SRG and trade union resume CLA negotiations

The SRG and the media union SSM resumed negotiations on a new collective bargaining agreement on Monday (today). Now the SP is applying pressure: It says it will only support the SRG in the future if a collective bargaining agreement is reached.

The negotiations will take place on Monday and Tuesday of this week, and a second round of negotiations is planned for September. SRG spokesperson Daniel Steiner confirmed corresponding information from the Sonntags Zeitung to the sda news agency.

Recently, however, it is not only the trade unions that have been blowing a rough wind against SRG. The SP is also exerting pressure: at the beginning of June, a parliamentary group committee met with the SRG management and made demands. Hans-Jürg Fehr, SP National Councillor for Schaffhausen, confirmed his statements in the Sonntags Zeitung to the news agency SDA: "A public service company needs a CLA, otherwise it won't work." Without a CLA, the SP's support for the SRG is "no longer guaranteed". Fehr justifies the pressure with the fact that SRG is regulated by the state: "Our statements are a permissible expression of opinion."

"Pressure attempts remain ineffective"

SRG takes a different view. Independence from political and economic interest groups is "one of the greatest assets" of the SRG media house, the company stated on request. "However, attempts to exert pressure, as experienced by every media company, are extremely rare and remain ineffective." As far as the negotiations are concerned, SRG attaches great importance to a social partnership and remains highly interested in concluding a CLA - "but of course not at any price". Media spokesperson Daniel Steiner did not comment on the content of the negotiations.

Negotiations between the SRG and SSM broke down in mid-May. The fifth and final agreed meeting ended without agreement. At the time, the union criticized the employer's demands as a "catalog of cuts". According to the SRG, the positions were "far apart". If no agreement is reached, there is a threat of a contractless situation from January 2013. (SDA)

IAB: Digital advertising replaces online advertising

IAB Switzerland welcomes the findings of a survey conducted by the German Association of the Digital Economy (BVDW) that in future, instead of "online advertising", we will only be talking about "digital advertising".

In the run-up to the largest digital trade fair in Germany, Dmexco, the German Association for the Digital Economy (BVDW) asked media experts about the latest trends in online advertising, according to a press release. One of the most important findings is that in the future there will only be talk of digital advertising. Due to the progressive digitalization of the media and the media usage behavior of the end consumers, it would be wrong to speak only of online advertising. Especially since online advertising campaigns and advertising media can no longer be delivered only online, but also via mobile, tablet or smart TV.

"I am glad that the BVDW has come to this conclusion in its current survey of media experts. For a long time, we have been of the opinion that the term 'online advertising' no longer does justice to the current possibilities. The merging of the genres of online, mobile/tablet and smart TV means that a rethink must take place at all levels. This applies to creation, planning and reporting, but also to the emergence of new concepts. We will actively disseminate and implement this insight in the Swiss market," says Ueli Weber, President of IAB Switzerland.

Last but not least: Is "Baz-Sugardaddy" investing in a bottomless pit?

Christoph Blocher has already spent quite a bit on the purchase of the *Basler Zeitung*. Now he’s throwing in some more cash: He has fully funded the *Basler Zeitung*’s pension fund with over 15 million francs and transferred it to Profond.

This is what the author Werner C. Hug writes in an article in the trade magazine Schweizer Personalvorsorge, as can be read in the NZZ am Sonntag. Blocher had confirmed the high deposit. He is thus creating the prerequisite for the Basler Zeitung Medien pension fund to be handed over to a collective foundation.

But despite rather costly attempts so far to get the Basler Zeitung back on track, it doesn't seem to be quite working out - at least financially. The circulation of the Basler Zeitung is falling fast, as the NZZ am Sonntag reports according to sources at the publishing house. The paper still sells around 70,000 copies, including discounted subscriptions.

Now, savings are to be made among the photographers. Markus Somm has demanded from picture editor Bernhard Vesco that he terminate at least four of six photographers, writes Tageswoche.ch. The writing reporters could take photos themselves for some stories, as Somm explained to Onlinereports.ch. In the local section, several journalists have now already taken up the camera.

Of course, journalists today are multitaskers. They have to write, research, interview and photograph. And if they don't have anything to do, they might as well drive smokers out of their fumoirs, renovate Blocher's castle, and do my taxes.

APG Mountain extends contracts with key partners

APG Mountain has renegotiated various contracts with mountain regions and cable car operators. In addition to the Torrentbahnen Leukerbad, Bettmeralp Bahnen has also extended its exclusive contract by five years, through 2017.

Preparations for the winter season are already underway in the mountain regions. APG|SGA Mountain is also well prepared for the next season. It has already extended contracts with mountain railroads in major ski resorts in the Swiss Alps, including Zermatt, Leukerbad, Bettmeralp, the Jungfrau Railway and the Corvatsch Railway.

Zermatt Bergbahnen has confirmed its partnership with APG Mountain for a further three years, and Jungfrau Railways Management has extended the three-year contract until 2015 at an early stage due to the good cooperation. APG writes this in a press release. In Graubünden, Corvatsch and the Corviglia-Piz Nair aerial cableway are among the long-standing partners. They have also confirmed their exclusive 2-year contracts until 2014.

SRG under pressure?

Negotiations between SRG and SSM on a collective bargaining agreement will enter their final round on Monday. Now, SRG is also facing pressure from politicians.

SRG Director General Roger de Weck is being put under massive pressure not only by the professional associations, but also by the SP. This is according to the Sonntagszeitung. As early as June, an SP parliamentary group committee is said to have met with SRG management and openly threatened to withdraw its support for the media company.

This is confirmed by Hans-Jürg Fehr, SP National Councillor for Schaffhausen, according to the Sonntagszeitung: "We have made it clear to the general management that only an SRG with Gav is an option for us." Even if the SP generally has a benevolent attitude towards the media company, its support is not "free" and is no longer guaranteed without Gav.

However, SRG spokesperson Daniel Steiner says, according to the Sonntagszeitung, that SRG rejects any interference from the SP. "Independence from political and economic interest groups is one of the SRG media house's greatest assets," he says. Attempts to exert pressure would be ineffective. Only last week, De Weck addressed all employees in an internal communication and emphasized that SRG continues to attach great importance to social partnership.

"Glanzenburger" toasts Facebook fans

On December 1, the student fraternity "Glanzenburger" from Zurich will personally toast everyone who has "liked" their Facebook page by then. A video will then be published.

There are currently just under 150 people or other clubs registered, but even if the ball doesn't start rolling, the boys will have plenty to toast. That's why they are teaming up with the Locher brewery from Appenzell, which has agreed to donate the beer for this tapping event.

Imprisonment for bribe payment to reporter after corruption article

In Vietnam, a reporter has been sent to prison for paying bribes as part of his award-winning investigative reporting on corruption. A court in Ho Chi Minh City sentenced Hoang Khuong to four years in prison on Friday.

His defense lawyer Phan Trung Hoai had pleaded in vain for acquittal. Khuong works for the largest newspaper, Tuoi Tre. He told the court that he had posed as a traffic offender last year and sent a police officer 15 million dong (around 680 francs) to get a confiscated moped back.

According to his lawyer, he had wanted to help the police fight corruption with his article. Khuong acted on behalf of the newspaper and did not benefit personally, the newspaper's editor-in-chief said before the trial. (sda)

TBWA\ Zurich: Surprising tones before the IRF

For the 3rd time, the International Radio Festival IRF will take place from September 12 to 16, this time at Sihlberg Castle. Also this year TBWA\ Zurich developed the campaign for the festival.

This consists of TV commercials, posters and advertisements. The films were created in collaboration with Pumpkin Film. In the spots, the protagonists discover surprising and new sounds, in line with the motto: "Discover New Sounds". The spots are broadcast on Joiz and on national stations.

The posters and advertisements should also stimulate the viewer aurally through their design. When looking at the posters, the viewer has the feeling that he or she is being soundtracked by the motif. The name dropping of the 20 or so participating radio stations was appropriately integrated into the overall image.

Award CC: The Swiss communications industry has five new winners

On September 6, for the eighth time, the jury of the Corporate Communications Award recognized the most innovative concepts in integrated communications. At this year’s awards ceremony, in addition to the «Communicators» award, the category award for Social Media was also presented.

Once again this year, numerous concepts were submitted to the Corporate Communications Award committee. Five made it into the nomination. After intensive studies and active discussion rounds, the expert jury selected the best communication achievements, according to an Award Corporate Communications press release on Friday.

This year's winners are:

The PR and advertising agency "Science Communications" Zurich with "Seeking the World's Best Postdocs" and the "Wirz Group" with the concept "Opening IKEA Rothenburg". They each received one of the "Communicators" trophies by Ticino sculptor Pedro Pedrazzini at the evening awards ceremony in the Metropol Zurich.

The other three nominees, the advertising agency "Agence Trio SA" Lausanne with the concept "SIG Services Industriels Genève", and the agency "Euro RSCG" Zurich with "One YoungWorld" and "Love Life", were also honored with a certificate.

Integrated communication work in the field of science

The core theme of the "Seeking the Word Best Postdocs" campaign by "Science Communications" was to increase the number of applicants, research areas and countries of origin for the promotion of recently graduated scientists by awarding so-called "The Branco Weiss Fellowships". "The concept was convincing because integrated communication work in the field of science was implemented in an exemplary manner with a difficult topic," the press release continues. The campaign used various communication channels, all of which demonstrated a high degree of integration," said jury member Bettina Bickel-Jaques - PR consultant BR/SPRV, mediator SDM-FSM - explaining the presentation of the award.

Opening campaign in collaboration with the target group

The Ikea claim "Space for new ideas" was literally integrated into the "Opening Ikea Rothenburg" campaign. 300 people applied to make their own four walls available to the furniture store. From the furnishing to the subsequent public visit, first virtually and later in person. There were 320,000 virtual encounters.

"You probably couldn't be closer to the target group. All targets were exceeded, with over 45,000 visitors to the new store in the first 5 days alone. That is world class and deserves gold," congratulates jury member Urs Schneider - from
Mediaschneider in Zurich - the "Wirz Group" for winning the award.

Continuation of the Social Media Award category prize

Following its premiere last year, the Social Media Award category prize was presented for the second time at this year's Award-CC ceremony (Werbewoche.ch reported). A total of 42 campaigns were submitted, 26 of which met the requirements of the expert jury. After intensive public voting via Facebook, in which 7,200 people took part, the social media campaign "the french job by Maurice Lacroix" was chosen as the winner. After a tough neck-and-neck race, the J.S. Bach Foundation took second place, followed by the Hotel Seedamm Plaza.

The TV commercials and advertisements are complemented by a mailing inviting potential new customers to follow their intuition and take a test drive to see the benefits of the new model for themselves. The catalog of measures is rounded off with an online campaign, which also includes a Facebook competition.
