The docu-soap is being produced by ITV Studios Germany. It is looking for producers, editors, production managers, writers and editorial assistants whose "Schwitzerdütsch is perfect", as the advertisement states. Jonathan Engmann, spokesperson for Swiss Radio and Television (SRF), confirmed a report by the news portal Watson to the news agency SDA. It is not new for SRF to work with external production companies. As a rule, however, SRF engages Swiss production companies, he said. For example, the motor show "Tacho" and "Cover me" were also produced by a German company. "SRF only awards production contracts abroad in exceptional cases," said Engmann. In principle, the most sensible and efficient cooperation model is chosen depending on the project. ITV Studios, which produces "Mini Beiz, dini Beiz" for SRF, has been successfully producing cooking and restaurant programs for years. In addition, the concept presented corresponds to SRF's ideas for an early evening program on the subject of cooking and restaurants.
SSM: "Not in the spirit of the concession"
The new docu-soap starts next September. In the show, five Swiss regulars from different restaurants will each present their favorite pub in Switzerland. At the end, one restaurant will be chosen as the winner. According to Watson, SRF is accused of producing the show abroad more cheaply than if a local production company were commissioned. "Important factors in the choice are production experience, know-how and rights or licenses," replies Engmann. Andreas Künzi from the Swiss Syndicate of Media Professionals (SSM) has little sympathy for outsourcing production abroad. "It would make more sense for SRF to award its external contracts to Swiss companies," he told the news agency SDA. "There are also companies here that could produce such a format."
It is well known that production is cheaper in Germany. The media trade unionist also sees this as the main reason why Swiss television is transferring the "Mini Beiz, dini Beiz" project to a German company. "Incidentally, this is also not in line with the SRG concession," said Künzi. (SDA)
