Pixels launches digital campaign for IWB Telekom

Pixels created a digital campaign for the Basel-based energy service provider IWB. The agency from Sempach managed the IWB Telekom division holistically, from user experience to Google and social media ads to design and copy.

For business customers, IWB Telekom offers a fast and reliable Internet subscription. This was to be communicated on the website as well as via a digital campaign. Pixels provided holistic digital support for the mandate.

Thus, the user experience of the website was analyzed and corresponding wireframes for the redesign were designed. Pixels created new, SEO-optimized texts for the main and subpages of the website.

In addition, the existing key visual was expanded through motion design and used for a large-scale campaign on Google, Facebook, Instagram and LinkedIn. Target group-specific texts were also created and evaluated for this. Thus, the agency was able to cover the complete digital range for IWB Telekom and make the offer known in the target group - companies and start-ups.

Initiative against tobacco advertising achieved

The popular initiative "Yes to protecting children and adolescents from tobacco advertising" has been formally launched. The initiative committee, consisting of various health organizations, has submitted sufficient valid signatures to the Federal Chancellery.

Of the total 110,316 signatures submitted, 109,969 are valid, the Federal Chancellery announced after verification on Friday. The signatures were submitted on September 12 (Werbewoche.ch reported).

The initiative calls for a complete ban on tobacco advertising that reaches children or young people. Specifically, cigarette advertising on billboards in public spaces is to be banned throughout Switzerland.

"Children and adolescents are particularly susceptible to the dream worlds, coolness and success conveyed in advertising," Philippe Luchsinger, president of Family Doctors Switzerland, was quoted as saying in a committee statement when the signatures were submitted. Therefore, it is important to protect this age group from advertising, he said.

According to the Swiss Medical Association FMH, around 60 percent of smokers start as minors. If smoking was not started before the age of 18, the probability of remaining a non-smoker is high.

Tailwind from the Council of States

The initiators recently received support from the Council of States. In the fall session, it passed a law that provides for additional advertising bans for cigarettes in the press and on the Internet. Today, tobacco advertising is banned on radio and television. Advertising for tobacco products aimed specifically at young people is also prohibited.

A first attempt at a new Tobacco Products Act failed in parliament in 2016. In a second attempt, the Federal Council initially also envisaged advertising restrictions. However, following criticism in the consultation process, it deleted these. (SDA)

Not everything protects against hail: Eicon advertises the hail register

If you use the right materials, you have little to fear from hail—but if you use the wrong ones, you have more to worry about. With a compelling message and tattered everyday objects, the Eicon agency is promoting the Hail Registry on behalf of the VKF.

An umbrella won't protect you, nor will a plastic folder - when it hails, only the right material will help. With this simple but plausible statement, the Association of Cantonal Fire Insurers VKF advertises hagelregister.ch, where architects and planners can find out about hail-tested building materials.

Every year, hailstorms cause an average of CHF 150 million in damage in Switzerland. "Many of these could be prevented - if the building envelope is built to be hail-proof," says Martin Jordi from the Association of Cantonal Fire Insurers VKF.

The current campaign, which includes an animated video clip, print advertisements and online banners as well as an information flyer, aims to raise awareness of the hail register.

E-books: No more growth in Germany

A survey conducted by the Berlin-based digital industry association BITKOM among 1,004 people aged 16 and older shows that while many people read e-books, there is no sign of a breakthrough with rising growth figures in Germany.

kindle-1867751_1280

As the news portal Pressetext.com writes on Thursday, the market continues to stagnate. According to the survey, only every fourth person (26 percent) reaches for digital books. Thus, the share of e-book readers remains at the level of previous years. The figure was already 24 percent in 2014.

No new readers

"E-books have real fans, but no new ones are being added. For many readers, digital books have added value, but they are hardly replacing printed titles," says BITKOM President Achim Berg, commenting on the results of the survey. Nevertheless, just over a third of non-users (35 percent) can imagine reading e-books in the future.

The most popular output device for e-books is the e-reader, with a good three-quarters of users (77 percent) using it for private or professional reading. One in two now reads via smartphone, followed by tablet computer (38 percent), laptop (23 percent) and desktop PC (three percent).

Younger people in particular read digital books: 47 percent of 16- to 29-year-olds use e-books. Among 30- to 49-year-olds and 50- to 64-year-olds, the figure is 26 percent each. In the 65+ age group, the proportion of e-book users is ten percent. (pte)

RTS La 1ère and Le Temps are the most credible media brands in Switzerland

Two media brands from French-speaking Switzerland are considered the most credible media outlets in the country. At the top of the list is SRG Radio La 1ère, followed by the daily newspaper Le Temps. In general, traditional media brands are held in high regard by the public. The Swiss population considers social media to be less credible.

mediaBrands-2019

The top media brands in Switzerland 2019. Listed are the media brands that were rated by their users with the highest value achieved across Switzerland in the respective dimension. (Minimum number of cases: n=50)

This is the result of the latest Mediabrands study by Publicom. Publicom has been measuring the brand images of Swiss media brands every year since 2013. With over 4,800 interviews and 172 media brands included, mediaBrands is the largest qualitative media study in Switzerland. It analyzes the assessment of media brands by the population in all language regions.

In terms of the quality criterion "credibility", this year the RTS radio station La 1ère and the traditional newspaper Le Temps The Swiss population ranked SRF 4 News at the top of the nationwide ranking - ahead of last year's frontrunner SRF 4 News. The Swiss population considers social media to be less credible, especially Facebook, which once again came in last place this year, lagging far behind.

Credible regional newspapers and SRG media

mediaBrands cannot confirm the often claimed loss of media credibility. On the contrary, the average credibility of media brands is unchanged compared to 2018 and previous years. The Swiss population continues to consider regional, subscription-based daily newspapers and publicly funded radio and television stations to be particularly credible. In general, the Swiss trust domestic media far more than foreign media. ARD is the only foreign medium to make it into the top 50 most credible media brands. (Regional) Swiss media brands are also ahead in terms of other journalistic and functional quality features: La 1ère leads the ranking in two other quality dimensions (relevance of information and utility value). Further absolute top positions are occupied by New Zurich Newspaper (competence), the bilingual regional television station TeleBielingue (proximity to the audience), the newcomer Republik.ch (uniqueness), SRF Virus (youthfulness) and SRF Musikwelle (entertainment value). The Ticino SRG television channel RSI LA 1 creates the strongest brand loyalty. The Fribourg daily newspaper La Liberté achieved the highest popularity rating. Of the global internet offerings, only YouTube and Instagram achieved top rankings in the dimensions of entertainment value and youthfulness respectively.

Magazines and cinema suffer the most from digitization

In addition to individual brand profiles, mediaBrands also tracks general usage trends. Digitalization continues to leave its mark. Magazines in particular are experiencing a noticeable loss in reach, having lost five percent since 2017. Cinema is suffering from Netflix and other streaming services and has lost three percent of its reach in the last two years. Newspapers are holding up comparatively well, but their use is increasingly shifting to digital editions, even though the majority of the population still (also) reads newspapers in paper form. Those who only consume newspapers digitally still form a small minority.

Quartalsreichweiten MB19

Every year, Publicom uses the Mediabrands study to determine the brand performance of media brands among the Swiss population. The data is used for qualitative media planning, among other things. The 2019 survey was conducted in May and June and is based on a representative sample of 4,839 people aged 15-79. The statistical margin of error is +/- 1.4%.

Roger Baur hands over the management of IAB Switzerland

After almost eleven years, Roger Baur, Managing Director of IAB Switzerland, has decided to focus more on his mandate work again. He will hand over the management of the association at the next general meeting in spring 2020. The board of IAB Switzerland is currently examining various options for a successor.

Foto-Roger-Baur

Roger Baur has served as Managing Director of IAB Switzerland since its founding in 2009. Almost eleven years ago, the founders of IAB Switzerland were keen to support the Swiss market in its development in digital marketing and to set uniform standards. Over the years, not only the number of members increased, but other important initiatives were launched due to Roger Baur's commitment:

His achievements include the establishment of the IAB Academy. Every year, almost 150 graduates are trained in the basic, advanced and special courses of the IAB Academy. Only recently, the IAB Academy was able to communicate another milestone: The partner associations IAB Switzerland, iab austria, and the Bundesverband Digitale Wirtschaft e.V. joined forces and launched a transnational Academy diploma starting in 2020.

Together with the IAB team, Roger Baur steadily drove international cooperation in the form of the Swiss country pavilion at the annual world trade fair for digital marketing in Cologne, dmexco.

On a national basis, he created the possibility for neutral platforms for exchange and knowledge transfer with the IAB Switzerland. This includes the annual Digital Marketing Award of the IAB Switzerland, as well as successful events such as the Programmatic Advertising Day, the Online Career Day, and the DEX - Digital Experience Conference, which could be initiated through his commitment.

A continuation as a board member will be put to the members for election at the next general meeting.

Sir Mary and Tamedia have continued the colorfully illustrated summer campaign "A lot happens in 3 months". The cover of 20 minutes on October 07 was all about the election fall: on it, the reader learned, among other things, that the oldest eligible voters are more likely to vote than the youngest, and that over 178,000 Swiss votes come from abroad.

The illustrated front pages advertised a new mobile subscription promotion nationwide with election facts that varied by region in some cases. Mobile subscriptions to the Zurichsee-Zeitung, Zürcher Unterländer, The Land messenger, 24 heures, and Tribune de Genève.

In selecting the topics, Sir Mary again worked closely with journalists from the respective titles. 18 election facts were selected, some of which were adapted to suit their regions of operation. In addition, the facts not only adorn the covers of nationwide 20 minutesbut also as digital ads on Tamedia platforms and social media. Further measures are to follow.

Social media convey unrealistic image of parents

Social media creates misleading images of perfect families, driving parents to despair. According to a survey by the non-profit organization Home-Start Scotland, parents feel increasingly pressured.

depression-3561979_1280

Many parents feel pressured by the ideals conveyed by images on Facebook and Instagram, but don't ask for help - often out of shame.

"Parents must be authentic"

"This pressure has always been there. It already starts in the nursery, where some children learn certain things faster than others. But because parents are confronted with exaggerated ideals several times a day via their smartphones, it's becoming more intense today. But instead of being perfect, parents should rather be authentic, because only then can children learn something. They have to approach their children and not pretend that problems don't exist," advises Veronika Lippert, chairwoman of Elternwerkstatt, in an interview with the Pressetext news agency.

Home-Start Scotland surveyed 1500 parents for the study. 62 percent of respondents feel pressured by social media. Half believe that parents are ashamed of not being able to live up to the ideals set there and therefore don't dare ask for help when they feel overwhelmed.

According to Home-Start Scotland, parents typically do not seek counseling for problems until after six to nine months.

Social media are "rose-colored glasses"

"Many people don't feel able to talk openly about problems with children. Parents are under pressure to be perfect. Instagram, Facebook and other social platforms present reality through rose-colored glasses and show an unattainable image of perfect parents," the study says.

The authors emphasize that parents must seek advice if they feel overwhelmed. They should not base their goals on the unrealistic images they see in social media. (pte)

Essence 19 honors the best Swiss graphic designers

At «Essence 19 – Best of Swiss Graphic Design,» the SGV (Swiss Graphic Designers Association) gave the best graphic designers the opportunity to showcase their work through style-defining and forward-looking pieces. On Friday, the award was presented for the third time at the Neubad in Lucerne.

essence19_Preisverleihung_2

This year's awards included prizes for the rebranding of Zurich Tourism, IKEA's online magazine "Lifeathome.ch" and independent projects such as the small "Palais" gallery in Neuchâtel. The SGV Members' Award went to the poster series for the Théatre des Marionettes de Genève.

The award ceremony, held in conjunction with the Weltformat Graphic Design Festival, was also the vernissage for the publication "Essence 19" with all the award-winning works. According to SGV President Lisa Leuch, Essence is the design award for the best contemporary Swiss graphic design, which is intended to give new impetus to Switzerland as a design location. Judging took place in the categories Design, Illustration, Interactive and Motion.

Difficult decisions

Once again, the judging process was not easy for the expert jury. In a positive sense, of course. Fortunately, the level of design and the conceptual quality of the work submitted to the third edition of Essence was again remarkably high. Accordingly, the submissions were discussed in depth and candidates for the coveted awards were thoroughly examined. And the final result was correspondingly pleasing.

Twice gold

From a total of 21 shortlisted nominations, eight works were selected as bronze and four as silver. The renowned jury was particularly pleased that two submissions were honored with a gold award.

All awards and shortlist nominations are now summarized in the "Essence 19" publication, including detailed project descriptions and an excerpt from the jury report, reflecting the high standard of this year's submissions.

"With our brochure in particular, Essence aims to publish and celebrate a representative cross-section of current Swiss graphic design and preserve it for the future," says Essence jury president Daniel Bieri. "Despite intensive discussion, it was possible for the jury to award gold to two works this year. Now we hope that this signal will be received by designers and clients, in order to provide positive impetus next year as motivation, as an extra bit of innovative power, so to speak."

The nominated and award-winning works and the prize winners can be viewed online or ordered as a publication at: essence.sgv.ch
