Basel West: 100 years of Dale Carnegie

One hundred years ago, Dale Carnegie Training laid the foundation for modern management theory. To mark the anniversary, Basel West has produced several communication materials.

The anniversary campaign will be used via streetcar dispensers, advertisements and flyers for a distribution campaign in train stations. The courses are considered the world's most successful personality and leadership training, the agency said in a statement Thursday. In Switzerland, the courses are offered in eight regions and advertised in local and national media.

Unique wins vocational training campaign

Unikat won the pitch organized by the Federal Office for Vocational Education and Training (BBT). In a two-stage selection process that included competitive presentations, the Küsnacht-based agency impressed the jury with its solution.

To promote vocational education and training - and thus also vocational apprenticeships - the federal government has been running the campaign in cooperation with the cantons and professional organizations since 2007. The aim is to raise awareness among young people, parents and companies about the opportunities offered by vocational education and training. The planned measures for the period 2012 to 2014 will also focus on talent acquisition, in line with the objectives of the 2011 National Apprenticeship Conference. The first results of the new campaign orientation will be seen this year, according to a statement from the agency.

Prime wins Swiss Recycling as a customer

Swiss Recycling has commissioned Prime to carry out a national advertising campaign. The Zurich-based full-service agency prevailed over several competitors in the pitch. The campaign will launch in October.

As an umbrella organization, Swiss Recycling promotes the interests of all recycling organizations active in separate collection in Switzerland. For the first national umbrella campaign, Swiss Recycling is relying on the Prime agency, according to a press release. Managing Director Patrik Geisselhardt: "Prime not only convinced us creatively, but also involved all members in the campaign with its pragmatic modular structure."

Last but not least: Battle of the third dimension

3D here, 3D there, 3D everywhere. But that's all over now: A new type of 2D glasses is doing away with the third dimension.

There are many reasons to be critical of the current 3D hysteria. Some complain about headaches, others are annoyed that the market is not only flooded with new 3D films, but also that every romantic comedy, no matter how bad, is retrospectively being beaten into the third dimension. What's more, many new releases are no longer shown in two dimensions. So it was only a matter of time before a suitable gadget appeared that would allow 2D lovers to get their money's worth again.

Special glasses allow moviegoers to enjoy 3D films in 2D again. According to a press release from Gadstone.ch their inventor developed the glasses because he didn't want to leave his 3D-critical wife home alone all the time when he went to the movies. The lenses of 3D glasses each block one of the two different projected images. So you see two different images at the same time and the brain creates the 3D effect. The new 2D glasses now block one of the two images with both lenses, which means that both eyes see the same thing again - just like in a classic movie.

The glasses cost 19 francs and with a little negotiating skill you can certainly get a reduction or two at the box office - after all, you're giving up the effect that justifies the extra 3D price. Exciting discussions are inevitable, and the people in the queue behind you are sure to fully understand your concerns. (hae)

New and proven for the opening of bookings

With the opening of the booking period and the release of the pocket planner for the 2013 poster year, APG|SGA is introducing new offerings and services while also maintaining its tried-and-true practices. Among the new features is a smartphone app.

According to a press release, the "Poster Plus" app makes it possible to retrieve information from more than 60,000 poster sites at any time and from anywhere. The app can also be used to plan and book posters while on the move.

On October 8, 2012, APG|SGA will open the booking window for the first half of 2013. Those who book within eight weeks will receive an "early booking discount" of 10 percent on the gross price for most network offers. In addition to the app, APG|SGA is also presenting various innovations on the offer page:

At the beginning of 2013, an additional 25 Rollingstars will be integrated into the existing offering at premium locations in Bern. In Zurich, the "Premium Branding waiting zone Zurich" is an expansion of the premium offering with 50 F200L panels at highly frequented streetcar shelters and attractive squares. Long-term poster displays can now be booked for variable periods (12 weeks to 48 weeks). The prices correspond to the annual prices in proportion to the duration of the posting. Areas in tourist locations are excluded from this offer.

As part of a new F4 concept, the F4 networks were optimized and new city series were created. In addition, a new network product, F4 Double-Tall, is being launched in the cities of Lausanne and Basel. This consists of two F4 panels, one above the other, thus enabling new creative forms of implementation. The "APG|SGA Profitline" remains unchanged and is being further expanded with the "APG|SGA Carline" product - geared to the mobility target group of car drivers.

Prices and conditions

The "early booking discount" (for bookings made by November 30, 2012) of 10 percent and the campaign stagger discount - as well as the rest of the condition system - remain unchanged. The annual prices also remain the same. Prices for Premium Citystar 200L Big5 networks will be raised by 10 percent. Otherwise - with the exception of individual F4 offers and the Traffic, Airport, Mountain, and Mega Poster segment brands - there will be a general price increase of 0.8 percent for APG|SGA's poster offers.

Gilliéron finds Hitzfeld "tricky" at Ringier

In an interview with the NZZ, Peter Gilliéron, president of the Swiss Football Association (SFV), comments for the first time on Ottmar Hitzfeld's role at Ringier.

As recently announced, the publishing house Ringier was able to win national soccer coach Ottmar Hitzfeld as a columnist and representative (Werbewoche.ch reported). The commitment was sharply criticized from various sides, as journalistic impartiality and objectivity seem to be in danger. Now, in a NZZ interview Peter Gilliéron has also spoken out critically for the first time. Although he believes that the story is an important topic, especially for the media, he finds the matter "sensitive. However, Gilliéron firmly rejects the accusation that Hitzfeld, with Ringier behind him, can now do whatever he wants, saying that the national coach would never take advantage of the situation and that the SFV is not "eating" Hitzfeld out of his hand anyway.

Doodle launches new online service Book Me

Starting today, Doodle is offering local service providers an online tool that allows them to find and schedule appointments with customers. The booking service is designed to put an end to annoying phone calls at inconvenient times.

With Book Me local service providers are given their own website with a booking function where customers can book an appointment in just a few steps (example: www.doodle.com/haircut). Thanks to the calendar link, only appointments that are actually available are displayed. Additional help is provided by functions such as reminder e-mails to customers. According to the press release, Book Me is particularly suitable for small and medium-sized service providers without their own reception staff: There, the new web service takes over the reception, the web presence and various marketing functions. Subscription prices for the professional service start at CHF 55 (EUR 45) per month per connected employee and include future updates.

Ringier sells Népszabadság

According to the *Tages-Anzeiger*, the Swiss media group Ringier is divesting itself of Hungary's last independent daily newspaper.

As the Tages-Anzeiger reported on Wednesday, the sale appears to be a done deal. Ringer thus fulfills the condition of the Hungarian media authority. This authority will only approve a Ringier partnership with the German Axel Springer Group if the Swiss media house divests itself of the daily newspaper in question. Hungary is the last country in Eastern Europe where the two groups have not yet merged.

Népszabadság is the last independent daily newspaper in Hungary. Unlike the other titles, it is not close to the politics of the ruling Fidesz party, but is considered the mouthpiece of the socialist opposition. As the Tages-Anzeiger writes, there are fears among the journalists concerned that the newspaper is now threatened with political capture. This fear does not appear to be unfounded, as Ringier already parted company with the left-wing daily Magyar Hirlap years ago, which was subsequently transformed by a nationalist entrepreneur into a right-wing medium with anti-Semitic overtones.

As the Tages-Anzeiger writes, Ringier is demanding CHF 6.3 million for the shares plus a guarantee that the newspaper will remain a customer of the Ringier printing plant for the next five years, according to Hungarian media.
