Sony music publisher slows down Apple's Internet radio

Apple's Internet music radio service has been delayed due to difficult rights negotiations with the music publisher Sony/ATV. Its CEO, Martin Bandier, told The New York Times over the weekend that he wants to secure better compensation for artists.

"We want the service. We just want to be paid fairly." The influential music executive's remarks are also the first confirmation that Apple is even working on such a streaming service. Sony/ATV manages the rights for today's stars like Lady Gaga and Taylor Swift, as well as songs by old-timers like the Beatles and Beach Boys. The company is owned by Japanese electronics giant Sony and the heirs of Michael Jackson. In the summer, it swallowed the publishing division of the shattered British music company EMI.

The Wall Street Journal first reported on Apple's plans for an Internet radio station a few weeks ago, but at the same time qualified that it could still be months before a launch because of rights negotiations. Apple is the world's largest music seller with its online platform iTunes. However, streaming, where music is no longer downloaded but played directly from the Internet, is now gaining ground.

On the one hand, there are subscription services such as Spotify or Rdio, where unlimited music can be listened to for a monthly fee. Apple had also considered such a service, but rejected the idea, the Wall Street Journal wrote.

Another model is free Internet radios such as Pandora, where the
users have to follow a playlist instead of selecting the songs themselves. The Apple service will display advertisements along with the music, just as Pandora does. It will run on Apple devices such as iPhones and iPads, and possibly also on Windows PCs. According to the New York Post, Apple is aiming for a more flexible license with more usage options than Pandora.

Already the first report in the Wall Street Journal had caused Pandora's share price to plummet. (sda)

Ogilvy & Mather: Wooden mailing for Ford

Just in time to boost late-summer sales at Ford dealerships, Ogilvy & Mather created an original and nature-inspired direct-mail campaign. An image of the Ford Ranger and the main message are engraved on a 21 x 15 cm wooden plaque, which also features a personalized dealer imprint.

The mailing is intended to make the point that the Ranger is cut from a different cloth than its competitors - namely, it is the first pick-up to be awarded 5 stars in the Euro NCAP test and shine with Euro 5 emissions standard. This writes the agency in a message. With the wood Mailing businessmen, who earn their money at the fresh air, were addressed. Because where the asphalt ends, the precinct of the Ranger begins.

As a kick-off for the mobility days "Zürich Multimobil 2012" and for the launch of the Facebook presence of "Stadtverkehr 2025", Serranetga conceived the campaign "Velostreife". In this way, a total of 40 "bicycle strips" were created. You can see countless locations and all kinds of cyclists - from downhillers on the Uetliberg to urban racing cyclists and leisurely cruisers. Metadesign designs brand identity for Europaallee

The Europaallee is taking shape near Zurich Central Station, with eight construction projects scheduled through 2020. Metadesign developed all strategic steps for the new Europaallee brand, designed the entire brand identity, and created the opening campaign for the Europaallee Passage.

The central strategic challenge for the emerging brand was to reach all stakeholder groups: SBB Immobilien, tenants, property management companies, consumers, the PHZH University of Teacher Education, a retirement center, workspaces and a hotel. The newly created Europaallee brand offered a suitable brand umbrella for communicating a wide variety of messages, the agency wrote in a statement on Friday. The term "Passage" also names the character of the new, extensive shopping area with Adventure, Outdoor, Sport and Travel as the first of eight parts of Europaallee.

For the visual concept, Metadesign referred to the diversity of urban life that meets in Europaallee. The logo's graphic form is a double row of trees leading to a horizon. The two letters "l" are the supporting graphic elements. Today and in the future, they are to define the framework for all facets of city life in Europaallee. Beyond the logo, the agency developed a visual language, a color scheme, design principles and rules for dealing with typography.

For the opening of the Europaallee Passage, the agency developed a broad-based campaign. Invitations, vouchers, posters and advertisements communicated the motto: "Europaallee is Zurich's hotspot for getting properly equipped for outdoor activities, travel, adventure and sports".

Swissprinters Lausanne's facility in Renens is set to be reorganized by the end of 2012. Now the staff is responding.

Michael Ringier received a letter from the staff of Swissprinters IRL Renens on September 14. He answered it by claiming that the "social concept" granted was to be regarded as "generous". Shocked that "generosity" is being held against dismissals as a result of company closure, Swissprinters staff are insisting on their demand for an improvement in the "social concept", Syndicom wrote in a statement on Friday. To make its position clear, the staff is publishing a new open letter to Michael Ringier today. The letter was distributed to his former colleagues of the same group, Ringier Romandie, at around 1:45 p.m. on September 28.
