Irène Troxler to leave the NZZ at the end of the year

Irène Troxler, Head of the Zurich and Region Department, has decided to leave the NZZ at the end of the year to take on a new professional challenge at the Zurich Central Library.

irenetroxler

Irène Troxler joined the Zurich and Region department of the "Neue Zürcher Zeitung" in 2001 as an editor, where she focused on the topics of urban development and urban Zurich politics. In the fall of 2017, she took over as head of the department. In this role, she shaped local reporting - also by giving more space to researched stories and generally promoting the narrative aspect in the department. "I very much regret Irène Troxler's departure," Eric Gujer, editor-in-chief of the NZZ, said in a statement. "On behalf of the entire editorial board, I would like to express my sincere thanks for her achievements as well as her many years of commitment to our paper."

The search for a new head for the Zurich and Region department will begin soon.

Zalando tests premium evening delivery in Switzerland

In the Zurich area, select Zalando customers will have the opportunity to test same-day delivery. Zalando is partnering with Swiss Post and Notime for this initiative.

SwissPost2

Following the successful expansion of same-evening delivery in Germany, Zalando is now testing it in Switzerland: Since the end of June, CO2-neutral cargo bikes from the company Notime have been bringing Zalando parcels to Zalando customers in the Zurich area.

In addition to speed, convenience and control over their own parcel are becoming increasingly important for Zalando customers. Private and professional life and changing priorities determine daily routines - but not parcel delivery. Accordingly, this must adapt to the customer and be integrated into everyday life.

For Zalando customers, this means that their package is delivered when they are actually at home. The company already offers this type of delivery in more than 20 German cities: "The higher satisfaction and loyalty resulting from fast evening delivery is reflected in our customers' buying behavior: Satisfied customers order more and more frequently. We are therefore firmly convinced that fast or flexible delivery and return options such as same evening or next day delivery and returns pickup will become the new standard in metropolitan areas," says Lisa Miczaika, Vice President Central Europe and responsible for Zalando's Swiss business.

With Zalando, Swiss Post can thus further improve the transport and same-day delivery of orders, for example, and meet customer needs even more closely. "We are delighted that Zalando has chosen us as its logistics partner and are looking forward to seeing the results of the joint pilot," says Dieter Bambauer, Head of PostLogistics at Swiss Post.

The premium same-evening delivery is made exclusively by bicycles and e-vehicles optimized for urban logistics. "In addition to flexible delivery over the last mile, our climate-friendly transport ensures a sustainable logistics approach that is forward-looking," says Berko Sierau, responsible for research and innovation at Notime.

Migros is now the strongest brand in Switzerland - Google falls off the podium

International brands have gained ground in the top 20 of Switzerland’s strongest consumer brands. However, the top ranks are still dominated by brands of Swiss origin. These are some of the findings from this year’s BrandAsset™ Valuator (BAV) brand study by Y&R Wunderman.

Google, still in the top position in the 2017 survey, leaves the podium of the strongest consumer brands in 2019. The top position in first place is now occupied by Migros. Lego follows in second place and WhatsApp completes the podium of the strongest consumer brands in 2019 in third place.

Top 20: Strongest Consumer Brands in Switzerland

The top 20 consumer brands in Switzerland in 2019 are a mix of established, original Swiss brands and international brands, the majority of which come from the digital sector. The core of this set is relatively stable: more than half of the top 20 consumer brands have remained in this exclusive club of absolute power brands since 2015.

Large differences between age groups

If we look at the Top 10 Consumer Brands 2019 by age group, we see a clear differentiation, especially when generations are skipped. While half of the top 10 consumer brands among digital natives come from the digital sector, the top 10 set of silver surfers are mainly established, original Swiss brands. The digital natives, digital immigrants and silver surfers have in common the perception of Migros, Lego and Google as very strong brands.

Change of position among the ten strongest Swiss consumer brands

Compared to the 2017 survey, the top position among the top 10 Swiss consumer brands remains unchanged: Migros is in first place. Caran D'Ache and Coop are no longer among the top 10 Swiss consumer brands. Ricola (6th) and Zweifel (9th) are now among the strongest Swiss consumer brands. The remaining seven brands on this list remain, but have changed their places.

The BrandAssetTM Valuator has been the world's largest brand study since 1995. In Switzerland, the study is conducted every two years by Y&R Wunderman. The BrandAssetTM Valuator was fundamentally revised in 2015 and conducted again in 2019 as a commissioned study. Around 3,900 people between the ages of 14 and 74 were surveyed about their personal brand perception (digital natives: 14-29 years, digital immigrants: 30-54 years, silver surfers: 55-74 years). The survey was conducted by the LINK Institute, the Swiss market leader in survey research, and is representative of German- and French-speaking Switzerland according to the official structural data for Switzerland.

Tamedia wants to sell Annabelle - Krause-Blouin heads editorial department on an interim basis

In the future, Tamedia plans to focus its paid media operations on its core business—publications financed primarily by subscription revenue—and is considering selling *Annabelle*. Jacqueline Krause-Blouin, the magazine’s long-time deputy editor-in-chief, will take over as interim editor-in-chief at the beginning of August.

jaquelineblouin

As part of the implementation of Tamedia's future holding-type corporate structure with the four business divisions of Paid Media, Commuter Media, Advertising Marketing and Marketplaces, the aim is to focus these units on their core businesses. For paid media, this means concentrating on those titles that are mainly financed by subscription revenues. As a result, Tamedia has decided to examine the sale of Annabelle magazine, which is heavily dependent on the advertising market, according to a press release.

Christoph Tonini, CEO of Tamedia: "The specific challenges of the traditional magazine Annabelle differ fundamentally from those of our paid media. We therefore want to examine whether it would have better development opportunities with a dedicated entrepreneurial personality or another publisher behind it." Initial talks will take place in the coming weeks.

Jacqueline Krause-Blouin takes over as editor-in-chief on an interim basis

Jacqueline Krause-Blouin will take over as editor-in-chief of Annabelle ad interim from the beginning of August 2019 until the end of the year. She succeeds Silvia Binggeli, who will hand over the editorship as announced at the end of July.

Jacqueline Krause-Blouin has been working for Annabelle since the beginning of 2015. She initially worked as a writer and lifestyle editor, before taking over as deputy editor-in-chief in summer 2015. Prior to that, the 32-year-old trained actress worked as an editor and chief of staff for Spex- Magazin für Popkultur, Berliner Morgenpost and Rolling Stone, Berlin, among others. Jacqueline Krause-Blouin will continue to work for the Tages-Anzeiger mommy blog.

Sven Broder will become deputy editor-in-chief. The 44-year-old studied German language and literature and joined Annabelle in 2011 as editor and deputy head of the features department. He took over as head of the department in 2013. In May 2019, he was appointed Deputy Editor-in-Chief ad interim.

Gamers are underestimated branding target group

Video game players represent a large, as yet untapped market for marketing. This is according to a study by the marketing agency Media Chain.

controller-t

According to the report, brands are not addressing the target group of gamers enough, even though they make up an important part of social media users. "The time gamers spend on traditional media is getting shorter, they are now investing more time in content on social media," says Tom Sweeney, Director of Gaming at Media Chain. Brands need to focus more on these channels and learn the language of gamers.

Too little relevant advertising

To explore the brand affinity and social media usage of gamers, Media Chain surveyed 2027 video gamers in the UK. It turned out that YouTube and Facebook are the most popular platforms for the gaming community. According to the researchers, gamers consume more content than other target groups. They would watch videos on social networks 43 percent longer than other users.

However, despite their strong presence on social media, a third of respondents do not feel addressed by brands. More than half (55%) complain that brands promote products that are not relevant to them. A third believe that brands do not understand gaming culture. Half consider the language used by brands to address them to be clichéd and embarrassing.

Ideal target group

According to the study, gamers would be a promising target group, especially due to their strong social media activity. For 78% of respondents, platforms such as Facebook and YouTube are the main source of gaming news. 33% are even active on social networks at the same time as playing games. A third of respondents talk about product purchases, while 57 percent consult social media before making a purchase. Respondents are actually tolerant of branding: 58% want brands to support gaming content on social media that they see regularly. However, advertising must not interrupt the videos, 62 percent of gamers use an ad blocker.

"To be attractive to gamers, brands need to focus more on social content. They can either create it themselves or support a producer who already has access to the audience. It's never going to be as cheap as it is now because supply is outstripping demand," explains Sweeney. However, this will change as soon as brands realize the potential of gamers as a target group. Google gives the "Translate" app more power just in time for the vacation season

Just in time for the vacation season, Google announces a comprehensive update for camera translation in the Google Translate app. With this feature, a text can be recorded with the camera and translated directly.

google-translate-app

The app is therefore perfect for easily understanding menu cards, street signs, product descriptions and more when abroad. With the update, this feature becomes even more useful. 88 languages are now supported, including German, French and Italian.

Whereas previously it was only possible to translate into English, users can now translate into any of the more than 100 languages in Google Translate. For example, it is possible to translate from German into French or from Italian into German. Google Translate also automatically detects which language is being captured with the camera.

For the first time, Neural Machine Translation (NMT) technology is integrated with camera translation. The technology produces more accurate and natural translations by reducing translation errors by more than 55-85 percent in certain language pairs. Most languages can be downloaded, so the feature can be used without an Internet connection.

The update will be rolled out in the coming days.

scholtysik_digitaltag_key_visual_01

"Experience digital together" is the motto of this year's third edition of the day of action. On 3 September, over 80 Swiss companies and organizations will introduce the public to the many facets of digitalization. The Federal Council underlines the importance of the event with the participation of Simonetta Sommaruga.

Refreshing an icon

The "Digital Peak" is at the center of the overall appearance of Digitaltag designed by Scholtysik & Partner. Refreshed and interpreted in a contemporary way, the appearance is thus based on the appearance of previous editions of Digitaltag. In addition to the "Digital Peak", Digitaltag relies on a characteristic, universally applicable typography and a clearly defined color scheme. Scholtysik & Partner is also designing the corresponding communication media and the look and feel of the website. Digital Day partners are also provided with a four-language marketing and communication set.

Have your say with "Tell"

On the occasion of Swiss Digital Day, the aim is to promote dialog with the population in particular: "tell" is the name of the series of events created specifically for this purpose. Visitors to Digital Day will have the opportunity to discuss the changes, hopes and fears surrounding digitalization with experts. Scholtysik & Partner designed the name for the event series with the appropriate claim "Digital starts with you - have your say!". The appearance of "Tell" fits in with the overall appearance of the Digital Day.

"E ke betzli aaltmöödisch sömmer": Hype focuses on Appenzell dialect

The Hype agency in St. Gallen has created a promotional brochure for the Scheidweg Garage that is written entirely in the Appenzell dialect.

Dialekt-Broschüre Scheidweg Garage

"The people of Innerrhoden feel a strong connection to their dialect. By speaking it, the Scheidweg garage is emphasizing its own tradition and origins," says Daniel Steiner from Hype in a press release.

For several years now, the garage has been communicating on social media or with the slogan "E betzli meh - fö e rondom guets Gfühl" ("A little bit more - for a good feeling"). "We are an Appenzell company and the majority of our customers come from Eastern Switzerland. Why shouldn't we also publish a brochure in our dialect?" says Mike Bregg, Operations Manager at Scheidweg-Garage.

With the dialect brochure, the Scheidweg garage wants to build a personal relationship with its customers and clearly set itself apart from its competitors. "We've only received positive feedback so far and some people come by just to pick up a copy," says Bregg.

And this is how the Scheidweg garage describes itself in the brochure: "Öseri Garage is auf em neueschte Stand ond macht als Servicepartner fö VW, Audi, Skoda und VW-Notzfahrzüg meh als gad e gueti Falle". To ensure that every sentence is correct, Hype had the text translated and corrected by Joe Manser, an icon of the Innerrhoden dialect.

The leaflet is full of regional specialties. As not everyone will understand all the text straight away, there is also a page with "a little help for those who don't understand everything". And for those who still only understand Audi, VW and Skoda despite the small translation aid, there is an online Scheidweg-garage.ch/fotege the complete text in High German.

CRK and Aroma win mandate for "renewable heating" program

The communications agency CRK is handling the PR and communications work for EnergieSchweiz as part of the «renewable heating» program, supported by Aroma. The program aims to promote domestic, renewable heating technologies.

alternativheizen

CRK, with offices in Basel, Bern and Zurich, was successful in a multi-stage process for the "renewable heating" program of the Swiss Federal Office of Energy. Over the next five years, the agency will use an information and awareness campaign to help achieve the goal of reducing CO2 emissions in the building sector by 80 percent by 2050.

Private and institutional building owners, intermediaries and implementers are to promote the share of indigenous, renewable technologies for heat generation in Swiss households through voluntary measures. The program will be launched in January 2020 at Switzerland's most important construction trade fair, Swissbau in Basel. For the implementation of all trade fairs, CRK can count on the support and expertise of its partner Aroma.
