The advertising week on Star TV: Orange beautifies the media landscape

The idea to illuminate the sky above Zurich with delicate light installations was conceived by the Publicis agency. Orange’s new «We Care» brand campaign was brought to life by British director Simon Cracknell of vonTuna Production.

The brand campaign is intended to convey that Orange customers receive more service and attention than anywhere else. This is one of the reasons why no professional actors were cast for this 24-second commercial, but only Orange employees. In and around Zurich, they present their customers with wonderful light drawings as a symbol of the added value they offer every day.

Last but not least: The smartphone that can do absolutely nothing

Smartphones are really great. But they’re not exactly kosher. After all, they constantly tempt the devout. An Israeli phone company has now developed a special smartphone that has the rabbis’ blessing.

Revolutionary features of the "kosher" smartphone are the large selection of religious ringtones and the Yiddish-language menu. A whole four months of translation work went into this. And that with a target group of 300,000 to 400,000 ultra-Orthodox Jews. In addition, various barriers were built in so as not to tempt users: no SMS function, camera, Internet access, Facebook or e-mail. Making calls on the Sabbath is also excessively expensive. Wonderful. The only question that remains is whether this thing can even be called a smartphone with so much limited functionality.

Ruf Lanz/Hinderling Volkart: Virtual Asbestos House for Suva Pro

Ruf Lanz and Hinderling Volkart have developed a virtual asbestos house for Suva Pro to raise awareness of the asbestos issue among various target groups.

Although the use of asbestos has been banned in Switzerland since 1990, the asbestos hazard has still not been eliminated. Before 1990, asbestos was "installed" in Switzerland in large quantities. Many of the old buildings contaminated with asbestos are getting on in years and are in need of renovation, refurbishment or even demolition. Several hundred thousand employees in the construction industry are still at risk of coming into contact with this hazardous material.

Suva Pro has developed a virtual asbestos house for this purpose, which is intended to raise awareness and educate the various target groups (property owners, architects, engineers, contractors, construction workers) about the asbestos issue. At Suva.ch/asbesthaus typical sources of asbestos can be identified, the risks assessed and the correct action taken.

The virtual asbestos house was created in collaboration between Ruf Lanz (concept and layout), Hinderling Volkart (concept, visualization and technical implementation), Unic (technical implementation) and Suva Pro (overall responsibility).

Responsible at Suva Pro: Karin Aebi (communications consulting), Edgar Käslin, (campaign management), Urs Schaad (overall responsibility). Responsible at Ruf Lanz: Danielle Lanz, Markus Ruf (Creative Direction), Marcel Schläfle (Art Direction), Kristina Burch, Michael Gassler (Consulting). Responsible at Hinderling Volkart: Michael Hinderling (CD, Consulting), Michel Fernandez (Design), Severin Klaus (Development). Responsible at Unic: Gabriela Eymann (project manager), Pascal Mathys (technical manager).

ROG: 38 "enemies of freedom of the press

To mark World Press Freedom Day on May 3, Reporters Without Borders (RSF) is releasing its list of the biggest «enemies of press freedom.» The title goes to 38 heads of state and government, kings, paramilitary groups, criminal networks, and organizations.

A long-time "enemy of press freedom," Tunisian ruler Zine el-Abidine Ben Ali, has disappeared from the list. Instead, according to ROG, the situation in other Arab states has stagnated or worsened. Ten of the enemies are to be found in the Middle East/North Africa region, as was the case last year. A new addition this year is the King of Bahrain, Hamad bin Issa al-Chalifa. "The crackdown on demonstrations in Syria, Yemen or Bahrain is accompanied by violence against members of the press and massive censorship," said Michael Rediske, ROG board spokesman.

Nine "enemies" come from European countries and states of the former Soviet Union. In many CIS countries, media freedom has been at a standstill for years, the organization says. The list also includes non-state groups such as private militias in the Philippines, Islamist groups such as the Taliban in Afghanistan and Pakistan, criminal groups such as the Italian mafia, the Spanish terrorist organization Eta and drug cartels in Mexico. A detailed list is available on the website Rsf-ch.ch to find.

In a video, the organization also informs about the actions on the occasion of the International Press Freedom Day.

Volunteering at the center of Catholic Media Sunday

The Catholic Church is using the 45th Media Sunday on June 5 as an opportunity to continue last year’s «More Good News» campaign. This year, the focus is on volunteer work. The campaign was presented to the media on Tuesday in Bern.

"Even if not everything always goes well in the church, we do not want to overlook the many good things that are done - mostly on a voluntary basis," writes the Swiss Bishops' Conference in the media documents. The social value of volunteer work can hardly be overestimated.

According to Daniel Kosch, Secretary General of the Roman Catholic Central Conference, around 870,000 women and men do voluntary work in the Catholic Church. The Bishops' Conference is appealing to the population to share the "good news" they encounter in the church. On the homepage More-good-news.ch the contributions are collected.

The collection on Media Sunday benefits church media. The lion's share of 60 percent goes to the Catholic news agency Kipa. However, the collection also supports efforts to be present in the new media. Last year, the collection raised over 340,000 francs. (SDA)
