SRG adheres to targets for new collective labor agreement

The SRG Board of Directors has decided to stick to the goals it has set for a new collective bargaining agreement (CBA). The SRG wants a good, modern CBA and is open to further negotiations with the union.

Yesterday, Wednesday, the SRG Board of Directors dealt in detail with the outcome of the CLA negotiations. This was announced by SRG on Thursday. It had discussed both the report of the SRG negotiating delegation and the statement of the union Schweizer Syndikat Medienschaffender SSM. Now, the board of directors has decided to stick to the CLA goals it has set: The CLA should contain "the simplest possible rules, uniform provisions and reasonable allowances that are customary in the industry".

SRG is open to further negotiations. Further talks would make sense, including discussions about moderate savings and necessary changes to the CLA, the statement added. The positions would be far apart after five rounds of negotiations, and a consensus within a useful period would seem challenging. Even a CLA-less situation as of January 1, 2013 cannot be ruled out for SRG. Should it actually come to that, SRG as a reliable employer would leave the employment conditions of the current CLA unchanged for all employees in 2013 - also for new employees joining SRG in 2013, the statement concluded. During this time, SRG would resume negotiations for a new CBA.

Franz & René: Sexy web campaign for Hôtellerie Romande

The Yverdon-les-Bains, Broye, and Vallée de Joux division commissioned Franz & René to design a campaign. The agency was tasked with promoting the benefits of staying two nights—rather than just one—at one of the 17 hotels in the region.

The campaign is primarily aimed at sporty tourists (hiking, cycling) who pass through the region, but often booked only one, rather than two nights in a hotel. The agency designs a web campaign in two stages: The concept showcases an everyday tourist couple who have their wildest dreams in the region and by a rather funny way, are pulled back to reality. The spots were cut into two parts. After the first part, a banner appears on which the user can click to find out the second part of the story and access the actions of the hotel association.

Several interested parties for WRS

Yesterday, the SRG Board of Directors decided on the basis of a comprehensive analysis that WRS should be continued outside SRG. Several applicants have already expressed their interest in a takeover.

SRG wants to transfer World Radio Switzerland WRS to a private sponsorship in the course of focusing its offering. This writes the SRG on Thursday on Presseportal.ch. The SRG's general management is taking the necessary steps. A project committee under the leadership of Daniel Jorio, SRG's finance director, is beginning its work. The project manager is SRG consultant François Besençon.

A company specializing in mergers and acquisitions will establish contact in Switzerland and abroad with private or institutional investors who want to continue WRS with its orientation. The aim is to prepare the project in 2012 and implement it in 2013/2014, SRG added. Provided potential buyers confirm their interest and the supervisory authority is prepared to put the FM frequency that becomes available out to tender, the investors could apply for a license for a commercial local radio station in coverage area 2 (Arc lémanique), without entitlement to reception fees. Broadcasting via DAB+ would be ensured. If no buyer is found by the end of October 2012, the Board of Directors will decide on the next steps at its December meeting.

Farner positions Balgrist Center for Paraplegia

Farner was commissioned by Balgrist University Hospital to launch a multi-year campaign in the greater Zurich area. The aim of the campaign is to position the Balgrist Center for Paraplegia as the first address for paraplegia in the Zurich catchment area.

In addition, a new research fund will be publicized. Posters, advertisements and the Website are intended to show that patients at the Balgrist Center for Paraplegia remain integrated into a real living environment in the city of Zurich with all its advantages during their rehabilitation. They also benefit directly from the research results of the in-house research department of the only university center for paraplegia in Switzerland, the agency said in a statement Thursday.

"Closer" is the central campaign message - closer to the varied city life, closer to the research results of today and tomorrow, closer to paraplegics and their everyday needs. The campaign ambassadors are employees of the center. On the Blog researchers and affected persons, caregivers and relatives tell each other personally what concerns and moves them. The exchange platform is intended to stimulate dialogue about the problems surrounding paraplegia.

Press Council reprimands Weltwoche - but case rightly taken up

Weltwoche and other media outlets were right to report on the foreign exchange transactions of Philipp Hildebrand, the former president of the Swiss National Bank. This is the conclusion reached by the Swiss Press Council. However, Weltwoche in particular made mistakes.

The media have fulfilled their role as "watchdogs of democracy" in the Hildebrand case. This was stated by the Swiss Press Council on Thursday at its annual media conference in Bern. This also applies to Weltwoche, whose revelations ultimately led to the resignation of the SNB president on January 9, 2012. For the Press Council, however, it is wrong to place the "blame" for the resignation on Weltwoche and its controversial reporting. Because: Regardless of the scope of the Hildebrand family's foreign exchange transactions, this event was of public interest, according to a statement by the Press Council.

From a professional ethics point of view, it was also positive that the media had questioned the "unusual" communiqué of the Bank Council of the Swiss National Bank of December 23, 2011. In the communiqué, the Bank Council had stated that rumors of unauthorized transactions by Hildebrand were groundless. Additional information was denied.

Complaint partially upheld
On the one hand, the Press Council dealt generally with the role of the media in the Hildebrand affair. On the other hand, the Council had to assess a complaint by Bank Sarasin against Weltwoche. The Press Council partially approved this complaint. In the assessment of the Press Council, Weltwoche violated the duty of truth because it did not name the main source of its information - the Thurgau lawyer Hermann Lei. In addition, it referred to the indirect source incorrectly - Hildebrand's client advisors instead of Bank Sarasin's IT staff. This incorrect information should have been corrected.

Weltwoche has to put up with another rebuke because it did not mark the published bank statements of Hildebrand as a "montage" - especially since the illustration proves the core of the criticism of Philipp Hildebrand. Weltwoche counters that the information content was not changed.

Weltwoche also violated its duty to be heard. The documents submitted to the Press Council show that Weltwoche did not seek a statement from Bank Sarasin, the bank affected by the data theft, until after the first series of articles had appeared. In addition, in order to verify the information from its source, Weltwoche should have confronted Bank Sarasin with the revelations anyway, the Press Council writes. Even if it had to expect that the bank would invoke banking secrecy and refuse to comment.

Regarding the source situation in the Hildebrand case, the Press Council states that Weltwoche was allowed to rely on the information it received about Hildebrand's bank account. The statements of the indirect source Lei were supported by the bank statement. In addition, there was a high level of public interest. According to the Press Council, the two-source rule, according to which unconfirmed information must be corroborated by at least two sources, cannot be applied schematically to every individual case.

Lack of distance
The Press Council also criticized the fact that Weltwoche's scandalizing choice of words ("brash crook," "speculator Hildebrand") was hardly supported by facts. The choice of words also indicated that the necessary distance between Weltwoche and the source of the information was lacking. However, the Press Council also suspects a lack of distance in other media. Because of its one-sided positioning in favor of Hildebrand, the Press Council raises the question of whether the Sunday press had allowed itself to be influenced by PR consultants or by circles close to the National Bank. Despite these shortcomings, however, readers were able to "understand and classify the role of the main exponents of the affair and how that of the media," writes the Press Council. (sda)

Republica: Bernese lured to the radio for Capital FM

The capital city radio station Capital FM wants to attract more listeners. For this reason, Republica has laid out appropriate bait.

A bear trap serves as the stage for the advertising campaign. Republica designed the new print presence for Capital FM under the motto "The exciting Bernese radio". Both the positioning themes, such as music and news, as well as the broadcasting channels and events, such as the Bärner Morgeshow, were to be presented in an unmistakable way.

The creatives at Republica had forbidden themselves to use the Bernese bear, preferably with headphones, to represent the capital city radio station. Instead, they created a new, unmistakable symbol for Capital FM: a trap to emotionally attract and grab Bernese radio listeners in a figurative sense. In order to advertise the Bärner Morgeshow on TV in a selective and media-friendly way, Republica decided not to show the presenter Monika Buser in the print version, just like the bears. Instead, she lends her arms and hands to a sleepy man in his mid-thirties to get ready in the bathroom in the morning. The slogan: "Waking up can be so pleasant when you start the day with Capital FM".

Responsible at Republica: Chris Morgan (overall responsibility), Stephanie Schneuwly (consulting), Mike Krüll (CD and text), Lara Klopper (graphics), Gary Jude (composing), Topfuel (film production). Responsible at Capital FM: Peter Scheurer (Business and Program Manager), Melanie Friedli (Head of Marketing Communications), Lisa Catani (Assistant Marketing Communications), Sascha Haussener (Soundtrack Spot).

Swiss Dialog Marketing Award 2012: Gold in the Wild West

On June 22, 2012, the Kongresshaus Zürich was transformed into a Western-style setting for this year’s SDV Awards ceremony. A total of 29 projects were honored in 12 categories. The jury also presented three special awards.

The harmonica player arrived by train, the well-known melody of "Spiel mir das Lied vom Tod" rang in the ears of the guests and the ambience in the Kongresshaus was cinematic - as if Sergio Leone had written his movie especially for this evening. When the Zurich Youth Orchestra joined in, the stage was set for the 14th awards ceremony. But although the lasso was thrown out in 12 categories, prizes were only awarded in 10. In the "Art Direction" and "Dialogue Strategies" categories, the jury searched in vain for winners of one of the three precious metals and awarded no prizes. "However, this is not a bad thing," said Sheriff and Chairman of the jury, Christian Huldi. On the contrary: this result illustrates how demanding these two categories in particular are and proves that the evaluation committee is well composed in terms of quality.

In addition to the 26 works awarded bronze, silver and gold, there were three special awards. In keeping with the rugged Wild West, the agency at the airport scooped the AZ Direct Audience Award with its "Pigskin Tattoo Poster" for the tattoo convention. Luca Schneider and Sebastian Eppler received the SDV Junior Award and thus set the theme for the upcoming SDV Award with their work "The DM Games are open".

Spillmann/Felser/Leo Burnett were able to leave the festive saloon with the most awards in their pockets without drawing their revolvers: Namely with three gold awards, two silver and one platinum. With a total score of 24 points, Spillmann/Felser/Leo Burnett left the other agencies far behind. Platinum award winner and thus the best work of the year "WOZ - Werbung stört!" (WOZ - advertising disrupts!) impressed with its unique idea. As a newspaper that does not advertise, WOZ is dependent on other sources of income. Spillmann/Felser/Leo Burnett came up with the solution of avoiding advertising by reading between the lines of advertising messages to find out how annoying they can be. Avoiding advertising with advertising sounds like highnoon, but in addition to the platinum prize, it was also worth gold to the jury in the "Addressed mailings" category.

In the agency ranking, Jung von Matt/Limmat followed eleven points behind the first-placed agencies. Three of their works were awarded silver in the categories "Integrated Dialogue Campaigns" and "Digital Dialogue Measures". The "Graubünden Obermutten" campaign was worth a gold award to the jury. Agentur am Flughafen came third in the agency ranking with a total score of 11 points. In addition to the audience award, it won bronze in the categories "Addressed mailings up to 250 copies" and "Production" and silver in the "Ambient" category.

International standard
Compared to the previous year, 25 percent more entries were submitted. Although this meant a lot more work for the SDV in terms of evaluation, it was also a source of great satisfaction. In the end, 19 percent made it onto the shortlist - a total of 40 entries. 11 percent of the entries received a precious metal award. In an international comparison, the result is therefore impressive.

On the road again
The finalists and the winning entries for the 2012 Swiss Dialog Marketing Prize are now going on a journey and can be booked for a traveling exhibition or ordered from the SDV Swiss Dialog Marketing Association for educational purposes, for example.
