Gérald Lechault, Managing Director of Imprimeries Réunies Lausanne (IRL), a subsidiary of Swiss Printers, is leaving the company. He will take over the management of CIE (Centre d'Impression Edipresse) in Bussigny on September 1. Until then, Lechault will continue to manage the company's business.

Since 1995, he has managed IRL, which belonged to the French-speaking Swiss media group Edipresse until it joined the Swissprinters Group in 2006. The search for a new managing director has already begun, Swiss Printers announced on Tuesday. The successor will be announced in due course.

Facebook: Expansion à la Google

Following the launch of «Facebook Connect,» the social network is continuing to expand its infrastructure offerings for external websites. In the future, website operators will also be able to integrate Facebook’s «Like» button into their sites.

By clicking on the "Like" button, Facebook users can praise all kinds of things - photos, texts, comments from others and links to websites. Now the recommendation function will soon also be available on external sites. The new service will be presented this week at the Facebook developer conference F8, reported Der Spiegel, citing the New York Times and the Financial Times. The Facebook deal is likely to be very similar to the one with Google for content providers: The providers get more attention through the recommendations. In return, Facebook gains new insights into the interests of its members. This is likely to be material for an advertising network.
Facebook's competitors are concerned about the spread of the network's interfaces on the web. Google, Microsoft, Yahoo and some other providers support a new standard called XAuth, which website providers can use in a similar way to Facebook Connect.

Radio Liechtenstein with a loss of 125,000 francs

Radio Liechtenstein is suffering from a sharp decline in advertising revenue. The public broadcaster reported a loss of 125,000 francs in its 2009 financial statements.

A balanced result was not achieved, even though expenditure fell short of the budget, as the government in Vaduz, which took note of the report on broadcasting operations, announced on Tuesday. For the current year, the sponsoring company, Liechtensteinischer Rundfunk, expects advertising revenue to fall by up to twelve percent compared to the budgeted revenue for 2009. The state-subsidized radio station has around 50,000 listeners. According to a Radiocontrol survey, an average of around 13,800 listeners in Liechtenstein listen to Radio Liechtenstein every day, and an average of around 24,500 people in neighboring Switzerland.

Last but not least: Toyota inspires with Kamasutra

The Blick paper makers have pulled off a coup. On pages six and seven of Tuesday's edition, everything simply fits together. Switzerland is on the move. Toyota tests the Prius and is enthusiastic about the technology. And ex-Miss Switzerland Toyloy tries out techniques from the teachings of the Kama Sutra.

On the left-hand side, the vehicle manufacturer advertises the Toyota Prius with a publicity report. At the top is the title "Technology that inspires". If you swipe over from the reportage to the right-hand page at title level, you can read the following title: "We try everything from the Kama Sutra". A quote from a Schweizer Illustrierte interview with former Miss Switzerland Whitney Toyloy and her boyfriend. That puts the title from the publicity report in a completely different light! And then there is a small advertisement at the bottom of the page. The illustrations accompanying the interview threaten to make it disappear. But a closer look reveals that the ad fits in perfectly with the rest. Under the title "Switzerland is on the move", Coop calls for sporting activity. What more could you want? This technology is inspiring!

Wemf: Advertisements up again for the first time in almost two years

For the first time since April 2008, advertising volume in the Swiss press has increased again. In March 2010, advertising revenue rose by 2.9 percent year-over-year to 162.5 million francs. With the exception of Sunday newspapers and trade publications, all print media categories benefited from the higher volume of advertisements.

The situation on the advertising market eased considerably in March. In January, the decline was still 16.5 percent, in February it was 1.5 percent. In the first three months of the current year, advertising revenue therefore amounted to CHF 382.2 million. This corresponds to a decline of 4.3 percent compared to the same quarter of the previous year, as announced by Wemf AG für Werbemedienforschung on Tuesday.
Job advertisements continued to decline in March. They fell by 7.8 percent to 14.8 million francs. There was a sharp drop in real estate advertisements. The decline here amounted to 12.8 percent to 5.5 million
francs. The situation is much better for commercial advertising. The increase amounted to 5.2 percent to 127.6 million francs. Brochure inserts also recorded an increase. This income rose by 2.7 percent to CHF 14.5 million.
All print media categories benefited from the higher advertising volume, with the exception of the Sunday press (-12.0%) and the trade press (-8.3%). The regional weekly press recorded the highest increase at 16.8%, followed by the financial and business press (+8.5%) and the daily press and general press (+6% each).

Versial: Language adaptation - against intercultural misunderstandings

Versial specializes in the intercultural adaptation of texts. We adapt and edit texts from Swiss High German into High German and vice versa.

The language specialists want to help companies establish themselves with the right words in the respective neighboring country. The Swiss and Germans do not always speak the same language, Versial explains its service. It is the small hurdles such as different forms of greeting, e-mail habits or different vocabulary that make communication with each other more difficult. The service also offers the adaptation of texts from French into Swiss French.

Lucerne Tourism: So far away and yet so close

Lucerne Tourism has launched a new branding campaign. The campaign promotes the Lucerne-Lake Lucerne region as a destination that sparks wanderlust. The campaign was conceived and executed by the Lucerne-based agency Schmid Riedmann & Partner.

As part of the campaign, around 43 advertisements with ten different subjects will be placed in magazines in German-speaking and French-speaking Switzerland between April 21 and May 2. "We want to show with the various subjects from the region that we can fulfill many vacation wishes that can be found very close by," says Tourism Director Marcel Perren. Behind La Scala in Milan is the concert hall of the KKL Lucerne, Lago di Garda turns out to be the Weggis/Vitznau/Rigi vacation region and the three islands surrounded by turquoise water are not in the Maldives, but the Lorelei bathing islands in Lake Uri. The destinations behind the supposed wanderlust destinations can be seen on the online portal. You can also take part in an online competition.

SRG "super director": Edipresse boss Adler resigns

Tibère Adler is no longer in the running for the position of SRG Director General. Edipresse CEO Tibère Adler, who was considered the front-runner, cited personal and professional reasons for his withdrawal.

He is no longer in the running, the 47-year-old ex-professional basketball player told the Sonntagszeitung. Adler said he had been contacted "several months ago" by SRG board chairman Jean-Bernard Münch. However, he did not want to comment on Adler's withdrawal or the status of the proceedings. Previously, former Federal Councillor Ruth Metzler had already announced that she was not a candidate. According to the Sonntagszeitung, Publigroupe CEO Hans-Peter Rohner and FDP National Councilor and media entrepreneur Filippo Leutenegger remain in the running.

JvM/Limmat: The Hug brothers shake a leg

Hug Guezli has launched a new line of cookies based on traditional Swiss recipes. To promote the new addition to its product line, Jung von Matt/Limmat has cast the Hug brothers as the stars of the campaign—and as dancers.

A commercial shows Werner and Andreas experimenting in their bakery. Werner reaches for a biscuit and examines it with a scrutinizing look. Suddenly he starts to dance. His brother Andreas joins in. Together they dance in a musical journey back in time to the good old days. From krumping to hip-hop, from Michael Jackson's moonwalk to the legendary Charleston, the brothers have mastered every dance style. Their journey ends in the 1920s.

Last but not least: Volcano gives the Friends a hard time

Actually, the commercial that the Hamburg-based agency Scholz & Friends recently produced for Siemens is harmless—if it weren't for Eyjafjallajökull. The Icelandic volcano threw a wrench in the advertisers' plans.

Due to the effects of the volcanic eruption, the latest Scholz & Friends commercial is attracting more attention than the Friends would like. The context: the commercial begins with a volcano spewing ash. The film also provides the solution to the problem: simply vacuum up everything with the new vacuum cleaner from Siemens. Actually funny, isn't it? But Eyjafjallajökul is now the advertisers' undoing. The commercial is cynical, they say. But honestly, nobody could have guessed that the Icelandic volcano would paralyze half of Europe. Unfortunate coincidence?
