The answer stages the frog for Emser pastilles

Emser lozenges help relieve sore throats. The ad spotlights this classic remedy.

The Romans used to travel to Bad Ems to be cured by the relaxing power of the thermal water there. This has been easier since 1858: with Emser Pastilles, which have been a true classic for sore throats, difficulty swallowing and coughs for over 160 years. In the meantime, the recipe has been developed further and the range has been constantly expanded. Today, Emser Pastilles with the beneficial healing power of natural Emser salt are among the classics among throat remedies.

The agency Die Antwort realized a campaign for its client that gave the expression "I have a frog in my throat" a completely new, surprising meaning.

The campaign is international: it is being used in Germany, Austria and Switzerland and is visible in both digital and analog form as well as at the pharmacy POS.

Scholtysik & Partner gives a Bernese institution a new coat of paint

The Berner Generationenhaus is reorienting its focus. With a new structure and a diverse annual cultural program, the institution, located in the heart of Bern, aims to further encourage dialogue on intergenerational issues in the future. The branding and design agency Scholtysik & Partner is developing the corresponding overall brand identity.

In addition to a wide variety of events, the annual program of the Berner Generationenhaus includes a multimedia exhibition held on the premises of the Generationenhaus on Bern’s Bahnhofplatz. Through this initiative, the organizers aim to further promote social dialogue and position the center even more firmly as a center of expertise on intergenerational issues. Since its opening in 2014, intergenerational coexistence and cohesion have been core themes for this Bern-based institution, which brings together a wide range of counseling services, a senior center, and a daycare center under one roof.

The visual identity designed by Scholtysik & Partner stems from the building’s positioning as a place of dialogue and encounter. The «stage principle» simultaneously creates unity in diversity by providing a framework for the variable elements without hindering individuality. Thus, the colors used do not follow a predetermined sequence but respond directly to the content. In terms of typography, the communicative Lyon Display complements the classic Theinhardt typeface used previously.
«Scholtysik & Partner understood us right away and was able to perfectly translate our vision into a cohesive design concept,» says Aline Jordi, communications manager at the Berner Generationenhaus. «You can really sense the holistic approach the agency brings to the table. The fact that they know the city of Bern and our situation well definitely helped.»

In addition to the color, typography, and layout concepts, Scholtysik & Partner is also modernizing the Generationenhaus logo and making it more iconic. In addition, the branding agency is producing the business stationery, designing flyers and brochures, and developing the interface design for the new Begh.ch website, which is being implemented by the web agency Gridonic.

Free of advertising, not profit-oriented: New online medium planned for Basel

A new online publication is set to launch in Basel this fall; its working title is «Neues Onlinemedium Basel.» It is intended to be an ad-free platform focused on life in the Basel region. It is supported by the nonprofit association Medienzukunft Basel.

The Foundation for Media Diversity will support the project over the next three years with an annual cost ceiling of one million Swiss francs, as Andreas Miescher from the Foundation told the Keystone-SDA news agency when asked.

The advertising-free platform wants to network strongly with other online media and develop a regional public service for the digital age, the foundation announced on Monday evening. The Medienzukunft Basel association bears the publishing and entrepreneurial responsibility. The Foundation for Media Diversity is not involved.

Three project groups had applied to the foundation with different plans. After a "thorough examination", it was decided to support the project under the concept management of Matthias Zehnder and Hansi Voigt. The plan is to create an online medium with a Basel focus on politics and business, society and science, sport and, last but not least, a daily Basel cultural agenda.

Media landscape in upheaval

The Basel media landscape is undergoing radical change: in October, the Basel Newspaper (BaZ) was integrated into the Tamedia Group. Since mid-August, the portal Prime News of the former local head of the BaZChristian Keller, online. In November, the media project DailyWeek was discontinued after seven years and 18 full-time positions were lost.

All regional providers, including the newspapers and Telebasel, which is strongly promoting its internet channel, are using multimedia. The online portal was the last to go online in 2015 Barfi.ch of former Radio Basilisk co-founder Christian Heeb. Due to a lack of advertising revenue Barfi.ch is now in debt-restructuring moratorium and is looking for partners.

Since 1998, Peter Knechtli's OnlineReports News and stories free of charge on the Internet, according to its own figures in the black. (SDA)

FOPH raises awareness of organ donation with new campaign

«Talk about organ donation. For the sake of your loved ones.» That is the message of the new awareness campaign launched by the Federal Office of Public Health (FOPH) in collaboration with Swisstransplant on February 25, 2019. The goal is to encourage the public to make a decision about organ donation and to share that decision with their loved ones, in order to ease their burden and provide clarity. Contexta and Stories are behind the production.

organspendekampagne-22019

According to surveys, the Swiss population is basically positive about organ donation. The focus of the organ donation campaign is therefore not on persuasion. Rather, the campaign is all about dialogue and relieving the burden on relatives.

Anyone and everyone can suddenly be confronted with the question of whether or not the organs of a deceased relative should be released for removal. Although 80 percent of the population is in favor of organ donation, only very few communicate their will. For the relatives, this can lead to a very difficult situation: If the will to donate organs in the event of death is not known, they must decide in the deceased person's best interest. So anyone who makes their will for organ donation known at an early stage relieves their family immensely - and decides for themselves what will happen to their body after their death. The campaign starts on February 25, 2019 and will run for three years until 2021 with an annual budget of 1.17 million Swiss francs. In addition to numerous information materials, the population will also have access to an information film on expressing one's will, an information brochure with an integrated organ donation card, and numerous other materials. Further information is available at Life-is-sharing.ch to find.

Target: 22 donors per million population in 2021

At the end of 2018, a new high of 18.6 donors per million population was reached. With the extension of the "More Organs for Transplantation" action plan, this number is to be increased to 22 donors per million population by 2021.

Responsible at the Federal Office of Public Health FOPH: Adrian Kammer (Head of Health Information and Campaigns Section), Cinzia Pastore Ferrari (Co-Project Manager Campaigns), Susanne Nyfeler (Co-Ltg. Transplantation and Reproductive Medicine Section and Co-Ltg. Organ Donation Campaign), Christa Käser (Co-Project Manager). Responsible agency: Contexta. Production: Stories; Director: Flurin Giger, DoP: Silvan Giger, Executive Producer: Yves Bollag, Producer: Angelique Ingold, Postproduction Producer: Billy Bains, Editing: Flurin Giger/Silvan Giger & Noëmi Preiswerk, Color Grading: Adriel Pfister, Voice Recording: UKO, Music & Sound Design: Fabian Sturzenegger, Sound Mix: Michael Schwarz (Jingle Jungle) Media: Mediascheider Bern.

Two exceptional talents venture into advertising

For the implementation, the project team relied on the film production Stories and its two young talents Giger brothers. Flurin, 23 (script and direction), and Silvan Giger, 21 (camera), from Seewis in Graubünden achieved in 2016 with their first short film "Ruah" what no one else in Switzerland managed: they were invited to the Venice International Film Festival. In 2018, their second short film "Schächer" was screened, even at the "Semaine de la Critique" in Cannes. Despite their young age, the power duo has already had greats like Johnny Depp, Judi Dench and John C. Reilly in front of the lens.

GigerBrothers_996x560px

It is no coincidence that the decision was made in favor of these two exceptional talents. Because getting people to deal with death and organ donation requires a sure instinct. In their short film "Schächer" about the inevitability of death, the Giger brothers showed that they have plenty of it. "We wanted to engage the viewer on the topic of organ donation without being pushy. Through a funny, whimsical, yet serious fictional story that is meant to get people talking," says Flurin.

The result is a TV and social video spot, a YouTube film and a print subject. The campaign will run for three years.

bag-kampagne

"We are convinced that with this new TV spot and the continuation of the campaign, we can encourage people in this country to think about the issue of organ donation and motivate them to make their will known to their loved ones," says Adrian Kammer, head of the FOPH's Health Information and Campaigns Section. The organ donation campaign is a key component of the More Organs for Transplants action plan launched by the Federal Council in March 2013.

Elections at the University of Applied Sciences: HES-SO and Franz&René engage in propaganda

Every two years, the University of Applied Sciences of Western Switzerland (HES-SO) organizes internal elections so that students and staff can have a say in shaping the institution’s future. To raise awareness of this, the agency Franz&René created a two-phase campaign.

creative-agence-franzetrene-hes-DE

With over 21,000 students, the University of Applied Sciences Western Switzerland HES-SO is the largest university of applied sciences in Switzerland. Every two years, the HES-SO organizes internal elections so that students and employees can help decide the future with their vote. The agency Franz&René relies on a 360-degree campaign. Elements of traditional propaganda are used to promote the importance of taking part in the democratic elections.

For a week, propaganda posters were displayed in the university buildings of the HES-SO without any explanation. The messages displayed on them are provocative and trigger reactions ranging from puzzlement to outrage. They should not leave anyone indifferent.

Education: There are signed messages from the university on the posters. These convey that the election of student councils is an important opportunity to help shape the future of the school with ideas, opinions and experiences. At the same time, the campaign was disseminated on social networks via videos, carousel ads and stories on Facebook, Instagram and LinkedIn. Flyers and promotional items rounded off the offer.

Neue Zürcher Zeitung prevails against Kleinreport in court

The Neue Zürcher Zeitung went all the way to the Zurich High Court over an article on the industry portal Kleinreport - and was proven right. Kleinreport must publish a counterstatement.

nzz-vs-kleinreport

In September 2018, the industry platform Kleinreport had reported that a feature editor was NZZ but with side noises. Among other things, the text said that the editor had gotten into an argument with the wife of editor-in-chief Eric Gujer. His wife also works at the NZZ.

The head of the feature section René Scheu had no choice but to "pull the rip cord," wrote the Small Report and thus insinuated that Scheu had worked towards the employee's dismissal. In addition, the editor had missed the "support of the department management", wrote the Small Report.

"Left of my own free will"

The NZZ did not want to accept this article as it was. She criticized that there was no question of a lack of support and a dispute with the boss's wife. The head of department had also not "pulled the rip cord" or otherwise acted on the dismissal of the employee. Rather, it was correct that the employee had left of her own free will.

The NZZ sued and demanded a counterstatement before the district court. The court approved the request in October 2018 and ordered Kleinreport to publish the counterstatement. However, the industry platform stood by its representation and took the case to the higher court - primarily because it was ordered to pay the court costs and did not want to pay them.

NZZ receives justice

However, the court is on the side of the NZZas can be seen from the recently published ruling. The insinuation that a department head "pulled the ripcord", i.e. worked towards the dismissal of an employee, weighs heavily. "This puts the operation of the NZZ in an extremely unfavorable light."

Whether Gujer was reacting in a shamefully petty manner to personal slights or to slights of his immediate environment was not to be decided in these proceedings. However, the insinuation that this is the case is, according to the Supreme Court, injurious to the NZZ.

The ruling of the higher court is legally binding. The industry portal must therefore definitely pay the costs of the proceedings. The counterstatement had already been published earlier, editor-in-chief and publisher Ursula Klein told the Keystone-SDA news agency.

Gone are the legal disputes between Small Report and NZZ not yet. According to Klein, the publisher is now demanding that she delete four more texts. However, she is not prepared to do this. In addition, the former editor of the feature section, which was the subject of the disputed article, has filed an injunction against the publisher with the Hamburg Regional Court. Small Report obtained. (SDA)

SRF reorganizes the radio division

Reorganization in SRF’s Radio Division: Susanne Witzig will head the newly formed cross-program editorial team for background reporting and podcasts, while Roland Wehrli and Alexander Blunschi will jointly take over management of the live programming on Radio SRF 3.

Roland Wehrli, Journalistic Co-Head SRF 3, Susanne Witzig, Head of "Background and Podcast" and Program Developer Radio, Alexander Blunschi, Journalistic Co-Head SRF 3 (from left).

The Radio division in the Programming department comprises the entire offering of Radio SRF 1, Radio SRF 3 and Radio SRF Musikwelle, including the trimedial specialist Pop/Rock editorial team.

Reorganization in the Radio Division

Swiss Radio and Television is partially reorganizing its radio division. In view of current developments in the radio and audio sector, which show that linear radio use is declining and on-demand use is increasing, individual editorial teams are being merged and placed under new management. As a result, individual organizational changes that were planned for the move to the Leutschenbach site are already being implemented.

Röbi Ruckstuhl, Head of Radio at SRF, explains: "Linear radio will continue to have a firm place in the media mix of the Swiss for many years to come. Around 80 percent still regularly listen to linear radio. Nevertheless, we have to continuously adapt to changes in media usage. We are therefore combining radio background broadcasts and podcast production in a new editorial department in order to invest the combined forces in new audio products."

Susanne Witzig: Head of Background and Podcast

The newly formed editorial team "Background and Podcast" comprises the background programs "Input" and "Focus" from Radio SRF 3, "Doppelpunkt" from Radio SRF 1 and all podcast products from the Radio division. Susanne Witzig, 48, is taking over as head of this newly created cross-program editorial department in addition to her function as program developer for the Radio division. The aim is in particular to develop new digital background formats and thus to be able to make new audio content available to the audience on demand.

Radio SRF 3 in co-production with Roland Wehrli and Alexander Blunschi

The management of Radio SRF 3's linear live programming will be taken over by Roland Wehrli, previously in charge of daytime programming at Radio SRF 3, and Alexander Blunschi, currently Head of Moderation at Radio SRF 3: They will share the journalistic management, with Alexander Blunschi, 38, continuing to be responsible for moderation and Roland Wehrli, 45, focusing on editorial matters.

Röbi Ruckstuhl again: "We decided on a co-management model because we are convinced that the flexibility it provides is important in times of media change, so that we can optimally meet the changing needs of our listeners.

Heidi Ungerer, journalistic director of Radio SRF 1, will now take over as deputy for Röbi Ruckstuhl. The new organization will come into effect at the beginning of May 2019.

Zenith calls for a rethink of personalization and targeting

Personalized advertising is on the rise. Thanks to data analytics, advertisers are becoming increasingly adept at reaching target audiences in specific usage scenarios—and on a massive scale. However, to ensure that these new, tailored approaches to users actually lead to greater consumer engagement and business growth, advertisers should adjust their targeting strategies.

Targeting by age is still common in many advertising categories. However, given the fundamental shift in media usage and commerce and significant changes in consumers' life stages, the traditional demographic approach is no longer effective.

In its latest report "Generation Z is not the next big thing", Zenith argues for a multi-year approach. The term was coined by marketing expert Gina Pell and Zenith believes that marketers should shift their focus from age to mindset, behavior change and disposable income.

In the report, Zenith argues that targeting by age is no longer effective when many cultures around the world are seeing changes in patterns of life events. As creatures of habit, we are most receptive to new brands when we experience a change in lifestyle. Historically, some of the most formative changes happened before the age of 35. However, now that we are living longer and going through more and different life changes, it is no longer appropriate to target only the young. According to estimates from the Human Mortality Database in 2018, half of the babies born in wealthier countries since 2000 may reach their 100th birthday.

The rules are also changing when it comes to disposable income. Today, many young people around the world are struggling to find work and do not have the same frivolous behaviors or consumption habits of previous generations. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, 16- to 19-year-olds will make up only 26 percent of labor force participation in 2024, down from 52 percent in 2000. Similarly, older generations are becoming more determined to enjoy life, take on new things and spend more money.

Statistics on a variety of measures, including alcohol consumption and sexual intercourse, show that today's young people are not the hedonistic disruptors of previous generations. Rather than being trendsetters, they are conformists trying to get the best out of the system.
