The Geneva Motor Show is canceled - three days before the start

The 90th edition of the Geneva International Motor Show (GIMS), which was scheduled to welcome media representatives starting next Monday and the general public from March 5 to 15, 2020, will not take place.

Der Genfer Autosalon

It is an order of the Federal Council of February 28, 2020, that no events with more than 1,000 people may take place until March 15, 2020. The sanction was issued three days before the opening of the GIMS for the media representatives.

The organizers accept this decision: "We regret this situation, but the health of all participants is an absolute priority for us and our exhibitors. This is a case of force majeure. For the exhibitors, who have invested massively in their presence in Geneva, this is a bitter loss. However, we are convinced that all those affected will understand this decision. We thank all those who have worked hard to make this 90th edition a reality. GIMS 2020 could have been a great event," Maurice Turrettini, president of the Foundation Board, said in a statement Friday.

It would have been only a few days until the opening of the event and the construction of the stands was almost completed, the statement continued. Just a week ago, during the press conferences announcing the 2020 edition, there had been nothing to suggest that such a measure might be necessary. The situation changed, it said, with the appearance of the first confirmed illnesses caused by the coronavirus in Switzerland and the Federal Council's order of Feb. 28, 2020. The event is cancelled due to this decision.

Now the dismantling has to be organized. The financial consequences for all those involved in the event are considerable and will be assessed in the coming weeks. One thing is already certain: the tickets sold for the event will be refunded. The organizers will inform about the procedure on their website as soon as possible.

Geneva decides on 5G moratorium for three years

The canton of Geneva is introducing a three-year moratorium on the 4G+ and 5G generations of mobile communications. The amendment to the law stipulates that all new antennas are subject to approval during this period.

Genf beschliesst 5G-Moratorium

This was decided by the Grand Council on Thursday evening with 60 votes in favor, 35 against and one abstention. However, the responsible State Councillor Antonio Hodgers (Greens) pointed out the confusion surrounding the terms 4G+, 5G and the 5G millimetre wave frequency range, which is not yet used in Switzerland.

"If you want, the state will refuse any antenna conversion for three years, but it will do so without any legal basis. There is a great risk that this law will be overturned by a court," Hodgers told the Grand Council. The canton had already introduced a moratorium on the installation of new antennas last year. However, the operators are adapting their antennas to enable 4G+, the State Councillor continued.

In addition, Geneva, like the canton of Neuchâtel, is calling for a nationwide moratorium on the new 5G millimeter wave frequency range. The Grand Council approved a corresponding cantonal initiative with 56 votes in favor and 36 against. (SDA)

The Schellenberg Group, a leading Swiss printing company based in Pfäffikon, Canton of Zurich, is acquiring a majority stake in Effingermedien, based in Brugg, Canton of Aargau.

The Schellenberg Group announced on Thursday that the graphic arts industry is characterized by overcapacities and a massive price and predatory struggle. The alliance with a strong partner offers significantly better prospects for the future.

The Schellenberg Group comprises companies in the print and media industry at several locations in Switzerland. The company, presided over by owner Oskar Schellenberg, is taking over the majority of shares in Effingermedien with retroactive effect from January 1, 2020.

Effingermedien, based in Brugg, employs around 110 people, including 10 apprentices in polygraphy, printing technology and print media processing. The company operates throughout German-speaking Switzerland. (SDA)

Swiss Marketing postpones exams due to coronavirus

Swiss Marketing is postponing the written exams for marketing and sales professionals originally scheduled for March 9 and 10.

swissmarketing

Against the backdrop of the spreading coronavirus, the Federal Council today, Friday, February 28, issued a ban on events for more than 1,000 people. Over 1,100 candidates have registered for this year's examinations for marketing and sales specialists. Due to this fact, the written examinations for marketing and sales specialists on March 9 and 10, 2020 in the Olma-Hallen, St. Gallen, have to be cancelled.

The Marketing and Sales Examination Committees are currently looking for rescheduled dates for the written examinations. They are monitoring and assessing the situation on an ongoing basis and will provide information on further developments and the resulting decisions in due course.

The oral exams in Lucerne are not affected by this cancellation.

Scholz & Friends presents new corporate design

As part of its strategic realignment, the Scholz & Friends Group is unveiling its new corporate design. In addition to a modern look and feel, the agency is also setting new trends in the digital realm with its new logo.

ScholzFriends_Logo_1920x1080px_300ppi

After almost two decades with only minor revisions, the corporate design of Scholz & Friends gets a new face. The creative combination of all elements of the agency name in the logo is intended to strengthen the international recognizability of the Scholz & Friends brand and ensure visual conciseness on the web.

Frank-Michael Schmidt, CEO Scholz & Friends Group: "The key points of the new era of our agency group are to strengthen the Scholz & Friends brand, to increase our international presence and to develop new solutions for the digital world. The new corporate design is a visible sign of this strategic reorientation. The new S&F icon, which focuses the Scholz & Friends brand in one sign, also strengthens the conciseness and variability of our brand presence. In addition, the following applies: We remain yellow, we remain different," says Frank-Michael Schmidt, CEO of the Scholz & Friends Group.

Yellow thus remains the central color of the agency group's corporate identity. In addition, there is a new agency font and a new logo. "The starting point for the new brand design was the question of how we could get to the heart of our identity visually in the smallest possible space," says Olivier Nowak, Head of Design at Scholz & Friends Identify, explaining the start of the creative relaunch. The visual result is a monogram made up of the initial letters "S" and "F", which form the "&" sign on a yellow background.

The roll-out of the new corporate design has been taking place successively across all touchpoints of the Scholz & Friends Group since Thursday.

Valencia plunges into herb garden adventure for Coop

Coop is kicking off spring with «Adventure Herb Garden»—featuring plush reversible animals and seed balls for kitchen herbs. Valencia is handling the marketing for the collectible promotion.

VAL_Case_Coop_Gartenzauber__F12

Among other things, three reversible plush animals can be snatched up in the spring collection campaign. The inside of the figures can be turned inside out, turning a butterfly into a caterpillar, a bee into a sunflower and a ladybug into a lucky clover. Other collectible rewards include four different seed balls and colorful plant pots.

Valencia Kommunikation was entrusted with the entire promotion of the collection campaign. An entertaining TV spot in two different lengths sets the scene for the articles in the context of a children's magic show. In addition, an online package of measures tailored to the individual channels was developed. On YouTube, three bumper spots put the spotlight on the various premiums. Short spots tailored to the target group were developed especially for use in social media channels, and an appropriately designed Brand Day was to attract attention on various news portals. In addition to a concise visual, the order also included various POS advertising materials, as well as a collector's booklet and a mailing.

The promotion will run from Friday in Coop supermarkets as well as Coop City, Coop Bau+Hobby, Coop@home and Coop Restaurant. Customers receive 1 collector's stamp for every 10 francs purchased.

An appetizing wash

McDonald’s and DDB Prague are promoting their newly launched delivery service in a clever way—with visuals that depict both the problem and the solution.

header-mcd_skipthedishes_bm_en_resized

The decision to order food can come from a variety of reasons: You don't have any food at home, you're too tired, or you simply don't have the time. Quite often, however, it's also because you simply don't feel like it - and not even for the cooking itself, but for what comes afterwards. While some people consider washing up to be something calming and meditative, many people dread it.

DDB Prague also recognized this and unceremoniously incorporated it into their campaign for McDonald's: Stacked pans and plates create a Big Mac, bowls and cutlery form a portion of fries, and glasses, napkins and a citrus squeezer transform into a McSundae. This visually appealing setup is sure to be happily left in the sink a little longer.

"How to protect ourselves": FOPH launches coronavirus information campaign

The Federal Office of Public Health has launched a campaign with hygiene and behavioral rules to prevent or slow down the spread of the new coronavirus.

BAG_Werbemittel_MK_CoronaVirus_A3_297x420_d

As a first step, the campaign points out three important rules of hygiene and behavior. Hands must be washed thoroughly and regularly, coughing and sneezing should be done in the crook of your arm or in a handkerchief, and as soon as you have symptoms such as a fever or cough, you should stay at home.

As an immediate measure, flyers will be distributed at border crossings with Italy, major railroad stations and highway service stations. In addition, posters will inform border crossers and travelers about important rules of conduct.

In addition, advertisements with the three rules of conduct and hygiene will appear in various newspapers from Friday to inform the general public. Moving image advertising media on television and online as well as digital posters will follow at the beginning of next week. The website Bag-coronavirus.ch will also be launched shortly.

For companies and organizations, the advertising material is available online as a PDF and can be ordered. As the situation is constantly changing and the advertising materials are regularly updated, they are marked with a date.

If additional measures are necessary, the FOPH will use additional pictograms to communicate new hygiene and behavioral rules. The advertising material, which is currently still yellow, will then be published in red to highlight the novelty value of the information.

The campaign was created by Rod Kommunikation. The agency has implemented the campaign over the past two weeks. Jung von Matt/Limmat, Wirz and Saatchi&Saatchi were actually also invited to pitch, but the three agencies withdrew for capacity reasons, as Andrea Mussato from EDI explained when asked by Werbewoche.ch. Due to the urgency of the matter, the mandate was not put out to public tender. (pd/swi)
