End for the weekly newspapers Surentaler and Oberwiggertaler

Zofingen-based ZT Medien AG is withdrawing from the Surental and Oberwiggertal regions, which are part of the canton of Lucerne. The publishing house announced on Monday that it is discontinuing the two free weekly newspapers, the *Surentaler* and the *Oberwiggertaler*, for economic reasons.

Accordingly, the two papers will appear for the last time on Thursday. Despite intensive efforts, the Surentaler and the Oberwiggertaler have not been successful in their range, the statement said.

The two weekly newspapers had been distributed free of charge to all households on Thursdays in 14 communities in the Surental valley and in 19 communities in the Oberwigg valley. Their discontinuation entails a reduction of 4.2 jobs.

ZT Medien AG employs a total of 230 people. The flagship is the Zofinger Tagblatt. (SDA)

The Sistine Madonna in the prefabricated building

Art is at home in Dresden: To mark the festive reopening of the Semper Building at the Zwinger, Scholz & Friends developed a campaign that highlights the close bond Dresdeners share with the masterpieces in their collections. To this end, the agency is bringing some of the city’s greatest works of art into the homes of ordinary Dresden residents.

The people of Dresden have a special relationship with "their" art. The "Sistine Madonna" and the "Slumbering Venus" are at least as important to the identity of the people of Dresden as the Frauenkirche or the Zwinger. But what actually happens to the world-famous paintings when the museum is closed for renovation and the construction workers arrive with jackhammers? What if they don't go into storage, well packed and guarded, but into people's homes?

For the opening campaign of the Gemäldegalerie Alte Meister (Old Masters Picture Gallery) and the Skulpturensammlung bis 1800 (Sculpture Collection up to 1800) in Dresden, Scholz & Friends hung some of the world's most valuable paintings on the walls of Dresden residents - with a little digital help. While the originals were kept protected, the agency used reproductions.

Doreen Scherfke, Marketing Director of the Dresden State Art Collections: "Art never stands on its own, art always needs a connection to people. That's why our reopening campaign focuses on the special relationship between the people of Dresden and "their" art."

Peter Rigaud photographed the motifs in private rooms of people who feel closely connected to the Gemäldegalerie. So what you see are real Dresden apartments instead of staged sets.

The campaign runs during the complete closure of the Semper Building for renovation. The motifs can be seen as OOH posters in five German cities, and print ads were also placed in tourism and art magazines. Online, the motifs are published on the social media channels of the State Art Collections as well as banners on online art magazines.

For the reopening on February 28, 2020, the paintings will once again hang where they have belonged since 1855: In the Old Masters Picture Gallery in the Semper Building in Dresden.

Uber puts billboards on drivers' roofs

The U.S. ride-hailing company Uber plans to place illuminated advertising displays on the roofs of its drivers' cars in the United States. To this end, the company is partnering with the agency Adomni. The program will initially be tested in the United States and will pay participants $300 each.

The new "Uber OOH Powered by Adomni" division is testing the ads in the cities of Atlanta, Dallas and Phoenix. Every driver who participates in the program will be rewarded with 300 dollars.

"Rolling poster"

"This is a very interesting and innovative concept. It often happens that cars are lettered and thus become billboards on wheels, but illuminated advertising on the roof is even more eye-catching. The concept can also work in Europe, especially in large cities. Traditional cab companies will also look at this with great interest," says marketing expert Felix Murbach in an interview with the news portal Pressetext.

After the test phase, the Uber drivers participating in the program will be paid weekly according to the number of hours driven. For example, they currently receive 100 dollars if they have driven more than 20 hours in a week with the advertisement on the roof.

The goal is profitability

The displays will each show advertising images or videos for eight seconds before changing again. The ads will also be adapted to the time of day and the location of the Uber vehicle. Uber wants to finally become profitable in the fourth quarter of 2020 after the company continued to lose money in 2019. Advertising is intended to help Uber achieve this goal. However, Uber is not alone with this concept. Rival Lyft also recently announced that it will soon be offering its drivers similar advertising deals. (pte/swi)

Kreisvier celebrates "125 Joor BVB

In 2020, Basler Verkehrs-Betriebe (BVB) celebrated its 125th anniversary. Following the pitch decision in mid-2019, Kreisvier was commissioned to develop the anniversary logo—in which the number «125» symbolizes the transit network with its routes and hubs—as well as many other initiatives and promotional materials for the anniversary year.

The logo adorns the exteriors of various buses and streetcars. The anniversary streetcar is particularly eye-catching: It is covered all around with the anniversary motto as well as portrait photos of employees and passengers. The backrest stickers and hanging boxes in this streetcar inform "big and small" about historical events of BVB, whereby the little ones are probably most pleased about the Basel hidden object picture.

In order to present the BVB story and information in a way that is suitable for children, Kreisvier also conceived and designed the "Mini-Binggis-Zytig", with coloring and puzzle fun all about buses and streetcars. In addition, there is an anniversary pin, a VIP invitation, event posters and much more, which the agency is not yet allowed to reveal at this point.

Half to three quarters of companies use social media

According to Eurostat, half of all companies in the EU use social media. According to the Federal Statistical Office (FSO), this also corresponds to the average in Switzerland. In eleven European countries - three of which are outside the EU - usage is as high as three quarters.

growth-socialmedia-998990_1280

The frontrunner is Malta: 84% of all companies there say they use the economic potential of social platforms. This is followed by Denmark, the Netherlands, Cyprus, Sweden, Belgium, Ireland and Finland with a descending 75 to 71 percent. Social media are comparatively unpopular in companies in Romania, Bulgaria, Poland and Hungary, where 33 to 38 percent of companies make use of them.

Companies have made extreme progress in the last five years when it comes to integrating social media. This is shown by figures published by the EU's statistical office (Eurostat) on Tuesday. British companies were among the most diligent, increasing their use of social media from 44% in 2014 to 72% in 2019. Similar growth rates were also achieved in Denmark, Sweden and Finland.

In Switzerland, the use of social media increased from 38% in 2015 to 50% in 2017 (FSO). This development is pretty much in line with the EU average.

Greece, Spain, Croatia, Portugal and Slovenia saw a similarly slow increase in this respect (from just under 40% to just over 50%). The increase in Iceland was also relatively low at 12%. However, companies in this country had already reached a very high level of social media use in 2015 (63%). (SDA)

French-speaking cantons to take joint approach to press promotion

According to Geneva city councillor Sami Kanaan (SP), the French-speaking cantons should coordinate better when it comes to press funding. He envisions a model based on the French-speaking Swiss Cinema Foundation (Fondation romande pour le cinéma).

Presse_Zeitungen_gestapelt

At the moment, everyone is cooking their own soup, he said in an interview with the daily newspaper Le Temps on Tuesday. There is regular contact between the cantons of Geneva and Vaud in this area, particularly within the framework of the Conference of French-speaking Swiss Governments. However, the SP politician sees room for improvement. A corresponding meeting will take place shortly.

Meanwhile, the city of Geneva has taken its own measures to help the beleaguered sector. The package agreed on Monday amounts to around 80,000 francs.

The most concrete measure is the abolition of charges for newspaper boxes from the beginning of June. There are around 800 such boxes in the city. In 2018, the City of Geneva collected around CHF 40,000 from this fee.

In mid-January, the cantonal government of Vaud presented its press promotion plan. The canton intends to support local and regional media with CHF 6.2 million over the next five years. The cantonal parliament still has to approve the plan. (SDA)

Bots author one in four climate denier tweets

A quarter of the tweets on climate change are not posted by humans, but by automated bots. These digitally generated messages show a clear tendency to deny the increasing destruction of the environment caused by humans. This is the finding of a study by Brown University.

chatbot-4736275_1280-(1)

"You can recognize bots by various characteristics: for example, they are always active at the same time of day and always post the same number of tweets. When it comes to content, they have no empathy, they don't react to anything, they just disseminate synchronized messages. In addition, their profile contains no traceable personal information. Another typical characteristic of bots is that they usually follow each other and amplify each other's reach; they always appear in swarms," explains communications expert Christian Scherg in an interview with the news portal Pressetext.

The researchers analyzed 6.5 million tweets that were written around 1 June 2017, when US President Donald Trump announced that the USA would withdraw from the Paris Agreement. They used a tool from the University of Indiana called "Botometer", which measures the probability that a bot is behind a tweet. A large proportion of the tweets applauding Trump's decision to withdraw from the climate agreement turned out to be automatically generated.

"Trust is being shaken"

The bots are software that can independently create posts and like or retweet posts from other accounts. They pretend to be human Twitter users. Bots were responsible for around 25 percent of tweets on the topic of the climate crisis during the period under investigation. The figure was even higher for other topics, such as "fake science" (38%).

The researchers warn against the spread of fake news by Twitter bots. There is relative scientific consensus on the existence of climate change. "Not only is it dangerous that people could believe this misinformation, but also that its very existence can shake people's confidence in accurate information," the Guardian quotes study leader Thomas Marlow. The answer realized interactive film against domestic violence for the Kapo Zurich

As part of intensified prevention efforts regarding domestic violence, the Zurich Cantonal Police commissioned the agency Die Antwort to produce an educational film. The result is an interactive film in which viewers can decide whose story—the victim’s, the perpetrator’s, or the bystander’s—they want to see.

Die Antwort_KapoZürich_InteraktiverFilm

The figures on domestic violence in Switzerland are shocking: in 2018, 20 Swiss children's hospitals reported 1502 cases of child abuse, there are 50 domestic assaults every day in Switzerland, and the Zurich cantonal police alone are called out twelve times a day due to domestic violence. And every two weeks, one person in Switzerland - mostly women and girls - dies as a result of domestic violence.

The film is intended to make it easier for those affected (perpetrators, victims and observers) to access information about help and advice services. The film is also subtitled in eight foreign languages.

The protagonists in the film are Kapo employees and actors. The male lead role is played by Dani Mangisch, who is known from his roles in Wilder, Flitzer and Zwingli, among others.
