With the cowbell on the iPhone at the World Cup

On Emotion developed the iPhone app «Chue Glöggli» for Clockwise in time for the World Cup. With it, Switzerland literally has its cowbells in its pocket.

It all started with a crazy idea. We could bring the cowbell to the iPhone for the World Cup, said some colleagues at a picnic next to the cow pasture, so that the Swiss would have their "Chue Glogge" with them at all times during the Swiss World Cup games. Within a short space of time, a concept was developed, a bell manufacturer was sought and a suitable implementation partner was found in the form of Goldbach Media On Emotion. The application can now be found in the App Store on iTunes under the name "Chue Glöggli".
In addition to the classic bells and bells, the app also offers an additional function for Swiss World Cup fans: a portrait can be taken using the iPhone's camera, which appears in front of a typical Swiss backdrop at the touch of a button. There are various motifs to choose from, from a mountain goat to a goat, and the picture can be saved in an album and sent later. When the picture is taken, a moo, a moo or even a whoop can be heard in true Swiss style.

Last but not least: Going shopping with a teabag

Printing brand logos and advertisements on shopping bags has long been a common practice. An agency in Saudi Arabia has now given this promotional item a new look: the shape of a tea bag.

The shopping bag was made in the shape of a Lipton green tea bag. With a one pack of Lipton Clear Green Tea, the giveaway was distributed to the women in the stores.
The agency responsible for the campaign, which took place in May, is DDB Integrated in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.

War for Talents: The Employer Brand

Branders has developed an employer branding strategy for PostFinance.

The core task of employer branding is the strategic and long-term positioning of a company as an attractive employer - both to potential and existing employees. This is not primarily about designing new job advertisements, but rather about developing a strategically sound employer brand.
Swiss Post has undergone a major transformation in recent years and offers its employees far more than is generally known. With over 58,000 employees from around 100 nations and more than 100 professions, the company has long since ceased to be a "dusty postal monopolist" and is now an international company with innovative solutions along the entire value chain. As a result, the tasks and development opportunities have become correspondingly diverse and even more challenging. PostFinance has developed particularly dynamically within the Group to become an important subsidiary with a strong performance brand.
The new financial services company has increasingly emerged as an attractive alternative in the market during the general banking crisis, now offers its customers a comprehensive service in the area of finance and has ambitious goals. Its employees must be suitably qualified to ensure that PostFinance can continue to grow successfully in the future. The fast-growing company already employs around 3,600 people, and around 180 new jobs will be created every year. In order to fill these positions in the "war for talent", the employer must position itself attractively and successfully differentiate itself from its competitors. Branders developed the new employer brand with PostFinance around this process: from the analysis to the positioning to the labor market appearance.
PostFinance as an employer differentiates itself through three core promises: its attitude, its success and its culture. As an employer that "understands that demanding also means encouraging," as Sabine Zeilinger, Head of Public Relations at PostFinance, explains, the company offers diverse development prospects and attractive personnel conditions. The company's shared success is based on the combination of performance and passion and an understanding of service that is lived out as a personal attitude. "The employer's unique culture is shaped by the personality of its employees, who are personally committed to making a difference together," says Strategy Director Pascal Geissbühler, summarizing Branders' analysis. Employer branding now conveys the essence of this positioning with the employer promise "Inspire together".
A new image concept is to make the positioning tangible. The focus is on committed employees captured in everyday situations. The spontaneous snapshots convey the employer brand's attitude to life and differentiate it from conventional image worlds. The images and messages are geared to specific target groups in order to appeal specifically to potential employees.
The presence will be experienced in the labor market across the entire experience chain: initially via job and image ads, by fall via the Jobs web portal, and in the long term in testimonials, various brochures, via recruitment campaigns, and social media platforms. The goal is to provide potential and existing employees with a consistent employer experience throughout the entire process - from job search to application to employment. Branders and PostFinance expect the entire experience chain to take around two to three years to standardize. Andreas Panzeri

Pass it on!

Word-of-mouth marketing isn’t on everyone’s lips just yet, but it’s gaining momentum. After all, a good recommendation from a friend is a stronger incentive to buy than even the funniest poster or the best promotion. Specialized agencies know how to get word-of-mouth marketing rolling.

What do you do when you can't decide where to go on your next trip? You ask a good colleague if they can recommend a destination. And if you don't know whether your next camera should be a Canon or a Nikon? Then ask someone in the know if they can recommend one of the two. It's simple. A study by Nielsen in 47 countries shows that 78 percent of consumers trust the recommendations of other consumers. And if you don't know anyone who can give you a good tip? Then ask a buzzer.
Buzzers are people like you and me who test products and share their opinions about them. Opinion does not mean adulation as in undercover marketing in blogs, but honestly: What is good? What is bad? What could be done better? The buzzers don't get paid for their ratings. This guarantees unbiased statements. However, the testers have the privilege of scrutinizing products and services that are not yet on the market. This allows them to help improve the product if necessary. In addition, their opinion is in demand, and that is always a good feeling. Because opinion is power.

JvM/Limmat for Swisscom: Let Einstein and Co. explain the mobile Internet

The campaign aims to show that the mobile internet is particularly easy to use via apps. The applications are therefore at the heart of the communication alongside the end devices. The testimonials used were historical personalities whose pioneering work would be child's play today with the help of the mobile internet. In the copy, the apps and their functions are presented to the reader from the point of view of the personalities and their use is explained. Mahatma Gandhi, Christopher Columbus, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and Giacomo Casanova, among others, explain the mobile Internet. The motifs have been on air throughout Switzerland as advertisements, posters, at the POS and as Internet banners since the end of May.

Press Council: Too many details published about alleged murderer

The fact that a suspected murderer is a well-known scientist does not exempt the media from exercising the utmost restraint in their reporting. The Press Council stated this in a ruling on a complaint against the French-Swiss newspapers *24 heures* and *Le Matin*, which was partially upheld.

The two media outlets had published private information about a suspected perpetrator in a disproportionate manner, according to the Press Council's decision, which was published on Tuesday. It concerned the reports "Le meurtrier présumé est un chercheur de renom" by 24 heures and "Le suspect est un célèbre généticien" by Le Matin. It is true that in this particular case, the family connection between the victim and the accused meant that the people involved were recognizable from the outset beyond their immediate social and family environment. Nevertheless, the panel found that the two newspapers should not have published all the information about the accused.
The Press Council argues that each additional piece of information increases the circle of people who can identify a suspect. Even if some of the readership could recognize the suspected perpetrator anyway, the two newspapers would have been obliged to carefully weigh up the public interest in publication against the protection of privacy for each element of information.

Soccer World Cup: SF can't fight vuvuzela noise

Swiss television has received hundreds of complaints about the vuvuzela noise during the World Cup. The network is trying to filter out the constant hum of the African horns—but has to disappoint viewers.

"Unfortunately, we can't filter out the humming completely," said SF spokesman Marco Meroni on Tuesday at the request of SDA. It might be possible to tone it down a little, but we won't be able to achieve the quality of a Champions League match. At 120 decibels, the roar is simply too loud for that. The problem lies in the fact that the buzzing sound reaches the viewer via two channels: On the one hand via the world signal, which is made available to the whole world by broadcaster HBS, and on the other via the commentators' microphones.
Unfortunately, the commentators' booths are by no means soundproof. The buzzing, as if from a beehive, gets directly into the microphone and onto the transmitter. "We are currently trying to see if we can achieve something with other microphones." An analysis of the sound has also been carried out and it is being examined whether active filters could be used to eliminate the annoying buzzing sound. Swiss Television will implement any findings as quickly as possible, said Meroni. They are doing what they can, but "we probably won't be able to do it."

Last but not least: The hamsters are back at the start

The automaker Kia Motors America is continuing its hamster campaign. In the TV commercial, the iconic hip-hop hamsters are causing a stir in Harlem and driving around in their Kia Soul.

Just like you see in gangster movies or hip-hop videos. The only difference: the three main protagonists are cute rodents. And instead of driving through the neighborhood in a lowrider cart or a snobbish Hummer, the "Hamstars" show off in their Kia Soul. The audience can choose between a Kia Soul, a toaster, a cardboard box or a washing machine. Turn up the sound and enjoy!

Startbahnwest honored at the advertising congress

Under the theme «Testfeld Zukunft,» the 19th Advertising Congress—the largest German-language event for young professionals in the communications industry—took place in Berlin from June 10 to 12, 2010. Startbahnwest was the only advertising agency from Switzerland to participate. And it won the 2010 Communications Award for the best overall concept (best strategy and best creative work).

In the run-up to the advertising congress, 200 students were selected by means of an idea test. On the first two days, the participants developed communication concepts under the guidance of an agency. This year it was for an online platform of the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung. After intensive days of brainstorming, research, strategy and creative approaches, the campaign ideas were presented on the third day and evaluated by a panel of experts. The following awards were presented: Best Overall Concept, Best Creation, Best Strategy and Best Copy Test.
