Last but not least: Healthy thanks to art

Finally, some good news: People who regularly attend theater performances and art exhibitions—or show an interest in culture in other ways—live healthier lives.

Forget sport, healthy eating and the annual resolution to stop smoking - you don't need any of that. All you need is art. In any case, a researcher at the University of Rome has discovered in a study that people who are interested in art recover more quickly from a stroke than those who are not interested in culture. Regardless of the severity of the stroke, a difference could be proven. It is assumed that the brain changes positively when people engage with art - so that it also recovers better structurally.

So: go to the theater, listen to music and watch Arte - your health will thank you for it.

Apple: App developers committed to stricter data protection

Apple has begun to reject apps from its App Store that access the unique identifier (UDID) of mobile devices.

This is reported by the technology blog Techcrunch. The identification numbers can be used to uniquely identify cell phones or tablet computers with a mobile connection. To date, numerous apps have accessed the UDID in order to collect information about users and place customized advertising, for example.

Around six months ago, Apple informed app developers that a change in UDID usage was imminent. Now, however, the company is getting serious for the first time and has rejected the first apps that use this access. Applications from several developers were therefore rejected last week, reports the blog.

Unlike cookies, which many internet sites use to analyze the surfing behavior of their users, the UDID on a smartphone or tablet cannot be deleted. In recent weeks, access to the UDID and the use of this data has increasingly come under fire from data protectionists in the USA, who see it as an invasion of privacy. Many app users also use the UDID for copy protection, for example to ensure that magazine subscriptions can only be used on a specific device.

It remains to be seen what app developers could use as an alternative to the UDID to obtain user data and offer their services. (SDA/DPA)

UPC Cablecom must include Joiz in the analog network

The Federal Supreme Court has dismissed UPC Cablecom's appeal against OFCOM's decision to require the channel to be carried. UPC Cablecom is therefore required to carry the Joiz television channel on its analog cable network and in HD.

With the ruling of the Federal Court, the decision of the Federal Office of Communications Bakom and the ruling of the Federal Administrative Court are confirmed and should now finally be implemented, the youth channel said in a statement on Monday: Joiz must also be broadcast in analog and HD by UPC Cablecom from June 26 at the latest. The Federal Court has thereby right in all relevant points of the first two instances. UPC Cablecom is obliged to broadcast Joiz for three years in digital (SD and HD) as well as on its analog cable network.

The Federal Court's ruling is a further confirmation for Joiz, says Alexander Mazzara, CEO of Joiz. And it is a victory for the young generation of media users in Switzerland, he added. Joiz has been working with Swiss youth associations since the start of the broadcast. Ivica Petrusic, managing director of the cantonal child and youth promotion organization Okaj, is correspondingly pleased: "We are of course delighted with the verdict. It confirms our commitment and we are happy that we can show our work to a broad public."
