Scholz & Friends Zurich realizes new motifs for Oakley

Starting in May 2012, Oakley will launch two new ad campaigns as part of its international «Beyond Reason» campaign. Scholz & Friends Zurich is responsible for both the creative concept and the execution.

Scholz & Friends has been Oakley's European lead agency since 2010 and is responsible for the eyewear and apparel manufacturer's brand and product communications. Formula 1 world champion Fernando Alonso and rally record champion Sebastien Loeb act as brand ambassadors and were staged by photographer Sebastian Hänel.

The current motifs are used in all European core markets: Germany, France, Italy and Spain.

Wemf: Decline in advertising revenues in February

In February, some Swiss print media published significantly fewer advertisements than in the same month of the previous year. Overall, the publications included in the advertising statistics reported revenue of 111.4 million Swiss francs, representing a decline of 10.4 percent.

Of this, 11.6 million Swiss francs came from job ads (-35 percent), 3.9 million Swiss francs from real estate ads (-13.3 percent) and 87.3 million from commercial and other ads (-6.8 percent). Newspapers and magazines were only able to earn slightly more with brochure inserts compared to the previous year, with 8.8 million Swiss francs, an increase of 2.4 percent. This is the finding of the Wemf for Advertising Research in its latest survey.

The financial and business press showed the most significant decline. For these print products, advertising revenues declined by 16.6 percent to 2.3 million Swiss francs. The daily press, where the most advertisements are placed with 62.2 million Swiss francs, recorded a decline of 11.1 percent compared to February 2011. For the Sunday press, the decline remained in the single digits. Sunday newspapers still placed ads worth 10.3 million Swiss francs, which corresponds to a decrease of 8.8 percent.

LBI: Tying on the digital cooking apron for Caotina

LBI Switzerland has developed a recipe app for the Swiss brand Caotina for Facebook and the company's website. The multilingual app is available in German and French.

"Caotina Mhh...!" - This is both the credo and the name of the recipe app that the agency has created for the Caotina brand of Schweizer Wander AG. The app is available via Facebook and the Caotina brand website Switzerland and Germany. Users can also recommend the recipes to others and are invited to upload their own creative recipes directly to Facebook, the agency said in a statement. The app also does justice to the diversity of languages in Switzerland. It recognizes which language the user uses and delivers both the interface and recipes in the respective language.

As the icing on the cake, Caotina was able to get the young Zurich star chef Meta Hiltebrand to compose the recipes.

LBI Switzerland
Founded in 1995 under the name Framfab, the agency group became part of the agency group LBI International in August 2008 after 13 years. LBI Switzerland is associated with LBI Germany, with offices in Cologne, Berlin, Hamburg and Munich.

Comcom: rules for mobile communications auction softened

The Federal Communications Commission (Comcom) has retroactively relaxed its own rules for the mobile spectrum auction, which took place last month.

Now Comcom is allowing Sunrise, Swisscom and Orange to pay the auction price in installments. In the invitation to tender for the auction rules, Comcom had still demanded payment of the entire price within 30 days of the award of the license. According to SDA, the amount was to be paid in one go.

In total, the auction of all mobile frequencies brought in an amount of 996.3 million francs. Sunrise has to pay the most: 482 million francs. Swisscom accounts for 360 million francs and Orange for 155 million francs.

Tranche payments offered
At the media conference, Comcom President Marc Furrer had already indicated that he would be willing to offer to pay the auction price in installments. On March 2, Sunrise received an offer for staggered payment. It would have to transfer 289 million francs within 30 days of the award of the licenses. That's according to Sunrise's annual report, which was published Thursday. Another 105 million francs would be due by the end of June 2015 and the remaining 110 million francs by the end of 2016.

Criticism of rates
The option for installment payments applies not only to Sunrise, but also to Swisscom and Orange, Furrer said Thursday in an interview with the news agency SDA: "We treat all three providers the same." Orange nevertheless did not react happily. It was astonished that after the conclusion of the auction there was talk of tranche payments and thus the auction rules were subsequently changed materially in favor of Sunrise, spokeswoman Therese Wenger said, according to SDA.

Marc Furrer said that it would also make economic sense to be able to pay part of the price only when the concessions come into force. Then the providers would have the money free for investments in network expansion. However, nothing has been decided yet about the installment payments. The decision will be made when the concessions are issued. That might be the case in a month or two.

Radio 24 presenter moves to Energy Bern

After two years, Michael Reusser, the host of the midday and early evening shows, is leaving Radio 24 at the end of June. Reusser began working as a host at the Zurich-based station in 2010.

After Michael Reusser gave up his job as a teacher and flight attendant, he began his radio training as a trainee at Radio Extra Bern. Shortly afterwards, Canal 3 in Biel hired him as a presenter. After two years, Reusser's path led him to Capital FM, where he spent his nights with listeners and many music novelties as music editor and presenter of the "Capital Club" program.

Now Michael Reusser is moving back home. "I had an exciting and incredibly instructive time at Radio 24 in Zurich. But the Limmat is not the Aare, and Bahnhofsstrasse is not the Loebegge. I'm drawn back to Bern," says the die-hard Bernese. As a presenter on Energy Bern, he will be delighting listeners with his shows from July.

Ostschweiz am Sonntag is launched

The NZZ Media Group has decided to release the "seventh daily edition" project for implementation. The first edition of "Ostschweiz am Sonntag" will be published at the beginning of March 2013.

The various project teams will use the remaining time to further intensify planning in all areas. Analyses have shown that for both internal and external reasons (reader and advertising market perspective), a launch date in the first quarter of 2013 would be ideal, according to a press release from Tagblatt Medien. "We will make concrete statements on the conception of the offer mix in due course," explains Daniel Ehrat, General Manager of Tagblatt Medien.

Stämpfli enters into partnership with Contentserv

Stämpfli Publications is expanding its portfolio in the field of publication systems. The Stämpfli Group is the new Swiss partner of Contentserv, a company specializing in enterprise marketing management solutions.

In addition to the standard Stämpfli MediaSolution3 software, the Contentserv system is another option that customers can use to centrally record their data and publish it automatically in various electronic and printed media. Complex web-to-print and web-to-publish projects are handled efficiently with these systems. The Group announced this in a press release on Thursday.

Managing Director and co-owner Peter Stämpfli cites one of the reasons for the partnership with Contentserv: "Many of our customers are striving for greater networking of the various marketing and communication activities in their company. This is why they need systems that can map content management, creation and publication in various media channels. With Contentserv, we can provide customized system solutions that grow with the users' requirements, keep unnecessary complexity away from the customers and offer them a solution that allows them to do exactly what they need."

Huber+Suhner with profit slump

Huber + Suhner, a specialist in cable and telecommunications technology, reported a significant drop in profits in 2011: The company’s net income totaled 49.8 million Swiss francs, down 37 percent from 2010.

Huber + Suhner cites the strong Swiss franc and the high price of copper as the reasons for the decline. Currency effects and raw material prices reduced operating profit before interest and taxes (EBIT) by CHF 34 million. The cable manufacturer writes this on
Thursday according to SDA. Compared to the previous year, EBIT fell by 35.1 percent to CHF 66.1 million.

Huber + Suhner was also unable to match the previous year's sales figures. As already announced in mid-January, the Group's sales fell by 5 percent to 758 million Swiss francs. However, the strong Swiss franc also clouded the result here: calculated in local currencies, the company reported growth of 5 percent.

The second half of the year was particularly difficult for the company. The company cites the general reluctance to invest, the global weakness of the solar market and the Chinese government's halt to all high-speed rail projects in the middle of last year as the reasons for this.

Due to the weak fourth quarter, the outlook is also rather cautious. The question of when the halted rail projects in China will be continued remains unanswered. Meanwhile, there is no easing in sight in the solar market. Overall, the company expects a decline in turnover.
