The activation of the brand is carried out by Jung von Matt/Limmat.

The rebranding is characterized by a new concise figurative and word mark - consisting of a serif font and an integrated illustrative element that is intended to visually convey the feeling of the new home. The logo is complemented by a visual world that uses drone photography to depict different Swiss settlement structures and is intended to draw on brand-relevant themes, such as the ecosystem.

Telebasel parts ways with CEO Michael Bornhäusser

The Telebasel Foundation and its controversial CEO, Michael Bornhäusser, are parting ways. The operator of the Basel regional television station announced this on Tuesday.

Telebasel

CEO Bornhäusser and Telebasel are going their separate ways earlier than planned (Photo: Screenshot Telebasel, via Nau.ch).

Bornhäusser is withdrawing from all of the foundation's executive bodies, according to a Telebasel statement. His mandate as CEO will end six months earlier than originally planned.

Since June 6, Telebasel has had a new chairman of the board of trustees in the person of Niklaus Tamm. It has now become clear that there is no viable basis for further cooperation with Bornhäusser, according to the communiqué. Bornhäusser's departure is effective immediately, and he will not receive any severance pay, Tamm said at the time of the inquiry.

Bornhäusser recently caused a stir and drew criticism on Telebasel. In an interview, he attacked Ulrich Vischer, the Chairman of the Board of Directors of the ailing MCH Group, and barely let the former Basel cantonal councillor get a word in edgewise.

However, this talk was not the reason for the separation, Tamm said. It had, however, triggered certain developments and shown that the chemistry was not right. The Vischer interview had plunged the station into a reputation crisis that overshadowed Bornhäusser's merits.

Bornhäusser had become a member of the Telebasel Foundation Board in 2012 and was initially part of the delegation. In 2017, he was assigned the management of the broadcaster as an external consultant on a mandate basis. According to Tamms, his workload was around 40 percent. According to the communiqué, the replacement for the CEO position will be taken in hand immediately. (SDA)

Effie Awards Switzerland 2020: Women's Center Zurich wins the Grand Effie

For the first time in the history of the Effie Awards Switzerland, the awards ceremony was held digitally. Leading Swiss Agencies (LSA) awarded a total of 19 Effies this year: ten bronze, five silver, and four gold. The Grand Effie, awarded for the first time, went to the «Stop Prostitution» campaign by the Zurich Women’s Center and Publicis Zurich.

Effie Awards

Taking the Effie Awards Switzerland to a new level - that was the goal of the 2020 edition. The previous categories were supplemented, somewhat more extensive entries were required in line with the American Effie, the judging process took place in two separate rounds as well as by different juries, and in the run-up to the awards ceremony, the holding of an Effie Congress - a half-day entirely dedicated to effective brand communication - would have been planned. The Effie Awards Switzerland thus moved closer to the concept of the US licensor, with the aim of making Swiss Effie cases more comparable with successful international campaigns. On the other hand, the Effie has thus become more broadly based, taking into account the changed demands on communication in the digital age.

But then came Corona. The virus did not stop at the Effie Awards Switzerland. Jury meetings followed at a distance or by zoom - the situation had to be reassessed on a daily basis and new forms for award shows had to be developed. The jury management, chaired by jury president Larissa Pohl, and the 80 or so jurors deserve the greatest credit for their efficient and constructive cooperation. The effort was worthwhile: what remained was a fine selection of gold, silver and bronze works, an interesting exchange between the leading minds from the marketing and agency world and the encouraging realization of how much change the industry is capable of in a short time.

The Grand Effie, the "outstanding" best case

This year, a "Grand Effie" was awarded for the first time. The Gold Effie winners of a year qualified for the Grand Effie Jury. The Grand Effie winner represents the one "outstanding" best case submitted that year. It is both the most effective case of the year and a message to the industry for lessons learned for the future. Four Gold Cases entered the race for the Grand Prix, which was awarded for the first time: Migros with "Ice Tea Beats," the Women's Center Zurich with its "Stop Prostitution" campaign, Migros and M-Budget Mobile once again with "No One Needs More Subscriptions," and Bank Cler with its "Zak Context Banner."

Applause: Presenter Julian Thorner delivers the good news for Publicis and the Women's Center Zurich.

In the end, the Women's Center prevailed. "In its category, this case shines particularly brightly, as it convinces with its efficient use of resources, clear insight and well-chosen tonality," said Grand Jury member Daniel Fischer (Head of Marketing Switzerland, UBS), explaining the choice.

Corona provides a digitalization boost in food retailing

The coronavirus pandemic has presented the food retail sector with enormous challenges - and at the same time accelerated the path to the digital future. One in three German supermarkets and discounters is now pursuing a comprehensive digital strategy. In comparison: last year, the figure was just 14%. These are the findings of the "Supermarket of the Future 2020" study.

Corona

For the study, Responsive Acoustics (ReAct), a company specializing in digital store management, conducted an expert survey among owners, managing directors and store managers from the German food retail sector in June.

Hoarding, social distancing and hygiene measures have led to both a rethink and a digitalization push in the German food retail sector. According to their own assessment, 32% are already pursuing a comprehensive digital strategy, while a further 48% are already implementing individual digital projects. In the previous year's study, only 14% had a genuine digital strategy, with just under half relying on individual digital projects.

"Many retailers were surprised by the rush of customers in March, were unable to fulfill all requests and also had problems with their supply chains. As a result, there was a lot of improvisation during the lockdown. The key to a more efficient organization and a stronger customer focus lies in digital store management - and it is precisely this potential that many food retail entrepreneurs now want to exploit," says ReAct founder Wilbert Hirsch in a press release.

Holistic digitalization: from merchandise management to the shopping experience

Digitalization affects practically every area of retail. The study participants named merchandise management (67%), shopping experience/better service (64%) and employee management (57%) as the three most important digital topics at present. "It is striking that the scepticism in the retail sector has given way and digitalization is now viewed more positively," observed Hirsch. "86% of retailers believe that digitalization will have a positive impact on the industry as a whole over the next three years. In 2019, only 72 percent shared this view."

Skepticism is also decreasing among employees. Last year, 60% of respondents cited the fears of the workforce as the biggest challenge for digitalization in food retail. Against the backdrop of the current positive digital experiences, this figure has shrunk to just 46%. On the other hand, no progress was made with regard to the continuing lack of technical requirements in many supermarkets and the continuing lack of IT knowledge among managers and employees.

"The coronavirus lockdown was certainly an exceptional situation. But during this time, the limits of traditional market management were mercilessly exposed, while the benefits of digitalization paid off for customers and employees alike," summarizes ReAct founder Hirsch.

Coop and Valencia celebrate 20 years of Supercard

Coop is celebrating 20 years of Supercard—including with an anniversary stamp card for Coop customers. Valencia Kommunikation was responsible for the communications strategy for this large-scale stamp card promotion.

Valencia Kommunikation

Supercard users collect "shopping days" in this promotion and thus increase the value of a gift card up to a maximum value of 100 francs. A shopping day is any day on which purchases are made at Coop for more than 100 francs. The gift card will be sent to customers in November 2020 after the end of the promotion.

Valencia implemented the campaign in terms of communication, combining a variety of channels. "The campaign is a good example of a cross-media communication structure, which extends from the online and offline channels to the POS," explains consultant Claudia Paganini. Accordingly, the individual messages were adapted to the function of each channel and weighted differently. "Especially in the TV spot, where time is limited, a balanced prioritization of the messages was central," says concept designer Sebastian Refardt.

In addition to a 10-second version, a special short tag-on was created for use on TV, which is attached to the existing weekly campaign advertising. Other measures included moving image banners, radio spots, advertisements, a self-mailer and various POS measures.

"The big anniversary collector's pass" runs until October 25, 2020 at Coop and Coop.ch.

Against hate on the net: 90 US companies stop Facebook advertising

In protest against Facebook's handling of hate comments and derogatory content on its services, dozens of American companies have now joined a call for an advertising boycott.

Unternehmen

The initiative #StopHateForProfit, which was launched by civil rights organizations in mid-June, listed a good 90 companies on its website on Sunday that are stopping their advertising on Facebook in the USA for the time being. Some want to extend this measure to the Facebook subsidiary Instagram as well as Twitter. Facebook now wants to take stronger action against hate messages and false news, as chief Mark Zuckerberg emphasized.

Unilever, Honda, Coca-Cola and Co.

Big names added to the list since Friday include consumer goods giant Unilever and carmaker Honda. Drinks giant Coca-Cola also announced it would suspend its advertising on all social platforms worldwide for at least 30 days. However, it is not joining the boycott, spokespeople stressed in various US media. The coffee house chain Starbucks also announced on Sunday that it would suspend all advertising on social networks until further notice.

"There is no place for racism in the world and none in social media," Coca-Cola Group CEO James Quincey said in a statement. During the advertising break, the company now plans to review its advertising strategies and determine if changes are needed. "We also expect more accountability and more transparency from our social media partners," he stressed.
Hershey, one of the world's leading chocolate producers, confirmed to the newspaper USA Today on Friday to join the boycott call and not run ads in July. In addition, the company wants to cut its spending on Facebook and its subsidiary Instagram by a third for the rest of the year.

Advertising boycott to drive change

The wave of protests in the U.S. against racism and police violence in the wake of the death of African-American George Floyd had reignited criticism of Facebook for being too lax in dealing with controversial posts. Group CEO Zuckerberg also made a significant contribution to this, refusing to intervene against controversial statements by US President Donald Trump. There was even criticism from his own employees for this. #StopHateForProfit's call for an advertising boycott is intended to hit the company in a sensitive spot - Facebook makes almost all of its revenue from advertising.

For Coca-Cola alone, the 2019 U.S. advertising budget was an estimated $22 million (just under 21 million euros), reported the New York Times citing data from industry analyst Pathmatics. At Unilever, the figure was around $42 million.

Shares in Facebook and also Twitter came under heavy pressure on Friday as the boycott widened. Facebook lost a good 8 percent, which corresponded to a loss in value of 56 billion dollars (about 53 billion euros), according to the Bloomberg news agency. Zuckerberg had thus lost 7 billion dollars of his private assets.

Facebook wants to take action

Probably under the growing pressure, Zuckerberg announced in a livestream on Friday that he would take stronger action against hate messages in the future, delete false reports immediately before the U.S. presidential election, and raise standards for advertising. "I stand against hate and anything that incites violence," Zuckerberg said at the company's headquarters in Palo Alto, announcing his company's planned measures.

In addition, derogatory and hateful messages regarding ethnicity, religion or sexual preferences are also to be blocked in advertising, Zuckerberg went on to say. In addition, some Facebook content that actually violates the social network's guidelines but is newsworthy, for example due to a prominent sender, will be flanked with notices in the future.

Company doubt

But some companies subsequently expressed doubts about it, according to media reports. "We do not believe Facebook will effectively manage violent and divisive speech on its platforms," Hershey wrote in a statement published by U.S. newspaper USA Today quoted statement. "Despite repeated assurances from Facebook to take action, we have not seen any meaningful changes."

Honda announced that it would no longer place ads on Facebook and Instagram in July to send a message against "hate and racism. Unilever even wants to do without paid advertising for the entire rest of the year - not only on Facebook, but also on Twitter. The short message service, on which Trump prefers to publish his frequently controversial messages, has also been the subject of criticism for some time. The Dutch-British company does not want to cut its US advertising budget, but redistribute it to other companies.

Previously, a number of other companies, including U.S. mobile giant Verizon and well-known outdoor brands The North Face and Patagonia, had joined the #StopHateForProfit initiative. Unilever - whose Ben & Jerry's ice cream brand has also been involved - is now going one step further. Actually, the campaign was initially only about an advertising boycott in July. CH Media and Galledia strengthen their partnership

CH Media is selling all of its shares in Multicolor Print AG to the Eastern Swiss media company Galledia, effective retroactively as of January 1, 2020. The production facility in Baar, ZG, will remain in operation.

Galledia

CH Media and Galledia are already working together in the regional newspaper business and are now strengthening their partnership even further: Galledia is acquiring all shares in Multicolor Print AG, a graphic arts company for print and online communication based in Central Switzerland, from CH Media with retroactive effect from January 1, 2020. The company will continue to operate as an independent public limited company and will retain its production site in Baar.

Portfolio expansion for Galledia

For Galledia, the transaction represents a sensible addition to its existing portfolio. The two largest sheetfed printing companies in Switzerland will be merged to form an alliance and the axis between central and eastern Switzerland will be closed. For customers, this means concentrated expertise in sheetfed and digital printing. In addition, the merger will enable Galledia to further expand its digital expertise.

Change in management

Following the acquisition by the Galledia Group, Daniel Schneider, Head of the Print Division and member of the Executive Board at Galledia, will take over the management of Multicolor Print AG from July 1, 2020. He succeeds Heinz Meyer, who will hand over the business to Daniel Schneider during a transition phase before taking on a new role at CH Media.

"The sale of Multicolor Print AG is in line with CH Media's strategy of focusing on the two main pillars of publishing and entertainment," says Roland Kühne, Chief Operating Officer and member of the CH Media Executive Board. "We have succeeded in finding a strong partner for the divested businesses in Galledia with a high level of expertise in the areas of print, digital and specialist media".

"We are delighted to have found a partner with a very similar strategic focus in Multicolor Print AG, with whom we can jointly develop our strategic business units Print and Digital in the long term," says Daniel Ettlinger, CEO of Galledia Group AG.

The parties have agreed not to disclose the purchase price of Multicolor Print AG.

Honorary award for Markus Imhoof at the Swiss Film Awards 2020

The Honorary Swiss Film Award 2020 goes to Markus Imhoof. The award recognizes the director's outstanding life's work and commitment. Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the honorary award will be presented during the Night of Nominations at the Solothurn Film Festival 2021.

Markus Imhoof has written Swiss film history with his films. The nomination committee describes his ongoing "search for humanity", which "combines the political whole with the personal", as his outstanding achievement. The Federal Office of Culture FOC is awarding him the honorary prize of 30,000 Swiss francs as part of the Swiss Film Prize 2020.

Born in Winterthur in 1941, Markus Imhoof studied German language and literature, art history and history at the University of Zurich. In 1966, he worked as an assistant to Leopold Lindtberg, then attended the film course at the Zurich School of Applied Arts and finally embarked on a career as a film director and screenwriter. He was also a co-founder of production companies, a guest lecturer at various universities and a member of the Swiss Federal Film Commission.

Over the past six decades, Markus Imhoof has had a decisive influence on Swiss film. His films expose, create empathy and encourage reflection and rethinking. The prison film "Rondo" (1968) was banned by the justice department of the canton of Zurich and remained under lock and key until 1976. The Oscar-nominated feature film "Das Boot ist voll" (1981) portrays the fate of refugees in exile in Switzerland during the Second World War with empathy. "More Than Honey" (2012) touched an international audience and is still the most successful Swiss documentary film to date. In 2018, Markus Imhoof once again tackled the consequences of a restrictive asylum policy in "Eldorado". The harrowing film entered the race as a Swiss candidate for the international Oscar in 2019. The worldwide attention and the numerous awards and honors testify to the urgency of his films.

The Swiss Film Awards 2020 ceremony originally planned for March will not take place this year due to the Covid-19 pandemic. The honorary award will be presented and Markus Imhoof will be honored at the Swiss Film Award Nominations Night in Solothurn.

Farner launches campaign for work-life balance at SBB

SBB recognizes the significant professional potential and valuable skills that mothers and fathers bring to the workplace. Through various initiatives, SBB is working to make a difference in the area of balancing family and career. SBB is expanding its offers and instruments for reconciling job and family, thus taking even greater account of the needs of current family models. A specific re-entry program for mothers and fathers after parental leave is to offer a wide range of support, training and continuing education opportunities for a job re-entry with prospects.

Farner supports SBB in its ambition to become even more involved in the issue of work-life balance. The communication concept mandated in the course of the HR lead agency tender and now rolled out uses a broad spectrum of internal and external measures and links them synergistically.

Reconciliation of family and work

A study commissioned by SBB from ETH Zurich shows for the first time the added value of people re-entering the workforce from the perspective of decision-makers in the business world. This insight is used to generate content in the editorial media. The report kicks off in the current SonntagsZeitung.

SBB Kids paint on the theme of "Compatibility

The campaign relies on an authentic look. It shows mothers and fathers at SBB from the perspective of their children. For this purpose, a painting workshop with artistic direction was initiated at the Aargauer Kunsthaus. They are now published combined with target group and journey specific messages in a multi-level campaign framework and transfer to the relevant content of the specially created landing page Sbb.ch/backtobusiness.

Nexum realizes online relaunch for Coop City

The Coop City department store has a new website. Nexum, the digital lead agency, is responsible for the relaunch.

coop-city-relaunchjpg

The agency's services included conception, design, content consulting and creation, and migration of new content. The focus of the collaboration was on addressing the target group and integrating the product range into the shoppers' lifestyles. Realized was the Relaunch of the Coop City website based on a three-day creative and content workshop and a detailed SEO analysis.

Omnichannel plays an important role in the new website: Customers can directly research the department store in their vicinity and the respective opening hours. Or they can pre-order tickets for an event or concert and then pick them up at the ticket agency. Products from the latest print advertisements and brochures are also prominently displayed on the home page. Via the product view, the customer can see additional details of the current offers and bestsellers.

Coherent appearance

The new website is intended to be visually convincing with a coherent appearance. Individual design elements familiar from the offline presentation, such as the color scheme, are now also found online. The cross-channel corporate identity is thus intended to ensure a high level of recognition among customers and to underscore the aspirations and presentation of a modern department store.

The tiled look works on all devices and conveys information intuitively and concisely. At the same time, it underscores the magazine character of the new online presence, which is familiar from the beauty and fashion world. The loading time was reduced to a minimum by using the latest technology.

"Thanks to a new design, intuitive user guidance and new inspiring content, our new website is now structured, fresh and informative. Among other things, the user gets new insights into which product worlds with which brands await him in the Coop City department stores, discovers bestseller products and weekly changing inspirations. Thanks to nexum for the creative ideas, customer centricity and reliable implementation," says Sina Maus, Digital Marketing Manager at Coop City.
