Ruf Lanz lets learn English for later city trips

Ruf Lanz has created a stunning campaign for Yourpersonalenglishtrainer.ch: The Skyline Soundwaves.

Städtetrips

Swiss people like to travel a lot. But due to the Corona crisis, countless countries have imposed entry stops or restrictions, including the popular travel destinations USA, Australia and Canada.

The time until trips there are possible again with the necessary light-heartedness can be used sensibly to improve one's English. That's why Ruf Lanz is launching a campaign for Yourpersonalenglishtrainer.ch.

The private lessons offered help to expand vocabulary, learn new phrases and improve pronunciation. So that the next time you are in New York, San Francisco, Melbourne or Toronto, you almost sound like a local.

"Sound like a local" is also the message of the campaign. It is conveyed with a beautiful analogy: the skylines of the popular destinations New York, San Francisco, Melbourne, and Toronto are reflected in the water and are thus suddenly reminiscent of upward and downward soundwaves.

The campaign consists of four motifs and appears online and offline in various formats.

Bernard Maissen becomes Director of the Federal Office of Communications

Bernard Maissen will become the new director of the Federal Office of Communications (Bakom). The Federal Council announced this on Thursday. Maissen, 59, has served as deputy director of Bakom since 2018, overseeing the Media Division. He will assume his new position on July 1.

He takes over from Philipp Metzger, who moved to the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) in February. Since then, Bakom has been managed on an interim basis by Deputy Director Philippe Horisberger.

Maissen has a background in journalism. He studied German language and literature, history and journalism at the University of Fribourg and then held various positions as a journalist and editor-in-chief. Before joining Bakom, he was editor-in-chief and a member of the management of the Swiss News Agency (SDA).

The media are one of the major challenges facing the new Bakom Director. Parliament is currently discussing a package of measures to support the industry. This is intended to slow down the structural change that has accelerated during the coronavirus crisis.

The media need support in order to develop new business models in the long term, Maissen explained to the media in the Federal Palace. President Simonetta Sommaruga emphasized their importance in terms of democratic policy. "Our democracy thrives on diverse and vibrant media," she said. The Council of States will be the first chamber to decide on the bill in the summer session.

Controversial 5G dossier

However, the most difficult dossier on Maissen's desk comes from the telecoms department: as the new Bakom Director, he has to oversee the development of the 5G network. The new mobile communications standard is highly controversial. Several popular initiatives want to stop its introduction, while the economy is calling for 5G.

The federal government auctioned off the frequencies at the beginning of 2019. In April, the Federal Council decided to carry out further test measurements and present an implementation aid by the end of the year. The mobile communications standard is a prerequisite for various new technologies such as self-driving cars and virtual reality.

The coronavirus crisis has shown how important functioning telecommunications and media systems are, said Maissen. In his opinion, Switzerland has such systems - despite the mishaps. The switch to working from home had been successful and the population had been able to keep up to date with developments at home and abroad via the media. (SDA)

Lindt & Sprüngli has the best brand reputation in Switzerland

Lindt & Sprüngli is the brand with the best reputation in this country. This is shown by the new Brand Reputation Study conducted by the Italian company RepTrak.

Lindt & Sprüngli hat die beste Markenreputation in der Schweiz

The figures published in the latest issue of the business magazine Balance measures the reputation of 5,000 companies and brands around the world. In this country, the reputation king is Migros, which has no less than 6 of the top 50 brands, from Chocolat Frey to Micarna. The big banks did not make it into the top 50, but there are many retailers, food manufacturers and watch brands.

The reputation value is made up of seven individual parameters: products, innovation, company performance, leadership culture, social responsibility, corporate governance and reputation as an employer. "The trend in brand and corporate reputation is clear: leadership culture and social commitment are having an ever greater impact on reputation," says Markus Gut of the Farner Consulting agency, which commissioned the study for Switzerland. "At the same time, the importance of products and services for reputation is stagnating at the same level."

Solidarmed and Kind regards: The abandoned video call

On Friday, May 29, a hospital in Tanzania that Solidarmed supports will be connected via video call for one day. This will mark the first time a Google Hangout serves as a campaign hub where multiple visitors can gather and exchange ideas.

Freundliche Grüsse

The experiment starts on Friday: Users can dial into a Google Hangout via a link and are connected via video link to a hospital in Tanzania supported by Solidarmed. Here, one gets a picture of the situation, and one can exchange information with other Hangout participants via chat, or go directly to the donation page. Not least because of the Corona virus, funds are urgently needed to provide enough nurses and equipment for the hospitals.

Meetings via video call have become the main place for exchanges both on a professional and personal level in recent months. As a result, people are now willing to accept a video conferencing tool as a new campaign hub, they know how to use it.

Via social ads from Solidarmed you get to the Friday from 8.30 a.m. to 5.30 p.m. in the moderated Hangout. After the Click on the link the viewer is presented with the backdrop of an empty hospital ward in Tanzania - only sounds can be heard in the background. This dramatizes the conditions on site - there is a lack of funds to run the ward. In the chat function of the call, the viewer finds a hint, which leads him to a corresponding donation page. This novel campaign mechanism is intended to publicize Solidarmed's strong commitment and generate donations.

Duration: Friday, 29.5, 8.30 am to 5.30 pm.

Freundliche Grüsse

Fairness Commission rejects appeals on influencer decisions

The Swiss Fairness Commission (SLK) has rejected two appeals by the Swiss Consumer Protection Association (SKS). The SKS had appealed against decisions made last year concerning influencer marketing.

Rekurse zu Influencer-Entscheiden ab

The consumer protection had also filed "several new complaints", the SLK announced on Thursday. The two rejected appeals against tennis player Roger Federer and influencer Xenia Tchoumi, as well as the complaint against mountain biker Yolanda Neff, were about the obligation to label advertising in social media posts.

According to the report, Federer posted a professional promotional video showing, among other things, the logo of his current sponsoring partner. It was clear from the presentation that the tennis star was advertising for the brand owner, writes SLK.

In the case of Tchoumi's post, it also seemed clear that it was commercial communication, even though the jewelry presented was not labeled accordingly, according to the report. The fact that the influencer stated that she had no collaboration with the advertised brands was not relevant, as it is often part of the influencers' strategy to advertise brands only with a view to doing business with them in the future.

In Neff's case, the Fairness Commission did not make a decision because the mountain biker had accepted the complaint from the beginning.

Reference to current case law

However, judging a new case, as in the case of the influencer complaints, also shows that it takes a certain number of cases for a "consistent ruling practice to become established. In its decisions, the Fairness Commission also takes into account current case law abroad "in the sense of the multinational character of social media accounts.

Like the SLK principles, this does not include a general labeling obligation. The decisive factor is whether the commercial nature of a communication is clearly recognizable or not.

According to SLK, new scientific studies indicate that young followers are able to identify the commercial persuasive intentions of a post even without labeling due to the specific content design and definitely have a critical attitude towards influencer posts.

In Switzerland, any person has the authority and legitimacy to complain to the SLK about commercial communications that they believe are unfair.

On May 6, at the plenary session, three experts were approved and two newly elected to the Fairness Commission, according to the statement.

New experts for the Fairness Commission

On May 6, 2020, three experts were bid farewell and two newly elected. Stefan Szabo from the Institute of Intellectual Property (IPI) replaces Emmanuel Meyer, who has supported the SLK as an IPI expert for eight years, as a specialist in the field of intellectual property law and Swissness. Also new is Roman Gertsch, COO & Co-Founder of the agency Kingfluencers.

On an interim basis, Andreas Häuptli, Managing Director of the Swiss Media Association, is putting himself at the service of fair advertising. Until a definitive replacement is found, he replaces Mirjam Teitler, who has served as expert for print media since 2016. Also stepping down is Lorenzo Cicco as expert for TV advertising; he will be replaced at a later date. (SDA/pd/hae)

Advertising revenues of traditional media continue to decline sharply

Advertising revenue in nearly all traditional media declined again last year. This is according to a survey by the Swiss Foundation for Advertising Statistics published on Wednesday.

klassischen Medien

The Advertising Statistics Foundation has once again surveyed the reported advertising expenditure from the Swiss advertising market. Total net advertising sales for 2019 amount to CHF 4.45 billion. This means that advertising sales are 2.5 percent below the previous year's level.

Sales growth in outdoor advertising, cinema and promotional items

A positive sales trend was recorded by out-of-home advertising, with growth of 4.6 percent to 484 million Swiss francs. Likewise, the cinema advertising and advertising and promotional articles sectors increased their sales by 3.1 percent and 2.0 percent respectively.

Ongoing growth in online advertising

The advertising statistics show the online revenues of Swiss publishers. Outflows abroad (for example, in the areas of search engine advertising and social media) are not included for methodological reasons. As a result, the total advertising expenditure of online advertising amounts to CHF 518 million. Having weakened steadily in recent years, online revenue growth is relatively stable at 3.6 percent (2018: 3.4 percent). Both online display advertising and online classified advertising (jobs, real estate) achieved revenue growth of 4.8 percent and 2.2 percent respectively.

Television with declining figures and radio stable

TV advertising will generate total sales of CHF 704 million in 2019. This corresponds to a minus of 8.1 percent compared to the previous year. Radio advertising remains largely stable with advertising revenues of CHF 144 million. and a minus of 0.3 percent.

Press and direct mail receive the largest share

At 924 million Swiss francs, the press continues to get the biggest slice of the measurable advertising pie (see figure). The difference compared with the previous year is -8.4 percent. The strongest decline in sales was recorded by the general-interest, financial and business press, with a drop of 13.8 percent. The press categories with the largest advertising revenues are the daily press and the regional weekly and Sunday press, with total revenues of CHF 561 million. They will record a minus of 8.0 percent in 2019. Direct advertising is down 2.2 percent and generates total advertising revenues of CHF 887 million. (pd/hae/SDA)

Over 1.56 billion games consoles have been sold worldwide to date

As of March 2020, more than 1.56 billion game consoles had been sold worldwide since their introduction. Of the current top consoles—the Nintendo Switch, the Xbox One, and the PlayStation 4—the latter recorded the highest sales.

Spielekonsolen

Nevertheless, the venerable PlayStation 2 is still the record holder with more than 157 million units sold, according to figures from the business website Learnbonds.com show

Current consoles beaten

"Although the PlayStation 4 is very popular, its sales will not exceed those of the PlayStation 2. Sony will release the PlayStation 5 later this year," says LearnBonds. The PlayStation 2 accounts for ten percent of all games consoles ever sold.

In second place is the handheld console Nintendo DS with over 154 million units sold. In third place is another Nintendo handheld, the original Game Boy. Only in fourth place is the PlayStation 4, a current console that has sold around 110 million units to date. In comparison, the Nintendo Switch (56 million units) and the Xbox One (47 million units) are far behind.

"Europe's largest Sony consumer"

"Interestingly, Europe has turned out to be the biggest consumer of Sony consoles," write the experts at LearnBonds. European customers have bought a total of 45 million units of the PlayStation 4. In contrast, only 36 million units of the console were sold in the USA. The PlayStation 2, which Sony produced and supported for 13 years, was also particularly popular in Europe. (pte)

The news portal Nau.ch is feeling the effects of the coronavirus crisis. The company has had to cut three full-time and six part-time positions in its editorial and production departments.

Newsportal Nau.ch baut wegen Corona-Krise Stellen ab

These are regular terminations with three months' notice, the company told the Keystone-SDA news agency in response to a request on Wednesday. Further terminations are not planned.

Economic reasons due to the Corona crisis led to the terminations, according to the company. "The terminations under such circumstances hurt and we deeply regret. Nevertheless, we are strongly convinced that the company will achieve its goals together with everyone in the changed constellation," the written response continues.

The news portal employs over 50 people, including young journalists and interns who are trained in the internal Nau Academy. (SDA)

Pink shows that you can get Generation Z excited about retro photography

Generation Z likely missed out on the heyday of instant cameras. Now, Rosarot has been commissioned to promote the launch of Fujifilm’s new instant camera to this target audience through an influencer campaign.

Rosarot zeigt, dass man die Generation Z für die Retro-Fotografie begeistern kann

Now that instant cameras have disappeared from the memory of most generations - or have never even made it there - Fujifilm is launching a new model and entering the race for the favor of young people. The basic concept of the camera is retro - but its functions have been modernized and tailored to the needs of Gen Z. The "Instax Mini LiPlay" can be used as a portable printer, for example, and can also record sounds and voice messages and integrate them into the photos using a QR code.

Generation Z in focus

Rosarot's marketing concept focused on a credible and target group-oriented presentation of the product. A broad influencer and follower analysis formed the basis of the launch campaign. The selection resulted in 16 creative influencers.

Over 33,000 likes

Following the agency briefing, the influencers created 30 posts that demonstrated the versatile possibilities of the camera to their followers. A total of 33,030 likes and 1045 comments were generated. A success that, with a total reach of around 600,000 people and an engagement rate of 5 %, triggered numerous positive reactions and also left Fujifilm impressed.
