Commission on Fairness upholds complaint against Blick am Abend

The Fairness Commission has approved a complaint by the Foundation for Consumer Protection (SKS) against Blick am Abend. The free newspaper had advertised a fee-based insurance comparison service with slogans such as "Medicine against premium shock".

For a fee of 90 centimes per SMS, consumers were to be informed by the service of the three cheapest health insurance premiums. The SKS had criticized that the indicated premiums were not the cheapest. This complaint was now approved, the SKS said.

"We are very happy about the decision of the Fairness Commission," said Sara Stalder, head of the SKS, when asked by the SDA news agency. It is deceptive, she said, if someone does not know who is behind an SMS service. The SKS has determined that only a handful of insurance companies were behind Ringier's offer, she said. "This is not information, but misleading". The SKS will also keep an eye on these offers in the premium round next fall, he said. "Such comparison services are to be taken with great caution".

Ringier takes note of the decision of the Fairness Commission, Matthias Graf, Head of Corporate Communications at Ringier, said on Thursday in response to a question. "We have ensured internally that, when publishing information on services, references to possible restrictions are published if necessary." (SDA)

Pro Sieben Sat.1: First-quarter profit nearly doubled

The German broadcasting group Pro Sieben Sat.1 nearly doubled its profit in the first three months of 2011. The TV group’s net profit came in at 38.3 million euros, compared with 21.7 million euros in the same quarter of the previous year.

Prosieben Sat.1's revenues grew by 3.7 percent to EUR 682.8 million. While advertising revenues in the domestic market remained almost at the previous year's level, partly due to the late timing of Easter, they grew strongly in some cases outside Germany, as the station group announced in Munich on Thursday.

The Group expects sales to increase by at least a low single-digit percentage in both the first half of the year and for 2011 as a whole. While profits in the first half of the year are likely to be at the previous year's level due to the current subdued development in the German TV advertising market, an increase is expected for the year as a whole, it added. Net Metrix Profiles 2011-1 published

Net-Metrix has published the ninth edition of the Net-Metrix-Profile study on Internet and website usage in Switzerland and Liechtenstein. In Net-Metrix-Profile 2011-1, daily reach figures are reported for the first time for all websites included in Net-Metrix-Profile that have at least 30,000 unique users per week.

The daily reach is shown as an average value over all individual days in the investigation period and as a weekday and weekend average value. According to the statement, Net-Metrix-Profile now also offers the possibility of evaluating which websites are accessed more during the week and which are accessed more frequently at the weekend.

In addition to daily reach figures, monthly and weekly reach figures continue to be published for websites, booking units and networks.

Change in population

People aged 14 and over who are resident in Switzerland or Liechtenstein and use the Internet form the population of the study. At around 5.2 million, the population of the Net-Metrix-Profile 2011-1 study edition is approximately 5 percent larger than in the previous year. On the one hand, the "widest user group" of the Internet (persons with Internet use in the last three months) has grown by around 3 percent and, on the other hand, the permanent resident population has increased by around 2 percent.

Change in usage habits: More clients per user

The unique clients measured in Net-Metrix-Audit form the basis for determining the reach of unique users. The total number of unique clients measured in Net-Metrix-Audit increased more strongly than the reach of unique users in a year-on-year comparison. According to the statement, this reflects the fact that online users tend to use the Internet via more devices. Year-on-year, internet usage via mobile devices in particular has increased sharply. In Net-Metrix-Profile 2011-1, an average of 2.3 unique clients (individual devices or Internet browsers) were identified per person in the overall universe. In the previous year, this figure was around 1.8 unique clients per person.

PR consultant: International recognition through CIPR diploma

19 federally certified PR consultants received their international diplomas. They took a critical reasoning test over the course of one month.

The student's thesis had to discuss an ethical topic, give an assessment of the future of media work under the influence of social media, or take a look at internal communication, according to a statement from the SPRI. This was the first time that PR consultants received international recognition for their federal diploma. They were awarded the CIPR Diploma by the Chartered Institute of Public Relations (CIPR) in London, the world's largest PR industry association.

The CIPR diploma was awarded to the following federally certified PR consultants:
Patrick Djizmedian, Annette Fuhrer-Strebel, Sonja Giardini, Andrea Gnädinger, Rudolf Gugger, Verena Jäschke, Andreas Kern, Nina Krucker, Pia Lehmann, Burga Martinelli, Andreas Notter, Angela Maria Nyffeler, Anne-Catherine Rüegg Neuhaus, Barbara Salm, Vera Steiner, Fancçois Vetri, Sigrun Wähner, Philipp Zimmermann, Eva Zwahlen.

Büro Troxler: Guerrilla action at Lucerne main station

The agency Büro Troxler carried out a guerrilla marketing campaign at Lucerne Central Station on behalf of the Institute for Continuing Education at the KV Bildungszentrum Luzern.

Last but not least: God's word in every place

An observant reader sent a photo to the Werbewoche.ch editorial team. It shows two posters that are sure to cause some red faces—at least for one political party.

"Treat people as you would like them to treat you." This saying adorns one of the countless Bible-quotation posters that are supposed to make us better people. In the present case, the poster probably achieves rather an undesirable effect and turns the viewer into a potential sinner - after all, the poster next door advertises a sex sauna club and thus gives the Bible quote a completely new meaning. And as if the Bible believers were not already punished enough with the unfortunate placement, the extremely similar layout in the colors blue and yellow also catches the eye, which makes the viewer think that the two subjects belong together ...

"God's word in every place," the motto of Agency C, which was responsible for the Bible posters, was probably taken a bit too literally here.

Swiss Advertising names Jaromir Löffler communicator of the month

Swiss Advertising SW has named journalist and musician Jaromir Löffler its "Communicator of the Month" for April.

loeffler

Jaromir Löffler worked for Marketing & Kommunikation, the official publication of SW, for 20 years, according to a press release. As editor-in-chief, he shaped the title. He even turned himself inside out for the last issue. He is now retiring at the age of 63. It is therefore high time to pay tribute to this commitment.

However, "Jaro" will also be communicating after his time at Marketing & Communication, it continues: the passionate musician will now be able to devote more time to his band, which plays soul and jazz. And music is certainly one of the most direct and perhaps most honest ways to communicate. We will therefore be able to continue to communicate with Jaromir Löffler in the future, to "be in touch".

Airport Media Award with a new concept

With a revamped format, the Airport Media Award is moving into its next phase. Nominations and voting for the award for the best airport advertising are now open online and will take place monthly.

It has been on hold for a year, but now the Airport Media Award is entering its next round. According to the press release, campaigns that have been placed at at least one airport in the past 12 months will be honored. The prize, which is awarded by the Airport Media Initiative for the most creative advertising at airports in Germany, Austria and Switzerland, has been completely revised: Instead of once a year, the Airport Media Initiative will now award the best airport media every month. Once a year, the jury selects the overall winner from all the monthly winners.

The form of application is also new. Participation is exclusively via an online form at Airport-media-award.eu or via the menu item Airport Award 2011 under Airportadvertising.com. Agencies, advertisers and specialist intermediaries can upload their best airport media of the month using the online form. Applications for the month of May start immediately. Participants can submit their creations up to and including June 14. The jury and visitors to the website will then cast their votes and the application deadline for the following month will begin.
