Giving brands a voice: study on the branding of voice assistants and bots
With its recently published study, MetaDesign highlights the importance of brand personalities in the context of developing bots and voice assistants.

Observations have shown that although there are many different use case-specific bots and voice assistants, they only work on their own. The brand itself remains unnoticed here. Moreover, it will not be possible to differentiate such offerings purely on the basis of functionality for long due to rapid technological progress. What then remains as a distinguishing feature is exclusively the brand personality. With voice assistants and bots, this can be defined more precisely than ever before. Companies will very likely have to think about what personalization means for them.
Together with end customers, branding specialists, research experts and psychologists from the renowned market research institute Eye Sqare as well as UX experts, developers, sound and language specialists, strong brands were transformed into prototypical voice assistant personalities in an experiment.
The results of the study are based on three pillars: firstly, on the findings of speech effects and personality research. Among other things, this shows that it is indeed possible to draw conclusions about a person's personality based on their voice. The second point: a sophisticated methodology. Explorative, explicit and implicit quantitative methods were used to approach the brands. Last but not least: the user. A process that must be interdisciplinary and consistently user-centered.
- Invisible Interface is not faceless
- Speech and voice effects send clear codes and can thus - just like visual brand appearances - convey brand messages im- and explicitly, make them recognizable and distinguishable.
- User-centric - but brand first
- Digitalization relies on maximum personalization. In the future, however, those who can do both will make the difference: Create points of identification with the brand AND serve user needs in real time.
- Personality is the brand experience
- In a world of "digital equalization", the brand's unique personality profile is the only way to differentiate itself. Their attitude, behavior and way of speaking make the decisive difference. The encounter with it is the brand experience.
- Attitude - a true brand commitment
- Attitude manifests itself in words and proves itself in deeds: Opinion, voice, language, speech content, thoughts, feelings, ... Brand must expand its self-image to become a true personality.
- Perfection is not likeable
- What makes the people who are close to us or with whom we can identify special are also their rough edges. Brands should therefore also acknowledge this and not just their strengths: The courage to have rough edges is also what rounds out a brand's personality.
- Context equals empathy
- Conversations and relationships take place in contexts: You adapt to your counterpart and the situation. In the same way, brands and voice assistants should naturally behave empathetically and adapt their behavior to the mood, the context of use and the needs of their user.
In user workshops with brand users, the brands were first transformed into personality and voice descriptions using projective-associative techniques. With the help of a live sketcher, a profile picture of the respective brand character was created based on the test subjects' input. Based on the results of the focus groups, a character profile of the brand personality was created and a voice profile derived. Based on this, the identification of suitable brand voices began. As part of an online survey, 2000 panel participants were then asked about personality traits, voice profiles, voice and conversation samples of the brands.

The primary aim of the study was to develop a process that makes conversation branding possible in the first place. At the same time, it is important to show that brands need to think further in light of the new possibilities and turn them into human-centered, conversational personalities. The insights gained from the study are immensely valuable, MetaDesign writes in a press release.
Interaction through language is one of the predominant topics for the coming years. Whether search, purchase or control - such a crucial touchpoint must represent the brand. So far, the debate on this has tended to be technically and functionally driven. It's high time for marketers to get involved in the debate.

One in five already uses third-party account data: Account piracy costs Netflix millions
The use of other people’s user accounts is a problem for streaming platforms that causes significant financial damage. According to the U.S. analytics firm CordCutting, Netflix alone loses $192 million a month due to this type of piracy—more than Amazon Prime Video ($45 million) and Hulu ($40 million) combined. Across all providers, on average, one in five users accesses someone else’s account, most often that of a relative.

"It wasn't so long ago that expensive cable or stable TV packages were the only way to access exclusive series and movie content," says the CordCutting report. But times have changed. "Today, every average user has at least one subscription to a video streaming portal. And this number will continue to rise in the future," explain the experts. The problem: "Individual streaming offers may only cost a few dollars per month. But if you also want particularly exclusive content, it can quickly become expensive."
This is where the use of third-party accounts - known as "subscription mooching" - often comes into play. "You can save a lot of money every month by using someone else's login details. With an estimated 137 million Netflix customers worldwide, it doesn't seem that difficult to find someone who will provide you with their account details," emphasizes the US company. The savings per person could easily amount to several hundred dollars over an entire year. "Of course, the losses incurred by streaming providers as a result are significantly greater," the CordCutting analysis points out.
According to the analysis, an average of one in five people access content on streaming portals via a third-party account. This piracy phenomenon is most widespread among millennials: At Netflix, 95.8 percent of users from this generation, born in the period from the early 1980s to the late 1990s, engage in mooching. This group is also in first place at Hulu with 50.7 percent. Only on Amazon Prime Video do the "baby boomers" land in the top position with 63.1 percent.
It is also interesting to see where the third-party user data comes from. "Almost 48 percent of Netflix moochers say they got their logins from their parents. A further 14 percent used their siblings' data for this purpose," according to the CordCutting report. Amazon (parents: 32 percent, siblings: 14 percent) and Hulu (parents: 26 percent, siblings: 11 percent) also show that their own relatives are very generous when it comes to sharing their subscription accounts. Now also visually a women's station: CH Media re-dresses TV25
Starting Friday, TV25 will be sporting a new look. The visual identity of CH Media’s national TV channel has been tailored to its existing female audience, and following this facelift, it is now visually positioned as a Swiss women’s channel.
TV25, CH Media's national TV channel, will have a new look from Friday. Based on the existing website in terms of color and concept, the focus is now also on the female target group on the audiovisual level. Together with the Zurich production company frame eleven and the sound designers from UKO, the station has fundamentally redesigned its appearance. The new on-air presence will be launched with a classic communication campaign focusing on popular US series, including the free TV premieres "Will & Grace" and "The Connors".
Since its launch in 2016, TV25 has focused on a broad spectrum of US series, European and international feature films, documentaries and Swiss in-house productions. For the past two years, the Swiss-German channel has been consistently positioned as a female channel. With lasting success among women aged 20-49, as Ute von Moers, Head of Programming, Purchasing & Research, confirms: "Since spring 2017, we have successively geared our programming more towards women and now reach a predominantly female audience aged 20-49. Now the time has come to dedicate TV25 to this exciting and advertising-relevant target group visually as well."
In addition to the dynamic adaptation of the logo, the newly produced Station Idents and advertising bumpers with five very different types of women take center stage. The new design conveys a sense of self-confidence on a visual and acoustic level and places women at the center. The new claim "TV25 - Bewegt mich." also underlines the new image and emphasizes the emotional closeness that the station builds with its female viewers through moving content in all program genres.
Responsible at TV25: Roger Elsener (Managing Director TV & Radio, Member of the Executive Board CH Media), Ute von Moers (Head of Programming, Purchasing & Research), Denise Hildbrand (Head of Marketing TV), Remo Marti (Creative Director TV). Responsible at Frame Eleven + Partners: Marc Haas (Creative Director/Partner), Oliver Aemisegger (Art Director/Partner), Leoni Kool (Producer) & UKO - The Audio Suite.

Four new Executive Directors at Jung von Matt/Limmat for more empowerment
Jung von Matt/Limmat kicked off 2019 with four new executive directors. In addition to newcomer Carsten Jamrow, Vera Riemeier, Christoph Kinsperger, and Wolfgang Bark were promoted. They are all tasked with driving forward the collaborative efforts of the JvM team as a whole.

Jung von Matt/Limmat is introducing another function with the Executive Director - and with a forward-looking focus: "The E of Executive also stands for empowerment," says JvM CEO Roman Hirsbrunner. "Every agency is only as good as its employees. It becomes even better when it succeeds in aligning the goals of the employees with the agency goals. That means: encourage, challenge and celebrate."
Vera Riemeier (Executive Project Director Consulting) has been part of Jung von Matt/Limmat since 2018. Prior to that, she spent several years at Rod Kommunikation as Senior Account Director, where she was responsible for the SBB umbrella campaign, among other things. She discovered her passion for the creative industry at "Zum goldenen Hirschen Berlin". She coaches young career women on a voluntary basis as part of the 1TP5 women's work initiative and also plays the violin in several symphony and chamber orchestras in Switzerland.
Christoph Kinsperger (Executive Project Director PR & Content) has been with the agency for six years and is almost a Jung von Matt/Limmat native. Prior to his role as Executive Project Director, he was already working as Project Director PR at the communications agency, having started out as a public relations consultant. In addition to the dark green, he also has a musical streak: he is a former music journalist and Viva editor.
Wolfgang Bark (Executive Creative Director) After holding positions at Wirz Werbung, Havas Worldwide Zurich, Grey Düsseldorf and Scholz&Friends in Hamburg, Bark has been working as Creative Director for Jung von Matt/Limmat since 2016. The long-time ADC member has won numerous international awards, including for Helmut Karasek's literary criticism for the Ikea catalog. According to his friends, the otherwise very stylish Wolfgang has the worst taste in music in the world.
Carsten Jamrow (Executive Creative Director) was most recently Executive Creative Director at Lukas Lindemann Rosinski in Hamburg, where he was responsible for the agency's digital business. In his role, he implemented integrated campaigns for Mercedes-Benz, among others. Carsten already has dark green blood: the international award-winning creative was already at Jung von Matt/Alster. Carsten also works as a photographer in the surf and lifestyle sector, which is at least as cultivated as the musical interests of his colleagues.
New faces at SRF Virus: Marina Fischer and Livio Carlin join the presenter team
Marina Fischer and Livio Carlin—also known as the rapper LCone—are the two new hosts who started this week on Radio SRF Virus.

Two new presenters have been behind the microphone at Radio SRF Virus since this week: Marina Fischer celebrated her premiere on Monday, February 25, 2019. The 24-year-old previously worked as a presenter at Radio Sunshine and is now joining the team for the daytime program.
On Thursday, February 28, 2019, 24-year-old Livio Carlin, also known as rapper LCone, started on "SRF Bounce". He replaces Mauro Wolf, who stepped down as presenter after the "Cypher" in January 2019. In addition to "SRF Bounce", Livio also presents on Unikom Radio 3fach and has a strong network in the Swiss rap scene.

Pascal Weder moves from Admeira to news portal Nau
Pascal Weder, a proven professional in online sales, is joining Nau. The former Admeira Senior Account Manager Media Agencies Digital will join Nau as Head of Sales in March 2019.

"I'm looking forward to the fusion of digital out of home and online," says Pascal Weder, "and of course to further developing and strengthening the Nau brand." For this task, the 32-year-old brings many years of experience with well-known publishers such as Admeira, Cash and Goldbach. He also completed an EMBA in Brand&Marketing Management a few months ago.
Weder strengthens as new Head of Sales at the online news portal Nau the team around Dragan Dojcinovic, Chief Commercial Officer CCO at Livesystems. "Pascal will be instrumental in helping us to drive Nau forward in the advertising market," says Dojcinovic. His 30-plus-strong sales team serves advertisers and agencies with flexible offerings across the full range of digital outdoor advertising and online products. They are gathered under the umbrella of Livesystems Holding and include the online news portal Nau, Passengertv, the screens in public transport, Gasstationtv, the screens at gas stations and Cityscreen in public spaces.
The online platform Nau consists of a young editorial team of 45, was founded on October 18, 2017 and is characterized by a colorful mix of self-stories and news in the fields of politics, people and sports and lively video formats.
Youth instead of culture: Nestlé drops out of Verbier Festival as main sponsor
The Nestlé subsidiary Nespresso is pulling out of the Verbier Music Festival. The festival will now have to look for a new main sponsor.

A Nespresso spokeswoman confirmed to the Handelszeitung: "We have decided to end our collaboration with the Verbier Festival." This is piquant because the president of the Verbier Festival Foundation is Peter Brabeck, long-time head and chairman of Nestlé. Brabeck will have to look for a new main sponsor, as the 250ʼ000 francs annual sponsorship money will be eliminated. In the future, he says, the coffee capsule manufacturer will focus more on gastronomy (Gourmet Weeks) and cinema (Zurich Film Festival).
The background to this is a change in strategy throughout the Nestlé Group, initiated by CEO Mark Schneider. While Brabeck relied heavily on first-class cultural engagements, Schneider is focusing on breadth and youth. The Verbier Festival, founded in 1994, presents international stars of classical music for 17 days in July.
Transformer and the KGV demand: "More SMEs for Züri".
The Transformer agency has created a cross-media campaign for the Association of Small and Medium-Sized Enterprises and Trades of the Canton of Zurich.

This catchy slogan sums up the core message with which the SME and Trade Association of the Canton of Zurich is launching its cross-party election campaign for the Zurich Cantonal Council in 2019. The implementation of Transformer's cross-media election campaign is just as concise and crisp, bringing this content to the point with a striking symbolic language.

Largest trade fair in the world expects over 3500 exhibitors from 55 countries
Over 3500 exhibitors from 55 countries are expected at Bauma 2019 in Munich. With a total exhibition area of 614,000 square meters, Bauma is the largest trade fair in the world.

Bauma is the world's leading industry event for construction machinery, building material machines, mining machines, construction vehicles and construction equipment. In 2016, it broke all previous records with a total of 3425 exhibitors from 58 countries and 583,736 visitors from 219 countries. On April 8, 2019 in Munich, Bauma will offer new possibilities such as VirtualReality and Bauma Plus and thus continues to grow - also digitally. Over 3,500 exhibitors from 55 countries are expected in 2019.
Ahead of the start, Messe München is announcing a new record number of exhibitors: over 3,500 exhibitors from 55 countries are presenting themselves - almost 100 more than in 2016. With Bauma Plus, even more companies can now exhibit. Virtual reality brings the construction site into the exhibition hall. And: the 600,000 visitor mark is to be broken.
"The industry is booming and so is Bauma. We have responded to the high demand and expanded our exhibition grounds in the east of Munich to 614,000 square meters. Our aim is to offer a platform to as many exhibitors as possible. With Bauma 2019, we are growing beyond ourselves - also digitally," says Klaus Dittrich, CEO of Messe München.
For the first time, visitors to Hall B0 will have the opportunity to experience the industry virtually - thanks to virtual and augmented reality. A combination of image, sound or sensory feedback such as wind makes it possible. "The stand space is limited, the digital space is limitless. With new virtual offerings, we are bringing the construction site into the exhibition hall and expanding our digital portfolio," says Bauma Project Manager Mareile Kästner.
The Bauma Plus models are also new, bringing even more exhibitors to the trade fair. With Bauma Plus Onsite, exhibitors can present their company in a compact area. Bauma Plus Move is a flexible co-working area where visitors can meet up with exhibitors. This is not just an opportunity for companies: "Visitors can get an even more comprehensive picture of the industry's suppliers. With the help of our new offerings, we also want to break the 600,000 visitor mark and further expand our status as the world's largest trade fair," explains trade fair boss Dittrich.
