View: Early delivery area almost doubled

From May 7, 2011, Blick will significantly expand the area in which deliveries are made by 6.30 a.m. at the latest. Early delivery will now be extended to the entire early morning distribution area of Swiss Post and its partner companies.

In addition, areas in eastern Switzerland and the Central Plateau as well as in central Switzerland and Graubünden will be added. This means that for the first time in its history, Blick will be distributed on a large scale via a separate early delivery service and will reach almost 90,000 subscribers' letterboxes earlier than before.

The Bern region switched to early delivery in a pilot project back in October 2000, followed by a further 45,000 subscribers in the conurbations of German-speaking Switzerland in 2010. But the development is not yet complete. Caroline Thoma, Managing Director of the Blick Group, believes that early delivery should be further expanded and intensified.

Active13: Key trends in corporate communications

The Media Forum Europe Active13, founded last year, initiated a think tank that took a close look at developments in the field of corporate communications. Thirteen representatives from the worlds of science, media and communications met in Munich for this purpose. In cooperation with the market research group TNS Emnid, they formulated thirteen key trends and outlined their significance for the media future of companies.

Communication and marketing in German companies are facing incalculable challenges; with the operation of ever new media channels, decision-makers are facing an incalculable cost explosion. In the midst of a digital tsunami, they currently do not know which media channel to focus on and which direction their investments should take in the future. This is what the Media Forum wrote in a press release on Friday. This scenario was taken as an opportunity to analyze the most important trends at a round table.

The atomization of the media landscape through the explosion of new communication channels, according to one of the analysis results, demands new target group segmentations. The global spread of e-books, iPads & Co. and the imminent market penetration of the mobile Internet also require a radical rethink of content production. Traditionally cost-intensive communication structures must be replaced by a new communication architecture that links all media channels and bundles the central corporate messages more strongly than before. This requires new media logistics that bundle independently operating and scattered media within the company and enable targeted, cost-conscious communication, according to a summary by TNS Emnid CEO Hartmut Scheffler. For media service providers, this offers the opportunity to position themselves in a new function as architects of new media structures.

The Media Forum Europe MFE was founded in 2010 by the Forum Corporate Publishing FCP, the Corporate TV Association CTVA and the Fachverband der Medienproduktioner f:mp as an umbrella organization for corporate communications to provide a cross-media cooperation platform for all members in addition to genre marketing. The initiator and president of MFE is Manfred Hasenbeck.

Ringier Axel Springer Media: Application for antitrust clearance withdrawn

The two shareholders of Ringier Axel Springer Media, Ringier and Axel Springer, have withdrawn their application for antitrust clearance for a merger of the two companies' activities in Hungary. The withdrawal of the application is for procedural reasons.

The newly created Hungarian Media Council had recently issued a negative, for the Cartel Office binding Opinion to the merger. The companies still plan to combine their activities in Hungary. After careful examination of all options for action, they will decide at the appropriate time whether and in what form a new application for a modified merger will be submitted. The two shareholders wrote this in a statement on Friday.

For Ringier Axel Springer Media, which has been active in Poland, Slovakia, the Czech Republic and Serbia since July 2010, the withdrawal of the application for a merger in Hungary does not result in any changes. It will continue unchanged on its growth course toward digitization on the basis of its strong core brands.

Balance ranking of social media appearances

For the first time, Bilanz has presented a ranking of the strongest Swiss brands in social media. Swisscom ranks first, followed by Swiss and TAG Heuer.

According to the Bilanz ranking, Swisscom's professional understanding of the world of Facebook, Twitter and co. made it the winner of the first social media ranking for the top 50 Swiss brands. The brand is very strong in dialog, responds quickly, offers extensive promotional material and has a support community on Facebook. Swisscom really understands social media, say Robert Letsch and Nijan Ouliaei from the Zurich agency M&M Interactive Media, which compiled the ranking for Bilanz.

All of the top 50 Swiss brands have an active social media presence. They use several channels - for good reasons, says Grit Mareike Ahlers, who will be speaking at the Swiss Brand Congress on May 26 on the topic of "How social media strengthens the brand compared to traditional marketing communication". Ahlers, managing partner of the Zurich-based marketing consultancy Bruhn & Partner, sees two main effects of social media: "They strengthen brand image and awareness. Social media such as Facebook, communities and blogs build proximity to the consumer, making them a participant, which also influences their purchasing decisions." If you want to turn customers into fans, there is no way around these tools, which were recently ridiculed, continues Ahlers. If brand owners want customers to develop a kind of love affair with the brand, social media is the right place for this.

For the ranking, Bilanz, in collaboration with the M&M Media Group, examined the 50 most important Swiss brands in the relevant social media channels.

Advertising Day 2011 in Lugano - "Exemplary Advertising with Children" Awarded

SBB and Gasverbund Mittelland will receive the Child Guardian advertising award, which will be presented for the fifth time in 2011, at today's Advertising Day 2011 in Lugano. The award for exemplary advertising with children is presented by Terre des hommes - Kinderhilfe TDH, the Swiss children's charity, together with the associations Schweizer Werbung SW and Publicité Romande.

A TV commercial and a poster/advertising motif were awarded the prize, which show that respect for children and successful advertising with children can be reconciled. Children are taken seriously and not instrumentalized as mere objects, according to a press release from TDH. SBB received the Child Guardian 2011 as a symbolic award for the TV commercial entitled "Sergio, Benoît and Beat in the museum", created by the Contexta agency: the three men stand stiffly and rigidly, a small boy stands on a stool and twists the moustache of one of the men to see if the three are real. The spot was unanimously chosen as the winner by the expert jury.

The award ceremony in the Print category was less straightforward: the adult jury of communication and child protection experts could not decide between three equally worthy subjects in the final selection, including the natural gas motif with cheerful sack-jumping children realized by Gasverbund Mittelland with the agency Startbahnwest. The children's jury, made up of 22 schoolchildren from Saint-Prex in the canton of Vaud, was a different story. With their spontaneity and intuition, the children immediately and clearly recognized who they thought deserved the prize, and so they also decided with conviction in favour of Erdgas, explained Child-Guardian jury president Evelyne Hug.
