What if Christoph Blocher were reborn as Mustafa Blocher?

Amnesty International and other organizations are launching a nationwide campaign in Switzerland for a fairer and more humane asylum policy. The aim is to make politicians and the general public aware that any further tightening of asylum laws violates human dignity.

The centerpiece of Spina's Civil Voices campaign is a viral that aims to show what our everyday lives would be like if we had been born as Somalis, Eritreans or Congolese rather than Swiss. In a production, we watch the dark-skinned refugee Blocher killing time together with the Syrian asylum seeker Maurer. The viral is flanked by various posters that are currently being displayed.

Atupri realizes online health insurance guide

The films were conceived and produced by Encore Pictures. The accompanying microsite was designed by Hinderling/Volkart.

One of the main objectives of Atupri's marketing strategy is to make the low-involvement health insurance product more attractive. At the same time, Atupri wants to secure a leading position in communication: With clear information and a strong service.

The micro-movies are a central communication component. They were designed as a holistic system and deliberately form a strong contrast to the serious, factual Atupri website - they are intended to enable a sympathetic approach to the subject matter and thus create customer proximity and overcome the fear of an unpopular topic. However, complex information is presented in a clear and emotional way and summarized concisely. In addition, after each short film, the "user" has the choice of finding out more details or watching the next film.

Google is worth more on the stock market than Microsoft

The Internet company Google has surpassed the software company Microsoft in market capitalization, thereby becoming the second-largest technology company in the world.

On Monday morning, Google's market capitalization on the New York Stock Exchange exceeded
At 248.8 billion dollars, Apple's market capitalization on the Nasdaq technology exchange surpassed that of Microsoft, which stood at a good 247.5 billion dollars at the same time. However, with a market capitalization of more than 632.5 billion dollars, Apple still trumps its two competitors by far.

Google rakes in billions with online advertising, particularly in connection with its internet search engine. In addition, the company is highly successful in the booming smartphone market with its Android operating system. Windows and Office manufacturer Microsoft, on the other hand, has to cope with weakening PC sales. The new Windows 8 will be launched on October 26. Microsoft is hoping that this will give it a new boost. (sda)

TBWA Celebrates Great Moments for Mac Donalds

«Stars of America» is the name of the new, large burgers currently available at McDonald's Switzerland. TBWA/Zurich has created TV commercials for Stars of America that take the theme of the U.S. and translate it into restaurant moments that every guest can experience.

This was done in a relaxed, good-humored tone in order to remain close to an authentic restaurant experience, as the agency writes. This is one of the reasons why the films were shot on location in Switzerland. "Big Burgers with great Taste for a small Country": On view until mid-October.

The eyecatcher provides the EWZ with touchscreen solutions

The Eyecatcher has designed two apps for EWZ. The agency designed an energy app for EWZ and recently updated an app for ewz.zürinet.

With the ewz.zürinet app, consumers can learn about the benefits of the fiber-optic network, available service providers, the current status, and much more. The Zurich-based agency further developed its existing app—from the GUI to the back end—and added various new elements, such as infographics. It also ported the app to the iPad.

However, EWZ doesn’t rely solely on ewz.zürinet and the company Eyecatcher. The agency has also designed a comprehensive touchscreen solution centered on the topic of energy. The guided application is used as a consulting tool at trade shows such as Züspa. Using visually appealing 3D building models, private and business customers are given a vivid demonstration of their energy-saving potential.

Baz circulation in free fall

The Basler Zeitung has lost 12 percent of its circulation in one year, but remains the top subscription newspaper in northwestern Switzerland. However, the new Tageswoche has risen to become the new number two.

The certified circulation figures of the AG für Werbemedienforschung Wemf bring it to light: The circulation of the "Basler Zeitung" has fallen again by more than 9,000 copies within a year, from 77,619 to a new 68,279 copies (-12 percent). This is dramatic, because never before in the last ten years has the once proud newspaper, which in 2002 still had 103,649 copies, lost so much at once. What is important here is that, unlike the readership figures for Mach Basic 2012-2, the Wemf circulation figures are not mixed with the new BaZ Sunday edition (Werbewoche.ch reported). This was stated by Roger Berger, spokesman for Basler Zeitung Medien, when asked. The development at BaZ is thus reflected unvarnished in the circulation figures. With one caveat: Berger's statement could not yet be confirmed by Wemf yesterday.

Almost 20000 copies lost in three years

Speaking of circulation development: This looks even bleaker if you look back over the last three years: In this period alone, BaZ circulation has fallen by around 20,000 copies. In other words, since the Hagemann family sold the newspaper to Tito Tettamanti, Martin Wagner and Christoph Blocher, the paper has lost a good fifth of its circulation.

Based on the Wemf figures, it is clear that the Bat has lost subscribers: Just under 8,000 paying subscribers dropped out last year alone, bringing the total number of subscription cancellations since Blocher & Co. took office to 18,000. There were further declines in free subscriptions and newsstand sales: Wagner cut back on free subscriptions (primarily for former employees) at the time. Today, this number is still at 1,000 copies, two-thirds less than in 2009, before the Baz sale. Demand at the newsstand also declined: Today, BaZ sells 2,400 copies there, compared to 1316 copies more in 2009. The only thing that has increased is the number of trial subscriptions: from 549 then to 1,895 today.

And the winner is: TagesWoche!

Of course, the question arises as to where all these renegade Baz readers migrated to. This can be said quite clearly: to the new TagesWoche. The weekly paper with a daily online edition, which was launched last fall thanks to start-up financing from Roche heiress Beatrice Oeri, has 18,605 paying subscribers, about the same number as BaZ has lost since the turmoil surrounding Blocher & Co. In other words, the 18,000 or so people who signed up on the "Save Basel" platform two years ago have put their money where their mouth is: they have not only turned their backs on BaZ, but also subscribed to the new paper. It is also worth noting that TagesWoche sold an additional 3,020 copies at newsstands. Together with a small promo share of 955 copies, this gives it a paid circulation of 22,580 copies.

BZ: High investments, mixed success

Peter Wanner's AZ Medien, on the other hand, has been less successful: Although the Basellandschaftliche Zeitung (BZ) and the bz Basel split launched just under a year ago now have a combined paid circulation of 22463 copies, 13.3 percent more than a year ago. But Wanner is unlikely to be very pleased with this figure: firstly, because it is 120 copies lower than that of the newcomer TagesWoche, and secondly, because the increase is primarily due to the 2,714 promotional copies with which the bz Basel was and is being pushed in the city of Basel. In terms of paid subscriptions, on the other hand, the BZ was only able to increase by 3.5 percent or 600 copies to 17,831 subscriptions. A slight increase in demand is also visible at the newsstands: Last year, the BZ sold 30 copies more per day there than in the previous year (a total of 343 newsstand copies). Nevertheless, after years of slight losses, a trend reversal is now becoming visible in the bz subscriptions and at the newsstand thanks to some investments in the editorial department. It remains to be seen how long it will last.

BZ Sonntag was even weaker: although its circulation also increased slightly (+6.5 percent) to 21,002 copies, this was primarily due to the fact that its trial subscriptions almost doubled to 3073 copies. Paid subscriptions, on the other hand, have actually declined by a good 200 subscribers to 16,486. Only at the newsstand is it slightly more in demand; today it sold 433 copies, compared to 410 a year ago.

Reuters found guilty of "propaganda" in Tehran

A jury in Tehran found the Reuters news agency guilty of "propaganda against the state" on Sunday. The verdict was based on a video report about Iranian female martial artists.

As the Iranian news agency Irna reported, citing the public prosecutor's office, Reuters was also found guilty of publishing "false information" in order to influence public opinion. The decision still has to be confirmed by a professional judge, who is expected to impose a sentence in the coming weeks, as reported by Press TV. The dispute concerns a report about Iranian women who practise the martial art of Ninjutsu in Karaj near Tehran.

Reuters originally reported on the martial artists in February with the title "Thousands of ninja women train to become killers in Iran". After protests, Reuters changed the title and apologized. However, the authorities in Tehran withdrew the accreditation of the Reuters journalists; the activities of the news agency were suspended and the judiciary was called in. (sda)

Last but not least: Do not despair, ask SDA

When the Tagesanzeiger wants to know what is happening at Tamedia, it asks the SDA. At least that's how it seems when you read Friday's Tagi.

In it, the Tagesanzeiger announces the merger at 20 Minuten (Werbewoche.ch reported). However, the newspaper does not refer to a Tamedia press release or even publish a specially written article, but simply adopts an SDA report.

image001_0

That does seem a bit bizarre. What do you think Tagi is trying to say? "Tamedia doesn't just have to save money at 20 Minuten..."? Or: "Why should we ask Tamedia, the SDA has already done this a long time ago".

We don't know what Tamedia spokesman Christoph Zimmer would say about this, but we'll ask SDA tomorrow.
