Scotti: greaser or hygiene fanatic?

The Scotti advertising agency has developed an online game for Desinfect that addresses the topic of hygiene in a playful way.

Do you urgently need to wash your hands but don't have any water to hand? Desinfect, a wipe for hand hygiene on the go, is for situations like this. In parallel with the continuation of the advertising campaign, which aims to increase awareness of the product, the Scotti advertising agency has developed a concept for a Online quiz which addresses the topic in a playful way. After answering five multiple-choice questions, the participant's hygiene profile is calculated. All types are available, from "bacteria in human form" to "cleanliness sectarians".
The quiz and the associated competition will be advertised at the Tour de Suisse in the form of samples in the advertising hoardings and at the start and finish lines. A send-to-friend function and the option to post your profile on Facebook will ensure that the game spreads quickly. Stöckli has been secured as the sponsor of the competition prizes. The main prize is a mountain bike, with shopping vouchers also up for grabs.

Clinton: Intervention defended on Twitter over Iran

US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton has defended her ministry's intervention in the Internet service Twitter. Due to the dramatic events in Iran, the ministry had asked the short message service to postpone planned maintenance work.

US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton has defended her ministry's intervention in the Internet service Twitter. Due to the dramatic events in Iran, the ministry had asked the short message service to postpone planned maintenance work.
"We promote the right to freedom of expression," she said Wednesday in response to questions from journalists, according to SDA. One aspect of that right, she said, is the use of Twitter, not only by people in Iran but increasingly around the world. Keeping these channels of communication open and allowing people to share information is especially important at a time when there are not very many other information outlets, Clinton added.
The U.S. State Department had previously said it had asked Twitter for the postponement so that Iranians could continue to communicate via the platform. Twitter is used in particular by opponents of Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad.
Twitter had postponed the one-hour shutdown for maintenance details announced for Monday evening and did not carry it out until late Tuesday evening. At the same time, the Internet service pointed out that it had decided on the postponement itself because of the current importance of Twitter in Iran.

Worldwide advertising works

"Bang for your Buck" is the title and result of a Europe-wide study on the efficiency of advertising campaigns in international media. It was carried out by CNN and PWC.

On behalf of CNN International, Pricewaterhouse Coopers (PWC) examined the efficiency of advertising campaigns in international print media and on television. The study was based on survey and advertising data from over 85 brands from the travel industry, the luxury goods sector and the financial services sector. "At a time when budget decisions are heavily dependent on brand preference and sales figures, the demand for advertising investments is on the rise again," says Thomas Hoehn, Partner at PWC and father of the study. "With the Europe-wide study, CNN and PWC were able to prove that advertising in international media ensures increased brand preference, brand recommendation and ultimately higher sales figures." Advertising is therefore a "bang for your buck", a real hit for sales.
The results of the study in detail:
- International media strongly influence the purchasing behavior of an elusive but highly attractive target group.
- Viewers and readers who intensively consume international media have higher brand recognition than consumers of local media. They are also more inclined to recommend brands from the tourism and financial sectors.
- Consumers of international media react very sensitively to brands. They rate the quality of branded products higher than recipients of local media. The quality of heavily advertised brands in particular is rated as high.
- With the reception of international media, the need for luxury goods is increasing, especially for watches from the luxury goods sector.
- For watches in particular, the brand is more important for women than for men. Price is the second most important factor for both sexes.
- A ten percent increase in international advertising expenditure in the tourism sector - an average of three million dollars per year between 2001 and 2007 - generates 70,000 additional visitors per year for travel destinations.
Direct correlation with sales increase
The results of the study prove that advertising can be successful even in financially strained times - even if the study only proves this for the international media niche. CNN supported the project primarily because there was previously no valid research data in this area. "The media agencies and clients we work with have been asking for this kind of measurability of advertising effectiveness for a long time," says Jonathan Davies, Executive Vice President Advertising Sales at CNN International. "Our results provide a real measure for anyone in the advertising industry who needs to show a direct return on investment." This is likely to be all advertisers at present. "Importantly, we were able to measure results in both sales and long-term brand preference," emphasizes Didier Mormesse, Senior Vice President Research at CNN International. "We hope that this survey sends a universal message to all other international media companies."
PWC collected its results using three different methods: Econometric measurements were used to determine the influence of advertising on sales, an EMS study was used to survey the brand preference of customers with high and low use of international media, and finally the customized study was used to analyze the value of brands in relation to media consumption. A next step for companies could now be to use their own analyses to investigate the impact of their brand in international media and to strengthen it.

To the point: Let's go

What was to be expected has come to pass. After the convergence project of SRG SSR idée suisse led to frustration thanks to unfortunate, if not to say bungling, communication and, as a consequence, to personnel changes at Swiss Television and Swiss Radio, the wrangling is now beginning.
Similar to the situation with a national soccer team, where the whole nation knows better than the coach anyway, it is the same with the appointment of the head of Swiss television. Experts have their say in all the newspapers. Columns and commentaries get down to business.
In the SonntagsZeitung, Roger "I-invented" Schawinski draws on the past to take a swipe at his arch-enemy Armin Walpen: "Back then - in a SonntagsZeitung column, by the way - I brought the name Peter Schellenberg into the conversation. This became part of a heated public debate. Before the official showcase at the SRG bodies, the seven (!) candidates faced the assembled TV staff in a hearing lasting several hours." In the same SonntagsZeitung, Markus Gisler doubles down. He wants to turn SRG into a stock corporation (perhaps not such a stupid idea!) and says: "The general director rules like a king. Walpen is sitting on his job because the CVP has bargained him into it. Management skills are not in demand."
NZZ and Weltwoche ran almost identical headlines last week: "Chaos management at SRG" was the headline on Falkenstrasse, "Lexicon in chaos management" on Förrlibuckstrasse. Media expert Kurt Zimmermann plays on the man and dismantles the unloved Walliser for an entire column: "Armin Walpen is great when it comes to politics. He's ineffectual when it comes to business management." Rainer Stadler analyzes the game in his usual diplomatic manner. More in the direction of foul play, however, are the reactions of the politicians to the interim proposal of Ueli Haldimann, which could also be read in the NZZ: "Personnel snapshots are always bad, even if they are interim solutions," says FDP president Pelli in a woolly way. Darbellay of the CVP explains that his party has recently had various disputes with the SF editor-in-chief "coming from the left". For SVP President Toni Brunner, Haldimann is persona non grata. In an urgent question, Brunner, a member of the National Council and an amateur baker, recalled that Haldimann had been convicted in court for his journalistic activities.
We are curious about the further course of the game.

New Lgk: Climate protection campaign realized for Bernmobil

Neue Lgk has developed a climate protection campaign for Bernmobil. At the heart of the campaign is an orange soccer jersey with the phrase «Bern cuts CO2, Holland says thanks» printed on the back.

For the second time, Bernmobil is promoting climate protection with a T-shirt campaign. The mechanism is very simple: anyone who gets hold of one of 800 Bernmobil T-shirts can use it to travel for free on streetcars and buses in Bern for a month. Provided he or she wears the T-shirt clearly visible and thus sets an example for climate protection. In 2008, the shirts were distributed within two and a half days. Local media reported extensively and the campaign had a lasting effect: over 6% of the campaign participants - all new customers - subsequently bought a Bernmobil travelcard.
Bernmobil wanted to launch a similar climate protection campaign this year. The Neue Lgk found the solution in the city's recent past: in 2008, Bern hosted the European Football Championships. The city was transformed into a Dutch exclave and brought together hundreds of thousands of orange-clad football fans for a lively but very peaceful party. So why not dedicate the 2009 climate protection campaign to the Dutch as a gesture of friendship?
The centerpiece of the campaign is the orange football shirt with the back print "Bern saves CO2, Holland thanks". The shirts were advertised with posters, advertisements, T-shirt streetcar hangers and flyers. The T-shirts were available from June 8.
