Agency at the airport: "Who atte male?"

The agency at the airport has developed a campaign for the Ruggiero family, who run a painting business in Will, St. Gallen.

"Who painted?" The Italians, of course! For centuries, they have practiced painting like a craft, the agency said in a statement. Knowledge and skills have been passed down through generations. Stylish and with a good pinch of cordiality. The agency at the airport has placed this passion at the center of the new campaign for the Famiglia Ruggiero.
Advertisements, mailings, Internet presence, reference booklet, car fleet "and whatever else is needed" are used as advertising media.

Swisscom: Stable business, less profit

Swisscom reported stable business performance in the first half of 2010. However, profit fell by 14.4 percent year-over-year to 873 million Swiss francs, due in part to legal issues at its Italian subsidiary Fastweb.

Swisscom had already announced in May that the subsidiary had to make provisions amounting to 70 million euros due to VAT proceedings in Italy. The half-year profit of the Swiss market leader was also burdened by provisions and currency effects.
Operating profit before depreciation and amortization (EBITDA) fell by 2.4 percent to CHF 2.29 billion, according to the press release issued by SDA on Wednesday. Excluding Fastweb provisions and currency effects, EBITDA increased by 2.8 percent. Swisscom's revenue rose by 0.5 percent to CHF 5.95 billion. Calculated in euros, Fastweb generated 1.7 percent more revenue, while Swisscom alone grew by 1.9 percent.
Successful TV business
Swisscom once again recorded very strong growth in the TV business: the telecommunications group gained 85,000 new TV customers in the first half of the year, with a total of 317,000 customers watching television via Swisscom at the end of June.
In the cell phone business, the number of customers rose by 219,000 to 5.7 million. According to the press release, Swisscom was able to make up for the lower minute prices with new customers and higher volumes in mobile data traffic, among other things. The company sold 585,000 cell phones in the first half of the year, almost half of which were smartphones. Since the end of July, Swisscom has also been offering the new iPhone 4 from Apple.
Swisscom had 1.79 million broadband connections, 0.6% fewer than a year ago. Swisscom was able to provide 8.5% more connections to end customers, while the number of wholesale customers, which include resellers, fell from 130,000 to 260,000.

Myspace faces competition from Swiss music platform Restorm

The completely revamped Swiss music platform Restorm.com aims to dethrone Myspace as the leading international music community.

Like Myspace, Restorm.com also focuses on music. In addition, the free network is technically up to date and more clearly laid out than the previously popular US service. According to the press release, Restorm.com currently has 16,000 registered members as well as 5,500 bands and almost 700 labels. Until now, the service was exclusively geared towards German-speaking and specifically Swiss users. Since last weekend, however, there is now also an English-language version - a French version will also go online soon. Visually, the Zurich start-up resembles the social network Facebook. Each user profile shows a wall, an activity feed and tabs with additional functions. In addition, restorm.com adapts to Twitter's follower principle - unlike Myspace and Facebook, where contacts have to accept each other as friends.
The aim of the new music platform is to link content objects and offer filters. For example, users can keep track of upcoming concerts by their favorite bands. In addition, a small player at the bottom of the page allows users to play songs uploaded by artists and create playlists.
The company currently employs twelve people. Managing Director Philippe Perreaux wants to put the artist back at the center of music with Restorm.com. It remains to be seen whether the relaunch planned by Myspace in the fall can keep up - especially as the young Swiss company now wants to put a lot of pressure on the popular music community.

During his term of office, the schedule of Tele Bielingue's main program was updated, a number of broadcasting features were redesigned and new, modern broadcasting technology and the switch to the 16:9 format were implemented in mid-2010.
The Board of Directors of Tele Bielingue AG will now define the profile and criteria for Senn's successor and begin the search process at an early stage.

Last but not least: Dear children, drink enough water, or else …

The brain functions best when you drink enough water. The British beverage brand Juicy Drench has dramatized this fact in a commercial.

This—let's call it an "original"—short film makes it crystal clear: If you don't drink enough fluids, you're really in for a world of trouble. So, kids: Drink enough water—or Juicy Drench—or you'll end up just like this man.
You can either love the commercial or hate it. One thing is for sure: It's somehow… different.

Credit Suisse’s customer magazine, *Bulletin*, is now also available on the iPad. Arnold Inhalt und Form (AIF) was responsible for the design and production of the iPad edition. The Swiss agency for corporate communications and corporate design has been responsible for the print edition of the magazine for 13 years.

Multimedia functions such as 360-degree animations, videos (in layout or full-screen format), image galleries, live content, hotspots (hyperlinks to websites that open without closing the app) and intuitive navigation are designed to offer readers added value that goes beyond just reading. SW calls for opposition to two restrictive consultations

The Swiss Advertising Association (SW) draws attention to two public consultations concerning advertising that would impose stricter regulations on commercial communication. According to the “Kommunikations-Kommentar,” these are restrictive regulations that the industry must oppose as a united front.

On the one hand, it concerns the preliminary draft of a revised Price Disclosure Ordinance (PBV) of May 7, 2010, which also provides for changes to the provisions on price disclosure in advertising (Art. 13 ff. PBV) and the regulations on misleading price disclosures (Art. 16 ff. PBV), which also relate to advertising. As a tightening up of the existing provisions, a new Art. 14 para. 3bis stipulates that the specifications under this article must be easily visible and clearly legible on a neutral background. According to the explanatory notes to the draft ordinance, these criteria are to be defined individually for each advertising medium. On the other hand, the consultation procedure for the total revision of the Alcohol Act has been launched. The consultation period runs until October 31, 2010.
According to SW, both revision efforts are going in the completely wrong direction on individual points. The perfidious thing about the consultation texts is that both come across as "wolves in sheep's clothing". If you ask around in the industry, it is astonishing and frightening to hear: "That doesn't affect us." However, it is true that both consultation texts contain new nonsensical regulations that run completely counter to a liberal stance. The SW will campaign vehemently for the interests of the sector, draw up a consultation text in both cases and make it available with the aim of getting as many players as possible involved in opposing further tightening.
After all, even in 2010, it is not primarily the "weight" of the sender that is decisive in the consultation process in federal Berne, but rather that, as in a game of cards, "lines" are drawn in order to state at the end that "so and so many are against; so and so many are for". This is grotesque, but cannot be changed in a hurry. That is why as many "tally sticks" as possible must be made against further tightening.

SW: Peter Felser is Communicator of the Month July

The nomination for Swiss Advertising SW's Communicator of the Month in July goes to advertiser Peter Felser. The CEO of Spillmann / Felser / Leo Burnett and "Advertiser of the Year 2007" was elected as the new President of BSW Leading Swiss Agencies this May.

Felser's sober way of communicating, addressing things calmly and getting to the point is the only thing he likes, writes SW in a press release. For example, Felser stated at a panel discussion of the Eastern Switzerland Advertising Club this year that advertising is a people business. You have to "like people" and be able to admit that "we are actually all salespeople". You have to sell yourself, your ideas, your strategies, your agency etc. again and again. According to Felser, those who have recognized this and understand how to implement it are already well equipped to survive in this exciting industry in the long term. In an interview with Persönlich.com this July, Felser said: "Business life is not a pony ranch. Our industry will continue to face major challenges in the future. I don't think it will get any easier. However, I am optimistic that Switzerland's leading agencies will be able to assert themselves in the difficult environment - thanks to good quality." The advertiser goes on to emphasize quality as a factor for sustainability. Nothing more needs to be added.
