IPM and Adlink Media: Wilmaa users surveyed

To better understand Internet TV users, Wilmaa conducted a survey in March 2010 with the support of IP Multimedia Schweiz and Adlink Media. According to the survey, Internet TV is used primarily when the regular TV set is already in use. Furthermore, one in five Wilmaa users does not even have a TV set at home.

The questions were put to the user as a channel switch ad. A total of almost 4,000 users were surveyed in March 2010. According to the survey, 2,871 users are aged between 15 and 49 and live in German-speaking Switzerland. Almost half of them (46.2%) mainly watch Internet TV when their normal TV set is already occupied by another person. Respondents often have to switch to Internet TV: Two out of five people watch Wilmaa daily or almost daily because of this. One in five 15-49 year olds (19.5 percent) do not have a TV set at home and use internet TV such as Wilmaa permanently as an alternative, while a further eight percent do not have a TV set at their second home and therefore watch Wilmaa.
The Internet TV platform Wilmaa is marketed by the two Goldbach subsidiaries Adlink Media and IP Multimedia.

Gaddafi affair: Police photos on the news network for a short time

Late Monday morning, the online news portal Tagesanzeiger.ch/Newsnetz published the police photos of Hannibal Gaddafi. The photos had been printed in the Geneva daily Tribune de Genève following Gaddafi’s arrest last September.

A Geneva court ruled on April 12 that the publication had violated Gaddafi's personality. The newspaper was ordered to publish the judgment. On Monday, the Tribune article, including police photos, was clearly visible again for a good hour on the online portal Newsnetz. Gaddafi's likeness was then made unrecognizable.
As editor-in-chief Peter Wälty told the news agency SDA on request, the image served as the basis for the corresponding article. The picture merely illustrates an article "that deals with the topic of press freedom and the protection of sources." However, Wälty does not believe that the publication will have any legal consequences. "We didn't show the pictures", emphasized the editor-in-chief, but "the reporting in its entirety". The Tribune de Genève had already mistakenly published a facsimile of the disputed article on its website for a short time on Sunday. For half an hour, the newspaper illustrated an article by the French news agency AFP.

Zurich goes out again

The latest issue of the Zurich nightlife guide *Zürich geht aus!* 2010/11 comes out on Tuesday. Over the course of a year, Editor-in-Chief Wolfram Meister and his team re-evaluated hundreds of venues in and around Zurich. 222 made it into the new magazine, 61 of them for the first time.

As in last year's issue, the restaurants are grouped by type and location. Pictures and information complement the articles, in which the gourmet professionals write about what was served where and how last year. A list of the best restaurants, an A-Z index and culinary interviews and reports round off the overall impression.

Last but not least: Star TV, a blessing for all football-stricken women

The World Cup is the ultimate media spectacle. One bold Swiss TV station is standing up to this craze: Star TV has declared itself a «World Cup-free zone» and is offering an alternative lineup for all women fed up with soccer.

Paul Grau, owner and managing director of Star TV, is convinced that there are only two ways for a television station to make a name for itself during the World Cup: either with excellent, seamless coverage of the major event or with clear counter-programming. The Swiss private broadcaster has opted for the second strategy: from June 11 to July 11, Star TV will be broadcasting background reports on what it describes as "the most popular films for women" during prime time. Courageous! The battle for the remote control has begun...

Here is the alternative program:

SRG director with 27,000 francs more salary in 2009 than in the previous year

According to the annual report, SRG Director Armin Walpen earned CHF 576,000 last year. This is CHF 27,000 more than in the previous year and the largest salary increase in the last seven years.

As the Sonntagzeigung writes in its current edition, Walpen received a salary increase of CHF 12,000 compared to the previous year, as well as a CHF 103,000 "performance share", which is CHF 5,000 higher. In addition, a total of CHF 10,000 was added for fees and pensions. According to the Sonntagszeitung, spokesman Daniel Steiner says that the performance-related pay was higher due to "better target management than in the previous year".
But now the SRG is to put an end to higher wages: in 2010, the Director General will not receive a single centime pay rise either, Steiner is quoted as saying in the Sunday publication. This pay freeze for the entire SRG is part of the cost-cutting measures decided by the Board of Directors last year.
