TBS Identity for the Lucerne Theater: Through the season with quotes

The Zurich-based agency TBS Identity has created new visuals for the Lucerne Theater that are intended both to promote upcoming premieres and to contribute to the theater’s identity as part of a campaign spanning the entire season.

"What do you think about falling in love?" This is how Lucerne residents are currently being addressed in large letters on the street. Another poster speaks indignantly from the poster site: "I'm not a real pig." And yet other subjects make mysterious and poetic proclamations: "By the way, Bindschädler, there must be November light over the brain forest in the evening."

The poster series with quotes taken from the advertised pieces was designed and implemented by TBS Identity. The bold, black and white posters are intended to stand out from the colorful randomness of our visually flooded world, the agency writes in a press release.

Responsible at the Lucerne Theater; Dominique Mentha (Director), Martin Windolph, (Head of Public Relations). Responsible at TBS Identity, Zurich: Michael Schädelin (concept/consulting), Daniel Leber (CD), Yvonne Pfister (project management), Nadia Ermert (polygraphy).

Opfikon: Voters must vote on "SVP-Anzeiger"

The voters of Opfikon ZH will definitely have to vote on their future official gazette. The referendum of the SP, which opposes the feared "SVP-Anzeiger", has been successful.

Of the 412 signatures submitted, 398 are valid, as the city announced on Wednesday according to SDA. The referendum is scheduled for May 15. With its referendum, the SP wants to prevent the Stadt-Anzeiger from remaining the official gazette of Opfikon for another four years.

The resistance was triggered by the Sale of the sheet to SVP Vice President and car importer Walter Frey, who already publishes five neighborhood newspapers in the Zurich region under the umbrella of his company Lokalinfo. The SP now fears that the Stadt-Anzeiger will develop into an "SVP-Anzeiger" under the new owner. It would be naïve to believe that Walter Frey is only buying newspapers throughout the canton of Zurich for purely financial reasons.

City council does not share concerns

If the referendum is accepted by the electorate, there are two possible solutions for the SP: either the city looks for a new provider for the official publications. Or the newspaper would have to be sold on to an owner who is independent of party politics. The Opfikon municipal council does not share the SP's concerns: in December, it gave its approval for the Stadt-Anzeiger to remain the official gazette of the city of Opfikon for another four years.

The paper has a circulation of 1,800 copies and is published once a week. Once a month, the newspaper is distributed to all households as a large print run. Former publisher Theophil Maag retired for reasons of age.

Last but not least: No one is too small to be a computer geek

Times are changing—no question about it. But a recent study by the internet security firm AVG makes it clear once again that they’re changing more than just a little.

More than twice as many young children are better at using smartphone apps than shoelaces. One in six can use an iPhone app. And 44 percent of toddlers know how to play a computer game - only 43 percent can ride a bike. A whopping 69% can use a mouse, 63% can switch on a PC and one in four can open a web browser. In contrast, only one in five can swim or make an emergency call. As I said, times are changing. And that's a good thing. Nevertheless, the results of the study are astonishing - because the children surveyed indirectly via their mothers are not five or six years old, no, the smartphone pros and computer cracks have just two or three years under their belts ...

Google creates jobs - Yahoo cuts staff

Internet giant Google plans to hire at least 6,000 new people worldwide this year - a new record according to the company. Yahoo, on the other hand, is cutting 140 jobs.

Last year 4500 new employees were already added, but 2011 will be "the year of the most new hires in the company's history". "We will hire as many smart and creative people as we can," explained Google manager Alan Eustace.

Competitor Yahoo, on the other hand, is continuing to cut jobs: Around 140 employees, around one percent of the workforce, will have to go, as company boss Carole Bartz announced on Tuesday (local time). The turnover of the former Internet pioneer is declining.

Google is looking for new employees for "some of the most difficult challenges in computer science", wrote manager Eustace in the company blog, according to SDA. The new employees would work in small groups - "really like start-up companies". Google currently employs 24,400 people. In the crisis year of 2009, the company laid off employees for the first time ever, but hired new people again in 2010. In the meantime, Google is fighting against the exodus of employees: in November, the company increased salaries by a whopping ten percent after around 200 employees moved to its up-and-coming competitor Facebook. Google can afford the new hires: last year, the company made a profit of more than 8.5 billion dollars and had more than 13 billion dollars in its coffers at the end of 2010. Turnover reached almost 30 billion dollars.

Yahoo with decline in sales

Yahoo, on the other hand, was unable to increase its turnover, which fell by two percent in 2010. In the fourth quarter, Yahoo even recorded a drop of twelve percent - and sales are not expected to grow at the beginning of the year either. However, profits more than doubled to 1.231 billion dollars last year. The reason for the fall in turnover is the cooperation with Microsoft on the search engine offering agreed in 2009, Yahoo explained. Since then, the revenue from this has had to be shared. Group CEO Bartz defended the job cuts as a "redistribution" of resources. "We need people where we need them." She promised that Yahoo would have more staff at the end of the year than today.

Yahoo is looking for a strategy to counter the dominance of Google and Facebook on the Internet. Bartz said that Yahoo is an online company that presents each user with their own personal content. The vision is to be able to offer 630 million different pages so that every user can find what is right for them. The right advertising could then be added.

Michael Perricone becomes new head of politics at the Blick Group

The Blick Group is getting a new political editor: Michael Perricone will take over as head of the politics desk, succeeding Jürg Lehmann.

Lehmann has resigned as of the end of January and is leaving the company of his own accord, Ringier announced on Wednesday evening. He wishes to pursue a new challenge.

43-year-old Michael Perricone began his journalistic career in 1991 as co-head of the Zurich youth newspaper Toaster and joined the founding team of the Tages-Anzeiger's youth supplement Ernst in 1995. As a VJ and producer, he worked for TeleZüri/Tele24 for three years starting in 1997, and for one year as head of editions for the news sections of both stations. From 2002, he worked for two years at Kassensturz and was then a reporter and producer at 10vor10 for six years. In addition, he also worked as a special foreign correspondent for Swiss television. Jürg Lehmann held several senior positions at Ringier, including Editor-in-Chief of Blick for four years from 1999. On June 1, 2009, he took over the management of the Hans Ringier Foundation's School of Journalism and was responsible for the professional training of young journalists at Ringier Switzerland. Lehmann also initiated the professional training of journalists in the newsroom and worked as an author before taking over as head of the political section on October 1, 2010.
