Press Council rejects Bombardier's complaint against "Rundschau

The Press Council has dismissed a complaint filed by train manufacturer Bombardier against SRF’s political magazine «Rundschau.» In May 2019, the magazine had reported on production defects in the new SBB long-distance trains.

rundschau_mai_2019_bombardier

The "Rundschau" relied heavily on photos from the end of 2017, which documented damage such as broken cables or loose screws. In addition, anonymous employees raised accusations against their employer: there was a lack of expertise, work was done improperly, and even necessary tools were missing. They were therefore concerned about the long-term safety of these trains.

The "Rundschau" confronted the manufacturer with these serious accusations on a Friday morning. Bombardier let almost two working days (plus a weekend) pass for the answer. On the day before the broadcast, Bombardier had then complained that there was not enough time to view the documents seriously. Without having seen the photos and quotes of the insiders, Bombardier finally sent a written statement to the "Rundschau".

Bombardier claimed to the Press Council that "Rundschau" had reported untruthfully and had violated its duty to hear the case. According to the train manufacturer, SRF had not mentioned the correct production phase of the damaged trains. The superimposed images would show damage to test trains in the refitting process.

The Press Council did not consider the duty to tell the truth to have been violated because the "Rundschau" was able to substantiate its allegations. The duty to hear Bombardier was also not violated. The manufacturer had recognized the details of the accusations at an early stage and had the opportunity to counter them precisely. However, the company had refrained from doing so. The "Rundschau" was admonished, however, that it would have been desirable to question the damage pictures and to name the phases of production more precisely to the viewers.

Sebastian Dürst takes over as head of Glarus News

Sebastian Dürst will succeed Rolf Hösli as editor-in-chief of the Glarner Nachrichten / Südostschweiz. He will take office on June 1.

Portraetbild-SebastianDürst

The 31-year-old is currently chief of staff at the Glarus News, the Glarus regional edition of the Südostschweiz, and takes over as editorial director as of June 1. This will guarantee a seamless transition from his predecessor Rolf Hösli. Hösli is leaving Somedia after almost 32 years, becoming the new sports promoter of the canton of Glarus, as announced in December.

Dürst studied at the universities of Basel, Zurich, Lucerne and Fribourg and graduated in 2015 with a Master of Arts in Religion - Economics - Politics. He has worked for various newspapers since 2005, including the Tages-Anzeiger and at the Basler Zeitung. In 2017, he was honored by the trade magazine Swiss journalist named "Top 30 Under 30 Journalists" talent.

Due to the current difficult situation in connection with the coronavirus, no regular application procedure could be carried out for the time being. This will probably be made up for in the second half of the year. Dürst is therefore filling the position of editorial director on an interim basis until the end of December 2020.

Tamedia workforce demands savings contribution from management

Following TX Group’s announcement on Friday that it would introduce short-time work, Tamedia employees issued an open letter on Monday. In it, they criticize the fact that the staff committees (Peko) were not consulted and set out their expectations for management.

txgroup

The company had announced that employees' workloads would be cut by at least 10 percent. Where possible, more could also be cut. The staff was surprised by the announcement, it wrote in Monday's letter.

Contrary to what short-time work would imply, there is no question of less work, they say. In some areas, there is not less work to be done, but even more. The population's need for up-to-date information is great.

The workforce is demanding a public declaration from management as to what financial contribution it is prepared to make - for example by foregoing bonuses. Shareholders should also contribute to the financial stabilization of the company in the form of a sharply reduced dividend in 2020.

TX Group expects advertising revenues to fall by a mid-double-digit million figure by the end of the year. This cannot be nearly compensated by the good development in the digital area, as the company announced on Friday. (SDA)

The company is making more than 12,000 recipes from all 120 cookbooks published since 1973 available digitally and free of charge in one go - a first in the history of Betty Bossi. Managing Director Lars Feldmann explains the reason for this: "We want to provide support in challenging everyday life, help people to enjoy moments of happiness and thus bring a ray of hope into the challenging times at home." This includes the joy of cooking and baking together as well as the pleasure of a successful meal.

All cookbooks are now available as digital flip catalogs on the Betty Bossi website for the coming weeks. A search field can be used to browse for popular dishes in the individual cookbook flip page catalogs or in the entire digital recipe database.

Many recipes for children

Children are at home too and want to be kept busy. That's why Betty Bossi also publishes dozens of children's recipes to cook yourself or cook along with them. There is also a special newsletter and daily cooking and baking inspiration on social media under the hashtag #BettyKochtMitDir. All information about the "Betty cooks with you!" recipe initiative can be found at Bettybossi.ch available.

Delayed print newspapers due to lack of newspaper carriers

Many newspaper carriers are of advanced age and should not be performing their work at this time due to the risk of Corona infection. For this reason, there may be delays in the delivery of print newspapers in the coming weeks.

How the View writes in Saturday's edition, fewer newspaper carriers are currently on the road because of the Corona threat. The newspapers are distributed "sometimes late or not at all".

Also the NZZ advises its subscribers of possible delays. Both publishers advise their readers to switch to the e-paper for this period. (SDA)

Havas gives Cantadou a fresh look

Havas has developed a new brand strategy for Cantadou on behalf of Bel Suisse and will be responsible for the creative work and campaigns for the individual brands going forward.

CTD_Header

Bel Suisse includes the Cantadou, Kiri, Leerdammer, Babybel, Boursin and La-vache-qui-rit brands. The Cantadou brand has already existed in the Swiss fresh cheese market for over 40 years. The challenge now is to make the brand more attractive to a younger audience. Cantadou stands for freshness, Provence and cozy get-togethers. These attributes had to be retained when the positioning and brand promise were revised. In close exchange with Cantadou, Havas repositioned the brand and revitalized it with a radical re-branding.

The focus is on the different products and the people who enjoy them. At the heart of the campaign are advertisements and various stop-motion videos, which will be shown on TV, on social media and on the newly designed Website can be switched. The clips show how to celebrate the most important holidays of the year with Cantadou. Provence and Cantadou's typical joie-de-vivre always subtly resonate through the colors and music.

Responsible at Bel Suisse: Tom Brzovic (Commercial Director); Zuzana Kresova (Group Brand Manager); Elodie Dayot (Senior Brand Manager); Veronika Netolicka (Brand Manager); Hamdija Hadzic (Marketing). Advertising revenues collapse: TX Group applies for short-time work

At TX Group, advertising revenues are collapsing due to the corona virus. The company is therefore applying for short-time working for practically all units. This was communicated to its employees by TX Group on Friday. The TX Group cannot yet say how many employees are affected.

txgroup

The workload of the employees will be reduced by at least 10 percent. Where possible, more could be cut, the company writes in an employee information document obtained by the Keystone-SDA news agency.

During the phase of short-time work, wages will fall accordingly. However, as the company stated on request, it wants to keep the financial losses of the employees as low as possible. TX Group will therefore continue to pay at least 90 percent of the gross salary during the short-time working period.

Deploy sports and culture department elsewhere

Because individual teams, such as those in sports and culture reporting at Tamedia's paid media, have significantly less work due to the Corona crisis, they are to be deployed in other departments whenever possible. Of course, employees are not expected to work as much as usual during the short-time phase.

The TX Group expects advertising revenues to fall by a mid-double-digit million figure by the end of the year. Even the good development in the digital sector cannot come close to compensating for this. (SDA)

Demand in online dating increases due to corona virus

Since Monday, life has been taking place at home. The current exceptional circumstances leave little room for social contact. This is also affecting the dating lives of Swiss men and women. Since the Federal Council’s decision to impose a lockdown, TheCasualLounge.ch has seen a rapid surge in sign-ups—women, in particular, are noticeably more active than usual.

TheCasualLounge_social-Distancing

The current emergency situation surrounding the coronavirus is paralyzing the economy. Surprisingly, in addition to the hygiene and food industries, there is high demand in a completely different segment - online dating. Since the recommendation to refrain from social contacts, the Swiss are turning to e-dating so that they don't have to miss out on exciting encounters despite social distancing - initially only in virtual space, of course.

Making friends despite social distancing

Everyday life has changed drastically from one day to the next: Instead of business meetings and coffee with friends, it's now home schooling and working from home. For singles and single mothers in particular, the sudden loss of social contact can be frustrating. Current figures from TheCasualLounge.ch now show that dating life has shifted to the virtual world since the lockdown in Switzerland.

"We are currently seeing a huge increase in female users. Between homeschooling, work and housework, they are looking for a change and can get to know men and plan dates for the future despite physical isolation - safe dating, so to speak," says Heinz Laumann, founder of TheCasualLounge.ch. A longer period of getting to know each other in a virtual space can also be exciting: "For the time being, you get to know each other through words and can build up the tension - a preprogrammed mental movie. "As soon as the situation is safe again, the new acquaintances can meet up for a real date," says Laumann.

As part of the exhibition «Gezeichnet,» which took place from December 12, 2019, to February 9, 2020, at the Museum of Communication in Bern, the satirical magazine Nebelspalter awarded the Audience Choice Award for the best cartoon of 2019. The winner, for the second year in a row, is Alexandre Ballaman.

His article "Hey! Ueli!" is published on May 17, 2019 in the daily newspaper La Liberté appeared. In total, more than 200 caricatures by 50 Swiss press illustrators were up for selection, the "Gezeichnet" organizers wrote in a media release on Friday.

Other places were taken by Christof Biedermann (for "Der Petwal" in the magazine Reformed), Gabriel Giger (Valais Messenger) and Ruedi Widmer (Tages-Anzeiger). The 13th edition of "Drawn" will open again on December 11, 2020 at the Museum of Communication in Bern. (SDA)
