created. Continuity is of the utmost importance. The Zürichsee-Zeitung will continue to play to its editorial strengths, particularly in the local area.
Tamedia has ensured that the Zürichsee-Zeitung will remain an independent title. This is also shown by the fact that he himself remains the publisher. In addition to continuing as an independent title, Gut cited another reason for the sale: he is now 62 years old and has no successor in the family. According to Gut, the Zürcher Landzeitungen must "work better" in the future. He therefore does not rule out job cuts. However, Gut was unable to say to what extent.
In addition to the Zürichsee-Zeitung, the printing center in Oetwil am See is also going to Tamedia. This means a total of 120 jobs. However, the sale does not affect the rest of Zürichsee Medien, including Radio Zürisee. Around 100 jobs will remain at Zürichsee Medien.

By bundling all digital distribution channels, the Blick Group's online presence, technology, partnerships, apps and new media will be managed centrally, as Ringier wrote in a press release on Thursday.

Photopress becomes PPR Media Relations

Photopress is rebranding and will now operate under the name PPR Media Relations. The PR agency is adopting a new brand strategy. The new concept is based on three service areas.

The Keystone subsidiary Photopress has been offering services in the areas of image production, image storage and image distribution for many years. As part of the further development of the company and its employees, but also to take account of the changes and dynamics in the communications industry, the company is repositioning itself, according to a press release issued on Thursday. With immediate effect, the agency will operate under the name PPR Media Relations. The PR agency's new service concept is based on three different service areas: Photopress, Brand PR and People PR.
Photopress: The Photopress service division continues to specialize in image production, image storage and image distribution. The multimedia content platform www.photopress.ch will continue to exist.
Brand PR: The Brand PR department supports national and international companies in all PR matters. The creation of media documentation and the production of the associated imagery are just as much a part of the range of services as the conception and implementation of PR action plans.
People-PR: The People PR service includes advising private individuals on their personal communications work.

Affichage Group: Reorganization of the management structure

Affichage's Board of Directors has decided to reorganize the Group's management structure. The Board of Directors will now consist of five members instead of ten. In addition, the CEO's succession will be finalized by the end of 2010.

At its meeting on 14 April 2010, the Board of Directors of Affichage Holding SA took the decision to reorganize the Group's management structure, as the company announced on Thursday. The Board of Directors now consists of five instead of ten members. The succession of the CEO will also be regulated until the end of 2010. These measures will strengthen the Group's effectiveness in view of the current challenges.
At the forthcoming Annual General Meeting on May 26, 2010, the Board of Directors will therefore propose to shareholders that the company's Articles of Association be amended to reduce the number of members of the Board of Directors from the current maximum of ten to a new maximum of five. In future, the Board of Directors will consist of Paul-Henry Binz, Jean-François Decaux, Klaus Hug, Gilles Samyn and Markus Scheidegger. The main shareholders will thus assume greater responsibility. Georges Gagnebin, Gérard Degonse, Christian Kauter and Jean-Claude Marchand are resigning their mandates. In addition, Carlo Schmid-Sutter's term of office as a member of the Board of Directors is coming to an end. He will not stand for re-election at the Annual General Meeting on May 26, 2010. Jean-François Decaux is to become Chairman of the Board of Directors, while Paul-Henry Binz will continue to serve as Vice Chairman. As soon as his successor has been appointed and confirmed by the Board of Directors, Christian Kauter will step down as CEO as planned. This change of personnel should take place by the end of 2010 at the latest.
According to the press release, the Board of Directors is of the opinion that the reorganization of the Group's management structure will give it the necessary flexibility to hold its own in the current difficult economic environment and that it will also facilitate the upcoming strategic decisions at Group level. This will provide the necessary dynamism in an advertising market that is undergoing radical change.

Tamedia with significant decline in sales

Tamedia reported a significant decline in revenue in 2009. The media company attributes the decline almost exclusively to lower advertising revenue.

However, thanks to the positive development of the magazines and online media as well as various cost-cutting measures, Tamedia achieved a satisfactory result last year, the Group wrote in a press release on Thursday.
Sales totaled CHF 766 million, which is CHF 124.1 million less than in the previous year. At the bottom line, Tamedia still earned 46.7 million francs. The commuter newspaper L'essentiel, the online platforms Homegate.ch, Tilllate.ch, Search.ch and Newsnetz made a positive contribution to the revenue development, as Tamedia announced on Thursday.
Berner Zeitung, Sonntagszeitung and the Tages-Anzeiger job supplements recorded significant sales losses. The cost-cutting measures taken in the course of the year did not take effect until the end of 2009, according to the report. Thanks to online portals, however, the Electronic Media division is growing.

JWT+H+F: Musical "Die Schweizermacher" promoted with teaser campaign

«Die Schweizermacher» is coming to the stage as a musical. The agency JWT+H+F has created a teaser campaign for it.

In 1978, Rolf Lyssy's film "Die Schweizermacher" (The Swiss Makers) caused a resounding box office hit and heated discussions at the regulars' tables. Now the successful Swiss film is coming to the stage as a musical. From 16 September, the well-known story of the Swiss naturalization process will be told in the Maag Music Hall.
To ensure that all eyes are already on this spectacular new edition, the Zurich agency JWT+H+F has developed a teaser campaign. For over a month now, a mysterious pair of eyes with Swiss cross pupils have been peering out from billboards and guerrilla stickers. Several media outlets, including Werbewoche.ch, have been puzzling over who is behind the campaign. The solution is now being revealed on posters and advertisements throughout Switzerland. It has suddenly become clear that the Swiss Confederation has a particular focus on those seeking naturalization. Further measures are planned before the premiere of the musical.
Responsible at MMH Maag Music Hall: Darko Soolfrank (Producer), Christoph Rüdt (Marketing + Communication). Responsible at JWT+H+F: Remy Fabrikant (overall responsibility), Grischa Rubinick, Enrico Bachmann (CD), Anna Kindlimann, Florian Schilling (graphics), Jennifer Rimann (consulting), Rainer Bühler (strategy), Victoria Iwaszkowska (DTP).

FPH takes over Thurgauer Zeitung - Tamedia buys Zurich regional newspaper holdings

The Thurgauer Zeitung is being transferred from Tamedia to FPH Freie Presse Holding, a subsidiary of the NZZ Media Group. The Thurgauer Zeitung will expand the St. Galler Tagblatt's network of newspapers.

The media companies NZZ Media Group and Tamedia have agreed to swap their regional newspaper holdings in the cantons of Thurgau and Zurich. The Gut publishing family and FPH Freie Presse Holding are selling their stakes in the Zurich regional newspapers Zürcher Unterländer, Zürichsee Zeitung and Zürcher Oberländer to Tamedia. Tamedia would like to continue to operate the Zürcher Landzeitungen as independent regional newspapers. These steps are intended to create more advantageous economic prospects for the daily newspapers involved. For the canton of Thurgau, this cooperation will create a strong voice on an economically sustainable basis.
Thurgauer Zeitung expands Tagblatt newspaper network
Tamedia is ceding its 100 percent stake in Huber & Co., the publisher of the Thurgauer Zeitung, to FPH Freie Presse Holding AG, a subsidiary of the NZZ media group. Thurgauer Zeitung will be integrated into Tagblatt Medien from the beginning of 2011. Thurgauer Zeitung thus expands the leading newspaper network in Eastern Switzerland with the titles St. Galler Tagblatt, Tagblatt für den Kanton Thurgau, Appenzeller Zeitung, Toggenburger Tagblatt, Wiler Zeitung and Der Rheintaler. The combination of the Thurgauer Zeitung with the Thurgau edition of the Tagblatt thus creates a journalistically strong and economically viable voice for the whole of Thurgau. Printing and production of the Thurgauer Zeitung will move to the Tagblatt Medien newspaper printing center in St. Gallen at the beginning of 2011.
The newspaper group Nordostschweiz, which was founded in 2006 and includes the Thurgauer Zeitung, the Winterthurer Landbote and the Schaffhauser Nachrichten, will continue until the end of 2010. After that, the publishing and newspaper operations combined in Huber & Co. AG for the Thurgauer Zeitung and the Winterthurer Landbote will be returned to the respective newspapers. Over the next few weeks, Tamedia will enter into talks with Ziegler Druck und Verlags AG, the publisher of the Landbote, about future cooperation. From Tamedia's point of view, the focus will be on a partnership between the Landbote and the Zürcher Landzeitungen.
Gut publishing family and FPH sell rural newspapers to Tamedia
The Gut publishing family, the majority shareholder of Zürichsee Zeitung, and the NZZ subsidiary FPH Freie Presse Holding AG are ceding their shareholdings in the Zurich regional newspapers to Tamedia. Tamedia is taking over 60 percent of Zürichsee Presse AG, the publisher of the Zürichsee newspapers, from the Gut family and their holding company Zürichsee Medien AG. The Gut family of publishers is thus arranging its succession planning at Zürichsee Medien AG and the future of Zürichsee Zeitung. Theodor Gut will remain publisher of Zürichsee Zeitung. Tamedia will acquire the remaining 40 percent of the shares from the NZZ subsidiary FPH Freie Presse Holding AG.
FPH Freie Presse Holding AG is also transferring its 100 percent stake in Zürcher Unterland Medien AG and its 38 percent stake in Zürcher Oberland Medien AG to Tamedia. As a result of the investments in the three regional media companies, Tamedia will now indirectly hold a stake in the newspaper printing center DZO Druck in Oetwil am See. At the same time as the regional newspapers Zürcher Unterländer and Zürichsee Zeitung, several advertisers will also be transferred to Tamedia.
Opportunity to strengthen the Zurich newspaper market
Tamedia would like to continue the Zurich regional newspapers as independent regional newspapers. The prerequisite for this is a significant improvement in earnings through cost savings and increased sales. The bundling of the Zürcher Unterländer, the Zürichsee Zeitung and the Tages-Anzeiger under a common corporate umbrella offers good conditions for this. In the coming months, possible prospects in purchasing, printing, logistics, editing, publishing, marketing and prepress will be examined in discussions with the partners Publicitas, Ziegler Druck und Verlags AG and Zürcher Oberländer.

IAB Switzerland adopts standards for online advertising

Over the past few months, the «Standards» working group of the Interactive Advertising Bureau Switzerland (IAB) has developed recommendations for the delivery of online advertising materials and the use of online video ads.

This will simplify the planning and implementation of online advertising campaigns in future, according to a press release issued on Thursday. The new standards, which were unanimously approved by the IAB Board of Directors, are now an urgent recommendation for all market participants. They are available at Iabswitzerland.ch viewable.
The new standards address two central issues: The delivery of campaigns and advertising media and the use of online video ads - i.e. moving image advertising. For delivery, there are now general guidelines for organizational elements such as campaign information or lead time. In addition, there are precise specifications for advertising media, their elements, technical implementation and linking. This serves to simplify the planning and implementation of online advertising campaigns as well as quality assurance.
Online video ads are particularly central to the online advertising market, the report continues; they have great creative potential, are well accepted by users and are increasingly being used thanks to high bandwidths. The IAB has defined terms and set guidelines for the length and format of online video advertising. This is based on empirical values and international studies that show, for example, the optimal advertising impact of commercials with a maximum length of 20 seconds. The IAB now distinguishes between in-page and in-stream video ads. In-page video ads are moving image ads in standard advertising media such as rectangles, which are placed on websites. In-stream video ads, on the other hand, run before, between, after or above an existing video content or video stream (pre-roll, mid-roll, post-roll and layer). Special formats and video ads are very much in vogue. With the new standards, campaigns can now be planned faster and more efficiently. They also ensure correct and problem-free delivery and performance measurement.
