Barbara Frey extends her contract at the Schauspielhaus Zürich

The Board of Directors of the Schauspielhaus Zürich and Barbara Frey have extended Frey’s contract as artistic director through 2016. In doing so, the parties have exercised the option, stipulated in the 2009 contract, to extend the contract for two additional seasons.

Basel-based director Barbara Frey was appointed Artistic Director of the Schauspielhaus Zürich at the beginning of the 2009/10 season. Since the 2011/12 season, she has been responsible for the overall management of the theater as Artistic Director.

The Board of Directors is delighted that Barbara Frey has succeeded in retaining her position as artistic director and stage manager in Zurich for the long term, according to a statement from the Schauspielhaus. Frey and her management team have succeeded in winning over the Schauspielhaus audience with their artistic program within a very short space of time. Last but not least: A commercial goes to court, and with it its boss

Former NPD leader Udo Voigt has posted a xenophobic commercial online. In it, foreigners are accused of having a «collective predisposition toward criminality.».

Voigt had to answer to the court today, Thursday, for incitement of the people. According to the indictment, the article was freely available on the homepage of the National Democratic Party of Germany (NDP) during the election campaign for the Berlin House of Representatives from August 15 to September 1, 2011, as the SDA writes. The article also calls for a ban on immigration. Proceedings to ban the far-right party were already underway in March 2003, but failed before the Constitutional Court due to procedural errors.

However, it is difficult to understand how this site can generate any users at all without attracting attention with low-level provocations if you look at the party's propaganda page for longer than 2 seconds - even without the aforementioned advertising spot, this is a disaster. The site is not only politically, but also in terms of design, cheaper than a Vienna sausage. The viewer is quickly gripped by the suspicion that this is a guide for children under the age of 5.

But it is not only the user guidance "Recognize, inform, act" that is strongly reminiscent of what a kindergarten child learns on the first day: "Luege, lose, run". The creators of this site are probably also assuming an audience with an IQ of no more than 16. For example, "Handeln" in the NDP actually stands for "Damit es besser wird". A cheap site with cheap statements, apolitically speaking.

2012 AZ Medien Culture Prize awarded to Pedro Lenz

On Wednesday evening, author Pedro Lenz was awarded the AZ Medien 2012 Culture Prize. The award, which comes with a prize of 25,000 francs, was presented for the 14th time this year.

Peter Wanner, Chairman of the Board of Directors and publisher of AZ Medien, presented the award at a ceremony in the Schützi cultural center in Olten in the presence of personalities from the worlds of culture, business and politics. Words of greeting were delivered by Solothurn's Landammann Peter Gomm. The award honors Pedro Lenz as a word artist who brings dialect to new life in his books and in his stage performances, according to a statement issued by AZ Medien on Thursday. Lenz rhythmizes and condenses our household dialect, said jury president Sabine Altorfer, until a piece of literature emerges from it.

Publisher Peter Wanner praised not only the connoisseur of human nature, sensitive observer and linguistic artist, but also the soccer columnist: "Pedro Lenz, I feel with all my pores, is an incredible soccer fan. His passion is at least as much for football as for language. And he combines the two beautifully." In his laudatory speech, Balts Nill, multi-instrumentalist and Germanist, described Pedro Lenz as a "traveler in poetry." "If I had to put Pedro Lenz's art into a formula, I would say: astonishment distance times craft. He has not stopped wondering about what comes to his ears."
